I took advice of the MOD and downloaded and installed FREE Version of this game from "MyPlayCity" ... well it ain't FREE and if you like Pop Ups and Redirections ... then you can have this game.

I unistalled it immediately and I am hoping that MyPlayCity installer has NOT totally Crapped out my REGISTRY.

G!

It's a week later, and I've made it to America, and have half of the America levels done. And I think I might be stuck. THIS is where I direly need an untimed mode, because I get down to the last piece, trying to activate the hammer, and run out of time. And I know what someone else means about when the game takes off on its own, and suddenly that sequence you so carefully set up is stolen from you. Gaaah. You have to, in later levels, move the pieces above the walls to the left or right to an open column. That can be VERY difficult to do. And those levels where almost everything is double frozen? Oh, my.

Yes, it DOES need an untimed mode!!!

I've been playing this for a number of years, thanks for offering it again. It gets really hard especially when you start going around for the 2nd and 3rd time. Hard to stop playing once you start.

Very enjoyable game and some real challenging levels in it. As one other commenter said, it would be nice to have a relaxed mode for those particular levels (66 and 81 for me).

I managed to get my hands on and play "Call of Atlantis" before playing "The Rise of Atlantis" or this title "Around the World in 80 Days". I don't see how you call this game an upgrade to "The Rise of Atlantis", although it may be an upgrade to some game I always thought "Call of Atlantis" was an upgrade to "The Rise of Atlantis", but that's my opinion.

I won't give "Around the World in 80 Days" a thumbs down; it was an enjoyable game to play, to a point. But, after already playing "Call of Atlantis" neither "The Rise of Atlantis" or this title, "Around the World in 80 Days" measured up to "Call of Atlantis"

I will say that the one thing I don't enjoy about all of the "Playrix" titles, of this type, is that each one has a cheaty AI. Every time the game announces "Fantastic", "Incredible" or whatever else, it undoes anything I've already set up, and I know I just got screwed.

But, over all, I enjoyed this game, but only to a point.

Hi,

I had this, its a great game and for some reason just stopped working.

This is the second download I've tried with the new wrapper and on 2 different computers and cannot open them. Have tried shutting off Norton and still could n't get it to work.

Hope all enjoy it!

..........................Moderator Comment....................

Did you read any of my moderator comments above? There was a solution to this problem. sorry I didn't get back in time. You can get it for free from MyPlayCity (MPC). If you download it from there make sure you uncheck the boxes that will otherwise install toolbars and change your homepage and search provider. Also when closing a MPC game your browser will be opened to MPC's home page. but this is innocuous and not a problem; just close the page and you're done.

This is another gem from Playrix - once again it isn't brand new, but it's bright, colourful and very playable. I've had it on several computers down the years since I first met it, and now my current machine has been introduced to Mr Fogg and his companions.

The method of playing Match 3 games is well-known, but some are more difficult because it can be hard to tell the difference between pieces if your eyes are a little past their best. This game is easier in that respect, at least to my own eyes.

The graphics, as ever, are attractive and clear. The music is acceptable enough as this kind of music goes, although I usually turn it off anyway. The story is taken from a real book and so has a genuine storyline, although in some respects it differs from the original.

Although, as I mentioned, I've had this game on several different computers, I have never actually reached the end. But perhaps this will be the incarnation in which I'll get there! Well - I can always hope. ;-)

This is a phenomenal example of the "match-three" genre! Granted, it plays pretty much the same as other match-three games, like the "Jewel Quest" series, but the presentation is outstanding!

The graphics are the best I've seen for this type of game. The artwork is phenomenal, with scenery that goes from day to night, weather effects, animations, particle effects, and so forth. Excellent artistry all around.

The audio and music is effective and unobtrusive, and generally pleasing and relaxing.

I made it to level 60 (Japan), and the level design seems impossible on this stage. It would be nice if there was a way to destroy walls. Maybe I'm missing a key strategy, but I gave up in frustration on this level.

But overall, this is a great game, perhaps the best in the "match three" genre I've seen.

P.S. there is a sequence in the game that might be construed as RACIST in some quarters of the world. In the "India" dialog sequence, the protagonist says to the Indian woman, something to the effect of "you have the manners and intelligence of an English person." This implies that people from India normally don't possess the level of manners or intelligence of the English. Of course it wasn't intended, but some people, particularly those from India, might take offense.

