I'm off to the Midlands with my son for an open day at one of the universities he's interested in attending next year. He wants to study Pharmacy.

I will continue to moderate once I return later today. It's almost a three hour drive to the university, so I probably won't be back until this evening at the earliest. Please continue to post comments. If you find any problems, I will try to help when I return, though there are some excellent community members who have helped with problems recently. (Thanks in advance to those who do help)

Whiterabbit-uk, I realize you have a life but isn't it time you had someone to fill in for you when you have other things you have to do? What good are comments to the community if they haven't been approved so we can see them?????

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Marcy, all comments should be visible even before moderation. It would be nice to have someone else moderate. Someone from the team does occasionally pop in and if I've been absent they will moderate, but its rare for any questions to be answered unless someone from the community does so. I have asked in the past for help. A good friend offered several times, but i was told no. Sadly he has since passed away.

Marcy,
I can understand why you wrote what you did, but my feeling on this subject is "If you have to have a review prior to you simply downloading and installing and see what it is like for yourself, then I guess that is what you must do in general throughout life. Yes it is great to have someone give an opinion on what the game is about, but again, with what is below, I say taking someone to a college is much more important. Remember, if after downloading and installing, you can always uninstall. At least you tried it! Give Whiterabbit a break, that is of course unless you volunteer to help him with this project!!!!

Marcy,
Makes me sad to hear how cold some people can be. Give the man a break!

Mardel, i think all Marcy was pointing out was that if there is a glitch or tech problem, how will anyone be able to post about it - or have someone reply - as Whiterabbit-uk won't be about to read the queries, approve them and post them to the site. He suggested that we help each other, but this won't be possible without someone to moderate.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Wendy, since the site changed over to the new look earlier this year, all comments should be visible as soon as they are posted. The only problem with this is that if someone posts something inappropriate, then it will be visible until moderation has been completed. I have in the past asked the team if they would allow others to moderate. An old friend of mine offered several times, but the team were not happy to allow anyone else to access the admin panel. Access to this could mess up the whole site if it wasn't used correctly, for example, I could delete everything and totally mess up the site if I wished. Of course I would never do that. I was only given access after posting reviews for over a year. I hardly ever proof read the reviews I posted and consequently there were always glaring mistakes. I was first given administration duties over on the forums, and with that plus the regular reviews I think the owners trusted me enough to give me access to be able to edit my reviews. When the site changed from daily to weekends i asked for access to edit a particular review that needed several mistakes correcting and they decided to allow me to access the administration panel. As a thank you I then started to moderate the comments.

Things have been quite hard this year, with illness etc, and I have been undergoing extensive investigations, but apart from the DVT I think I'm virtually in the clear (though I do have a meeting with a consultant this coming Wednesday over an abdominal Xray I had three weeks ago, which I'm a little worried about). Over the past four months I've been on a self inflicted diet (basically just reduced the quantities of everything I eat, but still eat the same things) and have lost over two and a half stones (approx 16Kg) and am looking to lose another two to three stones to bring me back to the weight I used to be before my accident. So far things are going really well on that front. I'm sure with my weight loss, and the exercise regime I've committed myself to (mainly hydrotherapy) I should be a lot fitter over the coming months. I still enjoy moderating here despite the odd hiccup and with respect to reviews, a fellow giveaway community member has created a review site for me. That alone will keep me interested in continuing here for the foreseeable future.

OR are comments appearing on the site without moderation? I think my previous comment appeared instantly after posting.

Mardel, For crying out loud.... wasn't talking about HOW the game is played or what it is like - Whiterabbit does a GREAT job with that! I meant when there are problems installing the game or even downloading it with all the different configurations out there, that comments can stop us from getting a LOT of headaches in the process. This site is way too large for it to have a one person moderator that keeps comments hidden for most of the day. I realize it's all free and I've been coming here for years, but all things come up for a change/improvement at one time or another and having two people moderating here is way overdue, IMHP!

Marcy,
Too bad you didn't say that in the first place. You didn't say anything about technical issues just mentioned comments being approved or not.

Mardel, Wendy figured it out and I figured everyone else would get it too. Sorry, next time I'll spell everything out. :-(

Wendy, It will indeed appear to you right after posting and every time threafter when you visit the site with the browser used to post the comment. Would you however check with an alternate browser you will find the comment not visible until such time that it has been approved. Has to do with cookies, not the girl scout kind though

Hi Marcy,

"... isn't it time you had someone to fill in for you..."

I potentially agree, in the sense that I feel very badly that WR at times really pushes himself with poor health to maintain his presence here, not to mention his efforts reviewing etc. But I say "potentially agree" because there's no one else to take his place even temporarily. He combines tech & gaming expertise with incredible generosity, spending way more time at it for free than anyone could be expected to.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thanks for that info.

Wow then this is an amazing effort you're putting in and makes it all the more valuable and appreciated. My comment wasn't in anyway directed towards your efforts or meant as a criticism. They were only directed to Mandel as I felt Marcy's comment was misunderstood and I just wanted to clarify. Usually, I feel 'm the one being misunderstood so I wanted to come to her aid as I know she was just asking the question. Thanks for everything you do, Whiterabbit-uk. Your reviews are amazing, btw, for their detail and quality, especially as you don't proof-read.

.....................................Moderator Comment..............................

Hi Wendy, I took no criticism at all. The majority of the comment I added to your post was actually meant to be posted as a separate global info post, but I was being lazy. Today's dlc was just about to go live so I was in a hurry to be ready to post the review (basically a copy of the last time a dlc for Forge of Gods was given away with a little editing). If my comment came over as a criticism, it wasn't meant to. You are one of the few community members I have always valued as your comments have always been respectful and usually to the point. :)

Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike Weird Park: Scary Tales please give some feedback about your opinion of the game, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free.

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. If you prefer the game on Steam you can also buy all three games in the series via the Steam platform HERE. At the moment it's on sale with 80% off for £2.99/$3.99 £

The Game:

It’s time for another dose of psychotic circus performers! Weird Park: Scary Tales is a sequel to Weird Park: Broken Tune (all three of the series available as a triple pack via Steam, with 80% off this weekend), continuing the tradition of crazy locations and straightforward hidden object gameplay. After crashing your car outside of an abandoned town, you learn that mad Louis the Clown has trapped several children inside twisted versions of classic fairy tales. And you know what? The only person who can rescue them is you!

Weird Park: Scary Tales sticks to the well-established formula for hidden object games, placing you in a series of small areas blocked by locked doors, overgrown vines, busted machines and various other obstacles. You clear the way by solving puzzles using items gathered during your travels. Some key items can be found strewn about the landscape, but the bulk of the important stuff will be found by completing hidden object scenes. Once you’ve got an item you think you can use, simply click on your inventory and try it out. If it works, you’ll have access to a new area that’s no doubt ripe with more mysteries to solve!

games-10127-weird-park-scary-tales-screenshot21
games-10127-weird-park-scary-tales-screenshot61
Hidden object scenes in Weird Park: Scary Tales are frequent, and you’ll often repeat the same scene with a different list of items minutes after completing it the first time. Each one takes just a few minutes to work through, featuring a small list of items to find in areas that aren’t too crowded with debris. Red list items will need a little encouragement to be brought into existence, so if you see “photograph of an owl”, don’t look for a ready-made picture. Instead, hunt for a camera, find an owl, and take the photo yourself! Nothing too obscure or complex is ever thrown your way, it just helps liven up the otherwise stationary hidden object scenes.

A feeling you’ll quickly become familiar with while playing Scary Tales is confusion. The game likes to throw handfuls of puzzles at you at once, piling them on one after another with no clear solutions in sight. In most games this wouldn’t be too much of a problem. In fact, it might make things even more intriguing. Here, though, because the solutions don’t always follow a logical path, you’ll end up feeling lost most of the time. It’s the old “If I need to break that glass, why can’t I use the hammer in my inventory? Why do I have to hunt for a specific crowbar?” quandary, making it a daunting task to mentally catalogue possible locations you should try new inventory items. It’s a little frustrating, and the matter is made worse by the ineffectual hint system.

At the bottom of the screen a stuffed bear sits and blows up a balloon. When it’s full, you can click to pop it, activating a hint. If you’re in the middle of a hidden object scene, a trail of sparkles points you to an item to find. If you’re not, they lead to one of the many unsolved puzzles on your mental tally sheet. This is where problems arise: what the hint balloon tells you to do isn’t always what moves you forward. It almost seems random, and sometimes it’s downright useless. Once you’ve spent the hint and solved the riddle you’re often no further than you were a moment ago, still lost and confused and wishing that bear had bigger lungs.

screen1
screen2
Overall, Weird Park: Scary Tales is a middle of the road hidden object game. The production values are high and the game is free from technical faults, but the puzzles don’t quite fit together to form a coherent whole. The storyline is thin, hidden object scenes repeat themselves, and the hint system needs a few more IQ points. While it may not revolutionize the hidden object genre, it does provide a decent item hunting experience – though be ready to utilize trial and error to make it through some of the puzzles.

Edited reference accessed HERE. Original review written by John Anthony on Nov 12, 2012 Edited by Whiterabbit-uk 29th Oct 2016

There are three in the series, Weird Park Scary Tales being the second in the series. (see my note above regarding the trilogy being on sale over on Steam with 80% off i.e. £2.99/$3.99). The game definitely measures up to the first one especially in terms of its weirdness level... although this game takes a little warming up before you can totally appreciate its fine bouquet of bizarre.

The story begins one night as you're driving your hot rod car down the road, blasting some nice midi tunes on your radio. Sorry, I couldn't help it... the radio was blasting some weird music that sounded like an old Atari game theme song like Pole Position... not important to the story at all, but resulted in a moment of panic when I thought it hinted at what was to come.

As you drive into the night, you cross into the town limits of Fairy Gate Park, and suddenly... your radio goes dead. And then, the next thing you know, there's a creepy little girl sitting next to you asking you to save her. You naturally are so shocked by this sudden invasion that you crash your car headlong into a tree. Although... another side note... at the speed you were going, I'm not sure you would have easily walked away from that crash let alone gone adventuring after an evil clown... but that's just me.

The next hour or so will leave you somewhat confused as to what you're doing as you struggle with searching the abandoned and crumbling remains of Louis Gauche's home, but trust me, it's worth it. What you're looking for is a way into the fantasy realm where the children are caught in the stories. And there's where the true brilliance and excitement of Weird Park Scary Tales come shining through.

screen3
screen4
Through each story, you must put things to right in order to save the children caught in each world. So for example, you need to find Cinderella's glass slipper and return it to her... but she may or may not be stuck in her coach, which is now a pumpkin.

The graphics are beautiful, although I admit, the sparkling vibrant colors you discover in the fantasy world are much more enjoyable than the dark and dingy colors you have to suffer through in order to get there.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics were still impressive, dark and shadowy and chilling... totally appropriate for the story leading up to it. It just was nice to see the golden glints from Cinderella's coach or the rays of streaming sunlight on Captain Hook's ship, as opposed to the grime and mold built up on the remains of Louis' house.

The sounds and music were equally impressive, disregarding that one tiny flashback to the 80s we had earlier. There were short bursts of music from various instruments that set the mood just right for creepy. Chilling piano, mournful violins, the tinkling of chimes, along with random howls, soft snuffling, and the humming of machinery... all helped add to the bizarre flavor of Weird Tales Scary Tales.

Everything was adding up to a delicious stew of weird, except the actual gameplay. It was my one and only slight gripe about the game and the reason it's getting four stars from me instead of five. The hidden object games were ridiculously easy. I don't think I ever even thought about using a hint button. The puzzles were the opposite... a bit too challenging for my tastes. I couldn't wait until the skip button charged.

And what's with all the running around? Back and forth, back and forth, over and over and over again. Returning to the same hidden object scene again and again to find another item. And then some items that were lying around weren't able to be added to your inventory until something else happened. So you would get confused because you know for a fact you couldn't pick that item up before.

screen800x500
unnamed
The only saving grace for this aspect of the game was an exceptional hint system that told me exactly where to go and what to do when I didn't have a clue. I guess that means we're probably going to have to do a Weird Park Scary Tales Walkthrough... note to self... make someone else do it. The hint system chargers fairly quickly so you don't have to be shy about using it, and it doesn't use up a hint if there's nothing to do in the scene.

Overall, Weird Park Scary Tales probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you're a weirdo like me, and you adore the abnormal, you'll love it as much as I did. One note... if you haven't played the first Weird Park game, you might want to take a detour and play that game first since the same characters and story find their way into this one.

Conclusion:
I'm off to another university open day with my son shortly, so haven't had time to properly appreciate this game. At first glance it looks pretty good. No actualy conclusion today.

love this game, am about half way through and must say the graphics and gameplay are top notch, even if I do have to use the help button quite often, I found that when the first web page opens after clicking on the start icon, you can quickly close it and then the game starts very quickly after that

Well, I'm very glad that Sanniboui mentioned that he downloaded the game from the gamesite directly as I was not able to get it to finish downloading in time for me to authorize it before the time was up. I think that's the first time GGOTD did that for me. I did have that issue with a non-game app or two over the years but this one took so long to download time ran out before I could activate it. But I did get it from MyPlayCity and it's working fine. :)

The MPC and giveaways versions are basically the same game anyway. the only difference is that when you install directly from MPC you do have to make sure you've unchecked the check-boxes during installation. Those have been removed from the giveaway version. some MPC games have those check-boxes, or at least one of them popping up every time you boot up the game, but as I already had the game via Steam (I purchased the triple pack), I couldn't say for sure whether this will happen with the MPC version.

Whiterabbit UK - didn't notice any pop ups boxes but now my desktop is littered with icons from MPC. will have to go thru them to see which I should delete or keep. But the game is great fun! Thanks!!

There's usually one that takes you to MPC's home page, two online pames shortcuts, plus te shortcut for the game. Three of them can be deleted safely without affecting the game.

Maybe on the days WhiteRabbit cannot be here, downloads should be suspended. If they can't get someone to relieve him when his life calls, we can just hold off on giving out a download. I wonder how long people would keep coming back to check on the freebies? He not only needs a relief pitcher, he deserves one for all the hard work he's done for us and the website.

I do not like large downloads wasting my bandwidth, wasting my disk space and wasting my time...

the 1 Gigabyte download deflates to 3 times more space than necessary:
1. download zipped (1GB)
2. unzipped GOTD installer (additional 1GB)
installation (GOTD installer unzips to RAM/swapfile)
3. installed files (much more than 1GB)

needed time? ! ?

verdict: I directly download from myplaycity - 1 small downloader, direct installation

Sanniboui, So we don't even need to download it through GGOTD?

I tried the download from here, did take a long, long, long time; opened the downloader twice tho I only clicked the exe file once; never did show up on my computer despite my choosing where to unzip the file and its saying the download was complete. I then tried the one from the game website and while it is less than a gb, it's been downloading for nearly twice as long and still not done. I have very good internet, DSL, and this is a PERFECT reason why we need a moderator at all downloads. :'(

Installed well on Win 7 x64. Lovely graphics! I wish it were a bit more straightforward as a HOG, since it's requiring lots of secondary items to open up and/or use other items, but so far I like it.

Several of the last MyPlayCity games that I have downloaded all open up the same game from a few months ago-Odysseus. This is even from going right to the directory for the game and clicking the .exe file for the game.

File takes forever to download and when finished it is an archive file and cannot be executed as a game.

Thanks for nice looking graphics. But passing since have played many of these and can't spare time to deal with this aspect mentioned in the good review. Will wait for something I can pick up, put down without so much digging around. Happy Hallow!

"MyPlayCity" with a "Big Fish" Link: Huh? My favorite places to buy games are "Playrix" and "Alawar", but I have bought games from "Big Fish"; they are way safer than "MyPlayCity". I have played a game in the "Weird Park" series; I don't think it was this one, but I did enjoy it. The review over at "Big Fish" gives it pretty good ratings.

I am SO mad at AVG! The "new and improved" version doesn't have right click anymore to temporarily turn it off, so you have to go all the way into the program to disable it. However, I STILL can not get the game's installation window. All I get (3 tries now) is the activation. I really wanted this game too... oh well, I guess it is goodbye to GAOTD and it's wrapper.

Follow up:
I was tired when I tried to get this game last night... I forgot I can get from MPC directly, so doing that today. However, since my AVG sub ends 11/6, I canceled the auto-renew this morning and I am switching from it to another AV/suite in the next few weeks. Seems AVG also wanted $30 more for it so it was a good decision. I will probably go with (go back to) the totally FREE Comodo. I hope it lets me install Game GAOTD files without disabling every time.

Yay a HOG of course I had to download it, which happened in 10 minutes and installation went without a problem under Win10.

I find clowns scary since Stephen King's It but in time of the season and clowns trolling outside in some places (not here in Switzerland as far as I am aware by now) - this is it.

Beautiful graphics, easy game play - I like it - thank you very much.

How do I launch the game? It did not create a desktop icon, nor can I find the installation folder. HELP

Reply   |   Comment by Tim  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Tim, The main folder will most likely say "MyPlayCity", but since there was a link for "Big Fish" try that too. I'm assuming you are running a newer OS so it will most likely be in x86 Programs. Hope that helps. If it's in XP then it will be in "Program Files".

JonE, I do have a MyPlayCity.com folder, however only previous games are listed in it. I a using windows 7 BTW

Reply   |   Comment by Tim  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Tim, My first recommendation is to download and install a FREE program titled "Everything"; yes, that's the name of the program, "Everything". Everything will find anything on your computer and it's blazing fast; it takes a half minute of so, depending on the size of your drive, to index your drive, but after that results are instantaneous. You can find it at "Softpedia" or just about any other download site.

Second: did you check your C:\ drive (whatever your main drive is) to see if it installed it directly to C:\ instead of the Programs (x86)?

Lastly: Check your "Add or Remove" Programs to see if it's registered in there. Maybe you use a program like Revo, IOBit, or Ashampoo Uninstaller then check there. There is a FREE program by "NirSoft (NirSofer)" titled "MyUninstaller". I don't use it for uninstalling, but it provides a wealth of information about the programs installed/registered on your computer. And if there is a program registered on your computer it will be listed there.

If you still can't find it the try installing it again. Good Luck . . . . . . .

Win10 64bit Home. I got this game back in June this year, cant remember where from but it is a good game and played well. Loved the story line and I also have Weird Park: Broken Tune. There is a third one out Weird Park: The Final Show and I am hoping GGOTD brings that one out soon. *wink wink*

Thank you to everyone who has commented. If anyone has problems installing the game, please follow the link I've provided in the review that takes you to the FAQ's thread over in the Game Discussion sticky section. Apparently the issue many were having with last weeks game is not global as some community members were able to progress to the end of the game.

Don't forget the Zombie Shooter game is still live. At the moment those who have added extra entries every day stand at least a 25% chance of winning a key for that game. The deal ends on Monday morning. Tomorrows game is another Steam key that is unlimited. All I can say is that it usually costs just under £7 to purchase, so is worth getting if you are into the genre. Only 9 more hours to find out. :)

not giving a Thumb because it's not that I don't think the game is worthwhile - I would certainly grab it if I didn't already have a bunch of (supposedly) better (in terms of playability not quality) HOGs already... that I have yet to play.

this game downloaded quickly, no problems installing it (win10 laptop).
One of my favourite types of game. I am enjoying playing it
To improve it, would be great to have a map for quicker moving between scenes as there is a bit of back and forth needed.
Also, as usual with these MPC games, it takes too long to open and opens my browser when I finish, which I understand is part of the 'freeness' but still a bit annoying.

Hopefully, my comment is useful! I have this game, having downloaded it directly from My Play City a few months back. I have shared before that I used to dislike HOG type games due to their difficult to see dark graphics. This one is not bad - I haven't had any trouble seeing what I need to. As for difficulty - I'd personally rate it medium. Not too easy, not frustratingly hard. I did have to start with this story-based HOG genre with a few easy games, to get an understanding of what had to be done to progress, but now I'm a fan!! I haven't yet finished the game, but do still check in from time to time. I'm also not super savvy about the technical stuff - plus being new to the genre, I can't really comment on the "graphics quality". I just know that it is easy enough to distinguish the items in the shadows, so I would give the graphics a thumbs up for that. (I have attempted to play, and rejected, games that I had to resort to using the hint button for nearly every item, and still not able to distinguish what to click on even with the hint.... resulting in wasting clicks and murdering my mouse! - no, can't tell you the game names, this was some few years back, which originally turned me off HOG's.)

You KNOW my eyes light up when there's a Hidden Object Adventure Game! But I'm still VERY leery after last week's disaster---people couldn't get beyond a certain scene, the problem apparently existed for a couple of years before, yet we were offered the buggy game, and no responses from developers when people started posting here about it (or apparently to the two years of comments on other boards). I know I might not like a game after downloading it, but I do kinda expect that anything offered here is both safe (which so far they are) and working (or at least not with KNOWN issues). But I just can't resist and will probably download this one now, check back here in a while for issues reported, and install it if either there are no reported problems or it gets late. Grateful enough for the games I've gotten here to be willing to be a guinea pig :).

Also, Marcy, I think I understand where you were coming from: not at all disparaging the great job WR does here, but merely saying that we count on others posts to alert us of problems (and maybe solutions) and it would be great (and fairer to WR, who deserves a life ;)) if there were a 'backup' mod sometimes just in case.

Just want to add that this one installed fine and is playing fine and is a lot of fun! Hopefully no issues like last week. I see WR has added a note saying the issue wasn't global, but lots of folks reported it, and elsewhere on the net in the past. I don't usually have difficulty with games from here. Thumbs up on this one!

