I've finished the main levels and I'm on to the optional levels.

I have still not found any bugs or problems.

This has been a really interesting game, as I said before. There are too many hidden object, time management and match 3 games out there.

This is something different that has been implemented very well.

Yes, maybe more story rewards would improve it.

But try to keep up the graphics quality when you do them.

I'm maybe 1/6 of the way through the game.

This is a really nice change from the usual shooters, hidden object games and match 3 games, of which there are way way too many.

It is really great to see a game that isn't the same old, same old.

Nice graphics.

I haven't found any bugs at all.

I suppose it could use an edge, but how? Maybe a sexier mermaid at the bottom. This sort of game, I think it is likely to attract mostly players over age 30. (I think the game is too complex for children under age 12. And I think age 12 to 30 are going to be playing console games.)

I don't see anything else to change to give it more of an edge.

I give it a thumbs up.

Second comment about this terrific game. I have noticed a lag on some levels but it seems to clear up after a few minutes.
In Episode 1, Level 12, the second message from the mermaid says if you clear all of the pearls, then you get the third star, meaning you have to leave one charged pearl until the last. I managed to do that and did not get 3 stars. I only had 2 pearls left, a charged one and a plain one so there was no mistake on the order the pearls were eliminated. Just a glitch that I'm sure can be fixed for future updates. Disappointing in the long run if this turns out to be the only one I cannot get. Still addicting!

downloaded both games this weekend. My virus protection threw both out yesterday.

Thank you for your feedback waitmin, as mentioned in my review, the security software included with the giveaway can casue your antimalware to react. The games were as clean as a whistle. no game giveaway has ever been infected (so far. Over 12 thousand community members installed this game with no reports of malware. Usually in these circumstances when you get a false positive you can either configure your AV software to allow the game to be installed (then you delete the secuity software) or turn off your AV software temporarily.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game and it is one of many I have gotten from this site and I have never had a problem. This morning at 0551 this game attempted to launch a Trojan. It was blocked and removed by Kapersky Antivirus as a Kazy Variant Trojan. I do not know any reason this program would need to launch itself EVER and it was specific to the gamemaker Legacy.

...........................Moderator comment..............................

Thank you for your feedback OW. There's no way this game was infected with any malware. It was throughly checked by the give away team usding several well known anti malware packages. Also over 12 thousand community members installed the game with only one complaint of malware. The liklyhopod of this game being responsible is very remote. If there was a trojan fdetected it's lilkely to have come from other software.

What a fantastic game! Totally addictive; I may not play another game for ages. Just a bit confused about how the stars are awarded at the end of each level. One level I seem to get through quickly and only get one or two stars but another seems to take a long time to get all the special pearls and I get 3. perhaps I will understand better the longer I play.
thank you for all the great games. I let my family know when you have a game I think they will like.

hi Whiterabbit,
I keep getting a NSIS Error,I've already been to sourceforge none of there info applies to my problem. It seems the installer file has been altered from its original form? I have a Win 7 pro x64 and this is the first time I've had a problem downloading a game in two years. I could use any help I could get Thanks

.........................................Moderator comment.......................................

I believe this is some sort of installer error. You should have read previous comments above as there were a few other community members having similar problems. Using a different file archiver to nzip the giveaway download might have sorted the problem. Sorry I didn't get back to you in time. Due to staying up very late, I over slept this morning. :(

Hi,

I thought there might be some further variation then just shooting the balls, so tried it. It downloaded fine and runs smoothly on Windows 8. I played a few levels easily. I prefer more variation in a game but its fine and will play. Great for those who enjoy this. Although I must have missed how to use the power up and will have to go back and check, when more time.
Thank you for another good game!!
Have a great week all!

Cool variation on the Match 3 game with physics. But for some reason seems familiar. Back when GGOTD actually gave away a game a day seems i recall such a game...Think it had some mascot called Aquatics(or something like that) and it had sea horses and clams and shells running around. For some reason I think it was made by Realore... Of course this game has better graphics and animations.....2006 versus 2013. They could skip the Hog intermissions..they just don't cut it but I love the rest of the game. The only other complaint is the stuff in the marbles/pearls are, at times, hard to see.

Thanks to Legacy Interactive for a really awesome game. GGOTD, congrats for a great gaming weekend..Thank you. And thanks Wabbit for your review.

