Death From Above!

Viewed from a top-down perspective, Bullet Candy allows for a true 360° shoot-em-up experience. With all of your enemies in view at all times it's easy to see and, more importantly, shoot them into tiny little pieces.

Alternatively, use a dual analog control pad for a better, more natural control method.

Download worked just fine for me, setup program was a little quirky (as others have mentioned) but to its credit it installed the file right where it said it would. The game works well (on my pretty nice modern system with updated OpenGL drivers) and looks gorgeous. Sounds like it could stand to have been tested on a wider variety of systems, but for me it worked fine. Thanks!

Well Bill, that's the file that's in my Games folder, problem , it's not labeled .exe, only Bullet Candy and is as a plain file. I get no data folder with it. It is in fact the .exe file but won't open, believe me, I have been through this a thousand times. It's like a broken installer. Sure I even right clicked and unblocked it , didn't matter. The file is a dead file. I also get no option for video in setup etc...or any options at all except where to put the Game folder. It doesnt' matter now anyay the trial is done and I never got it installed. I have opengl, directx, I use my pc for gaming, graphics etc. with no problems. Every system is different but considering this is a pay for game originally, I am amazed how many installer issues there were. If it was Beta, yeah. Anyway, I gave up. But thanks for the info.

To pauloparra #38:
I ha ve two XP on my PC and a Vista. On first XP I have near latest drivers (ATI Catalyst 6.12, Audigy latest driver), and on second XP I use older drivers. I cannot play with game. Just double click on exe, and nothing.
I go to Vista, double click, and no problem: game running with Vista drivers (latest ATI and Audigy beta driver). I think game is ok, but maybe this is a driver problem (video or sound card).

Well Paul (#52) it is a file called "Bullet Candy.exe" and stored by default in "C:\Games\Bullet Candy" if you didn't change it. Also it has a data folder with it as well.

AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

This will get the blood pumping. Drive your eyes buggy. I love it!!!

Of course, not reading the instructions first, I got through the first couple of waves before figuring out I was supposed to move with the arrow keys and not just aim with the mouse. :-P

Download, extract, fire up the exe. As Steve-o would say, "boom".

Well, that's it. I spent another hour and a half trying to get it running, no luck. The "supposed" exe file is not showing as exe. I tried IE to download thinking FF may be an issue with the download, no luck. Tried on my son's computer when he got home, didn't work for him either and he has a gaming pc. I don't doubt it works for some but I don't doubt it isn't working for other's either. I hope I don't come across this the wrong way but I have to agree with another post above, what about the paying people? Then again, they get support I suppose. So I am not actually rating the game since I can't but stick to my rating of still not being able to get it running. And just to be honest, I do pc repair, network security, HTML, some "light experience with programming"do many manual registry fixes, OSs from 9X to Vista and Linux and have to say, this was a royal pain to get running, it shouldn't be that way. I test software in my spare time and have a thousand free and paid on my back up drive, I have never had such a hard time getting something to install, never. It seems like you have good intentions and mean well, but I truly think free support for at least 3 days should have been implemented here. Otherwise how do you think some of us will react to buying any software? Probably won't if it can't be trusted to work. Just a thought there. Anyway, good luck with your games and like I said, I am sure those who got it running are enjoying it. Thanks for the freebie anyway, maybe next time.
Take care,
Paul

Works with mouse, keyboard, and joystick as well. Even supports dual joysticks like the I-Controller. Wow such a fantastic game! I think not downloading based by some negative comments by others would be a real loss. Great games like this are hard to find. Even here! Keep up the great job! Kudos.

Follow-up: WinRAR self-extracting archives that *I* make crash anyway, so it's definitely an issue on my system.

I liked the game, but had to turn off the music because, like Keilaron says, there is some distortion. I hear it as white noise in the background, so I turned the music off.
Everything else looks, sounds and plays fine if the right options are chosen. I used my saitek gamepad and it worked great, even in analog mode.
The game is definitely in a beta stage still. Some choices of the options will make the game go insanely fast. I didn't try full screen, but windowed with DirectX and lowest resolution works ok for me. Anything else...
This game still needs work, not much but it does. I wonder if paying customers are complaining.

