I'm not an expert on this sort of stuff, but 2 contributors on Steam gave some idea of what type of game this is, though that was all the feedback there was. The 1 Curator who did an informational post on this called it an Arena Defender, the other a Wave Survival Brawler. From the official description I would say that those are both correct and should give folks with a little game experience - more than me, anyway - a good picture of what genre/genres this game falls into. If I get it, I assume almost anyone will. :P
There is only 1 negative review from a regular poster who is not a fan of games that start out as templates on programs that try to help novice game developers - this is another template from the Game Maker Studio program - that he feels aren't really developed more very much past the point of dumping them on the market as a finished game. Honestly, from what I've seen of many of these Game Maker Studio as a backbone games that have been given here, they seem pretty basic with what are often called "retro" graphics (though my temptation is to label them "mostly crude").
The curator's post, however, did seem to see a little challenge in it: "2D arena defender. Slightly hard and might require few tries. Save fireball for giant, and stay close enough that he swings, but doesn't advance on you. Reach level 5 character. ~20 minutes to 100%."
Not sure if he means 20 minutes to finish the 1st level or the game, but, considering how long these games usually take, I suspect the latter. So, I'll be bypassing this one - though it would normally interest me - because I'm really not interested in collecting dozens and hundreds of these very short games. I very much respect those who say these can be useful coffee break games, but I can play round or 2 of Windows solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Minesweeper, solitaire mahjong, a match 3, a hidden object scene or 2, actually many things in a coffee break. Cluttering up my PC with games with a short initial play time, and not enough replayability to have much of a long play life seems to me to be just that: accumulating clutter. But, to real game fanatics, this might be attractive.
Thanks, anyway, GGOTD and Falcoware.
