Alien Earth 2
In Brief
A third person exploration game made with the Unity engine, where you locate a ship that has crashed landed on an alien planet.
The Game
I'll post a review of Alien Earth 2 just as soon as I've had the opportunity to play the game. It's currently available via Itch.io for a minimum of $5, but we get the game for free today. :)
The graphics are colourful levels to explore and bosses to beat. On your way you'll encounter lots of puzzles to unravel. You can see a video of game play HERE. The game reminds me a little of that classic adventure game Beyond Good and Evil
The game opens with a configuration window that allows you to choose your screen resolution, graphics quality (Fantastic, balanced or performance) and if you have a multi monitor display you can select which monitor to play from as well as to choose windowed or full screen. There is an input tab that tells you what keyboard bindings to use for game play:

Movement keys WASD or arrow keys
Fire 1 = Left Mouse button
Fire 2 = Right Mouse button or left Alt
Fire 3 = Middle Mouse button or left Shift
Submit = Enter
Cancel = Esc
Jump = Space

The game is also set up for joystick control

You can remap any key binding by double clicking on the key to be changed, then selecting the key you wish to be used.

If you fall into water you'll die and re-spawn near to where you died. The aim of the game is to find the crashed ship that accompanied you on your initial journey. To open doors you need to find special release plates and/or crystals, some of which are hidden from view behind secret doors, which can only be opened by finding the appropriate opening plate. These are easily identified becasue they look like wells with a glowing aura around them.
Also smash any stone crates that have a glowing symbol on them. I've not figured out why you need to destroy those crates yet and so far don't seem to gain anything from them. Some release plates open secret doors that hide the crystals required to open some doors. Crystals are red in colour. To activate them stand in front of them, this turns them blue. Once you've located all the crystals and activated them, the door should open. At the end of each level you will be faced with a boss. I spent a few attempts at killing the boss, but died each time, losing all my lives. When this happens you re-spawn in the vicinity of the area you died in with all your lives intact again. On my fourth attempt, I just ran past the boss and was able to proceed to the next level without having to kill it. Smaller enemies are relatively easy to kill.

Installed the game to my D: partition, and upon completion found that it set up FIVE desktop shortcuts; one for the actual game and another unwanted FOUR shortcuts, that had been set up in the C: partition without my permission.
That's an installer that says pffft to where you choose to install it, and by the way you have these unwanted shortcuts as well.
That's not a nice setup program.

No matter how I set the graphics the movement was slow and clunky, far too much so for enjoyable play. Is this true for Unity based games? What sort of computer is required to make this run smoothly? Thank you anyway.

Good morning,
As Zuckerberg's gang closed my FB account without explication several months ago, I tried to get a link by clicking on the link "here" in "You can get a download link via push notifications. To receive it, please click here.".
Then I read : "The link has been sent to you. You'll get it just in a few seconds.".
This happened around 40 minutes from now...
I use Firefox with notifications allowed.
Can somebody explain me :
- where the link has been sent ?
- what means "a few seconds" ?
Thanks in advance.

Like most Unity games, there is no option to invert Y.

Why is it that Uniity has not made this a default control option? Look at the comments for just about every unity game and you'll find people like me who have played with Y inverted for years and cannot switch on a whim.

Other than not having fun while fighting a "boss" and getting disorientated due to my reflexes being trained for inverted Y, it looks like it is a well done casual game.

Sorry but the mouse control is not good too swimmy or too lose and can't control the character like that. So no go from me, What a shame looked good too.

My opinion of the game? Eh. Run around, and break things (while looking for a ship). Does the game have some kind of map to it, telling you where you are in the game? Or is the planet you crashed on, very small, and so you don't need a map? I saw a couple of minutes video of this game (Wasn't a good one), and with what I could see with that, was that your running around this place, and using your sword to break things (boxes, and that's it)....oh how exciting!
And as for the comment made, about breaking the boxes? In probably one or more, or possibly ONE box, where there's probably another weapon of sorts, you'll pick up, or collect. I may be wrong, but where you do this breaking of stuff in many other games, there's usually something you take, or collect, AFTER breaking certain objects. (Otherwise, what would be the purpose of going around breaking a WHOLE BUNCH of boxes?? What a waste of time THAT would be, and not very intelligent to do!
Anyway, this game doesn't look challenging at all, to me. Maybe a young person, would like it. The directions telling what keys to use, and what they do, is pretty simplified. I like the idea, that there isn't that many controls you have to use. And of course, the graphics look nice.
And so, I believe I'm passing this one up. I'm not feeling the thrill of adventure, when all I would be doing is spending WAY too much time, running around a planet and breaking things (while looking for a ship).
