So the download was easy going. The installation for me was flawless. I always untick the box for running the game now anyway. Then I open the game with no problem. By the way thanks GGTD and Xing Interactive for giving that game for 24h.
The positive feedback:
1. This is good for young children. Perhaps add alphabetical and numerical tiles and a smaller background.
2. I love the fact you can edit the tiles and the background and create another set right from my imagination. That's the first "mahjongg" that does that.

The negative feedback: (I have played many "Mahjongg" games)
1. There is no cheat options.
2. There is no shuffle option.
3. There is no music off/on option.
4. The graphics is way too simple and perhaps a bit too old for adults.
5. There should be way more tiles and backgrounds than what is offered in this game.
6. I have not seen the game originally entitled Mahjongg which is played by 4 players (3 computers and one myself). That would be nice as there is not enough Mahjongg games and too many "Majongg". You could look at the old game Hongkong Mahjong for an example of this.
7. Change the music or add more music files to be selected during game play

Odd that the first time I didn't get the opportunity to review a game in a long time it turns out to be virtually unplayable. Sorry I didn't get the chance to warn you folks of its quality (lack of).

We still have several games in the lists at the moment. can't say what they are, but 'probably' all will be a big improvement on todays giveaway.

I don't have time to answer everyones queries today. We are going out again in just over an hour, so won't be posting anything for Sundays game, except some basic info.

I have tried to install the game several times since last night. I have tried re-downloading as well. The installer hangs at 1% and has to be forcibly shut down.

Comodo gave me a virus threat message so I let this on go.

..........................Moderator Comment........................

Hello Lida, in the almost 7 years that the game giveaway has existed, there has never been one game infected with malware, but there has been many false positives. The setup.gcd file contains security that can be misread as malware. Your anti-malware program is almost certainly reading this as the virus threat.

I love yor website, bu this game has got to be one of the worst in terms of actual play. There is no "Play" button (I finally figured out how to start it by double clicking on a tile layout), there is no 'Hint" button if you get stuck, and there is no "Shuffle" button or no warning of "no more moves". In the first layout given, for some reason you cannot click on tiles that are inside against the water (yet they are not touching another tile). I have played many Mahjongg games and this has got to be the worst in what it has left out of the game. You can't even exit the layout you're playing when there are no other moves, unless you completely exit the game. It's ridiculous. On a scale of 1-10, I give it a minus 5.

Major problems with this game. Changed my 1980x1280 display to a resolution I hadn't seen since the early 80's, 320x200?? or 640x400?? or maybe 800x600??, it's been so long since I used these resolutions.

Very confusing since all I got was desktop screen. I un-installed it using Your Uninstaller and guess what? it was still in the start menu and I clicked on it and the devil came up. Will completely remove it from my system eventually.

Only just got back in after a very long day away from home. I'm shattered so need to crash now. I'll endeavour to sort any queries before the end of the giveaway (if I'm able to).

That said I'm not sure whether I'll be up to writing anything tomorrow, including the next review as we are going out again to visit my wifes parents who are away on a caravanning vacation.

Tomorrows game is another game never given away before. We aren't leaving until mid morning, so I'll see how I feel about posting something in the morning.
:)

Good night folks

A second try brought this game straight into the bin.

Though not all the horrible things the gamers are describing in their comments happened to me, I now noticed, that 2 tiles (at least) were dead.
This mistake is not a question of incompatibility, it's a flawed construction.
That's a no-go, even for me. A game may be ugly and old, but it has to play with me.

The game failed to load properly on my two monitor setup. As such, it needs a window option rather than full screen.

Also, this may be due to the way it loaded on my second monitor, but I was unable to create a game of Mahjong to play. It allowed me to create my own tile, select the board layout, etc, but I did not see a play button or something along those lines to even start the game itself. It definitely needs an UI over haul.

Worst game I ever played.
Matches that are no matches but tiles are removed by the game.
Tiles are not counted correctly.
At the end there are tiles left that do not match.
Back to the drawing table.

