Play as a hero who can shoot webs and swing on them.

Play the role of Brian Spencer, a former intelligence agent, against a complex enemy created by an artificial intelligence.

You play the role of a former intelligence agent, specializing in computer security. When a chain of events sets off worldwide, leaving critical service disabled, you assume the role a computer hacker to find out what happened and attempt to stop it. When a stock market, a central bank, satellite uplink and transoceanic fiber optics links crash, you know this is more then a simple event. Something big is behind all this, and you have to figure out what is it.

You hack into computers, look for exploits and information, steal money to buy hardware upgrades in an attempt to put all the pieces of a big puzzle, together. Set in a virtual operating system environment, the game is packed with all the features required to bring the hacker feeling and experience to every gamer.

The concept behind Hacker Evolution is to create a game that challenges the gamer’s intelligence, attention and focus, creating a captivating mind game. Solve puzzles, examine code and bits of information, to help you achieve your objectives.

I got bored with this game part-way through the tutorial, I couldn't be bothered with all the typing of 'BASIC' computer commands. It should be called "A Reminder Course in Using BASIC". I would not buy it, TG it was free.

Downloaded ‘Hacker Evolution’ (five hours ago), and ‘Moyea FLV Editor’ (30 min. ago), but couldn’t activate any of it! just getting message: “Activation module failed to connect…please try again”.
I was waiting for ‘Hacker Evolution’, but missed it anyway!
Is there any chance to get it again before next X’mas?
I hope I won’t miss ‘Moyea FLV…’ as well.
Don’t understand, connection is good enough for download, but not for activation???

I wish some type of virtual game could be offered again soon...Something like Virtual Farm ...or maybe a Sim game...I tried some of the simulation games from the Freeware library...didn't work out too well..lol...oh well...I can be patient...but maybe I gave you guys a hint?.....:)

#25....Thanks for your advice.....Anyways, I don't know anything about this game, and as I am reading more of the comments left here, I think that this is NOT the type of game that would be appropriate for him (for his age, but for me, it is fine..lol)....Someone said they wanted to learn to "hack"...SO now I just went and read the "concept" of the game(didn't read it entirely this morning, didn't have enough time too, but doesn't matter..I hadn't downloaded it yet)....and it seems fine until I get to the part about stealing money.....That's what you get for not reading something entirely, and that is why I posted the question in the first place....The first thing I do when I get on my comp in the morning....is go to Giveaway of the Day...and I LOVE the week-ends when the games are on....Yesterday I downloaded the game for him...Aqua Words.....He likes that one. As far as him on the comp..He has to earn his time on it, and I supervise him.....I have all sorts of Parental Control software on it too...I can't wait for next weekend...and hopefully there is at least one game for the kiddies....It would be great if they could post something telling what age group it would be good for...or a parental advisory or something....I use to download every day...and try out EVERY single giveaway software..and every game...I have uninstalled so many times on my computer...So now, I am reading the comments and asking questions...It is a lot easier than going through all the trouble....Thank-You to all of you who leave the comments...It really helps others out....Hope everyone has a Happy New YEAR!!!!

Have you checked if the code was entered properly, Alex (#42)? I mean, try copying and paste but check that there are no blank spaces before/after. Are your firewall blocking activation process? Another hint: are you a Vista user, or trying to activate from within a limited user account? If so, try right clicking on the Hacker...-Play shortcut then go to "Properties". Under "Compatibility", check “Run this program in compatibility for” and choose in the drop down menu “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Then check “Run as administrator”. Then close, start the game - when asked for activation code, insert it. Go for it - you'll be not disppointed with the game!

Alex, have you actually entered the activation code we are given???

If not you'll find it in the readme file. I've sort of changed my mind about this game following Sky Frontiers posts and am going to spend some time trying it out. I think I've been spoiled by too many amazing graphics orientated games such as Crysis, Call odf Duty 4 & 5, Far Cry 2 and loads more, so was put off by the text only aspect of this game. I'm keeping this and am going to see how it plays out so that if we get the game again I'll be able to write an informed review.

Thanks to the game giveaway team for providing the game and to the guys who developed Hacker Evolution.

