Ghost in the sheet

Downloaded and installed just fine (windows XP)
cute atmosphere
cute concept
the somewhat droll british humor is great for engancing the atmosphere.

There were a lot of comments about not being able to download and install the game. I had no issues. It may have been just due to periods of high internet traffic.

Thanks for the giveaway! I've played it a couple of times throughout the week. My 4 yr old caught me playing it that first day and has asked to play it every day since. Ugh. It's a bit too complicated for him to understand but I think he likes the graphics.
I couldn't get through anything but the first 2 levels without help but I like it anyway.
Thanks GGOTD!

Hi fellow gamers,

I am creator of this game and so I'd like to thank you for kind words (those who had them :)). I have a couple of hints for you as it seems that the manual wasn't packed(?). I haven't known about this version so I had no control over installer or packaging. But anyway:

1, the game is extremely sensitive to gfx drivers. Update them or the game will crash. This is especially true for nVidia cards, which are totally backwards incompatible. So go to the driver site of your video cards and update update update! The same goes to the sound drivers, where the issue is less hard.

2, there're shortcuts for skills through function keys. So F1 is the first skill from the top. It's said in tutorial, but you might skipped through it too fast. :)

Anyway, if you have any questions or comments, drop by our site and leave some feedback at our forums.

Best,
Jan

78<< There's a walkthrough available if you google it. Alternatively, realize there are actually two wires.

Just finished the game with a tad bit of help (the secret compartment was a little too secret). Good game, good length. My two criticisms would be that your option choices don't save. I had to change the music volume each time I loaded the game. Also, some of the phrasing choices in dialog seemed odd. I suspect the dialog writers do not have English as their first language.

I can't believe I missed out on this one. It looks very interesting, and it's only 7bux, not like a bunch of games that I wouldn't want for free offering themselves for 20 dollars.

I might be a bit late for my comment and it will probably go unread but just in case... I justed wanted to say that I agree with the comments made by those who are stuck (not by choice) with dial-up. Something should be done to give us a chance to get those heavy downloads too. This is my second weekend downloading for hours and hours and then some at app. 36.0 to 44.0 Kbps (if I'm really lucky) and when it's time to install...well it's too late. Needless to say how sad that was. I really really wanted this game :( Hopefully there will be a solution for us in the near future. If not, well I guess it's tough luck for us. Thanks and best regards.

I downloaded this game twice, and everytime I click on the 'Activate' icon in either of the downloaded and unzipped files, I get a Runtime Error that says "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." I don't have any trouble with the other Giveaways that I downloaded.

It's pretty sad to go through the time of, not just once, but twice downloading this large file only to get stopped from installing the thing because the activation does not work!!!

So far, very enjoyable humor and graphics, and so far, easy enough to figure out. If you remember point and click dos games then finding the installation directory and creating a shortcut to the desktop is just another blast from the past and no biggie. I grabbed this specifically for this reason: "No dying, mazes, slider puzzles, or timed sequences that can needlessly frustrate". I don't know how many games i never finished because of that nonsense, even when i resorted to a walkthru. Nice to know one is available though ;p

ONE little annoyance, I found that I had to manually change the pointer icon from look to action by moving the mouse up to the top of the screen, clicking on the action icon, and then move it back down again to the object to interact with, then back up again to change the action again, and so on, that is a bit unwieldy, a right click to change directives would be appreciated, but if that's the worst I can say about the game then it's still a keeper. Thanks for this today, although I feel a teeny bit bad not paying the teeny bit of money the developer wants for it, let's see, a pack of cigarettes or this game, hmmm! A donation awaits..

Well, I made it as far as the cable car and got stuck. Cute game though. For those of you with location issues it's really quite simple. My Computer>C>Games>GhostInTheSheet. Then right click the gits icon and "send to" desktop. Instant shortcut! You can put it where you like. I put all of mine in the Windows Start Menu Games folder. As usual I had a good time reading through the comments and the game IS mildly amusing. Not my style but, a keeper for me. Thanks team GOTD!

Note to previous comment - esc gets you past the conversation with the boss - clicking on the screen gets you past the opening credits.

Downloaded and installed fine on XP SP2. I always install my games to my external HD so finding it wasn't a problem. Took a whole 3 1/2 minutes to download the zip - not long compared to others but certainly longer than I am used to :)

I didn't go very far but saved my game (or THOUGHT I did). Imagine my annoyance when I tried to reload and it wasn't there. Now I will have to sit through that long intro/tutorial again! At least clicking on the screen will get you past the cutesy little cardboard box thing in the beginning as well as the conversation with the 'boss'. I do wish you could either window or minimize the screen - I'd like to refer to the walkthrough (thanks Staphen!). Looks like I will have to print it instead.

I did chuckle at the exe file name of gits. Of course it stands for Ghost in the Sheet but having recently had a reread of the Harry Potter books I saw the British insult 'git' - an idiotic person.

Looks like a fun little game, but I will certainly be using parts of the walkthrough if it sneaks past my frustration level.

Thanks GGAOTD for something a little different than the usual fare.