P.S. I am the same way about flowers..If my hubby wants to.... he can give me a houseplant or something for the yard that will come back year after year.

...........................Moderator comment......................

Hi Delenn, Ah yes, I remember that one (atleast a visual impression, but can't remember the name at this time). I have bought lots of house plants pluis still have a couple (Yucca and Umbrella plants) from well over 30 years ago (purchased in the late 70's). I tend to buy orchids now a si love the way the flowers last for months. My wife has said I've not to buy any more as she thinks we have too many (I think off hand we have about 12 at the moment - I keep sneaking one in every few years - trying to get a nice spread of flower types) :)

downloaded the file twice and both times when I clicked on the folder to open it I got the following dialog:
Windows cannot open the folder. The compressed (zipped) folder c:\users\......\atlantispearlsofthedeep.zip is invalid.

Any ideas?

................................Moderator Comment........................

Someone else had a similar problem above. They downloaded 7 Zip (free) and unpacked the giveaways zip folder with that.. I've posted links to several file archivers including 7 Zip, J Zip and others over in the game discussion forums sticky as a FAQ's resource. It's probably just as easy to google 7 zip for the link.

I've had the same problem myself and used a different file archiver and it solved the problem. 7 Zip is one of the more popular ones.

Oops--I meant to say I have 500 GB of memory! I don't think Win 7 would even run on 500 MB! So, the game booster might not be as helpful?

............................Moderator Comment.........................

No it wouldn't.

I think you need a minimum of 1GB and then it would run like a snail. However 500GB of memory seems rather high. Usually computer motherboards have memory slots that hold RAM sticks of up to 8GB each. Usually there are four or six slots, which means a maximum of 32GB or 48GB are usual, not 500GB. Also you can add up to 14GB of gRAM if you had three graphic cards each with 4GB of gRAM. I've not seen any graphics cards with more than 4GB of gRAM yet.

It's possible that you may be running a lot of background programs (more likley if you download a lot of the giveaways from the main site), which can cause this problem.

Sorry to sound intellectually challenged, but I didn't find anything to help me on the FAQ list. Can you just tell me here what I should try? I would really love to play this game and have been waiting quite a long time for an answer to my problem. Thank you.

................................Moderator Comment...............................

It may be that you have something else open in the background, or a background program is causing a conflict which is interfering with the mouse cursor. Firstly try alt tab then click on the games icon that should be in the task bar to open up the game again. If that doesn't fix the problem, try (by trial and error) turning off background programs to see if it is a conflict. also check your event logs to see if any errors are recored there - turn the game on, then try moving the mouse cursor, then go check the event log.

Other solutions:

If you have a branded mouse for example a razer mouse or a microsoft mouse, reinstall the mouse drivers. If you don't have a disc with the drivers on, go to the appropriate web site and search for drivers for the model of mouse you have.

Depending how old your mouse is, it could be that the feet are worn and the sensor is too close to the mouse mat, or surface you use with the mouse.

Try lowering the mouse DPI and sampling rate. (Open control panel then click on the Mice icon).

Check out the following link. It may be totally useless, but it's worth a try if none of the above work

http://www.ehow.com/how_5522780_fix-computer-mouse-cursor-problems.html

Finally, post the problem in the giveaway of the day game discussion forums. At this time of the giveaway, few community members visit the page, wheras more members will see your request for help in the main forums. Hopefully someone will have a solution for you.

p.s.

I'm the only moderator who bothers to answer any questions on the game giveaway comments section. I volunteered about 5 years ago because no one else ever bothered to answer queries from the moderators and the comments section was becoming virtually unused. I try to answer questions as soon as possible, but at the moment I'm really busy with a new home, decorating and getting ready for a house move within the next several weeks, so can't be around all the time. Becasue of opiate drugs that i have to take, I tend to sleep part way through the day, sometimes for several hours and usually at this time in the morning (after 3am) I'm asleep.

Try rebooting your modem/router. If you continue to have p[robelms it may be your provider that's at fault. If it is complain that you lost out on some software (they may compensate you).

