Rather boring version of pacman, uninteresting characters and simple level designs. Needs more refinement before it'd be worth paying for.

Your welcome and thank you for your compliment!

Thank you, #22 kalmanizer, for taking the time to translate #6 Cinzia's question (with the help of Babel Fish - a great tool to have available in such cases). It was most kind of you to go to the trouble and to offer her an answer in her own language.

The problem is - I doubt she could read through the comments in English to find your post. I know this site offers its forums in other languages, but looking through the first page and the download page, I don't see any mention of their availability or how to get to them. Maybe a link should be posted on the first page to explain where help can be found in different languages and/or encouraging them to scan down through the comments to look for an answer to their post. Another possibility - refer them to Babel Fish to translate their question before posting. Very new people may not be aware that such help exists.

"To all those complaining:
Stop complaining already. If you don’t like the games offered here, wait until the next day’s offer or go somewhere else."

How many days have "all those complaining" had to wait for something besides, as vilulf put it, "lame brick busters, match three’s, and 25 year old game concepts"? Well over a month and a half.

"So what if these games are not the type you like, they are given away for FREE. You didn’t pay for anything. You don’t really expect to get any major, name-brand, hard-core games here do you?"

No, but we'd like to see some shooters for a change. "Complainers" don't care that they're not paying for what they get - they don't like that there hasn't been anything but "games [that] are not the type [that they] like".

"What was meant by “true gamers” anyway? Someone who truly plays games? Well that would describe anyone who ever played a game, now wouldn’t it?"

That phrase refers to "true gamers" as opposed to "casual gamers". A "true gamer" judges games based on gameplay and innovation, and dislikes clones. A "casual gamer" only cares about a game's feel and atmosphere, and doesn't think twice about paying money for two clones of the same game. The two groups have completely different value systems, and the majority of independant games are intended for the latter(because the company can "skin" a game and sell both versions as seperate games).

"I’ve seen a lot of games here that have been offered at other multi-game sites with a demo to download or option to purchase, but here you get them free. So what’s the point in complaining?"

The point is to get the site to offer a more diverse selection. How would you like it if a restaurant only seved corn?

"These nice people spend the money on this site to be able to give you something for free and all you can do is put them down and step all over their generosity."

Nobody has attacked the site for hosting free games. The games themselves are the objects of complaint.

"Some of us actually appreciate this site and everything that’s given away, even if it’s something we don’t want. I, like others, do not comment on every game. When I do comment, it’s not to complain about what is being offered. So maybe this site isn’t for you, but some of us like it here.

That’s all I have to say about that."

You don't have to like something because it's free for a day. Also, many visitors make the decision to download a game based on the comments. Why do you think that there's a thumb rating and a comments section at all? They'd be pretty pointless if people could only vote thumbs up and praise the games, regardless of their worth.

That's all I have to say about that.

This game is FUN! Seriously. My husband has lost hours of his life playing AirXonix, and this is a blend of AirXonix and Pacman. So, if you enjoy either of those games, this would be a good one for you to download. Many thanks to AxySoft and GGOTD.

Thanks - downloaded very quickly and works fine in Windows XP. This game is pac-man-like in the way you have to eat dots, bonuses and not getting touched. I have a hard time playing arrow-key games, but your movements are pretty quick. Overall, I'll keep playing for a while and see of it's a keeper. Thank you!

I have been very busy lately, so I was unable to review a few recent games. My hiatus is now over. Here is my review of Alonix:

The first thing that I noticed about this game was how strange the style was. There are forest backgrounds(for some reason, saved as GIFs), but the actual levels, player, and enemies are abstract. I could not tell if the player "character"(I don't know what else to call it) was supposed to be a flower, a helicopter, or some weird amalgam of the two.

The gameplay, though, was nice. For once, this site has gotten a Pac-Man clone that isn't completely horrible. The controls are responsive at both high and low speeds, the levels are designed well(while the view is limited, much more is visible than in the Packs games), the enemies have interesting patterns, and there are no extraneous powerups. The only fault(more of an idiosyncratic quirk, actually) is that the levels are slightly tilted, although that's hardly a problem.

The graphics, as said before, are odd. The play area and its contents are pastel-colored pre-rendered 3D, and are quite appealing, but the backgrounds are, as mentioned before, GIFs of forests. For those illiterati who don't know what GIFs are, GIF is an image format that restricts colors to 256 distinct colors. While this is no problem for low-res images like forum avatars(where animated GIFs are frequently used), on a background the dithering and pixellation are quite noticeable.

