@23 - The controls are the classic PC controls:

W = Up
S = Down
A = Left
D = Right

If you like metal music, you will like the music in this game. There is an option to turn it off. It's better than the Zombie game Sony gave away to people for getting hacked and shut down for so long.

The graphics are good. I would definitely add stuff to it from missions to variety of enemies. It would be nice to be able to zoom out a bit further.

Good game if you like the genre.

I agree with everything @23 B.m. suggested. Being able to move would greatly enhance this game.

I guess I'm one of the few who really like the soundtrack btw. :) (you can turn it off in options)

Downloaded/Installed/Registered without a fault on my Win7x64 machine.

OK downloaded and played ok. On a older computer it runs kinda slow so I would guess it uses a lot of resources. Not sure if I will be keeping this. I was able to get to the 3 level but again seems to run quite slow. Also wish you didn't have to use the keyboard to move forward or backward. You can use the mouse to turn and fire. should be able to use the mose to move as well or have an option for gamepad or joystick (do people still use those??)

A fun little game to pass the time. Similar to other games offered here but different enough to be fun. Of course any game I get that actually works for me is a bonus.

Thank you !

Thanks. Ok Win 7 x64. Either screen size, the ESC key failed since I have it bound to a HotKey. Task manager to exit. Nice comments & WASD tip. Funky graphics. Dead end game play. Kids thing so not fair to rate it as adult. Guess 8/10 if 6 years old. Rest, YRM Vary.
Enjoying Egyptoid2.

Perhaps a good way to curb negative voting would be to provide access to the voting window only after the download is installed when the usual HTML return screen appears... just an idea.

It would be nice if all the games you offered here on a regular basis, are also fully compatible with "Windows 7 64bit Operating System" and not just up to "Vista".Other-wise,there's no point to receiving your free game offers,if we can't download and play them on "Windows 7 64bit".Please try to correct this oversight in future...Thank-you...(P.S.)This looks like it could be a good game, but I won't risk it on my operating.Sorry.

I'm having the same crash as Marius (Win XP SP3), but was able to play after I disabled the music.
Still get a crash when I exit the game afterwards, but that's much less bugging.

Unfortunately, my graphic card can't handle this game (and all recent games built with Game Maker), so I can't test it. But it's nice to see Fly Games here again, and also using a different engine (they used to use Blitz3D). Though I wish that they, for this game, would not have put everything into a single EXE. An EXE that is more than 10MB is sort of unsightly. So no, you can't change the music without somehow decompiling and rebuilding the game.

In other news, I discovered that there is a level editor for Stars Ashes games. Yesterday's Egyptoid 2 has one, and so does Bee Adventure (which uses Stars Ashes' engine). For newer games, a general rule of thumb is to press Backspace-F7. (Bee Adventure seems to just use Backspace.) Unfortunately, it looks like the editor in Egyptoid 2 is somewhat defunct, although the code is there. You can only switch between environment mode and enemy mode, and no other keys work.

Oops, I forgot. The Music and sound needs a leveler. I had to make it windowed to turn down my volume. I liked the music but the volume was way too high. On or off..just doesn't cut it.

ROFL, I have to agree with Friendlygamer(1 of the videos). The best part of the game is the music. It needs a help big time to let you know how to control it, what the weapons do and how to use/get them. Once you figure that out..It's Zombie Murder for the win. The mirage is a reflection of your weapons over the screen so it kills more..guess what??? Zombies. They just keep coming and No Story that I can see.

So If you are in the mind to kill something after work..etc..you can really let off the steam in this game. It is a..basically mindless gory killing spree of either you or the zombies. Which had you rather it be???

Perfect for Halloween. Thanks GGOTD and Fly Games. And thanks to that Wrascally Wabbit for his review and teaching me to experiment and try new games. If it weren't for him, I would be safely playing a Match 3 game instead of taking on a horde of chainsaw welding zombies.

@Arche Kruz Just did a google search for you and all I can find is...One other site, which will remain nameless, that has a RED Wot rating. Spam, virus, rootkits...you name it. I, also, found Playcity and LOTS of torrent sites. Nothing legit, that I could find. Don't know what to tell you.