My first match 3 was the fishdom demo. It got me interested and I found match 3 was up my alley. I got hooked on demos like Cradle of Rome. But this is my run away favorite. This was made by some of the same team that made the Atlantis games. I feel the atmosphere of the story adds a certain irresistable charm for me. I like the rain effect.
The games fun, the challenge builds up gradually till it becomes quite hard, and the background is interesting and appealing. What more could you ask? Some of the stages in the last section - USA - are particularly tough. The second level adds rocks, which significantly increases the difficulty. It says there are subsequent levels, but it's repeats of the second level. But that's 162 screens, so you get your money's worth.
Also the adjustable power up adds some strategy. You have to decide whether it's worth the time to go for an increased power up or whether you should use the hammer repeatedly as fast as you can. And wondering what powerup should be the best. In at least one level, the last and most powerful powerup is NOT the one you need!
I might change it so even though you get to keep your game points the second time around, you reset your lives to 3. That would make it even more challenging. The music is repetitive, but I think appropriate, so it works for me.
Charming, challenging, interesting. Again, what more could you ask? Even if you don't like match 3s, try this one. As with all Playrix, you can play the flash demo online. It covers the first two countries in the journey.
Of course, I'm biased. :)

Thank you for your feedback. It's much appreciated.

I think you'd really like the Puzzle Quest games, they have an RPG element incorporated. I've described it above in one of my moderator comments. Bejewelled 3 is also a great game.

It's a great game, and I just installed it on my laptop. But it sure needs a casual (untimed) mode for those of us who don't want to have to play in a hurry.

........................Moderator comment......................

Although the later levels do get aq little harder, the time counts down quite slowly. So far (third city) I've managed to complete each level with only a quarter of the time used up on the countdown clock.

Personal note to moderator: Still can't PM you, WR, so I don't know if it's fixed or not. I'll post to one of your threads, so you can reply to me if you see it. I can't tell about my other post, since nobody's commented on it. If nobody comments back, obviously, you can't tell if somebody's seen it. And you know I usually get a rise out of somebody. :) If nothing else, send me the password to that 2nd account and maybe I can get in that way. Since I never got that email, it's a dead account unless I can get a password.

Thanks!

P.S. I'm going to post here again now. This is one is about the game.

...........................Moderator Comment....................

You should be able to PM me. I've definitely got space on my account as I've deleted quite a lot of my older PM's. I've checked over both accounts and apart from the lack of information about your name and other details I can't see anything wrong with it. With respect to your second account, I'll reset the password to the State you live in plus the number in your email address so that you can then reset it yourself.

I've just replied to the post Mikiem started commiserating me on the death of my solid state drive (that stoped working yesterday). I've also given your second account a custom title (debater) hope you like it. If you want something a little more catchy let me know. ;-)

Normally, i get bored very quickly with match 3 games since they are all basically the same and tend not to be challenging. This one, though, is different. I really enjoyed it! Not only that, it allowed me to get lost in it for hours. That doesn't happen much with these kind of games. The install was easy, no problem. The graphics are great and the play is challenging. Great game!

..........................Moderator Comment.....................

You should try the puzzle quest games. They are match three combined with an RPG element. Each set of matches gives youvarious bonuses such as potions, magic spells, attack amd defense bonuses and gold that enables you to purchase power ups and upgrades. The match 3 element is basically the means to an end (sort of like the dice). :)

In 99% of the giveaways the Themida protection is useless or not needed. Most giveaways use the standard trial installer you can download from the official website. If there is an activation.exe there was never left something behind someone could use to reactivate the software later so the bloated Themida setup is not needed (with Themida the setup file also is a lot larger than with the old wrapper, even activation.exe is now about four times as big as it was with the old wrapper, old wrapper about 1MB activation.exe, new wrapper about 4MB). There are very rare opportunities when Themida could do any good. I didn´t see any of these since Themida protection started. In this very rare cases the company made a special setup file with a full version that does not need activation.
Most games came with a self-extracting Winrar EXE file. What´s the Themida protection good for in this case? After extracted you can save the content and build your own self-extracting archive if wanted.
GAOTD should choose wise to use Themida only when needed.

.......................Moderator comment.......................

