Farm Frenzy :
In Brief :
This is the first time Farm Frenzy has been given away here at the gamegiveawayoftheday and is one of the rare time management games I actually like. I beta tested this for Alawar several years ago and was impressed with it's ease of play and simple graphics; never feeling like I was out of time as this was one of the first TM games that intrioduced gold, silver and bronze times.
Due to it's popularity Alawar have since released over 10 titles in the Farm Frenzy series (Farm Frenzy 1 to 4, FF: Madagascar, FF: Gone fishing, FF: Viking Heroes, FF: Ancient Rome, FF: Ice Age, FF: Russian Roulette and FF: Pizza Party. I stopped buying them (apart from the first two which I got for free for beta testing after the fours (Pizza Party, as they were all basically the same game re-skinned.
Farm Frenzy has over 45 levels of action-heavy management as you learn how to run a farm. From tending cows in the fields to gathering eggs for sale at the market to upgrading your structures and equipment to protecting your livestock from obtrusive predators such as bears, Farm Frenzy trys to simulate “real farming” without the attendant aromas. And, while you have just five animals to look after, nine products to sell and six buildings to purchase, it’s more involved than it sounds.
You can play Farm Frenzy online for free HERE, also You can get Farm Frenzy 1,2 and 3 as well as Farm Frenzy: Pizza Party free 24/7 from both Jenkat games and MyPlayCity. Please remember to uncheck any checkboxes when installing from any free game site. I recommend getting them from the former, thpough make sure you decline all of the extra’s and uncheck the tick box for accepting the Yahoo home page. I’m only linking to Farm Frenzy via Jenkat Games and MyPlayCity; the rest are easy enough to find.
Installation:
The Farm Frenzy zip file when downloaded is 25.8 MB in size. It unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may cause some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.
The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their business, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are thoroughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.
Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.
To register and install the game, click on the orange colored icon. The installed game requires approx 17 MB of disk space and installs to the following path:
C:\Games\FarmFrenzy_game
Shortcuts are not installed to either the desktop or the start menu programs list, nor is there an uninstaller. To uninstall the program you just have to delete the installed folder located by default via the path above.
(If the install path shows the last game giveaway installed you need to clear your internet cache) you'll also find a shortcut in the Start Menu for an uninstaller.
The game works in both XP Pro, Vista Home Premium and Win 7 Ultimate and Pro. (not got a home edition). The installed game is 18.7 MB in size.
Introduction :
Reference accessed HERE Dec 8th 2013
The Game:
Part arcade game part management simulation, Farm Frenzy combines elements from games like Alice Greenfingers and Cake Mania to create a fast-paced and entertaining foray into farm administration. It lets you slip into a pair of coveralls and play "Old MacDonald" with a bit of a business twist. The result is some egg-ceptional down-on-the-farm goodness.
In its singular mode of play, Farm Frenzy serves up over 45 levels of action-heavy management as you learn how to run a farm. From tending cows in the fields to gathering eggs for sale at the market to upgrading your structures and equipment to protecting your livestock from obtrusive predators, Farm Frenzy simulates "real farming" without the attendant aromas. And, while you have just five animals to look after, nine products to sell and six buildings to purchase, it's more involved than it sounds.
Basics of gameplay are simple. Clicking on the ground makes grass grow. Animals then eat the grass and produce goods such as eggs, wool and milk. These goods are gathered in your storehouse and sent to town for sale or processed to create other goods. Simple, right? Well, not entirely.
It wouldn't be a game without obstacles to success. As in the real world, everything has a price. To grow grass you need water and to produce goods you need animals, and each come at a cost. You also need to build and upgrade structures to grow, process and transport your goods. These include wells, cars, storehouses, egg solids plants, bakeries and spinneries. Goods sold increase your funds, allowing you to purchase more animals, as well as build and upgrade structures. Yes, it's capitalism, but it's fun, too.
Oh, yes. Bears make regular appearances, too. Their goal is to thin out your collection of ducks, sheep and cows. Cage them quickly to protect your investment or you'll "bearly" be able to make ends meet.
Initial levels are easy to play and complete, but as you advance the challenges increase. Each level requires specific upgrades, purchased from the Shop, so be sure you know what you need before making your selection. Funds are limited and you may need to replay a level or two to earn sufficient monies to buy the upgrades necessary.
To complete a level in Farm Frenzy, specific tasks must be accomplished. A set number of eggs must be collected or a certain number of bakery goods produced. As you advance, the challenge increases and the number of goals along with it. For example, you might need to purchase five ducks, collect 20 eggs and spin four spools of wool. Or, you may simply need to produce three baked goods. While this singular goal sounds easy, to end up with the bakery items you need, it's necessary to grow grass, buy ducks, collect eggs, sell them to raise cash to buy more ducks to collect more eggs and repeat the above. Then, you have to build an egg solids plant and a bakery to create the solids needed to bake into finish products.
Of course, you'll need to upgrade your facilities, too, so you can warehouse more goods and improve the performance of your production facilities, as well as buy a truck that can haul more goods to market. Oh, and it pays to acquire cats to collect goods for you and dogs to keep those bears at bay.
If it sounds too complex or daunting a task, don't worry. The game eases you into the more difficult aspects of farming. And, it rewards you, too. Awards are given for accomplishments such as collecting 500 goods, filling all shelves in the storehouse, catching 100 bears and banking $1,000,000.
Farm Frenzy is very family-friendly, although, it's a bit too complex for younger children. Graphics, generally, are cute and well illustrated, and audio adds nicely to the environment. It's also easy to learn and enjoyable to play for those who appreciate fast-paced action. However, it does lack somewhat with regard to play instructions. More effort should have been spent on providing greater detail on the intricacies of play. Action, as well, becomes a touch too frantic on occasion.
Nonetheless, Farm Frenzy is a ducky game filled with sheep thrills. It eggs you on to greater challenges, yet doesn't pull the wool over your eyes. If you can bear with its failings, you'll be playing it 'til the cows come home.

