Age of Steel:

In Brief:
This is not the same game as the side scrolling tower defence game Age of Steel found on Steam. It is a simple RTS game made with the Unity engine, and worth downloading if you enjoy games like the Total War franchise, Warhammer, Age of Empires or the Cossacks franchise; though Age of Steel is not in their league, it's still worth checking out; especially if you don't actually own any of the aforesaid mentioned games.

You can see a video of game play HERE.
Introduction:
Age of Steel will take you into the journey through an endless medieval world. You will meet other nations, explore endless forests and meadows, collect iron, gold and wood to build your settlements. Finally you will train armies of hundreds or even thousands (would take you many hours to get such a large army), which will help you to conquer this world...
Edited reference accessed HERE 17th Jan 2022.
The Game:
Build your village with various types of building that will enable you to create your army that can then fight off or attack other communities. Graphics are basic, but the game works and is quite rewarding if you are willing to put in a few hours of building. Some of the first big name games I played were of this type and I would spend hours at a time building up my forces then go ravishing the neighbourhood communities. Great fun, especially if you win. :)

It reminds me of a beta I played a few years ago called Dawn of Man, though the graphic for that game is superior and has a lot more game play elements.
Conclusion:
The game play is a bit clunky and camera controls are slow to respond, but overall the game does work and if you are prepared to spend some time learning the controls and building up your village and armed forces, it can be quite rewarding. It's not Total War or Age of Empires, but it does give you a feel for RTS games in general. If you do enjoy playing this and have never played any of the AAA versions I've mentioned above, then you will love them. It's a reasonable starting point if you are new to Real Time Strategy games. Once you get into it, you'll be looking for one of the other better made RTS games. I highly recommend any one of those mentioned above. Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 57 antimalware engines.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that only opens your browser once to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and also places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer over a year ago (that installer would show an advert for a game and then open your browser each time you played and then closed the game down.)

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:

For other free games, please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies; it's kept up to date frequently, whenever a free game becomes available, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Also for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies. Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links at the top of this comment as well.

Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:

1) ... Six Sides of the World (a puzzle videogame that takes you into an intergalactic journey through different star systems riddled with brain-racking challenges)

2) ... Byte Family (this one was given away previously, but was then removed from the free section, another chance to grab) it - Overcome obstacles and restore the cyber world Byte Family, eliminating the system virus, unlocking new game modes and gaining new skills!

3) ... Avani: The Primal Land (Explore, gather, learn, craft and build in the world of Avani: The Primal Land. Fight, hunt and tame wild animals. Animals have their own genetics and no animal is like the other. The interactive taming process allows making a real bond with each tame. Avani offers a unique crafting system combined with a huge skill tree and an intuitive building system mixed with traditional survival game elements)

4) ... Cov Shooter (Try to survive as many waves as possible, upgrade your stats and weapons to do that)

5) ... Garfield Kart (a family oriented racing game with cartoon like graphics)

6) ... Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, (a point and click mystery adventure)

The following (previously) free games have now been removed from the free library: Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (112 games are available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; so, you should grab them as soon as you can.

The latest free game from Epic is a repeat called Galactic Civilization III that was originally given away last year on the 22nd Jan 2021; so, if you missed it back then here's your opportunity to grab it now. :) - Build a civilization that will stand the test of time! Choose from dozens of unique races and make a name for yourself across the galaxy through diplomacy, espionage, technological advances, and more.

Next Thursday the 20th January at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting Relicta a first-person physics-based puzzle game where you need to creatively combine magnetism and gravity to unravel the secrets of Chandra Base. Play as a top physicist stranded on an eerie, derelict Moon base. Find your way around the enigmatic, terraformed craters by bending gravity and magnetism to your will in order to solve physical puzzles. Will you rush straight ahead and try to reach safety - or will you take your time to gather clues and unravel the intrigues of 22nd century orbital politics? Buried in the eternal darkness of the lunar craters lies a secret that might claim your daughter’s life - or change the fate of humanity forever. Are you ready to face the ultimate consequences of your research?
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. You can find Fanatical games (that used to be called Bundle stars) HERE.

I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis. I won't be posting them daily this time; only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE

So far I've posted two excellent games i.e. Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe (a squad based solo shooter) and Battlegroup 44 (a free standing mod for Battlefield 2 that is a follow up to the original Battlefield 1942). Plus, I've moved over to the new forum, a couple of games from a failed restart of this project from just before the pandemic; (one of my favourite breakouts called Breakquest and an android game called Messy Paths).

Fridays free game from Falcoware i.e. Black And White Apocalypse by the developer hammergames is apparently always free and can also be downloaded as a colour version. The community member Space pointed this out yesterday. You can find both versions over on itch.io via the following links. Black & White version, and Coloured version. :)

You can also find 'all nine' of the developers games (for free) HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

Stay safe everyone.

Going give it a look see and Messy Paths later today if I don't get mad with my tech again, lol.

Happy New Year, Mr. Whiterabbit. <3