In some cases you are correct Ralf. However, I don't agree with your figure of 90%, more like 50 to 60%. There are quite a large proportion of giveaways that come with a dual activation and setup module.

Quite a few of the giveaways are actually specials created for the project, so the registration codes provided will not work with the official demos that you can download. Though as you already know some will work. As for the converted Temp files (to exe), they contain a registration activator combined with the exe, so they can be installed and registered just using the converted temp file. As for the rest it's not appropriate to discuss it here suffice it to say Themida does protect those giveaways where you get a dual activation and setup file, which as I say are in the region of 40% of the giveaways we receive. Those with a seperate activation file that come with an unwrapped set up file are yet another form that the themida isn't really needed, whether they use it on that file I don't know.

I installed this game onto Windows 7 HP 32 bit at first try, no trouble at all. I use Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus.
This is a very slick game, with quality graphics, and its clear that a lot of time has gone into it in every way. Very impressed.
This game will be getting a good test, but I can see it's really a keeper. Thanks very much to the author and to GAOTD.

I have this for free at FreeGamePick; I find that games from there are inobtrusive, no ads, they do however open their site after you exit a game - not a huge problem.
Thank you GGOTD!!

Private message for moderator:

WR, my forum account's still broken. I can log in and post, and I can see them, but I don't think anyone else can. And they eventually disappear and I can't even see them and they disappear from the statistics and my profile page. I only tried posting a couple times in the last year, don't come much anymore except for the games. But I've PMed you frequently just as a test. That's another indicator that something's wrong. Every PM I've sent you doesn't go through. I hit submit and get a screen that says, "You are not authorized to write private messages. Are you logged in?" Well, of course I'm logged in, or I wouldn't be able to see anyone's PM links in the first place.

I changed the password on it, to see if that would reboot it. Edited the profile, too. No luck. And I don't know any way to delete the account and start over. Here's my last post:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/12835#post-104896

Can you see it?

I finally decided to try and start a new account using a slightly different name and another email. But the activation email was never sent. ???

I know how busy you are, but if you get a chance one of these days, could you check? I mean maybe my address has been blocked by keymaster or one of the other moderators. If I've been banned, that's okay. I won't make a fuss. I'd just like to know. Or maybe there's a problem with bbpress. Here are the accounts:

the original -
watcher13
watcher13b@yahoo.com

the new one -
watcher13b
mediaman13a@bellsouth.net

Maybe I messed up the email on the second one. Sometimes I leave out the "a" after mediaman13. Maybe that's why I never got the reply email.

You can email me on either one of them, if you don't mind. No hurry. When you get a spare moment, of course. I'd just like to know. Hope you're doing well.

Thanks,
Paul the Watcher

Giveaways have been less frequent and repeats, wasn't themida supposed to do the opposite? You can't expect people to trust something that refuses to be analyzed by their antivirus. And btw, can't those who want to share the program illegally still use software that monitors what files and registry keys are added to their system?

.............................Moderator Comment.......................

I'm sure there are always devious ways around any security. Those familiar with searching through registries can usually find ways of extracting serial codes and installed applications and games can still be copied, butThemida does make it harder and not everyone has the knowledge to do it. It was too easy to extract the TMP file from the temp folder during installation which when changed to an exe file could then be installed at the users leasure 24/7

With respect to trusting; what I'm trying to say is the actual giveaways can be trusted. The giveaway team have proven to us that they care about our security by throughly checking all giveaways before they are wrapped. Now they are taking more care of the developer as well.

As pavid said in the forums, if you don't trust the giveaway team what are you doing here downloading stuff from the gieawayoftheday.

You'll have to forgive my lack of moderation today. My Solid State drive in my new computer died on me yesterday after only six monnths of use. I've been trying to sort other drives but have been having difficulty installing Win 7 on any of them once installed. Also most of my other computers are either off-line due to upgrading (basically in bits) or my children are using them. I don't like forcing them off to do my moderation, so have been waiting for the times they are off doing other things. Only one computer will allow me to actually log into my admin account which has made it more difficult as it's the second best computer in the house so everyone wants to use it. ;-)

That said I will endevour to moderate whenever I can.

If you are having problems please check all of the comments here just in case a fix has been posted or alternatively follow my link in my comment at #1 where I link to the FAQ's section over in the game discussion forums.(It's near the bottom of the review in the Problems and fixes section of the review)Thank you.