To the developer:

Is there any way of getting this and last weeks games to combine so that when you click on Mods it shows up all the games???? What if I place all the files from last weeks Hacker Evo untold into this weeks. would it be picked up, or would it just trash the game? Thanks in advance. you could answer the query over in the forums where I posted the short review this morning.

Well, #36 Smoke_W, taking what #26 Intenex told us, I've managed to find a (little) solution for you:
with don't you play with COLORS.TXT a little bit and find what happens? You'll find them inside ...\Hacker Evolution\he-skins\reinsertion game directory. Actually there are 3 subfolders to look for, and they are responsive for the game's skin:
reinsertion
terminal
terminal-he
BACKUP THEM FIRST. Then, pick up COLORS.TXT from inside the default skin folder, TERMINAL.
Take the original values for the line
171 128 15 // Targetmap and status texts color and set them to
171 223 1 // Targetmap and status texts color, THE VALUES TAKEN FROM THAT HE: UNTOLD YOU TOLD WORKED FINE FOR YOUR MONITOR. Play a little bit copying from Untold/changing the other values to match your liking and needs, but be careful - and DO NOT simply copy COLORS.TXT from Untold to this version - they are DIFFERENT, Untold has more parameters.
Remember to adjust other values for the rest of the skins, if you change then.
Hope this really helps, these are great-although-short games.
-why not an endless version/expansion/mod PocketPC version-like, mr. Muresan...?

Wow Cad, LOL CC was a while ago. I also went and looked it up on Wiki to see if they had it in their repertoire. ...LOL and they do!!!
The Wiki entry actually says other programmers use it like Mine Sweeper. (as a cheat!) I remember it was a teleport but did not know other programmers used it a an easter egg! Thanks for the trip back down memory lane! Here is a great site for hidden Easter Eggs.
http://www.eeggs.com/
For those who may not know, Easter eggs are hidden things on programs and also in DVD movies, Music (extra songs) TV.... (for instance the BBC TV show Red Dwarf's DVD's all have Easter eggs. Most show a director Commentary but also other stuff.)
Thanks Cad for that!

downloaded fine on my system:

I am on a 1.58GHz AMD Sempron 2300+ with 1Gb RAM, video is Sapphire RADEON 9600 Atlantis and OS is WinXP Pro Sp2

activated also. i cannot actually play because my substitute monitor is trying to die. i regularly use Magic Lens to adjust the machine's gamma level to 3.5. Unfortunately, these games don't hand Magic Lens well while playing. auto-deactivation unless in Windowed mode, and i cannot read Hacker Evolution's options menu (too small a font in to dark a color against a dark bkgd... i was able to manipulate HE:Untold, font was green and menu items were highlighted. but the Lens had trouble with the screen size and.....
i love these games, and can hardly wait until i get my spiffy old monitor back (long story).

A bit off-topic but I bet community will approve the idea:
-FUTURE GIVEAWAYS MUST HAVE A LIMITATION ON CURRENT THUMBS UP/DOWN VOTING SYSTEM!

Quoting a PARTNER/DEVELOPER,

"#20
...
After we have shared (Hacker Evolution) Untold with you, with thought about doing a re-run on this one, based on it’s original 92% thumbs-up and popular demand :)
..."
Well, I RESPOND BY THE "POPULAR DEMAND", once asked here and there, and there also (just to quote some I was able to track down) for its re-run, I confess my guilty. lol
Back to the off-topic, let's just think about the amount of people who simply push the button just because of it, even without having actually DOWNLOADED it previously - which at least shows some INTEREST on their side. Now take into account the heavy whiners around that WILL SIMPLY THUMBS DOWN JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIKE AN ICON, AN INTERFACE, A FUNCTION OR ABSCENSE OF A FUNCTION, and put that at the side of never seeing a Blindwrite rerun around OR WORSE: NOT HAVING A SINGLE RUN OF KASPERSKY, ULTRAEDIT/COMPARE, ROBOFORM among others another site recently gave away to their audience. I see their comments there and believe me, people - even the WHINERS in here are far more qualified than that - and I am -NOT- disqualifying them, I'm just saying that we deserve the best!
So I think it's time to rethink a procedure or two and take it to the next step - for the sake of the project itself.
...why not expecting having an Acronis/Symantec (which I personally dislike)/Stardock/Adobe product in here? Or access to entire game catalogs from RealOre/Reflexive/WildTangent/Alawar? OR EVEN ENTIRE 3PLANESOFT/AstroGemini SCREENSAVERS COLLECTION? lol - well, there are some real good ones there, and for the sake of variety, why not?
We're near 2009. Think on that as a new year's Giveaway resolution, GaD Team and community.
...and once again, NICE YEAR ALL!
By the way, THANK YOU, mr. Howard from ShellLess Explorer! It's always a pleasure to help people who care for each other - both ways, developers supporting community and vice-versa!