There are lots of free horror, Halloween games being posted in the forums. Should check them out. Chazzo has been a busy haunting man trying to give me nightmares.

Now I need to check out this game. :)

P.S. add a storyline. A damsel in distress. A last stand. An abandoned town, something. And make your menu page better for widesreens and full screens. I have both types for some weird reason.

Add a help menu to explain the game. Also Can you move in this game. If you can, can you tell us how and give the option to configure the key setting/map. I would not mind using the arrow keys to move and control to shoot, use the move to move and shoot or a mix. Also, add a brightness setting. Maybe even add a shop in the menu, and add a money value for each zombie, but make it low, and increase it with the difficulty of each new monster/zombie.

To Moderator: Yes, I like GameHitZone.com for this too, those things (toolbars and the other) are really annoying when playing games from MPC.
Also if you like Halloween Night Riddle's gameplay there is another game with a similar game mechanics, Last Conundrum of Da Vinci Deluxe, http://www.gamehitzone.com/download-free-games/last-conundrum-of-da-vinci-deluxe/

@ DaBayer - Yes, that has been a problem here for some time now. Some people vote thumbs down simply because they didn't get the game they wanted. They don't bother downloading the game and giving it an objective review. If it isn't the puzzle game or breakout game they wanted, they vote it down. It's ridiculous if you ask me, if you don't try the game, don't vote. ;)
-----------------------------------
I have yet to download the game but I plan to later today when I have more time. It's not a genre that I have played much of so I want to give it a try at the very least. :)

Very nice simple game! The sound design is pretty awesome, especially the machine gun sound and the BGM. If there is anything I would say to improve this game, it would be a more complex layout for the levels, more music tracks, and a score system.

Cheers!

I have a question though, where is the page for its sequel? I would like to check it out, and maybe buy it. I am definitely not touching MyPlayCity with a 10 foot pole.

Cool game, but not for me. Thumbs up for the game.

I am puzzled with the large number of "thumbs down" votes the game has received given the ratio of negative comments to positive ones.

If I were the developer, I would assume that these persons only want free stuff and it has to be "right for them" at the beginning. Unfortunately, it dooms the consumer to more of the same or the developer tweaking wildly trying to find the magic combination.

As I said; cool game, but not for me. I am personally not a fan of the genre. But, please, keep up the good work!

John

#7: "Those Play City games are loaded with “ASK” toolbars and such, whether you choose NOT to install or not. It keeps trying to install anyway."

With many games Universal Extractor [ http://legroom.net/software/uniextract ] will work to unpack the setup files, or install 1st to a VM & copy the game's program folder -- with VM's I keep a backup copy of the virtual disk & copy/paste it over the one where I installed whatever so it stays small & lean. Most of the time un-checking the box or boxes, opting out of the toolbar etc works in my experience, but sometimes not.

There wasn't a help screen or any instructions. At least not any I could easily find, hitting the Escape key pauses the game and asks if you want to return to the main menu.

To move you have to use: WASD keys and to turn in place your mouse, mouse buttons to fire. The thing on the right side of your screen is your health bar. Glowing circles with letters in them appear after killing the zombies, these are items (F=Flame, C=Crusher etc...) and they disappear after a short time if you don't pick them up.

During the 2nd(?) stage the word Mirage popped up randomly(?) and blue lights flew around but I don't know what it did. I noticed I got different weapons even though I didn't pick any up so I'm not sure what's going on there.

After I used all my lives I was given the option to restart the level - with 1 life.

If they included a help screen with instructions and explaining which the bonuses/weapons were, it would be appreciated.

All game giveaways are checked throughly using several of the best security packages. No giveaway in the last five years since the project started have contained malware. what you are seeing is almost certainly a false positive. If there was a real problem loads of users would have alerted us by now. As it is you are the first since the giveaway started almost five hours ago and there have been a few thousand downloads so far.

Those Play City games are loaded with "ASK" toolbars and such, whether you choose NOT to install or not. It keeps trying to install anyway.
AVOID.

..................moderator comment....................

