Magic sweets is a very good game.
Downloaded and installed successfully.
Game is fast in loading and playing.
No issues at all.
I would say, this is for children of Age group: 5 - 15.
Of course, adults with interest in playing time management games can enjoy it too. I did!

I really enjoy time management games, but this one left me wanting.

I wish there were a larger variety of characters. Seeing the same people saying the same phrases made the game feel even more repetitive than TM games usually are. Having twenty levels per area did not help the repetitive feeling either; I would have preferred 10 longer levels.

Dino moved kind of slow and I tended to not rely on him for help and it was annoying when he kept eating things I was preparing and not giving to him. I guess if you don't teach him anything, he'd be less of a nuisance.

I was constantly fumbling with glasses in the beverage area; why does it take so long for empty glasses to appear?

I was earning way more money in the first puzzle area (the star) than in any of the other levels. I was grinding in there for a while to earn money for upgrades before moving on.

I felt that the spells just added an unnecessary layer of complexity on top of all the garnishes, shapes and flavors.

The game does have nice graphics though, but I would rather have better gameplay.

I haven't downloaded TM games in a long time but when I saw the screenshots for this game I decided to give it a go.

The graphics are fabulous! I enjoy the little dinosaur (Dino) and I agree with the commenter that while I'm trying to add garnishes Dino eats the food/drink I'm working on and I don't realize it's gone until I'm clicking the customer and I get those messages.

I'm playing on Normal level and the first few levels are easy but it does get difficult - if you're trying to earn a cup each time which I am (as a self-challenge). I have repeated some levels quite often that I gather a bunch of cash which I use to improve my equipment (don't buy new food unless required - it's just another thing to have to make!) Instead buy the upgrades to make the drinks dispense faster, the burners to cook quicker (someone commented about having to wait for it to get done, all TM games I've played you had to wait for something!)

I would also like to see the customers patience level but so far none of them have left as they do in other TM games, I'm thinking perhaps they don't but instead give you a lower amount of cash.

Thank you Vasilek Games and GGofD!

#34 Anna: I see your comments posted at #29. Which one was deleted?

As for your issue, it is related to your side of the network and/or your computer. This should probably be taken to the forums, but I'll repeat what I've mentioned in the past 2 weekends. If the download finished a lot faster than expected, your downloaded file is not 152mb, and/or the zip file is empty/gives error when uncompressing, it is likely that your download did NOT finish. Use a download agent software for its resume function and try again.

Again, if so many people are able to download, install, and enjoy the games, you are blaming the wrong place for your issues.

I am not a fan of TM games, but my daughter is. She convinced me to download this for her and it was easily done. I went to the C:/ drive, located the game in the Games folder, and made a shortcut to the desktop for her. I did have to change the screen resolution for the game, but that was a minor problem & easily dealt with. It installed very easily and once I made the shortcut, my daughter was able to open and play the game to her heart's content. The graphics are great, the game is more than the usual repetitive, do the same thing, over and over, type of game. It changes up and the various levels allow for harder and harder play for the more experienced TM player. You can play in relaxed mode, normal mode and experienced. My daughter tried out all three modes, with me as a viewer. The play was fun and the game was good for those that enjoy the genre. It is worth the $7.00 requested. Some people have made comments about the size of the download. It may be that the graphics and many different levels of play account for the larger size. Thanks GGAOTD for the game. My daughter will enjoy this for some time to come, as she plays the different levels, while enjoying the freedom to play in the different modes. This is one of the few TM games that are worth playing that I have run across. I hope we see more of this type of TM game showing up. I might actually begin playing them with my daughter if they stay at this level of graphics and game play. Thanks. Pheesao

I was pleasantly surprised to see this game had true widescreen support. I usually have to go into my graphics settings and select 'keep aspect ratio' since most casual games don't seem to support widescreen or have an in-game option to at least prevent stretching by adding black bars to the sides. Definitely a plus right there.

The game has nice graphics, although some things feel a little flat compared the more 3D styling of the characters. It has a charming atmosphere to it nonetheless. The animations and voice clips from the characters make the game feel more alive, as they continue to fidget and speak while waiting to be served. It might be a little distracting to some people, but I certainly enjoyed it.