Is this the same version already given away several times? Then i´ll pass on this one. Don´t need more of this crappy Themida protected stuff.

.......................Moderator Comment......................

Why do you say its crappy? all its doing is protecting the program from being ripped off. The actual security software (i.e. Themida) is not malware and does its job remarkably well. If you can trust the vendor who is using the security software, in this case The giveaway team, then there's no reson to fear that malware is being packaged with the download. It's when you don't know the vendor that problems could arise becasue Themida is so good at protecting whats inside it that unscrupulous persons have used the software to hide malware, which can then safely get past any desktop computers defenses.

With any luck, the fact that the giveaway team are using this security it may give us the oppertunity to try even better software and games once the news gets around that the giveaway team have sharpened up their act with respect to protecting the developers property. You've got to remember we are getting full version software for free that would normally cost anywhere up to a few hundred dollars. I think the most expensive software we havve been given over the past six years was over $400.

I would like to thank Playrix and GGOTD for this game. I still have it on my old machine (XP) but didn't have it on my new one (W7).

It installed and ran fine. It does place on icon on your desktop for those of you who hate not getting one. :)

The game is similar to the 'Atlantis' series in that you match 3 in an effort to move pieces of objects to the bottom of the screen.

It's a good match 3 game and worth a download if you enjoy them.

Thanks again Playrix and GGOTD. :))

Well, I thought it looked like a nice program and I now I know it is. It turns out that since I use Norton, and it has a virus protector called "SONAR," that certain files in this game were considered to be unsafe. My brother showed me how to briefly turn off SONAR, download this game, and then turn SONAR back on again and the game downloaded and works very well. I really do like how nice and bright the colors are, and while it is similar to Rise of Atlantis, it is definitely a different story-line and I believe I shall enjoy re-reading "Around the World in 80 Days," while playing the game at the same time. Thank you very much for a nice game!!!

I've downloaded & tried to install this game 4 (four) times...each time I get: "File is corrupted..." error. [Dell Precision T3400/Win 7/8GB/1GB-I update my drivers weekly (every Sat)] I've noticed under 'comments' that no one else is having this particular pblm, so it must be something unique to my system. Any suggestions anyone?

Check the FAQ's section over in the Game Discussion forums. I've linked to it neat the end of my review at comment #1.

If you are getting the message while trying to unpack the wrapped setup file from the zipped file it's likely to be your archiver that's causing the problem. I and several other community members have come across this particular problem. Please try using a different one. I've listed at least 10 different freeware ones including 7 & J Zip. in the FAQ's section.

I d/l this game on my iPad2 a while back. It's a great game with one flaw. No "relaxed mode" option (no timer) for us old farts. I'm 59.
I don't do well with timers. :(

This looks like a very nice program, and while I have been able to download and play programs like "Rise of Atlantis," for some reason I just keep receiving a message stating that something called "we29" or something similar has been detected, removed, and then the game does not download. Too bad, I like this type of game and so far I have enjoyed the couple of games I have downloaded from your site. I liked your review, and took note of where the game originated from so perhaps I will be able to go their site and get this somehow. It seems to have very nice graphics, and I like that the screensavers are pictures of the different countries. I will look forward to your next game, and hopefully my computer will be more cooperative in the future. STORM

Hello Storm, the reason the file called WE29.TMP is being deleted is becasue it's been wrapped with a new security program called Themida. The file is actually a temporary file that is created when you activate teh wrapped setup file. It is these TMP files that have been taken from the Temp folder and converted into exe files and then distributed on peer to peer sites. Now with the new security it's not possible.

So far the only way around this problem is to temporarily turn your security off or try and install the game in Safe Mode (with networking). I've already posted comments about this issue above. Please read my replies to a few other users. Thank you.

Very happy to see any of the Playrix games, new or old. I got this from the game giveaway a few years ago on my old XP desktop. Now it's on my new Win 7 laptop and runs fine - just won't do wide screen. Would be completely thrilled if you can get more Playrix games. They are the best! Not only have the giveaways been great but their customer service for purchased games is excellent.

Thanks GGOTD and Playrix!

