WR: Oddly, after examining the link at post no. 64, it would appear that GGOTD has changed even more-so than I thought. Now, I am quite happy that I was not able to install this. - Mr. S.

Cant run the program no freemium can make me down my shields.
As much as i understand the need to guarantee it can only be used one day this is the worst DRM i seen in my life .
It will backfire more and more people will refuse to download, enough people very willing to take over the dominant position "Give Away"has.
Be smart fix this wrapper or take the shortest straw in the long run.

In the end free loaders load free ,for you "Give Away"workers its a job.
It might sound negative but if i did not care i would not even take the time to make a comment.

You must have posted this at the same time that I requested no more posts on this issue. Please post this over in the blog post that I've linked to above. The more users that complain the more likely something will be done about it.

Installed fine for me on 7-Ultimate x64. However, I need a security software upgrade right now. I'm running bare minimum protection. I have a suspicion about the "monitoring" error, but - because I'm posting so late, I don't think it will do anybody any good. I hope to post earlier tomorrow, both here and in the blog, but I suspect this may be a problem that is going to require a wrapper rethink as I believe there's no easy fix for some of our patrons.

In any case, I'm starting to sour a little on these Wheemplay games. I'm wondering why this developer doesn't get a little more ambitious. Then the games could be sold for more. However, this one has a little better graphics than some of the Wheemplays - Rob-Rob comes to mind - though that crude look was probably intentional. Anyway, I have the following observations:

As WriterBob said, sound setting doesn't seem to control the banging much, I can see where it might get annoying.
I agree with takiainen, the repetitive spinning could get to be bothersome to your hand.
I could only control the machine some. I'm having a little trouble unconsciously slightly picking up my optical mouse more than I intend to, which causes the cursor to skip across the screen. I caused the machine to blow up at least once. I'm not sure if I'm going to find this game interesting enough to master the movement.
Program needs to be run as administrator or pressing Play or Survival does nothing, even on the web - I had to start my browser as administrator. I use a limited account for security reasons. UAC has never really annoyed me that much. I don't know if the need to run it as admin. has to do with the current version of flash. Some of my old Wheemplays didn't need it, some - like Winterball - did. Certainly, I agree with those in the past who have said running as admin. for a game should be avoided when possible.
The bad grammar doesn't bother me that much, but, if the developer put some time into it, the Wheemplay games might not come off looking so slapped together. However, I can see where some might see the bad grammar as "disgustful". That drew an LOL out of me.

I agree with you Whiterabbit, some of the Wheemplay's present interesting movement physics challenges - they mostly all seem to be about that - but can't manage to see why sprucing them up a little wouldn't be in the developers best interest. After all, some of the more graphically attractive games given away here have had a flash demo for online play that was close to the quality of the original. These seem to be more of a pastime than a serious attempt to sell games. Interesting ideas need interesting presentation to be taken seriously. Unfortunate, but true.

Themida:

Turn off ALL YOUR SECURITY.

While, by necessity, REMAINING ONLINE to install/activate GOTD!

Themida:

Too unsecure, I won't turn off my security, to install a free program, and lose loads of money(I dont't even have)to id theft, or a new comp.

Who's idea was this?
To prevent using the GOTD on a different day, by demanding that we compromise our own security? We have far more to lose than a few people getting the GOTD on a diff day!
To ensure no one wants to use it at all is what you are accomplishing.

This is sad, and unlike the GOTD I knew :(

Thanks For posting it Whabbit I tried to post on both the Forum and the Program give away. It has been posted a half dozen times ever since 5 PM and they still have not approved it. You are the only guy to approve it.

Thanks for approving its posting on here. I feel better knowing others can see what I have to say. I also feel better to know I am not the only person with this annoying installation problem.

Until GAOTD goes back to the other wrapper I will no longer be able to install any of the games or programs. I just can not safely allow my machine to run with out my security programs running in it's defense.

Thanks whabbit for your great reviews, I might be back if GOTD starts using a safe wrapper

Posting this here due to moderators refusing to approve it on the GAOTD Forum for the PageFlip PDF to Flash Converter & in the GOTD wrapper is updated Thread. I wonder why they refuse to approve its posting?

I cleaned up all language and removed the links to alternative software sites. There should be no reason for them not to approve it now, other than perhaps they hate to be insulted and called out for using the new Themida wrapper.

Below This is what they refuse to approve and let be posted on the mentioned forums.