I'll admit I have a bit of a hard time rating gameplay for casual games as I haven't played a large number of them. With other casual games, I'm able to get gold/expert/etc ratings on my first play of a lot of levels. I was only able to get a few gold cups near the beginning, so I'd say this game is pretty challenging for its genre. It seems very fast paced from the start, and I had a little bit of a hard time keeping things in order. Thankfully, the game would pop up text telling me if I'd forgotten to add something to the order (cherries, a rainbow, etc).

The minigames are very, very easy at the beginning (I'll assume they get harder later on, but I haven't played long enough to know). The only thing I had some difficulty with was the falling fruit minigame. Controlling the dragon was somewhat uncomfortable, but perhaps I'm just too used to using arrow keys/WASD to control similar movements in other games.

The opening cutscene seemed hurried. For example, the main character doesn't seem to really react to the dragon falling from nowhere. Even in a fantasy setting, it seemed like the event was just tacked on to explain why the main character has a dragon in the game. That's not much of a complaint really. In my opinion, gameplay is far more important than the story.

All said, this game feels pretty average to me. Its gameplay is solid and would be a worthwhile purchase for fans of the genre, but there isn't really anything about the game that sticks out to me.

Thanks GGAOTD and Vasilek Games!

No comments have been deleted today. comments are rarely deleted, and, when someone has a problem downloading one of the game giveaways I try to find a solution to the problem. There was quite a break between moderation when I fell asleep at the keyboard {having been up since Friday morning and not having slept for over 40 hours}. You must have been in the process of posting your misquided complaint when I was moderating your post. I went to bed immediately on finishing the moderating. You obviously have problem at your end as I've already pointed out from your first post. (15000 community members can't be wrong) and I find it rather sad that you should come back in such an aggressive manner.

I enjoy time management games, and this one has the bonus of beautiful graphics. The quality of the graphics is far beyond what one would expect in a cake shop type of time management game. I like the mini games, which breaks up the repetitiveness, and I find the pace enjoyable. A time management game is never going to please those who want to be doing something else, but for those of us who like them, this is a keeper.

Thanks. Not a TM fan but ok install Win 7 Ulimate x64. Nice set of options, plain & simple. Easy folder involved to delete with no traces hanging on. Game's got a fine look for what it is & relax mode is a plus for beyond the fan gang. Mouse driven.
Just not a genre that appeals to me. More 'work' than play. From responses I gather a lot of players want a break from routine not a routine like TM concept offers. Maybe enough already of this style and more of Adventure, RPG or action-adventure before sheer boredom sets in here. Do appreciate the board of course, just there's only so far TM can go in holding interest if not into it.
Play 9/10 if a fan. Design 9/10 for a freebie. Overall big plus.

Lovely games and graphics! It works perfectly on my XP service Pack 3 Home Edition. Perhaps the problems commented upon being unable to load the game depends on the size of the screen or resolution being either too small or too big. My resolution is 1024x768 pixels and I have a small flat screen. It also works on my daughter's PC (bigger screen, greater resolution and better graphics card).
By the way, I love Time Management games though I generally prefer Farm frenzy types of games though.

The game is cute and easy at least for the first level. I have installed for my daughter mostly. She loves it. (She is 12)
It may not be recommended for older computers with low resources. In mine which is not that recent (about 4 years or so) I had o such problem (unlike AVG for instant).

Small drawback:
I dislike the fact that the download was so big, it took quite a while to download it as the signal was so poor today!
______________
Thanks a lot for this game! Keep them coming!

Thanks I did that and got a Nvidia update which scared me because then I lost all of my icon but it turned out that I can no longer have my setting at 1600 8 900 as the left side is so far over it is off the screen. Weird. Anyway I again tried the game and still get the frequency out of range msg and still moved it down to the lowest setting and still same msg. Any further suggestions? I really would like to fix this problem so I can try this game out and a few others.

This is about the fifth game in a row that will not install. Usually, the zip file is empty or invalid, but today, I click on the unzipped icon and nothing happens. It's as if I haven't done anything.

I loved the site and the ability to try out games. I even bought some following trying out a designer/game type here, but if you guys REPEATEDLY can't offer it in a way that it downloads properly, you're wasting my time.

...........................Moderator Comment............................