That's my opinion anyway.

Hear of so many having so much trouble and other saying it is just a lame game, I just won't bother downloading it.

I guess is the result of having started the engines again after after the downtime and the guys were too tired to give us a good game. They probably closed their eyes and pointed to one of the "on the works" game.

I'll check back another day.

#38 (pauloparra) -- Yeah, I have WinRAR installed. Permissions weren't an issue: ANY KEY OR BUTTON, including just hitting home or backspace or clicking "browse". By crash, I really meant crash, not give out an error.

Either way, I finally got it -- had to grab the archive from my temporary files before letting the program close. WinRAR was able to read that archive just fine, so I don't know what the issue was...
Strangely, it seems to have no icon. Hmm.

Anyway, this game's pretty cool, though I seem to be beaten fairly easily. Then again, I was beaten fairly easily in the game I'm going to compare this to :P
This is like some kind space-borne psychedelic sped-up version of Robotron for Atari. I kid you not. It had many of the same elements.
That isn't to say that it's a copy-off nor that it's a bad game, but it does bear resemblances I couldn't help seeing.

But once again, bugs...
1. In the main menu, or really anywhere: Clicking where nothing to click on causes next clickable item to be automatically clicked.
2. While the music was nice, it had quite a bit of overfeed (abnormal distortion - I don't mean regular distortion): Anyone with a good subwoofer (and a good ear) will notice that the bass was recorded (or pre-amplified) too loud.

No. 32 : First of all, thank you for the information for everyone having issues. I do wish this would work for me, my example yet again,

1. I go through the extraction, setup, verify to unlock, etc...When running the setup.exe, this happens, the BulletCandy file, supposed .exe,

To Mykee
I am running XP sp2 and it worked the first time. Do you have the latest DirectX and/or display drivers?

To Keilaron
Do you have your own version on winrar installed on your computer?
The size of setup.exe should be 7354 Kb.
When you run setup.exe a window that is called "Bullet Candy Setup" should appear. The window has a button called "Browse" which allows you to choose the place where the game is installed.

Make sure you have write privileges to the folder you are installing into. If not, the installation will fail as it tries to write files where it cannot. Run as admin and you should have no problem as long as you stay away from other "My Documents" users accounts. To check, open any file and try to save it in the directory you plan to install the game on. So click on Browse and choose the directory.

At th bottom of the window there should be two buttons, called "Install" and "Cancel".

Click install. If you have privileges I don't see any reason it should fail unless your download is corrupted (i.e. download again). I don't know what to make of your error messages. Like I said before, run it with admin privileges and see what happens. The install went fast on my machine, a 2.7 Mhz pentium, and then a IE window shows up saying that you have Bullet Candy was successfully activated.

I can't even get the Setup to run. I can extract all the files, and all of them *seem* intact, but when I run setup, the following happens:
1. The usual "checking for availability of giveaway" window shows up, then goes away.
2. A WinRAR self-extractor window shows up, but the moment that I click anything or hit any key, it crashes.
AppName: we217.tmp AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 7b5a01d2

Any ideas?

To those having trouble installing, these are the steps I used:

#1 download BulletCandy.zip and open it with winrar or whatever unzipper you have.

#2 Select ALL files listed in winrar or whatever unzipper you have. If you are using winRAR, the default directory to unzip should be the same directory bulletCandy.zip is at. That's fine. If you are not using winrar, select a place you can get to. To me the directory where the .zip file is works best. less directories to deal with. Whatever directory you choose, write it down, you will need to get there later.

#3 When #2 finishes unzipping all files inside BulletCany.zip, go inside the directory you wrote down, that is, the one you decided to unzip BulletCandy.zip into. Inside that directory there has to be a directory named BulletCandy. Inside the BulletCandy directory there are 5 files named:

Bullet Candy manual.pdf
Important Update 4 Info.rtf
OpneGL or DirectX.rtf
readme.txt
Setup.exe

Only the first and the last files should be largish. The size of setup.exe must be 7354 KB

#4 Read readme.txt, InportantUpdate and OpenGLorDirectX. Readme.txt should ask you to ...