This Downloaded program also refused to run. I get the following pop up error and Windows alert sound "A monitor program has been found running in your system Please, unload it from memory and restart your program." I turned off the Agnitums Security Suite Pro 7.5 program I have running. (Which finally stops my AV from deleting the setup file as a virus) I turned off the Iobit Malware Fighter Pro that was running it too reports the new GAOTD program as suspicious.

Just in-case these programs where interfering with the install I also turned them off. Advanced System Care pro, Iolo System Mechanic. Anvir task manager & start up monitor, Process Lasso & then last but not least, I turned off my PC's system restore. After I turned everything off & trying to install the programs in safe mode, with just the network running. Even, After trying that install on this Windows XP Pro SP3 edition PC, failed to install.

I tried to install it a couple of times where I left my computer completely vulnerable to the Internet. Something I am loath to do, after doing that to try & get this program to install, it still wouldn't work. I tried a few more times because I wanted yesterdays media browser & todays game & PDF Flash converter. I got to the point where I was starting to swear at the machine & the program. I had to finally give up on installing them as a lost cause.

GAOTD Your new wrapper has failed me & left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I have given up on it. I had all the Same problem's today that I had yesterday. I decided to post a complaint about it on here today. Because I have the same errors that everyone else is. I give this a big thumbs down. Plus I give the GAOTD programmers and the tech team a thumbs down due to their choice to use the Themida installation wrapper. A program THAT could be being used to hide anything they want from our av scanners.

The old program wrapper worked about 90% of the time for me I was pretty happy with that. I would rather have a program that installs & works on my Computer 90% of the time, than a wrapper that wont let me install anything at all. I am so disappointed in this. Why wont the program wrapper work on my computer just what is preventing it from installing I have shut down every possible secondary function & then some to try & get it to install.

This probably spells the end of my coming here & of my telling my friends to come here when GAOTD has some software i know they would be interested in checking out. I will no longer promote GAOTD on the blogs & forums I post on. Nor will I advertise it via E-mail to my friends. & this is why I wont be doing that anymore. GAOTD can no longer be trusted as safe site to use. If Hackers, Virus Programmers & Malware distributors like to use Themida to hide there malicious programs & codes. What is stopping GAOTD from distributing Malware, spy-ware or some nasty viruses on to my machine with out my knowledge?

I am sorry GAOTD Project team I can not trust you or with a good conscious recommend for my friends & family to come here for all the free games and programs that we used to get here. =( if this program wrapper wont work for me or my friends & I can also see many other posters complaining about it.

I wonder just how many others are in the same boat that I am but they don't bother to post a complaint about it. I wonder GAOTD just how many will walk away instead ? I absolutely refuse to try anything else to install the games & programs. Because of this mitigating facto r as soon as I restarted my Agnitum security pro the Downloaded file was removed from the folder & quarantined plus Outpost popped up a report declaring it as suspicious infected file & wanted me to send it in to Agnitum for further study.

That was even after I had approved it to run on my PC by adding it to A.O.S.P 7.5 exclusion list . My outpost security software really does not like the Themida wrapper you are now using. I will go back to playing the free on-line games instead of using the downloads from here they are not as good as having them installed on my PC but it is better than nothing. As for my need of trying out new programs I will have to settle for what I can get from other sites instead.

While the other software sites will not have as many free programs as the GAOTD site does they do offer some great free programs from time to time not to mention the daily software they do give away is being done with a wrapper I can trust. One that is not masking the files completely from the AV Scanner I use to protect my PC. If My AV is triggering & deleting the program wrapper as suspicious again I am sorry ... but your program has to go.

While these other software sites might not have the same quality of daily programs that you guys do they at least are using a installer that works on my PC. I have posted this complaint numerous times & yet it is still not been approved it seems to keep being deleted? I wonder why that is ? I think the sites moderators don't like my insulting GAOTD. It might also be being deleted because I am bad mouthing GAOT D for their use of the Themida wrapper. Something that many Malware & virus infested programmers like to use to hide their content.

TL/DR

I really, wanted yesterdays progam & todays game. The Game give away & the Daily Program give away I downloaded have both been deleted by my antivirus scanner as suspicious.

I clicked to add them as exceptions. So the AV quit deleting them. I then turned off everything possible & tried to install the game & programs. I Still end up getting a pop up error with the critical error alert sound

The error reads as follows

"A monitor program has been found running in your system Please, unload it from memory and restart your program."

Not a bad game, but no longtime motivation =DD
The grass seems to cut off into a white screen sometimes (1920:1080)
and the timer in one level runs out, but it says 15 minutes, then.