I love Mahjong games, but this one bites. I played one round with the traffic tiles, and clicking on about any two tiles was a match. I found that out by accident, when I accidentally clicked something that didn't have a match. I just clicked another tile that did have a match and viola, a match. What's up with that? The people who made this game, need to go look at other mahjong games and take this one back to the drawing board. I uninstalled it. Great concept........bad game.

Con:
In the few minutes I played it, the sounds - called music - killed my nerves.
The visuals are Win 98 (at best).
You can't resume an interrupted game.
Pro:
You can mute the sounds.
You can not only make your own layouts, but also design new tiles with a basic icon editor.
You can define the timer: not timed or 5 min...4min...3min... as you like it best.
Result:
I'll keep it, as I collect everything called Mahjongg.

Well I don't say this often, but "out of the box" this is a hoorible game. the "default" images are in a way that playing this game is nearly impossible for me. Although there is a field and tile editor, the amount of mahjong games (free and paid) is so big that this game probably will never get any real playerbase. Fun for those that want to create their own tiles and fields, no fun at all for those that just want to play a mahjong game

I enjoy Mahjong games so went ahead and downloaded this one even though the votes were overwhelmingly in the negative and there were not comments posted yet. When I went ot play after the download the entire game was upside down! I even had to think upside down to get my cursor to the exit button! I'll try a full uninstall and re-download.

Installed easily and perfectly. But when I played the game, on at least three of the layouts there were "dead zones" where a tile could not be selected that should have been available. On one layout there were four tiles left and the two showing were a match but could not be paired, and the tile counter at the bottom of the page said there were six left, not four. SO, I think they should go back to the drawing board!I uninstalled after the third layout. I hope this helps.

This game is unplayable:

The default tile set that comes up (called triangles) is impossibly busy to play with.

When you go into options you can select between a few sets, none of which are really attractive. I picked the 'traffic' one as at least having clearly distinctive icons. But then I couldn't find any way to get out of the options menu. No return button, escape didn't work. Finally I clicked on the exit, which closed the whole game. On restart, it did remember the tile set I'd chosen.

But when I started playing I found that the game would let you 'match' any two tiles! Regardless of their images! Until I got down to just a few, like 8 tiles, when it switched to not letting you click on any of the remaining tiles.

This game is utterly broken. People shouldn't waste their time downloading and installing it.

Sorry but will not be keeping this game. Installed just fine on my XP3 but it is a lesson in futility to play. Sometimes it seems to be playing just fine and then it will not let me pick the pairs that are obviously mates. Very confusing in the beginning to set up the play board and there is no help file. Also, I have the volume set to "NoVol". That stops the music but not the ambient sounds. Many thanks to the GGOTD team and to Stephen for the many games I have enjoyed. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

This software doesn't install on my computer. Their web site has absolutely no information on the product, the link that Stephen gave for a demo was a 30 second picture of a list of features that was too small to read. I like various mahjongg games and wanted to try it but the installation program sits there and does nothing on my Win 7 x64 system, even when I stop all other programs and try to install it in the directory the program suggests. There doesn't appear to be a demo version of the program. Maybe I'll try to install it on my x32 version of Windows.

I tried playing a couple of games on my dual monitor system and found that the setup is not intuitive, the timer starts immediately with no means of pausing it, the board ALWAYS appears on the rightmost screen with no means of adjusting its display size and I encounters a couple of instances where I had matching tiles available but was unable to select one of those tiles.

This game is just too old and too primitive. There are many better Mahjongg games out there (such as Hotel Mahjongg Deluxe).

I tried this game. To even get started on it, I had to set the properties flag to ignore high DPI scaling (I'm set at 150%). Even with that, it changes the size and shape of any window that's open at the time you play the game -- NOT fun.

Then I could figure out how to set the options and to select a game but I did not see how to actually play the level.

With multiple layouts available (especially with a layout editor), it would work better if there were a "sequential" or "random" option.