The sound is cold, like the colors. Powerups have a breaking-glass effect when destroyed, the music is composed mostly of chimes, and even the bizzare "Ai-yai-yai..." death sound is remote and crystalline. It's quite strange.

The theme is undiscernible. From the weird, polished, abstract in-play graphics, to the low-res menu and forest backgrounds, to the wintry sounds, it never ceased to confuse me. The name is strange, too.

Overall, I give Alonix a score of seven out of ten(nine for gameplay, six for graphics, eight for sound, and five for theme). If you liked Pac-Man, you will almost certainly like Alonix.

Small side note: Alonix will occasionally run in grayscale for short periods of time on Vista. It also has no less than five gameplay modes.

I LIKE this one. I wouldn't say that it's like Pac-Man (no power pills, no Inky, Blinky, Pinky, or Clyde ;-) ), more like the old school Crystal Castles, where the bear runs around eating all the buttons and avoiding the enemies. Fortunately I liked Crystal Castles (still have it around here someplace), and this one is actually much BETTER than that, due to all the varieties in the versions. in one you eat the buttons, another you eat the buttons and can jump over monsters, another you actually put buttons down, another you lay out grids instead of buttons, and another you change the colors of the rocks that you're running around on. And the impossible level I couldn't tell you, I've not stayed alive long enough to remember which one that is. :-O I like the music, and the backgrounds are varied and not hard to look at. Like Xonix before this one, this one is a keeper!

(Oh, and a note for the person who said "Dang. It wouldn’t let me choose where to download the program other than to my main Programs folder so I had to pass on this one. Sorry guys." *scratches head* That's odd. These things always seem to want to try to install into c:\Program Files, but I'm always able to install them where I want to, which is d:\freedownloads\. This program being no exception, it installed there with no problems.)

Come al solito c’è qualcosa che non funziona nel file di attivazione, non so perchè ogni volta mi interessa un software o un gioco non si riesce a scaricare, grazie comunque

According to http://babelfish.altavista.com/ (by the way i am not affiliated with that website in any which way) This (below) is what Cinzia was saying which was apparantly in Italian.

"As usual there is something that does not work in the activation rows, I do not know why every time interests me a software or a game is not succeeded to unload, thanks however"

Here is the answer by #2 (dude):
Did you activate the game before installing it? If you activate first, you won’t get a registration window.

Or translated into Italian by http://babelfish.altavista.com/

@ Cinzia Post # 6

Avete attivato il gioco prima dell'installazione esso? Se attivate in primo luogo, non otterrete una finestra di registro.

I already have the previous giveaway of this. It shows in my Control Panel\Uninstall Programs window as version 2.55, whereas the developer's website shows their current download as version 2.51. So I don't know if the 2 giveaways are exactly alike or not. I like the game, but don't see any need to download it again since there is no difference information given that I could find. IMO, it is well-worth checking out for anyone who hasn't tried it before.

You guy's have no true negotiators working for you? Get rid of these third rate (At best) games and seek out quality products that gamers will enjoy, not just kids and Geritol engulfers

Graphics and controls on par with Xonix, which I like a lot. Then again I was a closet Qix fan back in the day.

My previous complaint about "maze chases being larger than the desktop hampering play", is not really that noticeable here. The gameplay is fast and controls responsive.

One major gripe is that if you die in a "bad area" (trapped in or confined with enemies on a set pattern) the game will just restart you there despite the hopeless situation. Each game I tired I ended up losing lives in chunks until luck opened me a whole.

One major plus is that you can move right down the center of 2 rows of dots in open areas and eliminate both at the same time, if you feel safe enough to take time lining up the shot.

Random dropping power-ups, with the enemies ability to destroy them if they reach them first, is a welcome change from the standard practice of power ups placed in the quarters.

I have no idea what you typed in your comments since I can't read Spanish (I'm assuming that's Spanish). Not sure what to tell you except that if you want your comments to be understood by everyone, you should translate.

This game is nice, but I wouldn't compare it to Pac-Man as others are. There is no way to destroy the enemies, at least from what I have seen in the first few levels. At least with Pac-Man, you had Power Pellets. Pac-Man didn't give you power-ups like this game and the fruit couldn't be destroyed by the enemies. I tried using the mouse but it's easier to control with the keyboard.

