To Gambana or Double Games..or whoever.

If I had paid the asking price for this game, I would be livid. This game need to be fixed and released again.. The errors in this game are unacceptable for a nearly $20.00 game in this day and age.

Sorry, Wabbit, i am usually pretty liberal in my judgement of games..but this one is ridiculous. I couldn't refer any of my word puzzle friends without being embarrassed.

Sorry for the very late moderation. Definitely not worth more than a few dollars IMO, especially when you consider the games you can purchase these days./

Buyer beware,
I deleted your comment because quite frankly it was scare mongering. No one else throughout the whole of the giveaway complained of this problem. If there was malware many more users would have complained

besides, the giveaway team have never given any software that was infected with malware in over 6 years of operating. What you are getting is a false positive. The setup.gcd file is notorious for setting off users software because it contains its own software security.

The publisher needs to fix ALL of the spelling errors and rerelease the game.

I found two things wrong. First when you get so far and working on a screen you get to the last word and they mis-spelled it. No way to win. Second there is no way to save your score. You quit and have to start with a score of zero.

It downloaded and installed with no problems, and runs just fine on my Windows 7x64 laptop. The game is quite a simple one, but there's no harm in that - sometimes you want a game that you can play in a few minutes while you're taking a break or waiting for something to happen.

The graphics are, I suppose, a bit static and possibly a bit old-fashioned, but with a wordsearch type of game there isn't a lot of dancing and high kicking to be done anyway. The board and the playing are the main points, and I didn't have a problem with those.

As for the music, which some people have said they didn't like - I was playing with the sound off anyway, because there was someone else in the room, so the sound wasn't any bother - I couldn't hear a thing!

It's a pleasant little game, and will suit me down to the ground for filling in a few minutes here and there. Many thanks to all concerned!

2 things i would do if i was the coder.
allow words to be tagged from either end since letters seem to not be shared: basketball or llabteksab specially in timed mode.

Allow the grid lines to be toggled on/off.

I like it a lot. Didn't notice the buttons to mute the music and sound at first and the music drove me nuts. Now I think the game is very cool. Did the first puzzle in Quest mode, which happened to be cars and didn't notice any misspelling. Don't have the time to go any further. The English in the instructions sometimes includes obvious errors, so I'm not surprised it undermines the credibility of the game in some users' eyes. Must have been written by non-native English speakers and it was too hard to find a native English speaker to check a few sentences and correct them :-). Guess that's why they have so many freeware programs with multilingual versions. LOL! ;-)). Anyway, still thumbs up from me. Nice try for a puzzle game and a nice variation of the type of game given away here. Thanks!

"Are you crazy about books?" Yes, I am. But what does that have to do with this game? "BookStories" contains neither books nor stories (sort of like the famous NYC "Egg Cream" drink). OK, a vague storyline in the Quest mode, but it's not much. Oh, right, there are *words* in books and there are *words* in this game! ... um, no, sorry. You need to find another, more appropriate, catch-phrase. And, if you are going to make a Word Game you need to know how to speel corecctly. (I did that on purpose.) The board called Word Cities wanted to be WORLD Cities, I'm sure. OK, that's just a typo. "Substraction" on the Math board? ...and many others, some mentioned by others above. While this sort of thing might "pass" in a Match3 game, and barely be noticed in an Shooter game, if you are going to appeal to people (not "Peoples" - another typo) who love words, these fixes are mandatory, or you will drive your prime buyers to distraction and lose credibility with all of your customers.

Why must I re-select my preferences (mode, grid size, topic) after every (non-quest) game? Why do the letters disappear? Why can't we have some words that intersect or overlap to make play more complex? The vocabulary is not (lower) grade-school oriented, so why are the interface and graphics? I'd also like to highlight a word by dragging my cursor in either direction, and the oft-mentioned ability to turn off the hints. The trophies are unnecessary; the interruptions to present them are annoying. It would be nice if the Search List was in alphabetical order.

This is a basic, straight forward Word-Search. I turned off the music; kept the sound effects in Relaxed Mode but had to turn the sound off completely in Quest Mode because the clock ticking was making me "antsy" - which is not at all what I want in game-play. (I had plenty of time to finish each level; maybe a "warning" sound would be useful for the final minute, but that constant ticking just had to go.) It is reasonably attractive and plays smoothly. I've only tried a few puzzles; typos in all but one. Some "tweaking" is definitely required.