It's a pity MyPlayCity have reverted to using such tactics. for a few years you couldn't play MPC games without acceptng at least a tool bar or a home page hijack. Then they cleared all of that away a ew yars ago and you could install all of their games witohut having to install anything. seems like they are reverting back to their old ways.

There are still some of their older games that don't have this problem, but it seems like the latest ones all install or try to install a Ask/MPC tool bar, which i did warn about in my post above.

I am very dissapointed when I downloaded the zombie game. I wasted money and for nothing. When I ant to play the game, windows informs me the game has encountered a ploblem and needs to close. Please supply games that work in your free givaway section. How can I spread the word to my friends if the games do not work. Thanks for nothing!!!!!!

......................Moderator comment.......................

Marius, The game works absolutely fine for me, also there have been a few thousand downloads of this game already and you are the only one complaining that it doesn't work; which would indicate a problem with your computer and not the game itself. I've installed it to four different operating systems and it's worked on all four with no glitches.

Sorry you feel so hard done to; however, posting a comment in such a negative fashion isn't the way to gain help from the moderators or the community.

What message did windows give with respect to the 'windows has encountered a problem?' message? If I knew what it said I may be able to make a more informed suggestion for you. Please read the help section above the review @ comment #1 for possible solutions to your problem.

Thanks to Fly Games for the Give-away today, and thanks to GGotD as always :o)

This looks like the sort of game that I could quite enjoy, a bit like R.I.P. trilogy and Larva Mortis (a previous GGotD giveaway) which are both favourites of mine.

I like shooters generally and the weapon variety and graphics are pretty good - certainly better than the other examples I mentioned. Unfortunately from my brief time playing so far, it seems to be lacking a little... I kept feeling like something was missing.

Running around killing zombies is fun in it's own right, but there seemed to be no point beyond that. No motivation or plot to speak of, and a general sense of chaos - enhanced by the music, which really grated with me (thankfully music is easily disabled in the settings and presumably changeable by swapping the relevant audio files).

It also felt like the weapon acquisition and usage was also somewhat random - there are glowing circles that give bonuses (life, weapons, explosions and maybe others)when run into, but the weapon bonuses are timed and run out, and at other times I seemed to get a weapon for no apparent reason. This all means that your weapon is changing frequently, but it made little difference because I was just running around firing almost constantly anyway.

There is no particular place to go, or direction to head in, and the zombies appear to come from all directions.

So I inevitably find myself running around in a small circle, shooting in all directions, with a weapon that changes every ten seconds or so, at an endless army of easy-beat but numerous basic zombies along with progressively harder to kill varieties.

Definitely worth grabbing IMHO if you like this sort of thing, I think I'll find myself returning to it frequently - but probably for short mayhem sessions in-between other projects rather than a game to get absorbed in.

.....................Moderator comment................

Exactly right WobblyWombat, that is i agree with you 100%. i'll also be keeping this one for the odd bit of MDK, though it's not the best of this type of game. The fast game play will inevitably see those who play this type of game finish it fairly quickly considering there are only 30 levels.

Agreeing with both Hans and F150Girl ... great game for Hallowe'en, graphics look pretty good but sadly my reaction skills are almost nil so I don't play shooters.

This is a fantastic choice for this weekend though and it looks like it is a fun game for those that like to shoot ;)

Thanks for the thoughtfulness to both GOTD and Fly Games :)
Also thanks to White Rabbit as ever and Hans for their write-ups and links to other games.

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen

Problems installing, activating and running today’s gamel>:

If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following - for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” Check to see if your internet explorer isn't offline (thanks to MrSnoozles/Mike and GMMan for that fix). If the previous suggestion doesn't work go check out previous comments from the last several weeks and look for comments from GMMan and Mike. They have also posted their possible fixes for this problem.

Mike suggests that you check to see if Internet Explorer is offline (even if you use firefox). If it is make sure that it's online thn try again. I’ve always tried re-booting my modem and/or router with some success, though Mike has said that doing that does nothing. Still, it’s worth a try if all else fails.

If you are getting the black screen problem right click on the games executable and select properties then click on the compatibility mode and select the disable visual themes. This should fix the problem, if not try disabling the display scaling on higher dpi settings and disabling the desktop composition.