I've had no problems downloading and installing, then activating any games from this project on three or four of my computers (I install to different platforms for testing purposes). On average between 10 to 18 thousand other community members also have had no problems. You may see the odd person posting with similar problems, but these only account for a very tiny and insignificant portion of the community (and I mean that statistically speaking). The problems you are repeatedly having have to be something that's wrong with your computer, whether it be the installation or your internet connection. At this point I cannot offer any sound advice (it's after 5am and I've not been to bed yet since Friday morning). Sorry for the negativity. It just seems that you are blaming the giveaway site rather than it possibly being your own fault. There are ways of checking your connectivity to the internet, but I can't remember how. I suggest you post a request for help in the forums. You're more likely to get a positive response there. As for your computer, try rebooting the router and/or modem, clear out your internet cache and Temp folders and make sure your firewall isn't blocking the download.

The game installed fine for me, although it would be nice if it actually mentioned that it was installed rather than the installation setup just disappearing.

The game itself.. I have rather mixed opinions about this. The graphics are pretty nice, but the gameplay gets boring easily because each step (cooking the pastry, pouring the water, etc.) takes way too long. Most of the time, I'm waiting for the appliances to hurry up and finish what I'm telling them to do.

That said, the mini games are interesting.. although that's also a bit slow to respond.

All in all, it has potential, but I'm not sure I'd want to play it again even though it's free. Definitely wouldn't buy it though.

Thanks for the suggestion I just tried various setting for the resolutions going all the way down to 800*600 and still get the frequency out of range error. Like I said before I have gotten this on various different games and this is the only computer I have ever seen this error on in all my years with computers.

Try updating your computers graphics drivers and display drivers. Use dxdiag to find out what your graphics card model is by typing dxdiag into the run command (XP) or in the search field in Vista and Win 7. That will open up the Direct X diagnostics panel. Open the display tab and look to the Device section on the left-hand side. You should see the name and manufacturer of your computers card or the chip if it's an onboard graphics chip. It's likely to be either NVIDIA or ATI. Go to the developers home page and you'll find a link to the drivers section. :)

Just wanted to say thank you to GGotD and the game developers for another good Time Management offering, I prefer my console for action games and, as an earlier commenter mentioned, there are far too many hidden object games around at the moment in proportion to other genres in the casual games market so its great we have had a few TM offerings lately (Kings Smith, Samurai Last Exam to name a couple), keep up the good work GGotD ;o)

No problem dl or installing. I have played about 10 levels of the game. Won the cup on the first level and haven't seen it since! The graphics are great. The mini-games I've played so far have been easy. I presume that they will get more difficult later. TM games are not my favorite type of games, but I do play them and this one makes the cut. The Samurai Last Exam from last week didn't but when I tried to write my review, I would type a few letters or words and then my browser would close. I tried several times and it did it everytime. Weird.
Thanks GGAotD and Vasilek Games for this game.

OK game if your computer is fast enough. The high res textures and FMVs contributed to the large file size and brought my system to a crawl. Didn't waste too much time on fixing it since I'm not particularly fond of TM games.

#2 Elric: Try forcing the game to go into windowed mode via properties, or see here: http://bigfishgames.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/537

Magic Sweets installer is a self-extracting WinRAR file that extracts the game's files where you choose -- as Whiterabbit posted, the default [if you don't choose to put it somewhere else] is C:\Games. Once you run Magic Sweets a folder's added under User App/application Data for saved games etc. Checking/monitoring install in a win7 XP Mode VM [Virtual Machine], I was surprised that the game didn't appear to start at all -- most games won't run in the VM, but I do usually get a black window showing up briefly & often some sort of error message, but Magic Sweets very rapidly & silently fails. If anyone else experiences the same sort of thing, where running the game doesn't appear to do anything, check for that saved game folder [look for/search Vasilek Games], & if it's there, I think Magic Sweets ran but failed, likely due to graphics hardware requirements.

Other than that I talked my wife into trying it, & being a huge TM game fan she *really* likes it. [I'm not complaining & do understand you're not writing your usual full review, Whiterabbit, but I really did have to talk her into trying Magic Sweets without it. ;-) ]

...............................Moderator Comment............................