I apologize for not replying to many of your questions regarding the Themida issue. Unfortunately I have no control over this and have no solutions as I was able to install the game on all of systems I have working at the moment - a couple are offline being cleaned and updated at the moment so couldn't test on all of my computers; (despite already having the game I did decide to reinstall just to test whether I had the problem. not that I would have been able to have solved the problem as I'm sure many of you are more capable than I. but it would have given me a clearer perspective on the issue if at least one of my computers had not installed the game).

The blog suggests that users AV software may be picking up the problem, but as yet it's not clear which AV software is the problem.

The fact that I was able to install the game to three separate computers and a lap top (1 x Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Quad Core i7 3.4GHz, 1 x Win 7 Dual Core Athlon X2 3.2GHz 1 x Win 7 Pro 64 bit Dual Core Athlon X2 3.0GHz with dual boot Vista Home Premium SP2 64 bit and XP Pro 32 bit plus a laptop with Vista Home Basic 32 bit single core 2.2GHz ) I'm sure it's not a hardware problem as each computer is set up with different hardware (Graphic Cards, Sound Cards etc)' Despite the obvious problem with Themida there has still been over 3000 download which would indicate a good number of users have probably got this game working. Generally users only post when they have a problem, or they are regular contributors to the feedback. So I'm assuming the problem is software oriented.

All I can suggests (seeing as I'm shooting in the dark, not having had the problem myself), especially for those who have tried the free online browser version and have decided they DO want this game; is to initially go into Safe Mode with networking. This will ensure all background programs essential to windows running or getting on the net are not stopped, but any other programs that may be causing the conflict are. If the game then runs in this mode it will indicate that a software issue was the cause.

Once Arcanorum is installed you can then restart your computer as normal and it should work with no issues. :)

I won't moderate any more comments relating to the installation/Themida problem, as mentioned above please direct all comments to the blog, which is covering this issue.

This is a dumbed down, budget priced game of Hammerfight! It is a ok game, but I will more than likely uninstall it within a week. Not because it is a bad game, but because of the repetative nature of the game play. I have played it in two sessions today, and it is becoming less inspiring already. I rate this game a 5 our of 10.

I have never had a problem with installation here until now. I tried Mike's suggestion re deactivating antivirus. That resulted in the infamous blue screen of death and several hours to get a reboot. I will check back tomorrow morning with hopes that someone with real computer savvy will solve this.

Perhaps GGOTD should take the vast number of thumbs down (a notable number for GGOTD) as an indication of people's frustration. That frustration is quite evident in the comments above.

Update - still no joy...

I tried again and disabled AVG (free version), ASC (6-month license version from GOTD), IMF (again, 6-month license version from GOTD. AND I've disabled this both piecemeal AND wholly), as well as Windows Firewall, this time...

But it still bawls about 'a monitor program' - Surely, if such a program is so problematic, this Themida ought to search out (and tell us) its NAME!? Then maybe we could decide whether to disable THAT program, rather than being left guessing...

I don't have a problem with the Themida based wrapper loading setup files into memory and it's easy to understand the reasons behind this new setup routine.
But I'd like to add there's often more to unloading from memory than closing a supposed monitoring program .You might have to reboot or might have to close still running processes in the taskmanager/or even stop services.

So I'm afraid this is the worst decision the team ever made for us average joe users and many of us won't even bother with future giveaways.
I don't see people going through hoops, reconfiguring their firewall or proactive file monitoring tools just to get a giveaway.

How about a list with the 'monitor' programs that are blocked by Themida ?(lol)
Too bad is had to come to this.

But I'm sure the TEAM will reconsider and find a plausible solution,so stay tuned y'all :)

Downloaded and installed just fine for me, Vista 64-bit. I'm sorry if I repeat anything that others have said, I mostly stopped reading the comments when I saw they all seemed to be about install problems.

The game's okay. The graphics look all right. Music and SFX are good. The gameplay is different and gave my mouse arm a workout.

Would like to see the shop and the power-ups or bonuses explained. And maybe I'm just bad at the game, but would want better ways to regenerate health.

The spelling and grammar are awful in this game, and the dialog isn't great. I don't like that there's minor profanity in it because it has a YouTube comments feel to it. I don't mind somewhat coarse language in general, but this was silly and childish.

I'd recommend they take all their text and go out into the internet and have someone proofread and fix it all. There are a number of people who would do it for free, and they'd all have a better grasp of the English language than whoever made this game.

Meh, 6/10

@ #34, Mike,

I understand from people in the know, Themida is also the perfect 'cloaking device' for malware.
Not from GOTD of course, but if this is correct, malwarescanners will stop all Themida-wrapped software from installing in the near future,
wether it contains malware or not.

