Get ready for the galaxy mission! Hard times fell upon the galaxy and you are the only one to save it. The problem is that you have only one space tank to destroy the attacks of space shooters.
You are a volunteer assigned to the VIOLATOR ship. Your objective is to conduct a raid into enemy territory and destroy the troop supplies. For this particular long-term mission away from the supply ship, the scientists have developed Sawoid, a totally new type of armament not requiring reammunitioning! Nothing can stand the wrecking Sawoid. However, there is one shortcoming, Sawoid is hard to control! Good luck, private!
Egyptoid is a perfect blend of classic Arcanoid with the magic of Egypt. Traveling through 72 never-the-same levels, your objective will be to destroy various patterns of blocks by bouncing the ball. In doing this, you must keep an eye out for bonuses that can speed up or down the paddle, give an extra life, extend the paddle or make it magnetic.

Great Play after installs, loads alot faster and cleaner than version One, which is stubborn to load and kicks out all the time now. Same folder area as this one, nice improvement over previous, not sure what's different in loading the video. Just better, Thank-you. Pause button would be nice instead of exiting unless I miss something here.

Very happy to see this offering again. I lost the other one due to a crash. Download went smooth as well as the installation. Played on easy - whew. Its been some time. Not too use to a mouse as I use a tablet/pen. I have no issues with the game other than to use a pen would be great (I'm faster with a pen) ;O) This game is really good for the reflexes. As the last time, will enjoy. Thank you for having it again. Have a nice weekend.

I really enjoy this game. I especially like the graphics. I get a bit frustrated when there's too much going on at once & I can't find the ball. The symbol for losing a life is too similar to some of the coins. I'm glad there are a lot of extra lives to pick up, since I tend to lose quite a few. I think the help section should include info on what the magic symbols actually do, especially since they seem to be different from Egyptoid.
Thanks GGOTD & Stars Ashes!

Hi Carla, all game giveaways are checked thoroughly for all malware. If there were many reports of this problem then there may be a problem, but no one out of the thousands of community members have reported this problem. You should disable the program until the game is installed. What your program is giving is a false positive.

Both Egyptoid games are fun and I'm really happy to be able to get them on my new laptop. They work just as well on this Windows 7 machine as the XP. These are very playable. Thanks much for all you do for us.

Game downloaded and installed with no problems whatsoever. Game is perfect for beginners or for those who can't move a mouse fast enough. I do like that it has different levels so a beginner can start with it on easy and go up from there. Graphics are very good as well.

Excellent game, loved the first one and have played it many times. No problems with install (xp sp3/x86 and windows 7 machine) or registration. I have been hoping for the next version of this game and here it is today! Played first few levels already and love the new additions (especially the ghosts).
Only problem I have ever had is when the phone rings (magic jack) the game locks up (even in a window), or if I tab to something else cannot go back to the game so have to end program (but that could be a problem with my system - mentioning it here in case anyone else is seeing this and as a developer myself I know it helps to get feedback on all the issues people encounter).

Installs and runs on Win 7 64, able to set preferences and start the game, but have the same issue as with a previous game (sorry, don't remember which it was, it wasn't the original Egyptoid, it works properly). When I start the game and get the initial screen that tells about the power-ups, etc., and am unable to move forward from there. There is no start/play button to click and the only key that works on the keyboard is the key which takes me back to the prior screen.
All drivers are up-to-date, tried various resolutions, nothing resolves this issue.

Meh. Another filler from Stars Ashes. It seems they're just here to say that there's a game. Anyway, I remember Stars Ashes games having a built-in editor mode activates by using a modifier key and one of the F-keys. I think it was Egyptoid, though that just froze up on entering editor mode until you exited the editor. I'll see if I can find the key combo again.

Great one. Gets harder yes due to the mentioned ball physics. Ok W7 x64 Ultimate. Gets hard higher levels.
Do have to give raves to WR touting Hyperballoid 2. Found it at JenkatGames with a whole mess of tools to uncheck but prob others.
H2 has great graphics, editor, smooth ball action, lots pre-game options for screen sizes & such. Has clever game play. Excellent for fans of genre. I haven't tried others WR mentions as winners but H2 for sure is one! Thanks guys.

This is still a great game, and for five dollars, a great beginner game for those new to computers and or games. The graphics look a bit too dated now, but it still runs perfectly, even on my Windows 7 home premium, and a wacom graphics tablet, in place of a mouse. Nothing wrong with that at all ! Some more of that lovely music would be good to freshen it up too. Thank you got the great freebie, as always.