Installed easily and runs well with Windows7.

Thank you to DoubleGames, GGOTD, and, as always, the knowledgeable and ever patient Whiterabbit aka Stephen.
P.S. I'd love to see more word games, and a nice Solitaire suite.

Haven't hit any of the misspelled words the others are talking about but I would like an option to turn the music off instead of having to mute my computer. I would also like the word lists in alphabetical order the way it is in most word search games. Will play more later and add comments if I have any.

.............................Moderator comment............................

Hi Lonnih, you can mute the music via the button to the top right of the screen, but not when you are in the main menu.

You can see it second left (the musical note that's next to the speaker symbol) to the one I've pointed to with the red arrow, on the left of it. (Borrowed the image from one of my previous answers to a question above.

The MyPlayCity version has slightly different graphics for the setting of the options so it may be an older version of the game.

However, it does look like it's substantially the same game. I wish I had known that back in November/December when I was rebuilding my game library. It took 6 weeks as it was and this was one of the relatively few failures.

It is nice to see a word game here. It needs to have an option to turn off hints. We word nuts don't like to be bugged with hints. The more complicated levels are good. Can you set it up so that the player has an option to find words without a word list and in alternating directions as in not just linear. That would make it a really challenging game. This is a keeper.
Thanks

Not sure? Possibly Gambana and Double games are connected? (we got a lot of double Games early on in the project).

As Netjera (9) noted, there is a sound even if you mute the music (a standard for me with ALL games -- I like sound effects but not background music)but it may not be there if you play relaxed mode rather than "Quest". That sound is a clock ticking!

There is no "warning" that the screen has changed for the trophies. I got 3 trophies in the first 2 rounds so they seem to be fairly easy to earn. One requires you to complete the Quest so it will take a bit longer to earn.

I normally don't like word puzzles but word search puzzles are different and it is a little easier (as noted) as you go along because the words are no allowed to overlap. That is different than the standard word search puzzle (in books). Erasing words as you find them does make the puzzle much easier.

I lost this game when I got my new computer last October when the version I had reverted to trial (as expected) so I was surprised to find one of my few failures of this time to be "reversed".

This is not a true install but just a self-extracting compresses file. My file folder pointers were already where I wanted them to be so that was easy. I just had to create my new shortcut and put it in place (NOT the desktop).

I am now running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1 and this game works fine. It doesn't even need the flag to ignore high DPI settings - it handles my 150% font size just fine.

This is a keeper (again).

I like word search, so this was a nice change. However, the grammer is terrible and the constant interruptions of the trophies was not necessary.
Thanks anyway for the game.

Oh. When I first read the description I got REALLY EXCITED! I thought BOOKWORM, BOOKWORM, BOOKWORM! I love, Love LOVE BOOKWORM! BOOKWORM is FUN FUN FUN with the cute lil worm and buring tiles and cool words to make!

BUT NOOOOOOO! This is just a dumb ol' word search game. I can buy these books at the corner store for $1 each. You find a word. Then you find a word. Then you find a word. Then you find a word. Guess what you do next! No, that's not right. You find a word.

I was really hoping for a Saint Patrick's FISHDOM game today. How cool would that be? SUPER COOL!

Oh well. Jumping armadillos and find a word this week. Better luck Saturday!

Works fine on Win7 64bit and Win8 64bit.
Does what it says. Lack of chancing the soundvolume. There could be a option for the blincking word light, instead of showing up after some seconds. Somekind of warning for the awards too, would be better.

I really enjoyed this game. I like word search games, and it was a refreshing change to see a word search on the computer that wasn't bland and boring.

That being-said, I found the music a bit annoying, and when I went to mute it, I discovered that the game made a clicking noise which only went away when I muted ALL the sound.

I also thought it was a bit confusing that when you win a trophy it switches to the trophy screen with no warning. (At least, it seemed that way with the game muted.) At first, I thought the game was locking up, then I realized I was on another screen and realized I'd won a trophy. It would be helpful if there were some sparkles or something. :)

Nice game though. I'm going to keep it.

Thanks for another game.