Really enjoyable game and not so easy to complete the levels within the gold/silver times. Nice you can go ahead regardless of times.
A few things that would add to the play.
1) A bit more play info for reference. Like a help screen showing how much items cost and can sell for. Also more info in the store showing what you gain by purchasing items or upgrades.
2) Provide info on how much space items need in your storehouse. And allow for an option to toss some.
3) Show what level you are playing while in play and after completing a level. Since you can go back and play levels it's hard to know which one you are playing or just played.
4) A delayed start on the clock until you make the first move. Being time management it is nice to have time to plan "how" to play before the clock starts.

I don't recommend this game for laptops/notebooks if you're using the mouse they come with as it's impossible (well, at least for me) to "capture" the bears. I gave up on it and uninstalled the game. It might work OK with a regular USB mouse. The problem was that the cage kept disappearing before I could do anything with it.

@ rabbit - I’ve just checked the number of downloads and was very surprised to find less than 4500 downloads - you said it was never released on gotd - but Maybe you were off that weekend - most of got it last times it was offered on gotd! Good game! (Wonder if he believes me??)

Hi Wot, :)
I've been here since the beginning of the project. Even when I was on vacation I was checking what was being given away (sad I know). I was very familiar with this game as I was on the beta testing team that tested it. Also I made a search of the game giveaway archives. This game hadn't been given away before.
That said; even when games have been given away multiple times, for example last weeks Atlantis game had previously been given away four times, yet it still had nearly 7 thousand downloads.
It's all academic now. I expect it wasn't as popular as I'd thought it would be..

I've just checked the number of downloads and was very surprised to find less than 4500 downloads with only 4 hours to go. Usually this type of game gets in the region of 10 thousand. wonder whether it was because there wasn't a game yesterday, so some haven't looked today?

I've had FF2 and FF3 for ages, but somehow never got around to FF1. Thanks for this.
For the person who commented "I NEED really loooooooong time limits!" - there are no time limits as such, but there are times to beat to get a silver or gold medal for each level. You can play as long as you like and your best times will be recorded, and you can replay each level as often as you like.