Thank you Merscom and GGAOTD for offering a 'new' game today ... this was a welcomed surprise - thank you so much for the Valentine's gift. The dsl download took about 25 minutes on Windows XP, and another 10 minutes to unzip and to create the desktop shortcut. The game play was a bit slow in the beginning, but now seems like a game that I am going to enjoy playing. Thank you so much Stephen - WR for the detailed review and for also listing a 'walk-thru' link - just in case I need some help. Thank you.

One of my favorite genres of games, so very pleased to see it. I'm just starting playing, but everything seems fine so far. Yes, intro is a bit annoying...I prefer the option to pass over those sorts of things. One of the Carol Reed series also had an intro similar to the one on this one. Point-and-click are pretty easy to figure out how to play so don't really need tutorials.

Don't understand all the install issues and annoyances others are having with finding the game. If you pay attention to where it drops (or redirect it) you'll have no issue. Is opening a folder and creating a shortcut so terribly hard?

You just caught me before I turn in. Thanks butch.

Have you tried the key words I suggest above. The title of the game has no spaces in it when it's installed, so try ghostinthesheet first. When I installed it I happened to notice that it was trying to install to C:/games, but that's only because on my recently fixed computer my games do go to my C: drive (though windows is installed to D). I think it may also have been installed to where the last Merscom game was installed. Merscom games have a habit of following the last installed games pathway. So check inside your Ball 7 folder. Also try searching for gits

Hi D … ‘of course’; such an obvious thing…. I blame the meds. My doctor has steadily increased the strength of the patches I’m using. Though memory did come in smaller ‘denominations pre millennium. I had several sticks that could be combined to make almost any figure. And as you say RAM is usually in multiples of 128Mb , though even that is no longer sold. However, 32MB sticks used to be sold….. I do think some people still run some of those old systems.

As for the accent thing, I think it’s meant to sound like Sh**, lol ….. Part of the black humor. It actually had me laughing out loud, but my wife wasn’t amused.

Got "unable to connect" also. I checked firewall and nothing was set to block it. On a hunch turned off firewall and it connected. Turned on firewall and completed install. However game has no sound. Checked options etc. still no sound. Everything else on computer has sound okay. Will try uninstall reinstall.

Luckily this game runs at Vista, but not for me ;(

I can launch it, but it stays in fullscreen for about one or two seconds - then it minimizes itself to the taskbar.

Hardware: HP 2730p Laptop

The motherboard of my stationary PC with XP is broken down, so I can't install it there atm

Did anyone else notice that if you say the tile with a bit of an accent, it sounds like "Ghost in the sh*t"? LOL!

OT: Man, 211 MB is a lot. It's gonna take about an hour till I get it. I'm just going to go to sleep and install it when I wake up ...

BTW, Whiterabbit, #22 is probably referring to the 32-bits version of Windows XP, not the RAM (doubt they even make Rams that small - it's usually a power of 2 (128, 256, 512, ...)); as opposed to the 64-bits version.

Great game! I had downloaded the demo 3 months ago (and never got around to playing it). I needed to know if I wanted to buy it using a BFG game credit, but here it is - FREE! Thank you Merscom and Game GAOTD! These kind of games, like an escape game, are always enjoyable and repeat game play is possible after leaving it for awhile, after you have forgotten how to finish them.

BTW, the suggested price of $6.99 is ONLY the Big Fish Games 12 month Game Club price. The full retail is $19.99, so get it now while it is Free!

Well... That was... A waste of time.
First it took about half an hour to download, which is about 20 minutes longer than it took to get the largest game giveaway I've downloaded this far.
Then, when I tried to install the activator starts up and eats up all my free memory and makes my hard drives read and write like crazy for 15 minutes before the installer started.
My computer may not be able to run Crysis at highest quality, but it sure is able to run other games that where extreme two or three years ago, so it shouldn't take that long...
And through those 15 long minutes I thought it might be worth it. I was wrong.

Hi all! Whiterabbit, you are a legend mate. I went to Alawar to try and get C.O.S. as I had it before , but lost it when my PC decided to eat it's own motherboard, so, like spacepixie, I was disappointed to find Treasure Moles! Never mind, but I hope that C.O.S is indeed a free game soon, either here on the Alawar gamebox. I loved playing C.O.S. Open Range too, but my budget won't stretch to buying games at the moment - had to buy a new PC, and 'cos I got one, the kids had to have one too!
Thanks for all the work you do on here mate and I hope that your health is good too. (I look for your comments etc as soon as I land on the GGOTD page so I know that you've had probs.)
Wow! that's an essay by my humble standards, sorry!
Happy gaming people!,

Suru - Regarding the uninstall, several months ago on these comments one of the user helpfully suggested a freeware program to unintall ALL elements of installed programs and I've been using it ever since. REVOUNINSTALLER. A typical windows uninstall will frequently leave fragments of the program (sometimes intentially) in your registry. This free program uninstalls everything. Also, it identifies your installs (such as this game) so you don't lose it's install location. I just bought a new laptop and this is one of the first programs I downloaded to protect my new computer in keeping track of my installs and making the uninstalls easy and thorough. You might try it... http://www.revouninstaller.com/

I will give this one a try. Most Merscom games are not installations, they are unzip. That makes it easy to get rid of games if you don't like them. Just delete it. This game is listed at a cost of 6.99. Thank you GGAOTD team. Everyone loves the free stuff but a 6.99 give away?