Thanks for your feedback. It wasn't just that I don't like TM games. Usually I would still write a review. However, I was under the impression until very late last night that we were getting a different game, which looks like being given away another week now. I'd spent quite a few hours working on that game when I discovered that we were getting todays game. I was just too tired to write a full review. There's quite a lot of effort involved with screen captures and playing the game properly to get a feel for the game. I'd have had to stay up all night to get a full review done, (which I've done at times),but wasn't in the mood to stay up all night last night. :)

It has a lot of nice graphics and characters are fun. The author is imaginative judging from the design of the game. Great job all the way around.

Few weeks ago we got the game "Samurai Last Exam" from GGAotD. I installed it but didn't have any time yet to have a look at it. I had no idea (yet).

Today I downloaded "Magic Sweets" and had a try with it (#7). The occasion was there to try "Samurai Last Exam" a little later as well.

These games are much about the same, preparing food in variations and delivery within time limits (there are other kind of TM-games) earninig money (points) and buy accessoires to let the game evolve.

I like the idea thought TM is stressing after some time, but today in "Magic Sweets" I like the graphics much more. "Samurai Last Exam" however is only 33 MB. I wonder if the graphics make this difference?

I don't need so many levels in this type of game (personal opinion).

I also like the kind of food you have to prepare in "Magic Sweets" much more than in "Samurai Last Exam". In the latter the composition of the food is hard to remember because, to me, being not realy much Japanese, the food is too exotic and strange. I did have some cake with chocalate topping and a cherry once, which causes more logical and understandable compositions, with easier names and ingredients.

Is it allowed to compare giveaway games, making this half on topic and half off topic?

I downloaded this although I haven't really liked much in the genre before. I find this one pretty enjoyable though. It's challenging even on the normal difficulty, where I can usually pass a level on the first attempt, but need to replay several times to gain the "cup".

The first few levels were very simple and nearly put me off the game, but as soon as you start mixing it up with spells and more mundane decorations the challenge and enjoyment starts.

The minigames for training Dino to help you with decorations and for unlocking new spells are not to my taste, but I can bear with it as they take little time, and I'm sure some people like the variation it gives. Note that I've only unlocked one spell though, so perhaps the puzzles for each of those varies.

I must echo ALF and say thanks for this nice surprise. For those who enjoy the genre, it will certainly be a very good option for your 7 dollars.

I have one small complaint though, as twice when I've been trying to add a cherry/lemon on a drink, I've missed slightly and Dino ate it instead. This was a bit confusing as I then tried to click several times to get it on the customer tray only to notice that it's gone and I need to create a new one. Perhaps there could be a more characteristic sound when Dino eats something, so you get more of a clue that it's happening.

I tried to download and install this game three times, to two different folder locations. After going through the unzip wizard, it says, "This program might not have installed properly, what do you want to do? Close, or check for an online solution and close?" So I check for an online solution and there is none given. I go ahead and to the the installation folder and try to run it, then it says "magic sweets has stopped working, check for an online solution and close the program or close the program." I have windows 7 on a 6 months old computer. I have not normally had problems installing programs before. Any suggestions?

First thing I thought is that this would probably be a very childish game (only because of the screenshots; just don't judge only because of the looks). I'm glad however I did download and try it. The graphics are nice, bright and colourful and very pleasing to look at.

The game however is much harder then I thought it would be. I do agree with WhiteRabbit that TM-games are really not relaxing. I can't do this for more then half an hour because I get a little stressed, but when you try in a compatitive mood to outgame your little nephews it really has a nice ring to it (they win :) ).

Again it starts in fullscreen where I would like it to start windowed or have a choice how to start, but that is something that will return every time again.

No problems, downloading, installing, starting the game.
For a game however (many people will not agree, but it is just the way I think) 152 MB is much (I mean it's only a game; I know there are much larger games though; it depends on how important it is to you I guess). I do have enough space to store it, no problem.

I know for sure my nephews will have a lot of fun with it when they visit. Thanks GGAotD and Vasilek Games for this nice surprise.

I tried downloading and installing Magic Sweets several times but still cannot get it to even show up on my computer. I'm so disgusted, I really wanted to try this game.

Hi Linda, why are you disgusted?

Is the zip file downloading onto your computer? If so are you watching where the game installs to? There is no shortcut installed, which is why you may not be able to find the game. If you check my post @ comment #1 you'll see where the game is installed to. You can then create a shortcut if you want one.