Other fixes include changing your screen resolution, installing the latest direct X (remember that XP uses DX 9 or earlier only, Vista uses DX 10 or before and Win 7 DX11 or before). Also try updating your graphics drivers. The main two chip manufacturers are NVIDIA and ATI both of which offer driver downloads for free. Just go to the respective manufactures home page and you'll find a link to the driver download page. To find out which graphic card or graphics chip your computer uses type in Dxdiag in the search field (Vista or Win 7) or the run command (XP); this opens up the DirectX diagnostics panel. click on the display tab and look to the left panel. You should easily see what graphics card or chip you are using. (This is required information when selecting the correct download from the developers site).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installationl>:

Zombie Murder downloads to a 49.3MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and dual activation and set up file (for those that are new to the game giveaway project this means that once the game has been installed it should automatically register. If you have any problems please read the problems section above. If you still fail to get the game to work, you can get this game from MyPlayCity 24/7 together with the sequel called Zombie Murder 2: Hell Arrives. (I’ve posted links at the end of the review in the alternatives section.

Once installed you’ll have to create your own shortcut so make a note of where it installs to. To delete the game just manually delete the games installed folder. You won’t find the game in the uninstall a program section (add or remove in XP) .

The Gamel>:

Today’s game giveaway is a top down zombie shooter with excellent graphics and loads of different weapons to use to try and keep your character alive. Fight through 30 progressively harder levels using several different weapons ranging from your usual guns through to rocket launchers, flame throwers, plasma guns and death rays as well as bombs . If you’ve ever played Nation Red or one of the many Alien or Zombie Shooters, you’ll know what to expect with this zombie hordes style of game play. Basically you are a lone character protected by a futuristic robot like body trying to survive endless swarms of zombie hordes that will follow you around the games arena. You get a decent selection of weapons to shoot these slow moving zombies. Beware though, for if they touch you too often you will surely die , thankfully when you lose all of your lives you get the option to start a new game or carry on where you left off. Zombies range from your average looking zombie, through to chainsaw wielding zombies and giant zombies that wield massive clubs. As you’d expect these are harder to kill, so avoid them if you can. Apart from a generous supply of weapons that appear as glowing circles you can pick up extra lives, tohugh I think you are limited to only one extra live because I picked up several while playing yet I only re-spawned once after I’d died before I got the message to restart.

I’ve posted some videos of game play which should give you an idea what you can expect plus a load of offers that are available via steam at this time check out Didamatic for deals from other providers such as GOG, Direct to Drive and Impulse. There’s always games for sale these days, but the ones I’ve listed over on Steam are specifically Halloween orientated. You’ll find some amazing bargains on some triple A games as well as loads of arcade games. 

System Requirementsl>:

• Windows 98/ME/XP/Vista
• Pentium III processor
• 256 Mb RAM
• 50 Mb hard drive space
• 32 Mb video memory
• Sound card or chip
• DirectX 7 or higher

Conclusionl>:

If you like the old Alien shooter and RIP games you’ll love this game. It’s more on the lines of last year’s Nation Red zombie shooter. If you don’t like colourful zombie shooters, then you’ll probably hate this. Personally I’d rate this at a decent attempt to emulate the best of the top down shooters, but it’s not got a lot of substance other than manically mashing your keys to survive onslaught after onslaught of largr than life zombies.

If you want something mindless to do for a while then this is definitely a game for you.

I’d score it a 6.4 based on the scores below, tohugh personally I liked the game and gave the game play a 7 out of 10. The score was lowered due to it’s lack of originality replayability and audio (which would be a little too heavy for the average user, plus the sounds were all or nothing)

Game play - 7
Graphics - 8
Audio - 6
Re-playability - 6
Originality - 5

Alternativesl>:

Generally Zombie Murder is usually around $7, but you can download it for free 24/7 from MyPlayCity. when installing MPC games be sure to uncheck any toolbar or home page hijacks. that said i installed a game yesterday and even tohugh i unchecked all of the check boxes I still ended up with a MPC toolbar, though it only seems to be the most recent additions that do this most games are tool bar free.