Also, it did not show what the tile sets that are built in look like!

I'm running on Windows 7 HP 64bit. Just too advanced for this game. I removed it with Revo Uninstaller Pro!

Note -- I did realize something in the process. If you're running on a high resolution screen with older and/or weaker eyes (like me) and use the high DPI setting, and then have to turn that off for a game -- you should remember to manually REMOVE the tag before removing the game. It will save one step in the Revo process. The only registry item it found was the High DPI setting.

Well, that was fun. I installed and ran it, and it paused for a moment while it "adjusted" my graphics, and from then on everything (including Windows) was inverted - upside down and back to front. Fortunately a reboot corrected this and I uninstalled the game, so I have no idea what it's like to play. This was on XP pro, maybe it works correctly in Win7 but I'm not trying it on mine

I have to admit my interest in mahjong faded years ago. Computer mahjong games have been around for decades now.

The biggest strength of this is game is that it allows the player to create tiles and board layouts. Although it's not the first to allow the creation of custom tiles. However, it doesn't appear to come with much in the way of custom tiles and is even missing the most classic layout.

The graphics on this game look very dated. The game looks like it was made a decade ago. The resolution should be higher.

The ability to edit and create tilesets and layouts is nice, but without more of a basic game it really serves little purpose. For instance, a Christmas tileset could be used with a pack of Christmas layouts.

The game installed at the third attempt after locking up twice. On running the game, it changed my primary monitor to 640x480 then opened on my secondary monitor in what looked to be a 640x480 window on the 1920x1080 res screen. This made the text too small for me to read. I *think* I finally figured out how to start a game by double clicking on choose board but the tiles were too small for me to differentiate between them. Time to uninstall, but... the uninstall failed to work, so I deleted the folder and removed the program name from windows uninstall. Rubbish.

Hello, and thank you for the great game-giveawayoftheday-Projekt.

I think the game has an error. Usually can you click on a tile and this will be selected. At some Time it happens that you click on a free tile and this thing will not selected. Therefore can this tiles don't be removed with another. Therefore it's not a funny game. Has anyone found the same Error? Sorry for my bad English, however i hope you can understanding my words.

Quan Yin Mahjongg:

quan yin mahjongg 1

Installation

Quan Yin Mahjongg downloads to a 13.3 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it 'will' be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the gamegiveaway sites are throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.

Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out. Also try right clicking on the oranage colored set up file and select Run as Administrator.

The game installs to the following path by default, but you can change the path during installation if you wish. If your computer is 32 bit it wil be installed to a similar path (minus the x86).

C:\Program Files (x86)\Quan Yin Mahjongg

The installed game is 7.3 MB in size. A shortcut is installed to the desktop, and to the Start menu programs group. yopu'll also find an uninstaller in that folder.

Works on Win 7 and Win 8. I haven't checked Vista or XP. It was created in 2006 so should work on XP.

Registration is automatically done when you install the game. You will require an active internet connection to complete activation.

The Game
Unfortunately I don't have time to review this game today. (At least not until later in the day). Depending on what time I get back home I'll decide whether it's worth writing up as brief piece. Sorry for the inconvinience to those that do read my reviews. All I can say at this poiut is there isn't much information about the game online and I wasn't able to download a demo (problems with my computer over the last few days, I need to format then reinstall windows).

The game was developed in 2006 by a Chinese developer. You can build your own laypouts and design your own tiles if you wish. There are two modes of play, puzzle mode and play against the clock.

You'll find details of all the bundles still available over in the first two pages of the Game discussion forums HERE (These are the best way to get bargains as you can often get $100 plus worth of games for around $5 or less. (e.g. last November/December THQ sold their entire recent catalogue worth almost $500 for less than $6) Check out the Bundle Stars deals for the best bundles around at the moment. There are at least 4 Bundle Stars packs still available, each with at least 9 or 10 games (all with Steam keys) for less than £4 for each bundle.

A Request for help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
