Walking Zeds aka Kill Them All 2
In Brief

A 3D zombie arena shooter
The Game

This is not The Walking Zed's created as a mod for the excellent open world zombie survival game 7 Days to Die, but a totally different first person zombie game. Survive the zombie apocalypse. :) The installation file is called Kill Them All 2 rather than Walking Zeds.

I initially took about 20 screen captures while in game, but all were blank when I finished; though I replayed it, using a different screen capture program and managed to capture a few more. The game is another of those zombie shooters within an arena like setting. I went through 10 waves, each successive wave increasing in the number of zombies appearing. I didn't find any weapons apart from the default pistol and knife initially, but in later waves noticed that there were several rifles and a shot gun scattered around. I think each successive wave introduces another weapon. The most effective is the shotgun at close range. To pick these up you need to place your mouse pointer over the object until a hand appears, then press F to pick up. Also pick up ammo separately. I easily survived to the tenth wave, but then realised I had ran out of ammo for all weapons with only three spider heads left. I tried to kill these (they're the hardest to kill, requiring several bullets to kill) while my health was at 100, but still died and did not kill one of them with my knife.

The options menu allows you to change the graphics from Low to Ultra in four steps, but there is little difference between all four settings. You can see a little more detail in the trees and grass and the image may be slightly sharper, but little else. There are five or six different monster types, the hardest to kill are the spider heads.
This is another of those quick fire then finish games, more suited to a few moments of game play during a coffee or tea break. There is little to keep you riveted as each wave is located in the same arena initially. I was hoping to see some different environments, but up to wave ten they remained the same. I do not know if there are different levels and too be honest, I wasn't willing to spend more time working through the first ten waves again to see if we got a different level; However, from the images posted on Itch.io, it and at the top of this page, it looks like there are at least five different levels, each with it's own environment. I'll have to try this again, but I'm too busy today. With five different environments this looks like a better game than I at first thought. My advice, download and check it out for yourself. The key to survival is not to stay in one place for more than several seconds to ensure the mainly slow moving zombie don't approach you too closely. There are a couple of faster zombies, but even these can be dealt with relatively easily so long as you don't get cornered. The arena style of the first level gave you ample room to maneuver. The only reason I didn't make it to the end of wave 10 was because i wasted a lot of bullets in previous waves and hadn't realized I'd used them all up. I unlocked around five different weapons, but there are more to unlock as you progress such as a mini gun and a sniper rifle.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thanks again for a nice review. Based on your experience, I imagine it would pay to try and use your knife on easier enemies early on, to save bullets for harder enemies later on.

mark_wr Covenant,

Absolutely true, though I did use the knife early on when I only had the pistol and it didn't seen to do much damage; in fact I was damaged more. There is of course an alternative that I didn't think of at the time, use the melee option.

Whiterabbit-uk,

I didn't check for a video when I wrote the short review shortly after today's game went live. and only realised when I woke up in the early hours of the morning (4.20am). So....... I found the one posted by one of the games hosts, our friend Falcoware Games.

When I first saw the video I immediately recognized the environments as I played a cooperative zombie shooter with some friends earlier this year that had the exact same street scenario but can't remember it's name. It's definitely not today's giveaway as that particular game was a cooperative one and two of my online friends had joined me. On reflection, this isn't surprising as these game engines used shared assets and additional add on packages, but I didn't realise they included entire level designs as well? If I find the game in my Steam library, I'll let you know what it was. I do remember it was very cheap to buy (I think it was on a 90% off sale)and I'm sure I purchased some gift copies for my online friends.

You can see the video of game play, which confirms that there are more than one scenario HERE
Addendum:
I found the game, or at least another game that has used the scenario from the above video and even the same zombie skins. It was a game given away last year May 16th 2019 HERE called Monsters Attack.. This is one of the issues I have with game engines like Unity. Basically you can see the same assets used in lots of games, which takes away from the originality. Sadly there are an increasing number of cheap games released on Steam using the Unity engine using the same assets by wannabe game developers (though I suppose they have to start somewhere). The level in Monsters Attack and today's giveaway are basically the same with maybe different spawn points. I didn't keep monsters attack, so can't compare them. However, it's possible that the level or one very similar is also featured in the game I bought my friends while it was on sale via Steam for £0.39p last year (usual price £3.99) that was called Masked Forces 3, though Masked Forces 3 is far better than today's giveaway simply because it has an online mode that does work, plus better assets. That said, I'm not totally positive about it being a fact?

Ok, I'm confused. This Giveaway page says this giveaway is "Walking Zeds" yet when I run the installer (BTW there is no wrapper) the installer says "Kill Them All 2 1.0". Huh? Is this the wrong game or is this game called two different things?

GOTDUser,

Hi, The game is named Walking Zeds by the developer over on Itch.io, but the installed game is named Kill Them All 2. I have no idea why the developer did this?