When I saw the Big Fish Games brand on the first screen shot I had to do some checking. Yup it's there. Since I also enjoy TM games I am going to try this out. The last couple flash games were two minute wonders, then removed. This seems to install and work fine so far. If there are any problems with the game BFG has a very extensive forums section, and they are running a special right now if you buy two games you get an email coupon for a free on in June, and you don't have to belong to the club to get it...

I used the Big Fish Demo to check the game out last night. I'd actually been workung on another game that I though was going to be given away today, but that's for next week; by the time I'd found out I wasn't in the mood to write up another full review; especially one from a genre I don't particularily enjoy playing. Big Fish isn't bad if you like Hidden Object games. The majotity of their daily releases compsie of Hidden Object games, which is the reason I cancelled my subscription. :)

I downloaded a trial of this on gamehouse and one thing I have a problem with in this game is not knowing the customer's patience levels. Maybe there is a way, but I am certainly not seeing it. If it wasn't for that I would have purchased it.

Thank you for the free game. Maybe I will play it one day.

Downloaded and installed with no problem. I wanted to try this as I do like TM games. Unfortuneately this is one of those that when I try and run it I get a black screen with a blue box that says "frequency out of Range" I have had this happen or various other games such as the granny series. I did a google search to see why this is and what I can do about it but never really found an answer. I have even posted the question in various forums but never got an answer. That is too bad as I really wanted to try this gane out.

This sort of error message usually points to a screen resolution problem. The resolution you have your screen set you may not be supported by the game. Or it could be the refesh rate that is the problem. Try setting your screen res' temporarily to a different setting and see if it cures the problem. If it does please post the resolution that was causing the problem. Hopefully the developer will see this and do something about it. :)

Installation:

The game downloads to a 153Mb zip file that unpacks to a dual activation and set up module together with a read me document. The game installs to C:\Games\MagicSweets_1.3 by default but can be changed during the installation wizard if you wish. There is no shortcut installed to either the desktop or Start Menu/Programs folder. The game plays on my Win XP Pro 32 bit, Vista Home Premium 64 bit and Win 7 Pro and Ultimate 64 bit platforms.

Introduction:

I won’t be reviewing today’s game. I really don’t like Time Management (TM) games so wouldn’t do this game justice. I have posted links to a couple of videos, one of which shows tips and tricks as well as some user reviews and a full game review. I played the game for a short while to see what it was like and can say that it’s colourful and you get all of the elements you’d expect from a TM game such as a tutorial to start you off, various levels of attainment up to a gold cup, (awarded dependant on the time it took to accomplish the aims of the level). There were also mini games and awards for attaining specific goals. The following introduction was taken from the developers site.

Conquer the Magic Academy’s inhabitants using exquisite meals spiced with superb spells. Magical and tasty time management game.

A friendly tiny baby dragon falling from the sky brings good luck! I feel like this happened just yesterday. I walked across a long stone bridge towards the Magic Academy. I didn’t know at that time what they do there. I didn’t even know that such an academy existed. It was probably crazy to respond to such an ad: “The Magic Academy wants to recruit a pastry cook”. Suddenly I heard weird noises, like something was falling from above. I looked up and saw a small green creature diving straight for me. I held out my arms and caught him. It was a tiny baby dragon. He was flapping his wings hopelessly without being able to take off. I hugged him. “Don’t be afraid, little one. I won’t leave you.” I named him Dino, and from that moment on he became my loyal ally and sidekick. At first the work wasn’t very difficult: I had to bake pastries and serve drinks. But over time everything changed. I found an ancient spell book in my room. I don’t think it ended up there by chance. I tried to open it, without success. I had to overcome many obstacles to learn what was written in the book. However, that event changed my life and showed me the path to a new world… the Magic Academy’s world.

Conclusion:

This is a colorful, game with all the elements you’d expect from a Time Management ™ game. I won’t score this for the reason I gave above, however I think it will be a worthwhile download for those who enjoy playing TM games. The inclusion of a relaxed mode does help to lessen the stress of playing these TM games, but for me that wasn't enough. The game looks like it’s been well constructed. The user reviews generally said it was a slow starter, but it got interesting as they progressed through the levels.

If you want more TM games go to MyPlayCity and Gametop for several games in this genre:
