Other than taking an hour to download on DSL and it took another 5 minutes to activate the game, no, not a three hour download. But you do have a point, today is a holiday and many people are off so maybe they are on the net which of course does affect the flow of your download.

Welll... I've learned to figure around any downloading/activation differences, and find my own shortcut. But this game... I guess I wasn't smart enough to figure out what the commands are. Tried keys, mouse... nothing would move. And after a few minutes of trying, I didn't even care. Offfff it went, with all it's space-grabbing and lack of instructs. But thanks anyway, GAOTD... I've got a whole folder of great games from you.

I downloaded and installed Zombie Smashers X2, about 10 minutes into the game my screen went white, and nothing worked. When I pressed Ctrl/Alt/Delete to bring up the task manager everything on the screen was sideways. Thank God for XPs Restore program or I would have been in big trouble.

I didn't even like the 10 minutes of the game I got to play. I have never had this happen before.

Why is it the largest download ive ever seen on here *by almost 3 times* is on a day that every public place that has high speed internet is closed. :) Ill have to pass since im on dial up and every source I have for faster intenet is closed.

To bad this wasnt yesterday and yesterdays download wasnt today.

This is stupid. I finally downloaded the game, then when I went to activate/install it the Activating... window has been sitting there for 3 hours! I turned off my firewall before starting, so I know it is not that. I have installed many games from GGAOTD with no problem. I am wondering if the servers are having trouble on the activate. It took a very long time to get a response on the download. Anyone else having a problem activating?

Like i said previously i think it would be nice to have a shortcut option on the desktop which it appeared they tried to do that but for some reason it didn't work :( Other then that it is an ok game nothing i will be keeping for a long time though, but keep up the good work and thank you to both GGOTD and Merscom :)

Whiterabbit--Many thanks for the pcworld link.I've just downloaded Cloud, which is beautiful. Somehow, the atmosphere reminds me of a very old adventure game called 'Loom', which is one of my all time favourites.

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I can hardly even get the page to load up. Out of 12 tries, I have gotten the page to load 5 times (taken 10-12 min each time) and all the downloads have failed. I cant imagine that it is that busy, but *shrug* guess I will keep trying. Before anyone asks, yes I have DSL through the cable co.

Now, this is the first giveaway that I've actually considered impressive. I don't have anything against the other things I've seen but they've mostly been the usual dull indie game Breakout and Match 3 clones and the like, with the few exceptions being of questionable quality.

I have little doubt that this giveaway is being facilitated by Merscom, but the company that actually made the game is called Ska Software. They are awesome. This is, in essence, a River City Ransom clone with more options and a really crazy sense of humor. It was well worth the $20 I originally spent on it, and for you folks to have a crack at it for free...well, you are lucky suckers indeed.

This game is a change of pace for this website from all the abstract puzzle offerings, but that doesn't make it not terrible. I can't believe there have been so many thumbs-ups for this.
The basic graphics would be acceptable if this were a kid's 10 MB high school project, but at 271 MB (installed), and for an ostensibly "commercial" game, they are an insult. The characters are nicely drawn in a cartoony way, but the backgrounds are one big muddle of grey sameness. In the same vein, the gameplay involves interminable walking around bland environments with fits and starts of uninteresting, unstrategic, untactile fighting.
"Zombie Smashers" might be a passable time-waster for those who are not demanding or discerning, but anyone who has ever played another side-scrolling beat-'em-up will tire of it very quickly.

A bigger download than I am willing to take right now, so I guess I'll pass. The comments were not encouraging. I do agree, however, that the stupid Dwarf games are getting pretty old.

However, I'm still not complaining about the price even though I cannot reinstall if my crumby computer allows the files to get corrupted. (OK, OK, maybe its the crumby computer operator!)

Still, thanks, GGOTD. I am still enjoying many of the games I got from you!

I was directed to this site recently by a friend of mine, who posted a link to GAOTD on the forums we administrate, and impressed by this initiative as I was I have been checking it daily.

I'm not a fan of puzzle-games myself however, nor am I the least bit interested in any of those damn "Brave Dwarves -- Beating A Dead Horse packs", so I was pretty stoked to finally see a slightly more adult-oriented "kill things"-type game such as this one, the story and review of which managed to pique my interest despite the file size, and music (which, as stated, takes up an inordinate chunk of said download size) being nowhere near my taste...

So I went and downloaded it right away, feeling somewhat excited towards the end...