When I saw that today's game was yet another match three, I made the usual mouse gesture over to the delete button. Bejeweled was, and I suppose still is, a great game, but its 12 years old now and we've seen just about every iteration of the genre there is to be had. Its so old and tired I haven't played one a match three in about six years aside from the occasion bout of Zuma. But before I actually got around to hitting the delete key I saw in the corner of my eye the words "physics based" and had to stop. I love physics simulators. I agree that most of them don't really make for great games, but it just my thing. So I figured I had to at least give it spin. Was it worth the time? Most definitely yes!

One thing that makes the match three genre such a tired one is that manipulating the board is very predictable. You know how everything will fall. Once you figure out the algorithms of how to make 5 in a rows and T shapes, every game truly is the same as the last one. But this is where the physics simulation truly makes Atlantis a new game. When you make a match, the remaining marbles don't fall straight down. If you shoot a marble at a curved edge, you get a different bounce pattern. Marbles may not land where you shoot them if you don't account for the bounce correctly. Marbles can fall off the play screen. What other match three game does that?? Dropping a ball into of the gears can have a different outcome depending on the momentum of the gear. In some cases, you may even have to drop a marble on a gear to set it up in the right direction. This is a not a match three game where you can rely on patterns you already know. Hardcore puzzle solvers (like me) thrive on games that force you to change and adapt. I'm only 25 levels into the game, and Atlantis has delivered a feeling of dynamic change in spades.

Now to be fair, I don't really know if this is unique. As I said above, match three games instantly fall off of my radar. I think I played a physics based popper game a few years ago, but its barely recallable. But there is something about this game that feels like its been done right, with a lot of care, and everything was well thought out. That said, there are still some cons to the game.

First, many levels have options methods that allow you to simply shoot balls off to the side, allowing you to throw away colors you can't use. In a Zuma style game, this is good thing, but for Atlantis, you can often set yourself up to win a level needing a specific color and just shoot marbles off until you get what you need. Nice for a casual game, but it also reduces the challenge of having to adapt with what you've been given.

Second, the match three levels are interspersed with an occasional hidden object level. I realize that casual games that mix genres are becoming popular because you get a mix of mechanics that breaks some of the monotony. However, the problem here is that the physics based nature of the marble levels requires a level of intellectual challenge that a hidden object game simply doesn't live up to. Its like interrupting a game of pinochle with a round of crazy eights.

Finally, I haven't found the iconography on the special marbles to be very intuitive. One level had orbs that acted as wildcards, but texture used on the marble looked similar to a texture of another marble and I made some choices I probably would not have made if I knew what I was shooting next. The aesthetics are beautiful, but maybe only about 90% functional.

Otherwise though, a really great game that I am glad to add to my collection. I can easily see myself purchasing this game again if I ever lose my free copy.

P.S. Bug report: I was playing level four when another application popped up and told me I just received an email. I switched over to my browser to read the mail. When I came back to Atlantis, the program had marked the level complete with three stars even though I had abandoned the level in the middle of gameplay. I haven't tried to reproduce it and its really not a big deal to go back and replay the level. But I did think it was an odd behavior for a game.

I installed just fine and opened game on my Windows 8 computer. The cursor will only move around the middle and left side of the opening graphic. I cannot get it to go to play, options, or quit. I've run into this before and don't know how to fix it. I usually end up just uninstalling my game. Can anyone help me?

Wow, great game. Love match-3 and physics puzzles, never thought they would go together so well. I also found that this game is free on mobile and works great on my Android phone. It's the usual kind of "free" where you're encouraged to make purchases to progress, but I won't mind throwing a couple bucks at it to play this on the go. Great job, all!

Agree - two super cool games in two days - thank you so much.

I also downloaded this game booster but don't really understand how it works - but it's already late in Switzerland and I will have a look at it next weekend.

.........................Moderator comment......................

Hi Anu, the booster is already configured to turn off system background programs. You just have to click the lage button to turn it on. I'd certainly read the help documentation to get the most out of the program. It's an excellent tool, especially if your RAM is low or you have a lot of background programs running. If however you have plenty of RAM say anything over 6GB then Gamne booster isn't really needed.

Installed it fine with Windows 7. Once I start it, the first few screens are fine, but once I hit "play" my screen starts flashing. I tried properties> compatibility mode> disable display scaling on high DPI settings to no avail. I also changed compatibility to Windows 7, which didn't work. Both seemed to help, though, as I could only get to the very first screen before I tried either. Now I can get to the third screen. Any ideas?

.........................Moderator comment......................

Thank you for your feedback. See if it plays better in windowed mode. Also try updating your graphics card. It could be a resolution problem, so try changing your screen res' temporarily to see if that fixes the problem.

Love love love this game! It was hard to tear myself away long enough to come over here and comment.

For what it's worth, I disagree with the suggestion about the animated gears. It adds a level of complexity that I have to make them start moving BEFORE I can do what I want to do!

I had no problems with installation. I am experiencing lag time too (I have Win 7, 64 bit, 500 gb memory) and I am finding the lag time to be fairly distracting, especially in a game that requires more precision than your usual pop 3. I might try it with the Razer Game Booster, as suggested above, but am not quite sure it is worth it. I found the links to the walkthrough and the videos extremely helpful & would have wanted more instructions & help included in a purchased game. I did not find moving through the game levels very intuitive--I tend to play these sorts of games when I am tired and don't want to think too hard, so I'd be more inclined to play if it were a little bit more intuitive. I could have used more direction in how to use the boosters, since this is such a non-traditional match 3 game. I also agree with other people who would like an "adult" mode, which could skip the story line and the hidden object/star snipping portion if desired. Because of the lag time, although minute, I had difficulty snipping the stars. Also, I am of the age where my eyes do not focus close up that well, and so I found matching the objects in the bubbles a bit difficult to differentiate at times, and would have liked more contrast in those particular graphics. Although this is sounding like a negative review--it is not--I am just trying to give specific feedback to the developers of this game, & maybe point out some things they might not have thought of. I think this game is very high caliber for its type. The graphics are just beautiful. I absolutely LOVE the use of physics in the game. The variations between each game/level, with the the use of levers, gears, etc., are remarkably creative and present some unusually fun challenges not always present in this type of game.

Whiterabbit--I think it was incredibly sweet of you to try and fill her room with flowers and suspect you were doing your best for a young fellow trying to show support for his wife's accomplishment at the university. Some guys wouldn't have done anything. Being a bit more practical myself, I think it very gentlemanly of you to be so respectful of her feedback, and it speaks to the good nature of your character. I am not much of a flowers person myself, but after 25 years in a relationship, it is probably okay to give flowers as an "I thought of you today and of how lucky I am" type of gesture. Maybe include a date for a bike ride on the card... Anyway, what sweet, rich memories you have. Thanks for sharing!

.........................Moderator comment......................

Thank you for your feedback and the extra bit at the end. My wife had worked very hard and managed to get a first class joint honors degree. I was very proud of her. She's always been the sensible one in the relationship and has steered me from near ruin (was in massive debt when I met her) to being relatively comfortable.

With only 500MB of memory I would advise you download the Game Booster I've mentione dpreviously. I think i've posted a link to download it from the razer site. You'll otherwise find a link in the FAQ's found in the Game discussion forums (I'vew definitely linked to that in my review at comment #1. Game Booster can increase RAM availabilty by around 40% and would go some way to improving the running of this game. Hope this helps.

Does not work on my xp system. When I click on the game all I get is a quick flash. Uninstalled the game restarted my computer and redownloaded with the same results. Ive never had trouble with any other game from this site.

.........................Moderator comment......................

This is a relatively new game, so you may need to update your graphics drivers. Check which cards you have (probably an Nvidia or an ATI/ASUS card) via dxdiag then go to the appropriate developers web site and click on the driver link. You usually have to give the model number of the card or chip as well as the operating system. from thjere you'll get a download link. Graphics driver downloads are typically around 200MB in size.

You can get those two from www.myplaycity.com, a site that Stephen has mentioned in his reviews. When you install a game from there, it wants to hijack you browser(s). What I do is install the game in a sandbox and when I'm done playing, I delete the content of the sandbox. I use 'Sandboxie', but others may have their favourite sandbox program that they can recommend.

A nice twist on an old favorite, though the physics aspect of it can be frustrating at times. I haven't noticed how to tell what level I'm playing *while* I'm playing it. If I have to leave the game, when I come back I'm offered multiple levels and I'm not sure how to pick up the game where I left off. Am I missing something, or is it a fault of the game?

I would prefer the Zen mode. Not sure if I will ever get there, but the game is intriguing enough to make me try... at least for a while.

Thank you for this one. It's much better than the offerings of the past few weeks.

But when i want to run it by clicking the pearl.exe; get the message:
pearl.exe has countered a problem and needs to close.
Re-downloaded 3 times, same thing happens. Any suggestions?
Yersterdays' game no problem at all.

greetings, Annemari

I am entranced by this game. I thought that it was a timed game which usually equals lots of pressure, which quite frankly is not my favourite thing.
I was so pleasantly surprised, the time DID end but I could still play on one of the harder levels, and then of course, one could/can replay the level to achieve a higher score if that is important to one.
I realise that one can unlock an untimed area later on, but thought I would mention this pleasing discovery!
I can see why it received awards; it is so beautifully put together; everything from the graphics to the game play to the music, (normally, I turn the music off but this time found myself really relaxing to it..)
Thanks very much, GGOTD and Legacy games!

P.S. Re the "romantic thing" - you could buy your wife a book of beautiful flower portraits, or a single framed painting / print, flowers she could keep always. Or how about a porcelain statuette including flowers? There are loads around, of different types, ages and prices.

Then, on every birthday and special day, she could admire her flowers while eating chocolates.

Just a thought . . . from another flower-and-chocolate lover!

good idea, though she won't let me have any more books as there's no shelf space left. (I do sneak them in still though. :-)

Hello Stephen
I'm not clever enough to understand exactly what you mean. When I download the game (save to desktop) and the winzip icon appears, I right-click on it and choose "Extract to here", which brings the Setup icon up, which I then left click andit takes me through the installation process. I do this with every game I get from GGOTD, and am 99.99% successful. I don't know how to get this one though. My computer man says I must not do anything to my drivers - because I don't know what I am doing, a friend tells me I should use Windows to open the zip file but I don't know how to do that. It looks like I can't have this game .. boo hoo

Hello Mo, when you right click you should get choices as to where to unzip; choose to unzip to the desktop. Once this is done go to your desktop and click on the orange set up file. If you still continue to get this problem follow the link I've posted below the conclusion in my review that takes you to the FAQ's page over in the game discussion forums. there are several fixes that you could try such as going into compatibility mode and changing some of the parameters.

If you are still unsure, post here again and i'll try and explain further.(

Oh, yes! This one has that little extra spark of originality that sets it out from the herd! It does remind me a little of a game called "Jar of Marbles", but these pearls are more controllable, more definite in their ambitions and make a much nicer sound.

While I do enjoy playing Match-3 now and again, they can get a bit same-y, but Atlantis and its Pearls has a few interesting new twists. The power-ups (which I haven't thoroughly investigated yet) look intriguing, and the story is a bit new too.

One slight annoyance is that when the hidden objects (seashells in the main, so far) start bubbling up to the top, they are too small and fast to be easily grabbed by a laptop user, but once you realise what's happening you may be able to run a bit faster to get them. The ones which are static on the screen are easier to snaffle if you can see them - everything was a bit dark here, so there was some guesswork involved!

It's definitely worth persevering with, though, so my touchpad fingers are in training as we speak. Graphics are very good, if a little dark at times for older eyes, and even the music was pleasant.

Thanks to all concerned - this is a good'un! ;-D

Installed fine (Win7) and just played through the quick first level to make sure it was running. First impression is this will be a game I enjoy very much. I think I will lose a significant portion of my day. :)

I do wish you could input names for the users instead of needing to remember which color you are.

This game installed and worked fine on my Window 7 machine. I was a little cautious and worried after seeing it was listed by the same people as make Murder She Wrote 2. That game refuses to play on my computer because I use a High DPI setting (150%). Even saying to ignore High DPI scaling didn't work.

This game works fine in both full screen and windowed. I was intrigued to note that the windowed mode is "widescreen". That is unusual but with almost (if not all) monitors now widescreen, I guess it will be more common.

It works fine. It's not as easy to do as it looks. Getting around or use some of the obstructions puts it in a similar vein as the Wheemplay games but you're not shooting, you're dropping. You have to gauge where to place your ball when you drop.

It's a keeper!

