Is there any place to find help / hints for this game?

I'm stuck on Level 20 and have been trying and trying - no chance.

I googled for help but to no avail.

Thanks.

Win7 64bit run it as (xp sp3)

The game is not so good that i would give money for it. It just like sokoban (freeware). I will give it a 4 out of 10

The publishers may need to check spelling in the game. In between levels six and seven there is an error. Otherwise not a bad game.

This is a fun game - easy to understand but sometimes challenging to find the right sequence of moves. I would like to see an "undo" button or key so I can back up and try a different path, without having to start over from the beginning. The scenes in between game levels are intriguing, I think I'm almost into the mansion. I fear 30 levels will be too short, but I'm enjoying it until then. Thanks GGOTD and Hand Made Games. I hope everyone has a great 2012!

like #7, it stalls for me. first time got story and start screen. Music was nice. Keyboard froze. Unable to click start or F4 or task manager. Hour later, skipped the story. Saw the special cursors - cute with flying witch and bug. Tried to ended player name, backspaced couple of times and system froze again. Too bad. Wanted to try it out.
Have Asus netbook, Win 7.

Window also would be nice. As no longer have the 12" monitor squares as standard, bothered me that graphics were off the screen on both top and bottom.

This does seem to be exactly the same game as Halloween Night Riddle, repackaged and renamed.

It is definitely, without regard to what it is called, a very good puzzle game and although each screen is 'more of the same' to some extent, after some levels it does get really difficult and challenging. I've enjoyed this game since it was first released and is a well-deserved keeper for me. :)

Runs perfectly on my Windows XPsp3 system. it's similar in view as the recent popular game EDGE by Two Tribes, but is very different in game mechanics. Thanks GGOTD and Hand Made Games!

I extracted the game using the built in extractor. I guess I should have said it doesn't run. The 1st problem I encountered was Mamutu didn't like it. Said it emulated mouse activity. I told it to run it anyway. Then I got a Windows message "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly". It indicated it would close the program and notify me if a solution was available. No solution wa forthcoming. I also tried running it as the administrator and had the same results.

Installed with no problem to the place where i wanted it ( Vista x64). I liked the game & i will keep it.

One suggestion: It would be nice if the levels follow each other automatic with a option to go to the "Select Level" screen if you want to, instead of going there each time after you finish a level. To me this works distracting from the storyline and gives me the feeling i'm playing "pieces" instead of a whole game.

Besides that i liked the puzzles and (visual) storyline in between.

Thanks Hand Made Games, GOTD and whiterabbit !

Definitely a good logic puzzle game. As previously mentioned, it's a bit short, and I would definitely like to see a level editor, which would of course lead to a need to share levels. I had no problems loading, installing, nor executing (Win7 64-bit). Those recommendations aside, I find nothing further to ask for, this is a very good puzzle game, and I thank you!

Pretty neat game -- not my usual style but I'm enjoying it so far.

You can adjust the volume with the mouse (move around until your target's left/right arrows highlight), but it's a huge pain because of the oddball mouse pointer. I realize they're trying for atmosphere, but the custom pointers should be optional like in most games.

I'm not into Halloween stuff at all, but it still seems like a fun game once you turn the music down. ;) I'll be playing some more -- so far, the pointer's not as hard to use in the game itself.

Seems a shame that they cover up what looks to be a victory animation when you reach the purple goal in each stage, though; it's covered/blocked by another layer of graphics confirming that you reached the goal.

BTW, Whiterabbit, I hate to see you go to so much trouble to think up game suggestions when some of the ones we see have been out for years and are highly unlikely to change. Still, like many others I really appreciate the effort you go to in putting together your reviews. Best wishes to you and the rest of the (g)GOTD team! And thanks to Hand-Made Games. :)

..................Moderator Comment.....................

Thanks Dean. Though I'd never expect any of my suggestions to be implemented into one of the older games, nor for that matter most recently released games. The suggestions are more for future games that the developer may create. :)

Got it to work on my Win 7 x64 Nvidia setup by checking 'Disable desktop composition', whatever that is, as suggested by Whitewabbit. I thought I had tried that this morning, but obviously hadn't.
Very short game, I don't know exactly how long it took to finish it, but it wasn't a long time. Enjoyable just the same, if you ignore the story, but I was never one for stories in this type of puzzle game. I have played this game previously, but I don't recall when and where I got it from. Like Bloxorz, this is one of those games that I can go back to and replay if there is a long gap between plays.

@14 - I suspect that the game is just trying to write to the registry, likely in a non-standard place. Windows 7 and Vista tightened up security so that some older Windows XP programs, which had free reign on the registry, now require Admin privileges. It is probably OK to run the game as an admin without concern.

game crashes after 1st level

.........................Moderator Comment...................

No one else has reported crashing after the first level, (there have been almost five and a half thousand downloads since this morning) which would indicate that you may not have your computer set up correctly for this game. It's almost certainly a problem at your end. Perhaps update your grasphics and DirectX drivers. It may be the resolution you are running at or a conflict with another program, such as one that's preloaded when you start windows up. You could try closing down programs one at a time then trying the game to see if it works or not.

Have you defragged yourm hard drive/s recently. If not it could be that your hard drive is badly defragmented. Badly defragmented drives can lead to errors.

WR, thanks for all your hard work. You are very patient with people who don't bother to read your reviews and had rather complain first. I can't remember ever having any trouble installing games from this site. Again, it seems people are too quick to blame the program or site instead of their own ineptness. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Fine Win 7 x64 full screen. Adjusts sound - music levels ok w/ mouse.
Make own shortcut.
It's like a few of these from before. Easy until level 7 of 30 took a few tries. Stopped there for review. Study preview then try a few different paths than obvious. The thin 'story' line sort of helps. No biggie game winner but pleasant way to begin New Years. Gets too heavy on gray matter just delete folder. Guess 7.5/10 with 8 for fans.
Off to play in sunny Manhattan 51 before falls to the teens?!%&#@

I could cope with having to play in full screen, but not with the sound and music up high. I can get to the options, but the sound & volume do not seem to be adjustable. I shall not play this one, as I like to listen to my own choice of music when I play so I always turn off the sounds & music of any game.
Pity.

...................Moderator comment..................

I can tell you didn't read my review. ;-) To adjust the volume use the 'left' or 'right' cursor (arrow) keys to scroll through whether to increase or decrease the volume of either the sound or music, then press 'Enter' to activate the reduction or increase. The volume increases or decreases in increments of 10% either way; you need to press 'Enter' for each 10% increment. Once you've finished adjusting the volume of the sound effects and music, continue to scroll until the back button is selected then click on 'Enter' again to return to the main menu. It's definitely an unusual way of adjusting the volume. I hope this helps.

You can actually put your own music in the games Music folder. They are MP3 files so all you need to do is re-label the music files to Level1, Level2, Level3, Level 4 and Menu. You can put any size of music file so long as it's MP3 and you relabel to replace the defaut music. You'll find the path:

C:\Games\ASEP\Data\Music\

Happy New Year, Everyone!

LOL, this game gave me the first laugh of 2012! Came to GGOTD and saw Halloween and thought WTF????? But I will definitely try it, since I loved Last Conundrum, and lost it when I had a drive crash. Hopefully it will appear here again, as so many games do...

Looking forward to a year of new games to play!

The program installed ok - (Win7 32 bit) Ultimate - had a little problem with adjusting video - worked on it - seems to be fine. Good for smaller kids - 7 to 10 but the beautiful witch should also be a bit more age appropriate - o'well - that's just my opinion.

Hi GGOTD Team & Mod & Bry68,

I just installed this game on my Vista Home Prem., SP2, X64 laptop and installation went OK. HOWEVER, the game would NOT run unless I activated the "Run as Administrator" function for this Simple program.

1) Isn't that a Strange Behaviour for a simple program like this that it does not even create a short-cut or anything?

2) May be the report of the person above, comment #3, might have some validity to it ... and tghis program be acting as a Keylogger or a Trojan or some kind of Malware!?!?

I just uninstalled it from my laptop and plan to run a Complete Deep Scan with my Antivirus program!

Thanks!

G!:)

.........................Moderator comment........................
The giveaway team do a in depth check on all games given aways, using several malware packages. If you consider that the game giveaway project has been running since Dec 2nd 2006 and there has never been a confirmed trojan, virus or other malware. Occasionally we get reports of some activity, but it's usually from one or two users out of thousands and they have always been proven to be false positives. It's always user error (in setting up their software) that is to blame.

If there had been any sign of malware we would have been inundated with complaints by now, but no, one person mentions the word key logger and it stops users from downloading the game. (I can see why as some won't take a risk, even when this site has been shown to be a clean site). I know that's everyone's prerogative, butIi really wish those users who report such issues make sure they are very sure of their results before posting in these comments section. (For example, we had a decent game the other week in which someone early on in the giveaway reported a trojan. The program ended up being one of the least downloaded games since I've been checking on download numbers since 2009, simply because many had been scared off downloading the program.

I know it's important to report possible viri, but as already mentioned, the users reporting them should really make sure before over reacting.

