Vikings Wars
In Brief
Viking Wars is a basic real-time strategy game pitted against the games AI (i.e no multiplayer). The first image is the thumbnail you get when you hover over the games icon in the task bar. It shows Old War instead of Vikings Wars.

The Game
This is one of those RTS games on the lines of previous giveaways Old War and Old War 2, in fact this is basically a rehash of those and other games we've received from this developer (via Falcoware). If you hover over the games icon in the task bar it actually says Old War. Whats different is the dev' has used some different assets, however, the game mechanics , leveling up system and environments etc are either exactly the same as Old War 1 and 2 or very similar. Nothing wrong in that, especially if you didn't get those earlier games; however, Vikings Wars does not bring anything new to the game.
If you are a die hard real time strategy game I'd say don't waste your time; however if you are a novice or new to the genre, this could be a good game to start you off on the RTS trail. It's a very simple game, with very colourful graphics. However, your different character types are very limited and upgrades are not significant. I do like the colorful environments, but I have a ton of much better RTS games so am unlikely to play this after I've finished my review of the game.
The aim of the game is to kill all the opposing army. The best way to achieve this is to storm the nearby lands that are occupied by the enemy and capture their resources. The more resources you have the quicker you can afford to build more, attacking units of which you have four different types (Magician (cost 120), Giant (cost 300), Berserker (cost 120) and Spear thrower (cost 200)), each of which can be upgraded to improve their particular skills (cost of upgrade = 120). and build farms to harvest the resources. Once you've cleared the level of all enemies (by destroying their resource points) you win and can then proceed to the next level.

Conclusion:
Vikings Wars is basically the same as Old War 1 and 2 apart from the slightly different character assets. Also, the AI seems to have been improved slightly because the enemy appear more pro active than the previous titles, which makes for a more challenging game. It's still very basic, with only four units to upgrade and only one building to build (i.e. the Farm). As mentioned above, this is one for the novice and not for die hard RTS fans. If you like a short challenge during your coffee break, this is an ideal colourful accompaniment to your short break. We've had two other games apart from the two Old War games from Small Games the developer called Xenos Defense and Galaxy Monster, both of which were playable and personally for me, much preferred to these simple RTS games (Old War, Old War 2 and Vikings Wars). My previous conclusions on this type of RTS game was quoted as follows:
''It’s a basic real time strategy game, that any RTS fan will probably think is total rubbish from the outset, however having been into r.t.s. games ever since the first Civilization and Alpha Centauri by Sid Meier and Syndicate from Bullfrog Productions (1993), I would argue that this is actually a really good starting point for those who have never played RTS games before despite its relatively hard to beat levels. It’s simple, and has limited units, with even fewer commands to remember.'' I would stand by this for today's game as well.

lester lechleitner,

Hi Lester, Thank you for your comment and concern; however, let me assure you that every game ever given away by the giveaway team has been thoroughly checked by the giveaway team using several different anti malware suites. They have been giving games away since 2006 and have never given away a game infected with malware.

What your security is seeing is the Falcoware installer that does contain low level adware; however, that adware is restricted to the Falcoware installer only and is not installed onto your computers system, nor is it activated outside of the game. Basically all the games we get from Falcoware and MyPlayCity, are commercial games usually sold on other sites like Big Fish, Steam, Alawar etc; however free game sites like Falcoware and MyPlayCity include low level adware that earns them income; part of which is given to the developer of the game. Developers can make a lot more money by allowing their games to be given away in this way; it has become common practice for smaller indie developers and arcade game developers to allow their games to be given away like this; especially since the financial crisis back in 2008.

I checked the games executable with Virus Total and of the 70 scanners that checked the file only three found anything negative which related to the adware that Falcoware include with the game (see the image below, the three anti-malware programs that did shown activity are not the well known ones, all of which cleared the executable ). This is not malware and won't affect your system. All that happens is that while the game is booting up via the Falcoware installer, online games are advertised. When you close the game down, your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page. Apart from the minor inconvenience of your browser opening to Falcoware's home page when you close the game down and having to wait 10 to 20 seconds before the game loads after clicking on the games executable or shortcut, there is nothing else. The actual game is free of malware.