I find WR's reviews and the video links very helpful in evaluating the games being offered, and then can be selective in choosing what to download. I was tempted by yesterday's game, but decided not as I thought I might only play a few times. However, today's game looks like a real keeper, maybe because I guess I've never encountered bubble poppers. Funny how my husband complains I spend too much time playing computer games but always asks if I want the GGOTD offering. I absolutely love the graphics and mechanics, and what girl doesn't like pearls? I do like match-3, but most of the physics games I've seen have not interested me, but this is definitely an exception. Thank you GGOTD and Stephen, and keep up the great work!!
Cara

Winner, got a winner again. Double winner weekend first in looong time. Win 8 x64 Pro. Fine music, options, screen size, smooth play. Clever game design! Real keeper. Do note that the Exit from in game Menu dumps to desktop not back to start screen as is usual method.
Nice graphix. Fun w/ this one and thanks for pointing out limits on its sequel Mermaids game. Pretty bogus to go money route. Thanks GOTD. Fast d/l too! Hey WR spent some time in very south of Portugal in Faro.

:D

One of the things I remember about my cycling vacation was the dead animals left by the road side in both spain and Portugal (but not in France). Cycling past these often made us feel nauseous due to the aweful smell and often half rotten corpse (sorry for the imagery folks). You never or very rarely see this in the UK

Thx GGOTD, Playrix, and Legacygames! two days in a row of great games. Yesterday's game was good but didn't last long enough I had it completed in a few hours. (or less) I love games that take me weeks to complete. lol and with great replayability.

A solution for the person who downloaded the game and was unable to make it work, (well it's too late now) but if it happens to you again, try right clicking, selecting properties, and selecting the compatibility tab, and then checking the box next to the statement "disable display scaling on high DPI settings". that will make the game work. At least it did for me. It may still work for you if the game was activated after you downloaded and tried running it. unless you deleted it.

Thanks again for another great game. Now can you spare some time to play? I suggest you take the week off given the fine job you've done this weekend. As for the romantic thing, I'm the same way. I'd rather a bookmark with a clever saying that someone spent time picking out for me, knowing it suited me than flowers, or a tree planted in my name to help the planet. A cup of coffee and a chat, or a single flower and a walk in the rain even than wasting money on gobs of flowers. I don't have a romantic bone in my body. Best date I ever had was a trip to a huge bookstore, unlimited time to browse while he sat and read his own book. That was a gift from the heart and his offer to purchase anything I wanted (I of course knew within reason), made it sweeter.

I am so disappointed. I have tried to install this twice but get this message: The exception Illegal Instruction. An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction. (0xc)))))1d) occurred in the application 0x004ac485. Click on OK to terminate the program. Click on CANCEL to debug the program. Nothing I do works, such a shame, I really wanted this game. XP SP3.

Hi Mo,

Have you unpacked the zip file, or are you trying to instal directly from the zip file? It's possible one of your drivers need updating. There are driver verifiers that you can download for free that will check asll of your drivers to make sure they are okay.

If you are getting the message after trying to install directly from the zip file, first unpack it. Use a different archiver if necessary. (I've listed several in the FAQ's section.

Runs fine on XP, though there is sometimes a lag, which could be from crappy ATI card. Cute game. Might try it on Win 7.

@Tania from South Africa - I had a similar problem a few weeks ago from a game here - would not self-extract. I used the excellent free program 7-Zip to extract the files. I think if you go to their site, 7-zip.org, you will find a mirror to dl in South Africa.

The game plays smoothly with excellent response on Win7 Pro 64bit with predictable response in terms of physics. I have just finished the first portion of the game and it held my interest so far. For an "adult" player, the hidden object portion of the game is boring and tedious. This sort of mindless searching may have been fun when reading Highlites magazine in the dentist's office when I was seven or eight, but not any more. An option that would allow play without requiring the matching games with compensated scoring in the rest of the game would be nice. And, no, I am not a fan of matching games at all, so this just might be me. The pop-up hints at the beginning of each level (so far) interrupt game play. it would be nice if they were in a smaller caption, off to the side, and did not stall the game. They could be recalled by the user by clicking the mermaid or such. I could say much the same about the story line slideshows interspersed throughout. Again, an option checkbox for "Adult Play" would be nice on the options screen. Of course, this comment is not just about this game but could be very generally made about a large percentage of games. I am at a sufficiently-advanced age that I enjoy gaming (still a huge Tetris fan), but have no interest in reading the story of how a wicked entity is involved and why I need to save the queen.