Depending upon which operating system (O.S.) that you have, you should be able to search for the executable which is ASEP.exe. If you are still using Windows XP click on the Start button, then select the search function and type in ASEP. If you are using vista or Win 7 open the start menu and type ASEP in the 'search programs and files' field at the bottom of the menu then enter. You should find the executable if it was installed. you could also try reinstalling the game making a note of where it's going to be installed. The default (as mentioned in my review above is C:\Games\ASEP\ASEP.exe, but you can change the install path to suit your own tastes. :)

I hope this helps (Sorry for the late reply, was distracted).

First of all a HUGE thanks to Whiterabbit for the A-M-A-Z-I-N-G job is doing for this small (and much friendlier than the GOTD/software) community and obviously also HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games... Here is mine:

Please add a "SKIP" button to avoid having to read through all the intro tales and it would be great if you could also add an option to forward to the next level WITHOUT having to manually click on "Continue" every time.

Thanks again and... Not a single snowflake this year (weird actually) so I am gonna have fun with something else ;)

..........................Moderator Comment......................

That's a good idea. I also think the ability to play in a window would be useful and a levels editor so that we could create more levels as i think 30 just isn't enought. Games used to have at least a hundred levels several years ago. It seems like a lot of developers are short changing us with respect to content since the price of most arcade games dropped from an average of $19.99 to $6 or $7

Happy New Year you all !! and especially to White Rabbit.

This game is much like Bloxorz but much more simple to play and embedded in a storyline (nice touch).

You can try Bloxorz online here http://www.bloxorzgame.com/

There is only a fullscreen playing mode which I don't like. The game is not too hard to play.

Before we got Last Conundrum of Da Vinci Deluxe: http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/last-conundrum-of-da-vinci-deluxe/
which I would prefer over the game today because it is more of a challenge (In my opinion even the best game given away ever).

I go outside and play rainballs with friends and relatives now

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope all community members have a successful 2012 and that you manage to succeed in any new Years Resolutions and endevours that you all undertake ....
GOOD LUCK!
. I hope you all become rich and amazingly happy. ;-)

I won't be posting a full review today; hopefully the information below will be sufficient to give you an idea about todays game, which is called All Saints’ Eve Puzzle.

I'll try and moderate as often as I can, but we are off out visiting for part of the day, so there may be times when it appears that your comment has disappeared. Please bear with me and I promise I will moderate all comments and try to solve any problems or answer queries before the game giveaway ends. As suggested below, if your query is urgent it may also be a good idea to post your queries and problems over in the game discussion forums. I've included a link towards the end of my short review that takes you to the front page.

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of potential cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain why your reasons for the feedback you post. Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment. Thank you.

Installation:

The game donloads to a 23.4MB dual actvation and setup module and a read me with the terms and conditions plus installation instructions. The game installs to a folder called ASEP (AllSaintsEve Puzzle), and the default path (wghich you can change) for install is

C:\Games\ASEP\ASEP.exe

There is no desktop or Start menu shortcuts installed so make a note of where you install the game if you decide to change the default path.

The game works in Windows XP 32 bit, and Win 7. 64bit. I haven't testd it on Vista yet.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com
The game:

The game has some similarities to Last Conundrum of Da Vinci Deluxe which we've had as a giveaway previously, but it's got a slightly different game mechanic. The aim of the game is to get the blocks/cubes to the violet plate via other collapsable plates. To complete a level you must destroy all the plates between the start and the violet plate. some plates need to be moved over more than once.

When starting the game for the first time you will be introduced to the game through a brief story, then the main menu appears. Starting a new game will bring up the profile page where you can create several new profiles. Once you've started a game progress is automatcally saved once you've completed a level. There are thirty levels to complete. each level see's you progress through a dark environment that reminds me of one of those cheap and nasty Halloween screensavers. Very blocky ground textures, but overall the story adds some flavour to the game.

The game mechanics are simple. To move the block you can use either the left mouse click or the arrow/cursor keys. The options are very basic with only sound effects and music controllers which have to be selected then use the enter key on the appropriate arrow to either reduce or increase the volume. The music is very horror/ gothic in nature. Great for a halloween night, but not very appropriate for the Christmas/New year period; still it's a free game with some potential to entertain. There's no windowed mode.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com
Conclusion:

It's not a game I would have expected on a festival week such as Christmas or for a New Years celebration, but as a puzzle game it's okay. The graphic looks a little dated, but it may just be the art work. Definitely a keeper for a rainy day.

Score:
Gameplay - 7
Graphic - 6
Audio - 7
Replayability - 5
Originality - 5

Overall Score 6 out of 10

If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following – for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” Check to see if your internet explorer isn’t offline (thanks to MrSnoozles/Mike and GMMan for that fix).