Weird Park: Scary Tales
A HOG with puzzles and a spooky (but not scary) theme, just in time for Halloween..or the US election, whichever you prefer ;) A BIG download, but as usual with MPC games it installs well. A bit simplistic and more geared for the kids it seemed to me, but a nice visual game. HOG's are not usually a favorite of mine or my daughters, but she seemed to get into this one a bit more than she normally would a HOG, and it will stick around to see if it continues to capture her interest.
The hint feature is a blessing, as some items and or actions are quite challenging, and would like to see a settable scale for them, more settings for kids or people who need them, less for those who don't.

Unfortunately the setup can't be installed because of "key cannot be decrypted.
What a pity after an hour downloading. Hopefully another download will be provided today or a rerun tomorrow.

I understand it will be later today until the comments will be moderated, so it will take some time to find out if I am the only one with this problem.

Drive safely Whiterabbit and don't hurry home because of moderating comments about a computer game!

Please excuse the very late reply. been out all day. The error message usually means something is conflicting with the giveaway installer. Usually it's the anti-malware suite. If you temporarily turn off your security, or configure your security to allow the installer to run, the game should install. The reason some anti malware suites block the installer is becasue it contains Themida code, which is used to protect the executable from hackers. Unfortunately Themida code can also be used to hide malware. so some security will automatically block it becasue they can't read what is being wrapped. Since the game giveaway started back in Dec 2006 there has never been a game given away that was infected with malware.

I temporarily stopped Avira (anti virus software) while installing the game, but it didn't make any difference. Besides Avira I use CCleaner, Malwarebytes AntiMalware and Spybot to scan my computer every (other) week. Could any of those malware/spyware software cause the key cannot be decrypted message?

.....................................Moderator Comment..............................

I doubt CCleaner would, but the others could possibly. When you next get the key cannot be decrypted message open up the event viewer and check the logs to see if there are any messages that may give a clue as to what the problem is. Thousands of community members have no problems installing the game, so it has to be something running on, or the way you have your security or other software configured that is causing this problem. I do hope the problem gets solved. Try posting the issue over in the forums as well. We have some very talented tech guys who may be able to suggest a fix. The problem with posting in the comments section, once the giveaway has ended hardly anyone looks at the pages again, whereas the forums are always open.

my internet speed is fine but some sites are so slow for downloading
don't download much either but will keep IDM in mind If I can justify paying for software that I would not use often enough

thanks for replying

Hi Graham, the main problem with downloads from the game giveaway site is that they are limited with bandwidth. Because up to a hundred or more community members can be downloading at any one time the bandwidth is shared between everyone. so, the more community members downloading, the slower the download is. I usually am able to download the game before it goes live so am the only one downloading and never have a problem with download speed. I get around 150+MB per second download speeds and was able to download today's game in less than 7 seconds on Friday evening

Personally, I suggest FDM for download manager for Windows.
It used to be open source, although seems to be freeware nowadays.
However it's still reliable and I haven't noticed any bundles.
If someone wants to test it, it's here: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/.

a lot of the games have good graphics and usually quite a big download
but most of the time I try to download the download stops or either downloads at a very slow rate
could you include a good download manager as a second option rather than a second game for future downloads

love all the games on GTOD and probably downloaded all of them
keep up the good work

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Graham, you can get download managers for free. If you have a slow connection it may be worth finding one that you feel comfortable with. Personally I use Internet Download Manager, a commercial version that gives me the option to download in up to 32 slices.

yes I have tried a few download managers but my computer was infested with malware and popups
and homepage hijacks etc..
can you recommend a good link to download ?

graham

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Graham, personally I don't download free stuff except from the giveawayoftheday, BitsDuJour and Failmid's (SharewareOnSale) sites as I don't trust most free sites, especially if there are lots of confusing buttons that look like the download button for the program you are looking for. Too often in the past I've clicked on the wrong button and been whisked off to another site, or found adware/malware installed. Even with the three sites I do use I usually end up purchasing the commercial versions of the programs if I've found the programs useful. It's one of the reasons I purchased Internet Download Manager (IDM) (though that one was initially recommended by a good friend of mine).

With IDM I get free updates regularly and it works brilliantly. However, if you don't want to purchase one, I used to download stuff from FileHippo and Cnet. Clicking on either of those two links will take you to a free download manager. Both sites have a reasonable reputation, so downloads should be safe, but I cannot guarantee that; you download at your own risk.

graham, Don't usually endorse free programs (other than GGOTD and MPC) but since I've had such good work done by the file downloader I use..and it's truly free, with no bug, no malware etc.. I decided to share.

best part is, even when it had an update(and you have to check yourself,it doesn't auto do it) it's still free! It also works really well on anything I've used it on.