OK let me add my 2 cents worth here. I haven't downloaded this game because I did the last time it was given away and after playing it for a little bit I didn't like it and promptly deleted it. So didn't see the need to do it again. As such I don't know anything about this new "wrapper" program, but I will say that I refuse to turn off my firewall and anti-virus programs just so I can install something new. To do so leaves yourself wide open for trouble. So if the new GOTD & GGOTD are offering these offerings to us but have it set up so that we have to turn our protection off then I say that is very bad practices indeed. My question is just how many of the users have actually been able to circumvent the 24 hr rule, and indeed how many have even tried????? I think if the moderators are indeed watching and reading the comments you can see that you are going to loose alot of your followers. Is that really something you want to do? Anyway I will get off my soapbox now. Thank you.

The Monitoring program that Themida is most likely referring to is possibly real time virus protection (scanning on accessing a file or directory) To have to turn this off to get the program to install is INSANE these days. I know that it is unlikely but now, if someone hacked GGAOTD or GOATD, and replaced the file with malicious code, turning off AV, or Malware Protection, would give them free access.
It boggles the mind. I love GOATD, but this seems like a strange move. Hopefully they will get the 'memo' before many others leave and discontinue using GOATD since there are other like sites out there. The only positive thing about that would be not having to see that irritating cat begging me to 'like' them on facebook.....Arrrghhhh :).

Closing programs should however (but it obviously didn’t).

Themida inside the wrapper displays this message as it ‘feels’ being watched by some monitor program. There are als many incompatibilities with Themida protected programs. I guess it has to do with some kind of incompatibility in this case. Stopping the firewall and malwarescanners could help too, but is not an option for security reasons obviously (that would be a weird way of installing stuff as this were to be a requirement).

Anyway, that's not enought :(

What are the control keys ?

Mouse is :)

I get an error (every time, even after downloading new (yes I cleared the cache)):

"C:\Documents and Settings\******\Local Settings\Temp\we2B.tmp is not a valid Win31 application"

Each time I run setup.exe the file name in the error is different, and occurs right after the Giveaway "Activating" splash. Considering several are posting errors and your using a new wrapper, it can only be the wrapper is not working correctly.

I checked the file shown in the error message and it has a file size of 2.42 MB (2,539,520 bytes) (the setup.exe is 15MB) with the Company set as "giveawayoftheday.com", File Version as "1.0.0.11", Product Name as "Giveaway of the Day" and Product Version as "2.0.0.0".

I can not give any positive or negative feedback to "Wheemplay ltd" as the installation from Game Giveaway of the Day fails to even complete the installation...... Major thumbs down to today's offer on the Giveaway of the Day side, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

People not realizing that the installer is from Giveaway will thumbs down "Wheemplay ltd" not realizing that the actual install problem is with the Giveaway of the Day, and this will result in loss of potential customers for them. Sad......

Return to the old wrapper and release again please......

Wheemplay ltd, demand Giveaway of the Day release with the old (and working) wrapper.

Downloaded and installed fine to Windows 32bit HP.
Un zip program I use is 'NCH Express zip'.
Installed ok, no problems at all.
Ran every stage 'As administrator'.
There are some worrying pauses during installation, but it all went ok.
Game is controlled by mouse, but I didn't see that mentioned.
Seems fast and smooth, and good fun spinning the hammers around to hit the enemies and get points...not easy though...that's good.
I have been looking for a gravity type game for some time, this is different, and the graphics and sound are suitable to make the atmosphere different from a space game. Really quite impressed.
This is one I know I will keep on having 'a go' at. Thanks to all, Author of the game and to GAOTD.

#3: "Great, now the Games Giveaway site is using the godawful new Themida-based wrapper as well."

RE: Themida being so terrible, I've yet to see anything to back up those sorts of claims. Themida is designed to prevent someone from cracking whatever DRM an app uses. Since the wrapper is temporary, run once just to unpack the app/game installer, there are no permanent changes to Windows or your hard drive etc.

* * *

#7: "Tried to run setup and got this error – “a monitor program has been found running in your system. Please, unload it and restart your program”…. I don’t think so!….."

From reports I've read that's likely caused by your AV software. Apps like Themida & UPX can be used by black or white hats, & because both hide what's inside an executable file etc., AV software has a hard time telling the difference, whether it's a legitimate program or malware. So far I've not had any problems with the GOTD wrapper using the Security Essentials Beta, for whatever that's worth.