Thanks GGOTD
I had this couple of laptops ago and loved it although the last couple of levels scare me as I keep losing lives and don't want to start the whole game again :-(
Thanks Whiterabbit for a good review. However the YouTube video just tells me that it "has been removed by the user" (Me???). What's up with that?
I will be downloading it today.
I missed getting a game yesterday and would have been happy even with just a screensaver. The one I realy miss is the clock with all the gears working. It might have been Astro Gemini (couple of laptops back).
Thanks again

Thought I would see if you were still using that horrible "wrapper" or whatever by downloading and installing this as I lost it when I got a new computer. IT'S STILL THERE. Darn.
If Norton's removes this sonar thing, will this wrapper be gone and the game be intact? I do not want to risk putting your wrapper on my computer.
Has anyone sacrificd a computer?

Create an image before you install so that if anything did go wrong you'd be able to revert. That said, have you seen anyone actually complain that something has gone horribly wrong with their computer after installing a giveaway since the new security was added?

Please remember Themida is not malware it's a security measure there to provide security. Unfortunately it does it so well, hackers have used it to hide malware. You can be assured that the giveaway team ensure that all software is safe before it is wrapped. Once installed the wrapper is discarded and is not installed onto your computer like some would have you believe.

Finally, why do you think Themida is being used? It's to protect the property of the developer. You could guarantee that within minutes of a giveaway being given away the software would have been cracked from the wrapper (to put it bluntly) and place on peer to peer sites where it would then be available 24/7 for anyone to download and share. That has probably put many developers off giving applications and games away. The new security measure will hopefully reinvigorate the giveaway project. Those that refuse to download because of this new security are in the main basically cutting off their own noses to spite their faces becasue of a mislead belief that Themida is malware. (lol)

Fascinating game with beautifully drawn graphics. As an artist, if the graphics are bad then no matter how the game play is done will matter. Nice wallpaper/screensavers. I had this from the previous GAOTD offering and had a very hard time through the final levels. Challenging!

Once again Playrix saves the day. I've just moved over to a new Win7 64b machine from my dear old beater XP and didn't have any GGOTD. I'm thankful to have this one! I enjoy a good Match 3 game and this one makes it better as I also LOVE a good Jules Verne book.

I had no trouble what-so-ever with the install of the file. The graphics are gorgeous. The music is decent. You read along with the story line of the book until you begin Day 1. I do have minor issues with dialogue. Well being used in place of We'll and capitalization here and there. They've obviously spell checked but needed someone to read back through for a grammar check.

I'm running a 1920x1080 widescreen, so it could just be me, but I do see that some edges are over enhanced while others are blurry. Some of the words and letters appear fuzzy in the book while the pictures are perfect.

There is a time limit but that works for this game as it IS a time limit. You have 80 days to get around get around the world so you will have one day to get the pieces you need to begin travels, etc.

So far I'm only up to the first 4 days or so and doing a quick test of graphics, interface and whatnot for review. I really think I'm going to enjoy this one and I may even start the book over again as Orchid mentioned. :p (Weird that I feel like Peter Falk in the Princess Bride "When I was your age, television was called books." Which is totally not true, I'm 35.)

This was a fun game to play and highly addicting! I enjoyed many hours playing this but couldn't solve the last puzzle. Very enjoyable and the little extras make it stand out from the rest of the match-three crowd.

I was delighted to see this game up on GGOTD this morning. I haven't had it since a HD crash last year, so I'm immediately snagging it again.

(Gotta say, whiterabbit -- and I do say this with all fondness and appreciation for your reviews -- your quote, "I’m not really a big fan of match three puzzles, (apart from Treasures of Montezuma, Four Elements, The Rise of Atlantis Sky Bubbles Deluxe and more recently Alchemist’s Apprentice), plus a few others..." makes me think you're a little fonder of match three games than you think you are. 'Cause, I mean, Dude. Including today's, that's six-plus games.

(I am utterly a fan of match three myself, but they've gotta be sterling ones. Playrix variations, Bejeweled 2 and the Puzzle Quest games keep me very happy.)

HaHa, you got me there filkertom. :) I do love a good match three, but I fear, like most great games they have been tainted by a long succession of inferior copy cat games. I probably have well over a 100 match threes in mt library of games, but of those only 10% of those were actually worth purchasing. Maybe not being a fan of match threes was a little strong. ;)