Having completed the download and installed the game without incident, I'm really disappointed to find that I'm actually unable to play the bloody thing. See, when I go to double-click the .exe file and fire it up, the game appears to open fine and my screen turns a pale grey: But no sooner than I get ready for some lovely, mindless, pixelated wanton violence, I'm immediately interrupted by an error message which reads [ahem!];

"Run-time error '-2005532632 (88760028)':

Automation error"

Does anyone else who's attempted this game experienced any similar such error? Anyone have any ideas as to what the cause might be, or how to correct it? Yes? No? "Bugger off"?

Sorry I can't offer a comment nor rating on the actual game itself, but this is the best I can do given it's as close to playing it as I can currently get.

At least if the developers pay any attention to the comments left herein, they may be able to intercept such errors in their software (assuming of course it is indeed with the software, as I'm inclined to believe) in future and spare those who pay for their games this nuisance...

Cheers anyway, to GAOTD for this service, and my fellow patrons hereof. ;)

This is an OK game. Kind of a huge download for the passing interest it generates. Even my 4 yo grandson got bored with it in a short time. I did not notice any glitches. But, then again, no one here has cared to play it for very long. Those graphics as just _too_ retro. And, ther is too much music. someone offered thier opinion that there should be a version with less music - I agree.

I've just followed a link from one of the comments over on the giveaway page and came across the following link:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,131325-page,1/article.html

That gives you access to 15 free games. I've not had any malware warnings with my security system (F-Secure). Somewhere amongst that page you'll find a link to the top 101 freeware applications. Check it out. I've already found a couple of games that are worth keeping (IMO). The pages are a little cluttered with links, but you shouldn't have any problems. :)

http://www.reflexive.com/ZombieSmashersX2.game

Read the reviews. It says it all. You have those that love it (even with the bad graphics) and you have those that hate it.

I myself don't care for the graphics (80's punk rock cheapo game style)
The music...130 MB or half of the total install is huge. If you can't recognize bad programming then so be it.
The other half of the install isn't exactly spend on fantastic animations and backdrops.

This game isn't for the grandparents or their grandchildren. It isn't for the adults. Nor is it for the teen with serious gaming experience.
Which means that their target audience is real small. I bet that their biggest fan are their classmates and siblings.

If you want some serious mayhem action go here :
http://rockstargames.com/classics/wmc.html
you can download 3 games for free. They do come with a serious chunk of audio (music) but at least you'll have something that doesn't look as if it was drawn by a 4 year old and the music isn't just one particular style.

Sparrow comment #20. If you follow the path:

C:/games/ZombieSmasherX2

You'll find the executable file. Right click on it and scroll down to create a short cut and click, or scroll down to extract, then choose where you want to create your short cut for the game.

Unfortunately Merscom games come with a retro installer to, lol.

If you're a complete beginner with computers and don't know your RAMs from your ROM, go to the start menu, click on search, then input the name of the game into the search engines box. :)

I hope this helps.

You will find all Merscom games do the same thing, so if you've installed previous Merscom games and haven't found them yet, you will see them all in the path:

C:/Games/

Have a great day.....

A shorter than normal review 'may' follow later, (some will no doubt say hooray) depends upon how my packing goes as I'm off to Turkey for a few weeks very soon. No doubt I'll miss some good games, so i rely on you folks to give them a good bashing, so that I can decide whether to try the demo's as a prelude to purchase.

I've bought all those games I really liked following my loss of a HDD the other week. IMO it's the decent thing to do if you can afford it, so I want this project to survive for as long as possible. :)

I think after the holidays I'm going to start putting just a precis in the comments section and the main body of the reviews I write in the forums, with a link to the page. It's about time I started to use them.

Have a great July the 4th my American friends. :)

I love the music! The game play wouldnt nearly as good without the music. A game can never have to much music!! A 100 mb of mp3s isnt all that much. Most of us love the music, no matter how many mb it takes. The game itself is good too.

This is a pretty hefty dwnload for anyone not on highspeed.
One suggestion I'd make to the developer, offer a version without all the mp3 tracks, as they extract to 130megs. The total game install size is 275megs, so the music tracks take up a fair chunk.
Since you can substitute your own tracks in the folders and the game will play them, this would be a good alternative download to offer.
I haven't played it yet so I can't comment on that aspect, however the observation on removing the music tracks is something the developer might wish to consider.