* * *

#9: "Once clicking the setup file, this message appears:”A monitor program has be found running in yor system. Please, unload it from memory and try to restart your program.” I have closed everything, antispyware, antimalware, firewall, even antivirus but the problem remains."

*If* the message you're getting is correct [there are only so many error messages coded into whatever, & as such they don't always apply], closing a process & clearing memory can be 2 separate things, so you might have parts of the wrapper & parts of your AV software both stored in RAM. Also it's hard to turn off AV software by design -- if it were easy for you it would be just as easy for an exploit.

Maybe you'd want to post your AV software particulars in the forum -- it might turn out that all or most of these problems are caused by one brand or one version etc., which would tell everyone involved whom they have to talk to, which company so they get the AV app(s) fixed. Someone else might also have figured out how to turn it off to avoid the problem.

I can install and start the game but I can only change the options, I can't get the game to play at all. What are the control keys ?
Even though the game is free I still expect it to work.
I'm running XP fully updated and even disabled Kaspersky just in case it was blocking the gameplay for some reason.

HELP !!

The game is controlled by the mouse. you move the weapons by making a circular motion with your mouse while moving the mouse cursor to move the ship.

Add me to the list of those with problems. I'm guessing the problem is our anti-virus software. I think Themida is seen as malware by Norton (yeah, no comments about it, please, but it came with the compuer).

Installed just fine, Vista 32bit. Good game, tried online, too slow, good on installation.

Fun for short periods, worth the download, thanks GGAOTD and Wheemplay!

Good Morning Stephen,

I just wanted to say thank you for the tireless work you have done over time to make the games section so good. This is my last visit to GGOTD as well as GOTD.

The inclusion of THEMIDA is unacceptable to me and it is time to move on as I am sure many others will. I can't see how GOTD can think this is a good business move. Their worry that people might be able to circumvent the one day only install as a justification doesn't hold much water. The amount of people that would know how to do that is very small.
This new install wrapper could be the worst business decision I have ever seen a company do.

Good Luck to you all and thanks again for your fine work Stephen.

Joe

Unlike the previous comments I've read, I was able to install, activate, and play the game without any issues.

I've played this game online for quite a while (wasting far too many hours.) The only downside of this game is that despite turning off the music and effects, the inter-level sound effect and the power-up sound still blast loudly.

All in all, it's worth playing, despite that.

The old wrapper was just fine! Why did they change it? (Can't get it to work either... Tried in VM too)

Anyway, the game itself is pretty good. I don't understand the bad votes. The annoying thing is that you can't really control the speed of the hitting thing. I still have this from last time :D

Note to mod: It's not 20011 yet!! Arcanorum was originally given away last April 20011.

Well it installed and seems to run ok on my system (win 7 x64). A side effect seems to be that World of CryptoPics will no longer run. Also the only way to exit the game appears to be to close the window.

not my sort of game, but reading I see a line from a sci-fi book I've recently reread...."like waking up with someone else's fingers in your mouth". Nice to know there are still sci-fi readers out there! LOL
Can't remember which book it was in, have been weeding out my books by rereading to see what I just have to keep. May have been a Lafferty.

White Rabbit, the new wrapper uses Themida. It is designed to stop other programs that monitor the installation to saveguard internal coding from backward engineering.

DEP-settings (#4) don't help you out here. Closing programs should however (but it obviously didn't).

Themida inside the wrapper displays this message as it 'feels' being watched by some monitor program. There are als many incompatibilities with Themida protected programs. I guess it has to do with some kind of incompatibility in this case. Stopping the firewall and malwarescanners could help too, but is not an option for security reasons obviously (that would be a weird way of installing stuff as this were to be a requirement).

Installed just fine on Windows XP w/SP3 machine.

So far the game is nothing exciting but a little interesting as you learn how to use different weapons and tactics. It strained my antiquated graphics card a bit which slowed it down (I was playing a DVD at the time too though). Graphics are decent enough and the tutorial is adequate to get you started. So far it's not awful but nothing great to write home about either.

Neat little Game , I had no problems with the installer what so ever .
The SFX archive extracted the .exe to C:\ Games .

I don't know if is because I have WinRar installed on my machine or not those experiencing difficulty with the wrapper might try the 40 day free trial of WinRar to see if it makes a difference :)

You can get it here . http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Hope this helps .

Thanks for this game Wheemplay and GGAOTD .

Ozz .

Installer stops immediately and says "A monitor program has been found running in your system. Please, unload it from memory and restart your program." So a no-go for me. Oh well...

No problems here, opened with 7-zip on Vista (32bit).
Funny game, might lead into irritated mousehand tho.