Talking about text adventures, I used to play a lot of Tunnels and Trolls text adventures. I've still got the rule book somewhere in my loft, though the dice I used for the physical game were lost many years ago. There were several of us who used to swap the booklets once we'd finished them. The first computer text adventure I ever played was called Island of Artuaan on an Enstein 84. Though once games with graphics started to be released I was esily tempted away from text only.

Was able to d/l, install and active game on Vista Ultimate with no problems. However, the game runs agonizingly slow. It's like watching paint dry. Is that something to do with my system, or inherent to the game?

Looks different. I'll give it a go. Rayven #10, I did not think anyone here remembered the OLD text adventures. Takes me back to the preinternet days of dial in Bulletin Boards. Whoops, I am dating myself LOL Yes folks, there was a time after the industrial Revolution when there was no Internet. Us old fogy's had to use Steam driven and hand cranked computers. To be honest I remember when comcast was only a text message news, message system where we used to get our news reports for the radio station I worked at during college. Not to mention DOS programs and games. LOL...For those that don't know what I mean about bulletin Boards were then, a person had to dial into another persons computer to "get connected". Sort of like the movie War Games with Matthew Broderick. It is really amazing how far we have come and really cool to think of where we will be in say about 10-20 years. Hell, I am only 39.
Respects to all and have a happy New Year.

Well, it seems to be the end of the "non-awaiting moderation issue".
So this will be my last (REAL! lol) attempt to post some cheats to this game, posted by previous comments in earlier releases.
BUT THIS TIME I'LL DO IT DIFFERENT! haha
May be the content, may be the formatting, I don't know, but for the people this may be useful, here it goes:

infection0 , comment 183, teaches us how to get some money and kill some trace.

Space, comment 192, shows a useful table among other interesting considerations on trace increasing percents, being the first info later included in the *NEW* release of HE, UNTOLD - I can't remember seeing the BOUNCEHELP command in the first release of it, but may be a mislead of mine.
In a case or another, here it goes a format-fixed version:

PWCs-Bncs=Bits-Seconds
===================
04------0-------128---12
08------1-------256---24
12------2-------384---36
16------3-------512---48
Where PWCs = Password Characters, Bncs = Bounces.

(made using COMMENT PREVIEW feature from main GaD site! ^^)

Angelo, comment 194, provides a way to directly edit the ammount of available money.

Jens, comment 195, tells a about a very fortunate way to obtain some money at cost of game score. It's a game feature, in fact, discovered by chance.

Belgian Dude, complaining, pardon, COMMENT 197, talks among other usual, commom complaining -excusez mois!- OBSERVATIONS that it's possible to give a hint by just digging into game's folder. Worth the reading, as always.

No offense, Front 242-comPATRIOT! By the way, I can't resist to put F242's "The Untold" as a game menu theme for Hacker Evolution: UNTOLD. There MUST be a connection, huh, Mr. Muresan...?
And for a closing hint, Paul, comment 207, remember us the importance of exploration and some reading. That's key in a text-based game, for the careless ones.
I really wanted to point hyperlinks to each comment, but seems to be impossible. At least I made it with the table! lol
Hope this really helps any Hacker Evolution fan/curious out there. It's a game to be enjoyed in many ways, I believe, as pointed in my previous post to Mama24kiddies. Mine will be immersed as soon as he arrives to holidays - once again.

Hahaha. Funny. I remember getting this game through questionable means, playing a few chapters through fairly, then deciding to hack the game itself and give myself quite a fair bit of money in order to get through the game - of course, at that point, the game quickly becomes uninteresting.