I agree with mulebear that the awards do not add anything to the game. However I find it quite relaxing to search the words allthough the graphics are very basic.
The game can only be played in full screen, which is a downside for me.
I would also like to see a bit of variety in the word games, after 3 or 4 grids I get bored.

But still a nice game to download.

Interesting style of game - i like it - however, as developers all seem to program into their game these days, if you go around 40 seconds without finding a word - then the game lights up the first letter of the next work on the list and as usual, there doesn't seem to be any way to shut off the "autohint" feature.
To me this detracts from the gameplay and, in effect, makes this a timed game.
Other than that its a good game.
Thanks for letting us try it out.

For a game about Libraries, the English in the storyline and trophy case isn't very good.
Graphics and smoothness of graphics seem dated, even for a casual game such as this, but hey: You'd get it for the word searches, which have been okay so far.
I'd get rid of the ticking noise for the clock winding down in Story, it's very distracting and kind of stressful, not the things you want while playing a casual game.
Overall, I'd rate this game a 5/10, but since I don't have a word search game on my computer yet I'll probably keep it.

There is no install routine with this game. Instead you merely extract the game folder to a location of your choice. Your last location should be set as the default so if that is acceptable just click OK. Otherwise browse for your desired location.

The extracted folder is just about 20 MB. I have this game from an earlier giveaway but it is about half the size. Does that mean there are more level? Improved graphics or sounds? What is the reason for the increase in folder size and should I replace my current game with this new version?

Either way this is a nice giveaway. The game is fun and a nice way to fill some time. Thank you GGOTD team and Gambana.

This is a very simplistic, but poorly done, word search game. The graphics are no better than what you would find in any Flash based online game and, for a "library" game, the grammar is atrocious.

The game play was interrupted several times in which I was taken to a new screen to give me a meaningless award. It was very annoying and totally unnecessary.

Though I love word games, I found this one to be very disappointing.

If you are interested in getting a legal copy of the recently released game (released last month) Dead Space 3 at a knock down price check out the Games, Games, and yet more Games plus Download, Installation & Game play Problems section below

BookStories:

In Brief:

A word search game with awards. Scores a 6.2

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com
Installation:

Sky Taxi 3: The Movie downloads to a 19.9 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup activation file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked. This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file sorts the problem out. The installed game is 18.6 MB in size. and installs to:

C:\Games\BookStories

by default but can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. There is no uninstaller, but this game is free standing so to delete just remove the installed folder from your hard drive. No shortcuts are installed so you will have to create your own which as most of you know is easy an easy process (right click on the games executable then select ‘Send to’ then from the drop down menu select ‘Desktop (create shortcut) ). If you want to create a start menu/programs folder you’ll need to find the appropriate folders via your account. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files.

I've only tested the game on Win 7 this time around, Anyone running Win 8, Vista or XP, please confirm whether this game works Thanks.

This game is available from MyPlayCity, but it's called Word Game Deluxe
(Thanks for the heads up April :) )

Introduction:

Are you crazy about books? Then it’s up to you to embark into the amazing word challenge you have never seen before! Test your word-building skills combining letters on the grid and help a young librarian get back all books, which were lost during the cleaning. Manage with the task successfully – and you will get a rather prominent reward that will be kept in a Trophy Room. Are you erudite enough to get over this brain-bending word challenge now?

Reference accessed HERE March 2013

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com
The Game:

The aim of the game is to find all of the words shown on the game board. The words you need to find are shown to the left of the screen. you'll find them on the board in 8 different directions, vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

To mark a word, click on the first letter then drag your mouse cursor across the word to the last letter, then let go of the mouse button. If you get stuck for a certain amount of time, hints will appear on the game field via a small glowing star on the first letter of the word. All words found will be marked with red, and each found word will be rubbed out from the word grid.

There are two game modes in the game, Quest & Relaxing.

Quest Mode:

Quest mode contains increasingly difficult levels with random themes. The higher the level, the greater the score. As you progress through a level, the words get easier to find due to all found words being rubbed out from the grid.