The only strange thing about this game - and other recent games, too - is that there is no cursor in full-screen mode on Win 8.1. Once I go into the options menu and change to "custom cursor", the cursor appears, but this game doesn't have custom cursors and therefore I can't play it in full-screen mode.
I suspect it's a config problem with my machine, but in case others are experiencing the same problem...

I'm running Win 8.1 and have no no such issues. :?:

Downloaded/installed/activated with no problem on my Win7x64 machine. Excellent as always from Alawar games. Them and Playrix are developers you can count on for beautiful, playable games. This one is no exception. Kinda reminds me of Aztec Tribe a bit but not enough to make the game repetitive. Beautiful graphics, balanced gameplay...... another winner from Alawar! The "help/instructions" could be a little better, but even with that "failing" this is a keeper. (besides.... how hard can it be to figure this one out? ;))
As an aside, I too have NEVER been able to/allowed to post ANYTHING in the suggestion box.Even after jumping through all the many many hoops asked of me. I just don't even try anymore.

Hi Avid Gamer, Funky Farm was a different game altogether. I remember enjoying that one. They also gave us a similar one around the same time (can't believe it was six years ago) which I think was called Tropical Farm. Thanks for the feedback. :)

I can not be absolutely sure since the computer I was using years ago is not hooked up right now, but I think this was a Game Giveaway of the Day years ago, maybe 2006? It was what got me interested in Alawar Games as well as GAOTD. Regardless, it is a great game, as are all of the Farm Frenzy games. Anyone who does not have it, should try it. High possibility to be hooked on it!
Thanks Alawar and Game GAOTD!

Hi Mahal, this game has never been given away before. It was released around the time the giveaway project started, Alawar did donate games to the project back then, but most of the games were older (apart from one of the breakouts that had only been released several weeks prior to the giveaway, way back in 2007.

Why are we NEVER EVER NEVER able to post anything in the "Share Your Ideas" box? What EXACTLY is it there for?
I finished "Alice's Magical Mahjong" this week! Whooh Hoo to me! I am da wo(MAN)! I AM da wo(MAN)!!
I have never liked time management or sims games. NEVER ever! I remember getting the original Sim City way way back on the wayback machine and not liking it. The same was true with Zoo Tycoon and Roller Coaster Tycoon. Always seemed like too much work for too lil payoff to me!
But I like cute lil animals A LOT! And those are CUTE lil cows and chickens and pussy cats up there in your screen shots!
Do you cross your heart and hope to die PROMISE that the time limits aren't too short in this game? I NEED really loooooooong time limits!
Oh, I'll try it. If I don't like it, I can always throw it in the recycle bin, shred it to pieces, and delete it off the face of my laptop forever and ever!

The Share your idea's box does work. You have to post a short title, then an explanation in the second window. also it helps if you sign into your forum account via the share your idea box. I found typing in the numbers tedious and sopmetimes the numbers weren't accepted. Once you've signed into your forum account via the share your idea's sign in, you don't have to repeat the process for any other ideas.
I,e,
1) .... click on Leave feedback
2) .... Type in a short or to the point title
3) ..... Click on Add my feedback
4) ..... Add more information about the idea you suggested, for example, I've posted add mini games as the main title, then fleshed it out by suggesting various mini game idea's.
5) ..... Sign into the Idea Informer by using your Giveaway forum log in details or by typing in the numbers and a name
It may take several hours or more for the moderator who deals with the Idea Informer, to allow your comment through. Unfortunately I have no access to the Idea Informer.

A good diversion. Having already gotten ff2 from another site I'm glad to see the original here. One of the very few tm games without the clock kicking you in the posterior :-) . Thanks GGOTD & ALAWAR for an enjoyable game. BTW-Hey alawar, how about adding an option in your games to import your own music(provided it's in the correct format of course)? IMHO it would add 20% value to the games in replayability alone.

Thanks for the feedback bobby. I agree re: the music. Most games do allow you to change the music. Pity this one doesn't.

Love this game! One of the first TM games I was able to complete. Took me a while in the upper levels but enjoyed it. Love the music and the graphics; the little ducks are too cute. There are sound and visual hints when the bears are going to appear and arrows will point to the well when you need to refill. We have all the later versions of FF and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys TM games.