#5 run setup.exe. When setup.exe runs it asks you where do you want to install the game. Choose a place, write it down, you will need it later. Choosing the same directory as before is fine, but I prefer Program Files.

#6 When setup.exe finishes running go into the directory you wrote down, that is, the directory that you chose to install the game into. Inside the directory there must be only one file, Bullet Candy.exe. Run it and choose whatever combination of sizes, openGL or DirectX and full window or not. As Bullet Candy is running a new directory called data is created. Don't go inside it, but its presence indicates that all is well and you have the full copy of the game that will never expire.

#7 Experiment with combinations of the options until the game runs well or read the files that I listed in #4 carefully. Ask questions if you don't know what things mean, but the game is now installed and runs fine.

#8 If you have attempted to installed it but failed to get it to work, erase all files, everything, and start from #1

#9 Once the game is running, right click on Bullet Candy.exe and choose create shortcut. Move the shortcut to the Desktop. Clicking on the Desktop icon you just moved makes the program run.

#10 I hope I didn't make any mistakes. If somebody who has installed the game sees one, please correct it so people can install and run the full, never expiring game.

Well, hoping to give this a second chance, I even went through the trouble of getting openGL, already had DirectX updated, and still the same, the file doesn't even say .exe , click on it, a quick box , nothing. In the notes it says to choose DX or GL, I don't get any such option, just where to put the file, that's all. I have re-downloaded, re-installed, numerous times, used Winzip (which I own) PK, Windows extraction, Winrar, all the same result. No icon, just a file with no title for .exe. I do appreciate free giveaways honestly but all this trouble to get a small game to run still leaves me with my original vote. I'm sure those who got it to run enjoy it fine but it's not in the cards for me it seems.

To 12: My pc isn't old and I have 3 kids wife with cancer and bills to pay. But if you would like to buy a new MB for me and hardware, i'm all ears :) I'll even give you my addy. Either way, I run Doom, Halo, albeit trials, still, I have had no gaming issues, I do graphics work as well with PS, Gimp, I run GoogleEarth, NPs. I highly doubt this small game would render my pc outdated or useless.

It's an interesting game, to say the least. I got it running on the family's box quite easily, though the installer really did leave a fair bit to be desired (I have to create a start menu entry for the family manually -- they don't know how to find applications without the aid of that hideous double-width start menu that WinXP ships with :))
I just don't really see the correlation between this game and Ikaruga (is there a polarity system that I missed?), however, so the description is a bit off.

One thing I would ask for is an icon for the application. Seeing the 'default application' icon that ships with WinXP is a tad upsetting, as well.

* I should note that I'm not just picking on you about the start menu thing: Everything Realore has released does not seem to create start menu entries, either. While it's fine for a fair percentage of users who already know how to go back and place these games in their start menus, or on their various docking utilities (ObjectDock, Y'z Dock, etc)... People who barely know how to use the Internet, much less their own computers may be baffled.
At this point, I'll stop, because I'm completely derailing the whole thing here... :D

HELP PLEASE! I'm having problems w/ install. I doubled clicked the setup exe. icon -in WinRAR. It unzipped and the 'Activating/connecting w/ GAOTD' window appeared. Nothing eles happened. The web site never opened. I tried over & over. Each time, same thing & new activating windows -they won't close! I also tried extracting to a folder; it left a 'key' icon which I double clicked and got the same results as before -[the activate/connect message appeared, then nothing.]
I'm thinking I'll have to 'Delete' what I can [and 'restart' PC if the windows don't close]. Then go back & try Downloading + Install again.! ,,,,, --GAOTD Team [& anyone eles], -what do you think ??

Fantastic giveaway. This is actually a game I had played the demo of before and enjoyed (it was featured on GameTunnel), so it's great to see it show up here. Using WASD to move the ship and the mouse to control direction of fire works great.

It's a little odd that the "installer" only creates a single .exe file and a "data" folder that lives wherever you tell it, and doesn't make start menu entries or anything. That seems a little sloppy. So 4/10 on the installer, but 9/10 on the game. :-D
