Retro Wave Race is a game in the genre of arcade racing.

Did you ever play "Gomoku", also known as "Noughts and Crosses"? Did you enjoyed this game? However that may be, we proudly present for your viewing pleasure modern vision of this ancient logical game - Advanced Gomoku.

The rules are the same. One, who combines "five-in-row" wins. But now the game field is unbounded, and there are no more restrictions on the duration of your battles with AI. In training mode "undo", "redo" functions, game hints and warnings are available, but if you want to see your result in high-scores, you are to play tournament, where all these features are disabled. If your game field becomes too large, you can use the dockable minimap window for better orientation and faster movement.

I really like this game but I would like to suggest that there be a third option in the Game tab under “Computer moves”…

Currently the option are “first (Computer vs Human)” and “second (Human vs Computer)”

There really ought to be a third option that’s random… that is, there will be a 50% chance of human first or computer first. That might make it more fun for those who like to try both ways but don’t like having to change the order often.

is GOTD even checking the wrapped package they get from giveaway authors? like recguard that burned sky tried to put in my startup registry. if you're not running registry checkers or startup monitors you just might be getting more than a free game. after two in a row, i'm staying away from alive games.

My only gripe with this software is that it also puts 2 other, unwanted shortcuts on your desktop.

Sometimes it is fun to watch 2 CPU's go head to head.

At first glance I thought, hey, noughts and crosses, something I’ve not played since school days, to while the hours away while in boring lessons; such a simple and uninspiring game. How on earth could you make a computer based game out of such a game. Well I was wrong……... Thanks Swan for the review. I nearly gave this one a pas, although I was still intending to do a quick review. I wasn’t able to earlier because I was having a wheelchair assessment today, so didn't get chance to check this out earlier. I'm glad as it would have taken me ages to work through the options menu, lol. It's a pity it doesn't have full screen mode, or at least the ability to expand the playing field a little, especially for those with sight impairments; but then the mini map would be compromised, not that I see much use for it.

This is a far more complex game that I first realized, with a very large grid to play from. The ability to play either the computer or another human should make this a great game for those on long night shifts where there is nothing much to do apart from read a book, or to perhaps get your partner playing along side you instead of being a solitary game player.

I'll be keeping it, simply because it's different to the hundreds of games I've already bought or received free over the past decade or so. Yeah, I still occasionally play old DOS games and all those freebies you used to get on a floppy disc years ago :)

Nice little gem Alive Games, thank you for the opportunity to try this out for an extended period of time. And as usual to the GGAotD team for providing this win win scenario for the developer/Distributor and the consumer. :) :)

PS Pamela, check back to the comments section of 2 days ago Ronin Solitaire May 7th comment #52 for my email. Then you'll have that CSI game I promised. :)

Vista is still in its first revision. The idea that anyone would buy into Microsoft's new operating system this early is simply laughable. It is common knowledge that all new operating systems are train wrecks when they are first released and are not functional even to the most basic degree until they have been revised several times. (i.e Mac OS X) Using Vista to play games when you could be using XP is like choosing a 386 over a Pentium 4 - it's simply unfathomable. This is why there are so many complaints about Vista. It's not even close to being stable in the most basic degree.

That being said, I find this Gomoku game pretty plain. I know video games can include electronic versions of board games, but come on. This doesn't cut it in my opinion. Not recommended.

Good morning everyone! ;)

The game downloaded cleanly, activated and installed well.

Played with the three choices of skin (pretty cool) and finally settled on the ancient skin. Trouble was that then the close icon(x) and minimize icon(-) were too well camouflaged and I couldn't immediately find them in the beginning. However, I did find them and kept the skin anyway. But after I closed the game and relaunched - it reverted back to the normal skin, so you'd have to choose it again every time you wanted to play. That's simply bad software programming.

Graphics are very simple, clear but mostly muted - what else could you expect for a glorified noughts and crosses game? ;) This could easily have been created by a college student in a short amount of time.

Options are fairly comprehensive, in fact too much so for such a basic game. You can change animation speeds and also dock the game to the desktop - which means that it would be running in memory all the time - I definitely don't like that idea either.

You can choose to play 1st or 2nd and also choose your difficulty level. There are multiple sound FX that you can check and uncheck if you don't want to hear them and uhhh no music at all!

I'd love to have some of these options available in more complex games, but it really seems like overkill for this game.

I suppose I'll keep it to kill a short time, but I can't see me choosing it over other games to play if I have a longer time to play a really fun game.

It's certainly not a game to rave about.

Thank you Alive Games for another contribution to this initiative and I sincerely hope you finding value in your presence here!

Thanks again GOTD for providing the software gifts in return for our reviews! ;)

wextract.exe is a small program built into Windows which can extract those little .cab (zip-files Microsoft style) files. This is probably a left-over from an installation of an application, in which wextract tries to clean up any temp-files needed for the installation. This alert you are getting, can be ignored, there seem to be more spyware-removers that think wextract.exe is a spyware, probably because it has algorythms similar to a 'real' spyware. Nothing to worry abou

I must give this game a thumbs down. The Help buttton does nothing. I thought it might be due to the install directory (I put all games in my GAMES directory) so I uninstalled and reinstalled to the default directory - No avail. I had to go into explorer and find the help file (html). I didn't find it very helpful. The graphica could be much better. I couldn't place pieces in the top or bottom rows, or in the first or last columns. After finally figuring out how work it, I realized that it just not very fun.

#3 -- check out the info at the following web site. Wextract_cleanup0 is actually the cleanup utility after installing the program.

I like this game. Simple, but challanging. But there's one big disadvantage when installing the game: it also installs secretly the program Wextract_cleanup0. Spyware? So in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 9 points.