Hi I would like to apologize and take back my previous comment that I left. The game isn't that bad once you play it a couple of times and you get used to it. Also the boards are more than full screen (I don't know what the heck I was saying when I posted my previous comment - I also apologize to the publisher)

This is definitely a keeper in my family as we thoroughly enjoyed it the first time around. I don’t have the original download any more so today’s repeat is very welcome.

The game looks tidy, and plays nicely. The options menu contains the usual changes including the ability to change the speed of the game; effectively acting as a difficulty control, the slower speeds pertaining to easy and the faster speeds to hard. There’s is mouse control as well as keyboard control. I prefer the mouse control, because I find it much more responsive to movement than the keyboard control. (I tried using both methods of control and found I easily won the early levels of most of the missions whereas using the keyboard was harder for me. You can save your progress from level to level by clicking on Esc and selecting save. All saves from each mission are kept on the same page so when you start up the game and select load game you can select any mission that you’ve played and saved. All missions are available from the start, so there’s not as much linearity in the game that you get with most arcade games.

The game is one of those (rare Pacman’s that IMO is well built, with several level types. There are actually five separate missions, each with a different theme, for example the brick platform (mission 2) where you are placed on an enemy platform and have to capture brick upon bricks; whereas in the Deep Space missions you have to fill in the spaces. Each of the five missions are distinctly different. Each mission contain 15 levels apart from the last two missions; Deep Space and Impossible, each of which contains 20 levels, making a total of 85 levels. Which are plenty enough to keep you challenged on a wet and windy Sunday?

There are five monster types, Wanderer, Hard Balls, Flying Spy, Hunter, and Sticky Thorns. All appear to be as effective as each other at catching you. There may be different behaviors, but I didn’t think to check while testing the game. To help you win each level there are several bonuses to be found; Extra Speed, Extra Life, Slow all monsters, stop all Monsters, and score bonuses as well as collecting amethysts. The latter one may have some significance but the help menu didn’t elaborate and I didn’t find any in the early levels. All bonuses are destroyed when any monster touches one, so make sure you quickly pick up the life bonuses before they are destroyed as you’re going to need them in later levels. To the bottom left of the screen is a small map of the level you are playing. It shows the monsters that are in the level as well as distinguishes between tiles that have been collected and those that have not. I found all missions were challenging especially Crazy Trek, and when played with the speed set to maximum will challenge even the most hardened of Pacman fans. This game (IMO) lends itself to giving a ‘very’ entertaining few hours of play, which for a Pacman clone is rather amazing (to me at least), as I generally wont consider playing them as I’ve had an aversion to playing them since their inception all those years ago. (I must have been rubbish at it and always preferred playing asteroids arkanoid and space invaders :) This particular clone is much better than the Pacman clones of a few days ago, although my family did find those playable (Packs Adventure and Packs 2)

Check out the Googled images below for an idea as to what the game looks like, though most of the images only show the first mission, which is a shame.

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=Alonix&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

I’m not usually a Pacman fan, but this game, which is similar to another one given away previously several months ago called Money Mania is well worth the effort to download.

Thank you Axysoft and the GGAotD team for this excellent Pacman clone.

Alonix is a fun variation of the PacMan-style platform games. It is pretty simple in design and easily played, so if you are expecting something jaw-dropping, this isn't your game. But, if you enjoy the basics like PacMan, you should enjoy Alonix, as well. The tune wasn't too bad and, for a five minute play, I may not have heard all of the game music. The keyboard controls were crisp, but I'm not sure if other controller options are available. One new feature I liked was seeing a jump action here, which would have made PacMan a more dynamic game. Quick & easy, & only 2.8 MB, give this one a try.

HUH? LMAO 3D? maybe if you're used to an Atari 2600

Xonix meets Pacman.... now that's fresh
in a stale kind of way

Uninstalling... kind of tired of lame brick busters, match three's, and 25 year old game concepts....

It's like buying a brand new 1977 Ford Fairlane every year for 30 years and having each new model be the same, just painted a different color.
I wish developers would step it up and INNOVATE

thanks for being here though guys and gals.

This game is great and only the first level of difficulty bears any resemblance to Pacman (complaint when posted another time). I would actually buy this game. I find the game modes fun and the controls are fairly tight. The graphics are also appealing. Certainly worth everyone's time to at least try it.