Greatest irony of all - the game itself is as minimally protected from cheating as imaginable.

Whew... at least posting seems to be normal after all.
To #18, Mama24kiddies: I'd like to share the idea that kids must be exposed to such content, even because of its moral choices and the reasons are a ) they'll do it UNDER your supervision, right? So you can guide then (not POINT then, which is different!) thru the moral choices available IN THE LIFE as in the game, and I believe that's our, parents, mainly task; b ) they'll be facing an unusual universe, WORDS, and they'll do it within a black/green/orange screen perimeter and they CAN find it so delightful as a full color game, IF we parents teach them to SEARCH FOR THE BEAUTY that resides in our minds - "it's in the mind, not in the eye", as a fav band sings - before searching for it outside of us; c ) WE COULD ALSO LEARN ON OUR OWN CHOSEN METHODS TO TEACH THEM as we observe their reactions to both this "new approach" to education AND the results that come by doing this and best one of them is the STRENGHTENING of the bonds that should ties us, parents and children; at last, d ) the education factor in itself. Take a look at how many math concepts, logics, english language (yes, there are errors in the interface! AND THAT'S GOOD, SO WE CAN BE ALERT TO WHAT OUR KIDS ARE EXPOSED AT AT THE SAME TIME WE TEACH THEM THE RIGHT STUFF, in our own limited concepts or taking someone else's help) this game is full of. Expand the concept to life. And enjoy being a mother!

#20, Mr. Muresan - THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT! Please consider that people may be in vacation as this year's ending, so audience may be compromised. But I'm sure that the ones who notice your care about the community will appreciate and find a way to spread the word about it.

#16, Stephen - I've done better, I could be better. But the times are hard and... you know. If you may interest, take a look at the great work done by the only community I made part of that WORTH the effort at Gulf Knight's website. I've seem your work on games here and there, if you can please help me grabbing a copy of Jane's USAF and/or IAF - when I realized those guys could help me on this matter, errr... I was out, to say the least. Not of the community, I mean, I am still a member, have contacts with few of them - but life made a huge turn, and I'm recovering from that. So if you become a member, pm me thru there - it may take some weeks to reply as I'm not regular anymore and don't know if Giveaway would allow exchangig e-mail addresses on here.
So that's it.
Have a nice year all! I prefer to forget soon this one...

Nice one Robert. It’s always nice to see the developer make an appearance here. Something that is rarely done.

To Mamma24Kiddies, It’s a hard one to answer really. This is one of those games that you’ll absolutely love or hate. It really depends upon what sort of games your son likes to play. I’d advise you to download it and see if he likes it. Don’t forget to activate it with the provided key before the giveaway is over. You’ll find the key on the window that opens up during installation and in the read me file.

Well. What more can I say?
YOU MADE IT!!! HAHAHAHA
Mr. MURESAN (game developer, company owner), THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
It's barely unbelievable.
As for the game itself, a little ctrl+c here and there.
This game may not suit for the masses, but believe me, people: it’s one of the most thrilling games I’ve ever played - the feel given by the timer which whether may trigger or not security breaching policies is incomparable. Nearest experiences lead me to think it’s so exciting as Cold Fear or Doom 3. I’m serious.
***REMEMBER***: Run the game to get it fully registered - or pay the price for a year or so of waiting for a rerun, bothering GaD Team all over the way… lol
For the ones who missed previous offer (Hacker Evolution: Untold, released by its publisher JUST FEW DAYS BACK!), go for it - it's as good as this with a small touch of improvements - now you can drag the actual commands window to get it scrolling, instead of just pg up/down, besides having a smoother running on my Win2K-based PC, far better graphics and a good story - forget about reality, once here we're talking on erasing a guy with a high-energy satellite laser! Hehehe Not that far from TV series "24", be right with me - it's nearly the SAME approach.
No, you DON'T have to be a hacker to play this one - but this WILL require a little bit of *THINKING*, and a great thing about it is: YOU'LL REALLY MUST LEARN HOW STUFF WORKS, SO NEXT LEVEL WILL REQUIRE PREVIOUSLY ACQUIRED SKILLS AND WILL MAJORLY *NOT* GIVE YOU A HINT ON WHAT YOU'LL HAVE TO DO BY WHICH MEANS - it's up to you to figure about how things connect to each other, and that's key in this mind-level game. And for the action guys out there, you'll constantly have 70+ FPSs, but not the wait that suits you... lol

So is this the same game as last weekend's hacker evolution Untold,
or does it have different or additional gameplay/levels? It looks like both are currently for sale at the website, but the story line/description sounds the same... if you have last week's game, is there a reason to download this one - is it a different game, e.g. a different set of the same type of puzzles?