I love this game and have it from a previous giveaway. Works perfectly well on XP, and 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. I have an Asus EEPC and it will not run on that as it needs hardware vertex shaders. This is most likely the issue with the earlier poster. The EEPC runs most casual games such as Bejeweled 3 and all the Luxor's except Evolved.
Once again an enjoyable and good looking game as long as you have a separate video card or a more than basic netbook.

WhiteRabbit is right, this version has a much more interesting effects. I don't know what is WR talking about this game being Easy, unless is set to the Most Difficult Level. I can't get passed First stage ... I guess mhy reflexes are really bad!:D. This a very fun game. BTW, when you are setting up and chooses Sound Levels and what not and click on Accept ... the change it has already been made but you do not get any feeling that change has been done ... I should say it's too easy for me. I've been playing Breakouts in one form or another for over 30 years and for a long time all I played was breakout and space oriented games, so became very proficient at playing them. This game feels too slow for me.

To #3 Orkun - netbooks typically have a problem with games due to the lack of screen resolution adjustments and the fact youre only running win 7 starter. 1st update to win 7 Home premium, next hook your netbook up to an external monitor, this should help. I have a hp netbook running win7 home and hooked up to a protron external monitor and i can play this game perfectly fine.
I would like to say g'mornen to Stephen and all the GGAOTHDers, once again I know how my egyptoid2 back, thanks. Im not very good at these type of games loose all my lifes in the 1st few lvls but I have fun trying time and time again lol. Though right now im hooked on W.O.W, this makes an enjoyable break game. Thanks again Stephen for you reviews as they are very informative and you do alot to make the gameplay easier for those of us not used to certain genres of games.
To the developers, great game one suggestion tho how about a lvls editor, and a place for players to upload and/or download lvls, would be nice to see what kind and type of lvls we could come up with.
Thanks all

Thank you for your feedback wildspirit. I agree with you on the levels editor. Some of my favorite breakouts have editors (Ricochet Infinity with literally thousands of custom made levels tha you can download directly into the games level folder and Acky's XP Breakout. which also has some downloadable custom levels. Hyperballoid 2 also has a level editor, and Alawar did have a download page for custommade levels).

Hi Jason, have you tried all of the fixes mentioned in the FAQ's (found in the Game discussion stickies). You may find that a background program is causing a conflict. Try turning off background programs one at a time via Task Manager and then try the game after each one has been turned off. I'm not sure whether the games require the .net framework or another program such as OpenGL to work. It may be that you don't have these installed?

Response to Stephen:
Well, I could raise the difficulty to try and avoid all the power ups - but usually I play a game with all that stuff it has to offer ;)
I can understand that it can be great for people not so quick on the mouse - but aren´t the difficulty setting to be designed for exactly those? When I set a game to "hard" I want it to be hard :)
And yeah, there were a few levels I completed that fast. Some powerups (collected with on of the first releses of the ball into the level while ball magnet was active (which keeps after level transition, too)) resulted in more and more powerups falling down. Collecting them, too, resulted in a fireworks of explosions and unleashed bonus effects. And then the level was done ;)
.............................Moderator Comment.........................
Thank you for your reply Andreas. I've not played far into the game as I found it much too easy, with no challenge, so could easily be wrong about it being nigh on impossible to complete a level in 20 seconds.
Instead I prefer to go back to some of my old favorites such as Ricochet Infinity, Aky's XP Breakout, Incrediball, Breakquest and Shatter (to name just a few of my favorites). Most of the 3D like breakouts are too easy. I would say Incrediball and both Actionball games are exceptions as they do give you a challenge, though not as great as the 2D variety. I've also got a couple of 360 degree breakouts that are amongst the most challenging I've played; however the names escape me at the moment.
There's a free flash version that you can play, but it's nowhere near as good as the two i'm thinking of:
http://www.realflashgames.com/games/360-degree-breakout.html
Ahhh, just found another one that's either a copy of one I've got or it's had a name change. I purchased it some years ago, but it's now up for free on several sites called Plastic Balls:

That game could have been sooooo much better. Nice graphics with cool bonus effects. But the levels are somewhat boring and the overall difficulty level is waaaaay to easy. I completed the game with over 120(!) lives. It is a easy thing to raise the difficulty: Just lower the bonus lives and powerups! In some levels I was able to collect five additional lives. With the help of all the powerups I was able to complete some levels in under 20 seconds.
All that on highest difficulty level.
..................................Moderator comment..............................
Although an easy game for the more experienced player this is an ideal introduction to breakouts for those not so quick on the mouse, or those with arthritic hands. I've been playing breakouts ever since the first one way back in the late 70's and for many years was obessesed with breakouts yet I could not finish off a level in this game in less than 20 seconds. I timed myself and the quickest I was managing was around 90 seconds. Though that was early on in the game. Maybe using the special power ups it would be possible to shift all of the brick in that time, but with the fastest ball speed, it would be virtually impossible to complete a level so quickly without the aid of those specials.
(Then again I may be wrong; maybe I've lost my touch with these games as I don't play them as often as I used to several years ago). ;-)

Quick download and install on Vista 64-bit.
This is pretty much the same as the first Egyptoid (E1), though a little better.
The graphics are still simple, but look nice. I like the 3D. Love the music and sound effects.
In addition to the new levels and bonus thingies (Flame of Whatever, etc), one improvement from the first one I noticed was a slight change to ball physics. In E1, you could keep the bat in one place and it would not stray unless the bat changed size, and you could take out a whole column without having to move. I was only cheating myself, I know, but I play to win ;) Now it will change direction on its own after a few hits.
The ball physics are still not quite right. I wasn't sure what it was, but after playing E1, E2 and Sawoid for a while, I've figured it out: The ball stays at the same speed no matter how you hit it. In a good breakout game, the ball will move faster if you hit it at an angle while moving, slower if you hit in the middle of the bat while not moving. In Stars Ashes' arkanoids, the ball stays at a constants speed, which isn't natural movement.
As I suggested for Sawoid and/or E1, I'd recommend all the power-ups (or -downs) like the magnet, bat size, ball speed, etc, only last a certain time limit or usage. The gun add-on is limited, but it sucks getting stuck with the slowest ball speed until you die.
The ball moves pretty slow anyway, but on normal I got along well enough, mainly because it was sometimes hard to see the ball through all the coins and other icons falling down. Which reminds me, I think the bonuses might be too powerful or too easily attained.
Overall, I like it. Improve the ball physics and it would be awesome.
...............................Moderator Comment...........................
Thank you for your feedback Amanda. It's because of the lack of variable ball speeds that I think this particular game (and in fact all of Star Ashes breakouts) are too easy to beat.

Installationl>:
The game downloads as a 13.2MB zip file that unpacks to a read me that contains the terms and conditions and a wrapped dual activation and set up module. Just for the newcomers amongst today’s users that means the game will be registered once it’s gone through the set up process, so there’s no registering the game with a activation code.
The game installs to C:\Games\Egyptoid 2\
There’s no shortcut installed to either the Start Menu/Programs list or the desktop, so you’ll need to create your own by opening up the installed games folder and creating one via the games executable. The games icon is an improvement on the original Egyptoid icon.
The game should work on all windows operating systems from XP onwards. (I’ve tested it on XP Pro with SP3 32 bit, Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit and Win 7 Pro and Ultimate 64 bit). If you miss todays giveaway you can get it 24/7 from gametop though it's known as egyptoball. See end of the review for a download link.
Introductionl>:
Egyptoid 2 received a positive 76% of votes from 292 total votes back in December 2007 when it was first given away. There were 55 comments which you can read http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/egyptoid-2/. It was again given away last October where it received a positive 87% from 385 votes and 49 comments. You can read those comments via the following link: http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/egyptoid-2-2/
It was then given away again back in May 2008 where it received a positive vote of 80% out of 548 votes, with 86 comments which you can read http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/egy-2-ptoid/
http://www.starsashes.com/egyptoid_2.html
The Gamel>:
Reference Taken and then edited from the help menu in game
Basically Egyptoid 2 is similar to the original Egyptoid apart from some graphical enhancement’s plus of course a whole new set of levels to destroy. There are 17 bonuses, including the lightning cannon and the mega magic cannon, these two are the only additions from the first version of the game. Other bonuses that are also found in the original, but are slightly different from your normal Arkanoid are the three different levels of ball destruction from high, maximum and absolute. As with the first game there are also seven special symbols to collect. Collecting three of the same will give you magic spells that range from ‘the glance of Horus, Breath of Atum, Lightning of Hathor, Fire of Ra, Curse of Atem, Fireball of Oseris, and the ‘Pitch of Darkness’ that when added to the bonuses makes a total of 24 bonuses. The spells will be expended as soon as you collect the three symbols. So ensure your bat is in a suitable position to take advantage of the spells power. That is if your bat just so happens to be under an area of very few bricks you will not make the most of the spell. The spells are basically the same as those you got in the original Egyptoid apart from that the developers have changed the names around a little, for example the Fire of Ra becomes the Flame of Ra (and there’s a Fire of Aten,) and the Pitch of Darkness was known as Outer Darkness. Also the graphics are better. To boost your score there are lots of gems to collect.
With respect to playability, I found that I had to set it on the most difficult setting to make the game even slightly challenging. As it suffers the same as many 3D arkanoids in that the ball does seem to travel incredibly slow. This would be an ideal game for those who are new to this genre as well as younger children. If you like 3D arkanoids and want more of a challenge I would suggest checking out the games I’ve suggested in the section at the end of this review. The first one has been amongst my favourites for a few years and the second one is much better than its predecessor Action Ball Deluxe and is now free from MyPlayCity 24/7 (Actionball 2). Apart from Actionball 2 you’ll also find several more excellent arkanoids over at MyPlayCity including hyperblloid 2 (watch out for toolbars being installed) which has a levels editor. Alawar did have a download link for community based levels, but I’m not sure if that exists any longer.
Videol>:

Conclusionl>:
In my opinion this version is better than the first one in the series. If you were not in the enviable position of getting it free today and had the choice of buying either one, I’d definitely buy Egyptoid 2.
With respect to playability, I found that I had to set it on the most difficult setting to make the game even slightly challenging (though I have been playing these games for more than 30 years (starting with the very first one); because it suffers the same as many 3D arkanoids in that the ball does seem to travel incredibly slow. This would be an ideal game for those who are new to this genre as well as younger children. If you like 3D arkanoids and want more of a challenge I would suggest checking out my suggestions below. Acky's XP Breakout and Ricochet infinity have been amongst my favourites for many years.
Suggestions and Helpl>
If you have ANY problems running the game please refer to the FAQ's over in the forums. You can access the FAQ's HERE.
If you have any problems later in the day when most visitors have already been and gone, please post an additional comment over in the forums in the thread I've created HERE
Alawar has changed it's free game of the month to Land of Runes. There's no free Realore game this week.
Steams weekend deal is the Deus Ex franchise. You can get the whole bundle including all dlc's for less than £10/~$15 or alternatively if you already have some of the games get each title or dlc for 75% off. The latest version of the game Deus Ex: Human Revolution can be purchased for only £4.99/$7.49
You'll also find loads of sale items via the Didimatic Site (though there are a couple more sites that list even more games but I've lost the links), in particular there's 80% off most of the Total War franchise over on Gamersgate (all but the first Medieval Total War game). For £20, that's a steal. I paid more than that for each individual game, lol. Gamersgate also have a 75% off sale on some of their Indie games. Steams 24 hour sale is 80% off Bejeweled (only £2.99).
There's more humble bundles out this week or that are continuing from last week. You can find details via the following links.
The Junebug Bundle ends Tuesday (£3.22 subject to change)
Indiefort bundle (ends Monday 25th June) £60/$90 worth of games for only £3.99
IUP Bundle (ends this weekend) This bundle has a load of games not seen in any bundle before ($3.99)
I'd also check the Free Games Synopsis which has most of the games listed in the forums, though I've not updated it since before Christmas (week 100), so there are a lot of games not listed (we are on Week 162), but you can find these by sifting through the Game Discussion Forum and specifically looking for the free games project posts which always start with a Week number. There have been several excellent freeware space shooters posted recently since I last updated the synopsis. The list below isn't exhaustive. i've only selected those games that have been posted over the past several weeks. There are loads more hidden in the game discussion forums from week 100 to the present (week 162).
Similar Breakout/Arkanoid Games available for freel>
There are hundreds of breakouts available on the net. The few suggestions I've listed below only scratch the surface but are amongst my favorites. (I have over 200 breakouts in my games library). There have been few new releases over the last three or four years apart from Shatter, Actionball 2, Hyperballoid 2 and Magicball 4 (all the Magicball series had a name change a couple of years ago to Smashball for some unknown reason)
As 3D arkanoids go Egyptoid is reasonably challenging when you compare it to the likes of the Magic Ball series which are very easy by comparison. I've listed a few below that you can purchase, though Actionball 2 and Hyperballoid 2 can now also be downloaded for free from MyPlayCity, but despite unchecking the toolbar and home page hijack check boxes I still got a MyPlaycity toolbar installed when I recently installed the MyPlayCity version of hyperballoid 2 (I think I may have given away my activation code for this game some time ago) so I would urge you to support the developers of these games by purchasing them if you can afford to.
Incrediball: The Seven Sapphires
Action Ball 2
Nuclear Ball
Nuclear Ball 2
Gem Ball