Fistly check to see if your computers specifications match or are better than those quoted.

Mike suggests that you check to see if Internet Explorer is offline (even if you use Firefox). If it is then make sure that it’s online then try again. I’ve always tried re-booting my modem and/or router with some success, though Mike has said that doing that does nothing. Still, it’s worth a try if all else fails.

If you are getting the black screen problem right click on the games executable and select properties then click on the compatibility mode and select the disable visual themes. This should fix the problem, if not try disabling the display scaling on higher dpi settings and disabling the desktop composition.

Other fixes include changing your screen resolution, installing the latest direct X (remember that XP uses DX 9 or earlier only, Vista uses DX 10 or before and Win 7 DX11 or before). Also try updating your graphics drivers. The main two chip manufacturers are NVIDIA and ATI both of which offer driver downloads for free. Just go to the respective manufactures home page and you’ll find a link to the driver download page. To find out which graphic card or graphics chip your computer uses type in Dxdiag in the search field (Vista or Win 7) or the run command (XP); this opens up the DirectX diagnostics panel. click on the display tab and look to the left panel. You should easily see what graphics card or chip you are using. (This is required information when selecting the correct download from the developers site).

If you are having problems unzipping the game giveaways zip file, for example getting a message saying the file is invalid try using a different file archiver such as 7-Zip http://7-zip.org/ , J-Zip http://www.jzip.com/ , CAM UnZip http://www.camunzip.com/ , Hamster Free Zip Archiver http://ziparchiver.hamstersoft.com/en/home , GZip http://www.gzip.org/ , B Zip2 http://bzip.org/ , peazip http://www.peazip.org/ , ZipUnzip http://www.info-zip.org/UnZip.html , FreeRAR Extract Frog http://free-rar-extract-frog.pwpw.de/ , RAR File Open Knife http://www.rar-file-open-knife.com/rar_file_open_knife.php , ALZip http://www.altools.com/ALTools/ALZip.aspx , The Extractor http://theextractor.org/ , RarZilla Free Unrar http://www.philipp-winterberg.com/software/rarzilla_free_unrar.php

Okay, that should be enough. There are actually many more free versions available. also there are other commercial titles such as the well-known WinRAR, Stuffit, WinAce, NXPowerlite and Corel Winzip Pro, but IMO 7-Zip is probably one of the better freebies. I did purchase a copy of Stuffit when it was on sale a few years ago, but didn’t like the interface for some reason, so hardly ever use it.

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game discussion section. If you’ve installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn’t guaranteed. It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them as well.

Alternatives:

If you don't find today's game entertaining enough or are looking for something else, check out the game discussion forums and the free games synopsis. We’ve posted a couple of thousand free games over the last three years, some of which are fantastic. You can find the forums via the following link:

All of the major game distributors such as Steam, Direct 2 Drive (soon to combine with another site), Impulse and GOG all have fantastic sales with savings as good as 90% in some cases. My favourite Steam has virtually all of their games on sale plus there are daily deals as well. At the moment you can get amazing deals on Dead Island plus DLC 50% off, Magika plus all DLC's 75% off, Counterstrike Franchise 75% off, rochard 50% off, Might & Magic Franchise between 50% to 75% off (includes the latest two games Might & Magic Heroes VI and Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes plus DLC), Hoard plus all DLC's 75% off, Bit.Trip Runner & Bit.Trip Deat 75% off, L.A. NOIRE The Complete Edition 75% off, Dundeons & Dragons: Daggerdale 66% off . The Hitman Franchise (three games) 75% off, Bioshock & Bioshock 2 75% off, and GRID 75% off . These deals end around midnight GMT though a new set of daily deals starts about 10 hours after the game giveaway starts. :) The sales are almost over. The daily deals end on the 2nd January. So this evenings new set of daily deals will be the last of the sale. In previous sales they have usually repeated the best of the sale items on the last day. These are not the only games on sale. Most of Steams stock have anything between 25% to 90% off. they have agrowing number of casual arcade games and a few hundred excellent Indie games. It's not just Steam that have a sale on; most of the main game distributors have good sales on including the arcade distributors such as Big fish and Gamehouse. You can check out all of the main distributors via the Didematic Site. If you don't mind Zombies i highly recommend Dead Island. I've had so much fun playing single player and co-op with friends. also Hoard, Might & Magic: Heroes VI, L.A.NOIRE, both bioshock games (the third one is out in a few months), the hitman series 9a little dated now, but still excellent game play. also the Dungeons & Dragons and rochard plus magika. all are great games.

If you don't mind spending a little more money I also highly recommend the latest elder Scrolls game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. There's a possibility that it may be back in the sale later today, tohugh don't quote me.