Hi Phil K:

This is the original game with the expansion pack added (called Reinsertion) both were originally given away as seperate giveaways, but have since been combined into one game (though it may have already been added when Reinsertion was given away on Sept 07), so you're effectively getting two games in one. The one given away was the third in the series (but now the second).

For newcomers to the game giveaway project:

If you're not happy with todays game there's about 80 free arcade games (commercially available elsewhere) available from www.Gametop.com, though (as with the space shooters above) when the games are closed down your browser is opened to Gametops home page; however this can be turned off with no other comebacks. I've tested virtually all of the games for Malware and they have all been clean. Gametop are unfortunately starting to ask if you want a toolbar (and in some cases even changing your home page, but this is optional, unlike MyPlayCity) installed with the newer additions to their stock so watch out when you''re installing the games. Just make sure the checkbox's are unchecked.

Also for newcomers theres hundreds of freeware and abandonware games available over in the forums. You can find a large chunk of them in the games synopsis thread, which I'm slowly updating to include all games that have been posted in the forums and I'll be categorising the games into genres sometime as well:

Game Synopsis thread:

Game Discussion Forums:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/forum/17

There's other game download sites which you can find links for in the forums, but do be careful as some such as MyPlayCity force you to have toolbars and browser hijacks (thats where your browser home page is reset to go to their home page) and others such as iWin that mess up your registry and enable masses of popups. There's another one that I've forgotten the name of, but there's ample warnings in the games discussion threads that hijacks your bandwidth (says so in the EULA) to use for it's own advertising to other punters.

Finally you can get an advert supported (but otherwise safe)commercially available arcade game every day from Gamehouse:

http://www.gamehouse.com/

This will be the last post this year, so I wish all those that celebrate the new year a happy gaming experience and:

A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Warm regards

Stephen

.

You'll find lots more space shooters in the following thread. May I suggest you try Universal Combat which is almost a half gigabyte download, but well worth it if yoou're into the space genre, it was a commercial DVD based game until the author decided to give it to the community last January 08. The whole thread is like an Aladdins cave of space shooters. Some of the Freeware games such as Fraxy are also worth checking out. That will be one of my free games for the week next week. (spoiler, lol)

Hi Kristen,

Regarding my name change, I’d not noticed until you’d mentioned it. I think it may have something to do with my Forum name as I can’t remember changing it. There doesn’t appear to be a box underneath the posting area where I can change it back to my usual signature. And it says logged into forums as Whiterabbit-uk, which is the first part of my Hotmail UK account;

Definitely not a game for everyone, thought i bought all the ones before the Untold game which was given away a short time ago (thanks GGOTD for completing my collection for me).

Simple enough concept, hack into systems, get the information you require whilst trying to beat the inbound traces to find you and disconnect you - endgame.

For anyone that used to like the old Hacker games for the Commodore 64 then this is a good game, personally, as a guy who loves the old text adventures still (yeah, in this day and age), I love this as it makes you stop and think as the missions get harder and harder, especially when you can't afford the cracking tools to crack the entire password and have to make an educated guess at what it is based on what you have managed to decode.

Ok game and I agree, either love it or hate it. When is some shooters or action games coming? The old Star Defender or Alien Shooter would be nice to see on here :)

I could not figure out how to play it. I'll pass up on downloading this one for now.

Yep, it's a thinking, remembering, and typing game. Certainly not for everyone. I just happen to like all those things hehe. Anyway, basically the same game offered last week as Whiterabbit, dropped the Stephen I see, pointed out. Nice actually in case someone missed it.

You'll find the games manual and walkthrough already added to the games installed folder, so no need to bother downloading it. As with the last one this comes with a password.