There are of course many more arkanoids, two of the best include Ricochet Infinity and Acky’s XP Breakout as well as more recent releases such as Shatter. You won’t find these free unless you go to ‘illegal’ peer to peer sites but you will find lots of arkanoid/breakouts over at MyPlayCity and other free games sites like Gametop and FreeGamePick. Do watch out for the toolbars and home page hijacks when using these sites though. A couple of the ones I list above such as Nuclear Ball and Gem ball may be amongst the freebies though they have had name changes (Nuclear Ball changes to A Ball). Caiman games also has loads of freeware breakouts, but at the moment their download section is offline while they transfer everything to a new site. The following has been tagged onto this review from a previous breakout giveaway. you'll find some repeat statements which I've not got the time to remove, so please forgive me for the duplicate postings. ;-)
You'll find loads of Arkanoid/breakouts HERE, HERE (Giveaway forums) and HERE (Caimans – almost 200 2D and 3D breakout games, though the download section is deactivated at the moment for reasons I've already mentioned)
HERE
You can also download a previous gamegiveaway Sawnoid every day for free over at Gametop as well as several others such as A-Ball (which is also known as Nuclear Ball), Geometry Ball, Scaraball, Cosmoball plus others, though you will get your browser opening every time you shut the game down. Thankfully this is one of the games they have had for quite some time so there’s no tool bar or home page tick boxes to bother with, but just in case they've changed it since I last checked make sure when you are installing the game that you watch each step of the installation wizard.
You’ll also find 13 breakout titles over at MyPlayCity HERE, that now include several of Alawars breakouts such as all of the Strike Ball games (Strikeball, Strikeball 2 and Strikeball 3), as well as one of my early favorites called Actionball Deluxe and it's sequel Actionball 2; oh yeah and not forgetting the second Hyperballoid game, which in my opinion was a big improvement on the original despite the first one having a massive number of levels (over a thousand) with gorgeous graphics called (not surprisingly) Hyperballoid Complete Edition (or if you purchase it from Big fish Hyperballoid Gold edition) - the down side w.r.t. the original, was that even with the speed up power-ups, the ball used to go too slow for me, (however; GMMan did create a speed-up mod for me); there's also previous giveaways (though not Alawar games) such as Egypt Ball and Egyptian Ball as well as several others that you can download for free. I recommend all of the Alawar titles especially Hyperballoid 2 (Which has an editor for making more levels - there may be custom made levels to download via Alawars site, but I've not checked in some time) and the original Actionball Deluxe (the sequel also has upgradeable power-ups) and Strikeball 3 (The third in the series is similar to the earlier Magic Ball games {Magic Ball 2} but with better graphics and power ups that are also upgradeable, plus the game is slightly more challenging than any of the Magic Ball series (which for some reason Alawar decided to change the name from Magic Ball to Smashball Frenzy)). Unfortunately the best (IMO) arkanoid/breakouts such as Ricochet infinity, Acky's XP Breakout, Reaxxion and Shatter are not available for free via any of the free game sites apart from illegal ones. You can purchase Shatter from Steam for £6.99, though during the big sales over the summer and Christmas period and maybe thanksgiving you can get up to 75% off. Both Ricochet infinity and Acky's XP Breakout have editors and for the former thousands (literally well over 60 000) of downloadable levels for free. There are also free level packs for Acky's XP Breakout, but not to the same extent as Ricochet. you download the levels for ricochet directly from the game and can upload your own creation from the game as well (which probably explains why there are so many - all the levels are graded for game play, graphics etc and get a score of A to D with +'s and -'s (for example B+; though the best of the best are starred as well)
ps. You'll find the Egyptoid 2 for free over at Gametop 24/7, though it's had a name change to Egyptoball:
Please note that if you get any games from Gametop or MyPlayCity you need to watch out for toolbar installations and home page hijacks. Just un-check the check boxes. with MPC games you may need to do this every time you boot a game up unless you create a new shortcut from the installed executable.