Relaxing Mode:

In this mode you can choose the size of the grid and theme; there's 30 to choose from , (or select random theme). There is no timer in relaxed mode.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com
System Requirements:

Windows XP-Vista
CPU: 800 MHz
System Memory: 256 MB RAM
HDD: 12 MB

Music:

There's no way of changing the music unless you are adept at editing the games executable file. You'd also need a specialist editor to do this.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com
Conclusion:

A straightforward word search game. I found it playable, but it lacks the ability to create your own word searches (a must have IMO) and a toggle to get rid of the hints. I'd allow users to be able to create a wider range of grid sizes as well.

Scoring

Game play – 7
Graphics – 6
Audio – 6
Re-playability – 7
Originality – 6

Total = 6.4 out of 10

Problems:

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game discussion section. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity has the most with over 600 games to choose from. Today's game giveaway is available from MyPlayCity, but it's had a name change to Word Game Deluxe

I purchased a second copy of Dead Space 3 from GreenManGaming last weekend with the intention of giving it to a very good friend of mine, but discovered he'd already purchased it. They have refused point blank to give me a refund. So I am going to sell it to the highest bidder. Any reasonable offer will be accepted. The game was released only last month and is presently £39.99 on Origin and £34.99 from GreenManGaming (with a 20% discount voucher). The code is an Origin code. Please leave your emails for me if you are interested and I'll email you as soon as I've seen your offer. If it's reasonable the first to offer will get the deal. There's a brilliant offer over at GMG with Bioshock Infinite. If you pre-purchase it you get two other games for free. The first Bioshock, plus a choice from several other games including Bioshock 2, Spec Op's: The Line, Civilization V, Darkness II or Mafia II, All these games are excellent. I'd recommend Spec Ops: the Line or Mafia II. If you like driving games then go for Mafia, if you like horror go for Darkness II. That said, Steam also have a brilliant deal on this game, with a free giftable copy of Bioshock, a free dlc, loads of TF2 items and if they reach the final target the latest game in the X-Com series totally free as well. GMG also have an excellent Indie sale on, with loads of decent titles reduced significantly.

There's a 20% off coupon that can be used with most digital downloads via GMG. You'll find all the deals from GMG HERE:

To be honest there are too many game deals around too list them all. Just visit the sites I recommend above and I'm sure you'll find something that suits you for a decent price.

The usual monthly free game from Alawars game box is now Sheep’s Quest! (though I'm still getting Sprill despite having deleted and reinstalled Game box) You may need to reinstall game-box if its still showing the previous game. It's supposed to change every month, but some community members are seeing the same game for months on end. Dido suggested that you reinstall game-box to fix the problem. Reinstalling game-box shouldn't affect any previous freebies. :). (You need to install the free Game-box from Alawar to access the free games, which for newcomers change approximately every month). If that's not enough, check out the Game Discussion forums HERE for details of other games either free or on deals such as the Indie Game bundles (of which there are at least four live at the moment, and all of which contain some excellent games - see below for links and details); or check out the four day sales at IndieGameStand.

The latest IndieGameStand game is Super Tower Rush (less than a day left before it changes) . You can pay less than a dollar for this game, but if you want the extra's (usually game music, manuals etc) you have to pay the average price which stands at $1.35. There's also several indie bundles over at Indiebundle.org. Each bundle has three games and costs $5 each.

The Bundle Stars: Fire and Ice bundle includes Tiny Troopers, Adams Venture 1 & 2, plus one more to come later all Steam keys. Airport Control sim, Darkness Within, Darkness Within 2, Firefighter plus another unamed title all Desura keys. Also If you missed previous bundles they are still available at a slightly higher price, but still bargains} over two weeks left on this deal (the best one IMO)

The Humble Bundle with android 5 includes Beat Hazard Ultra, Dungeon Defenders + All DLC, Dynamite Jack, NightSky, Solar 2, Super Hexagon all Steam keys plus drm free copies and music for most of the games. Just over three days left on this bundle.

The Groupees WadjetEye Games bundle virtually all of their games. If the bundles sell 400 the latest game will also be included. Only two days left on this deal.

There's a new Indie Royale: The Thoughtful Bundle now active that includes Snapshot, Cognition: Episode 2: The Wise Monkey, AaaAAaaAaa: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity (one of my favorite Indie games - I have an unreleased level editor for this game), Fiel;d runners and Snuggle Trucks.

You can get most of the above bundles for around $5 give or take a few dollars.

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
