Vasilisa's torment was available as a giveaway on April 19, 2023!
Incredibly hardcore platformer with an interesting storyline. Once upon a time Vasilisa was cursed by dark forces. They turned her into a scarecrow. But all the knights were afraid to save Vasilisa's soul, they thought that they will be cursed too. Only Ivan decided to save her. Climb a pillar above the sky, passing through incredibly difficult obstacles and find the key that will save the soul of Vasilisa.

movement - arrows
"C" - jump, climb

For whatever it's worth, developer classifies it as a prototype. Can't say for sure that that's bad or good, but points for honesty. Most things are prototypes at their beginnings, after all.
Thanks GGOTD and Falcoware.

Brief Overview: Vasilisa's Torment is a 2D indie platform game released in 2023 and has never been given away before on GOTD. It was submitted to Indie Varvar's Game Jam #4 in February where it ranked #9 of 56 entries... Game Jam is a competition for high-speed game development. Teams make games in 3 days on a given topic. The theme of the jam is announced at the start so that they do not start making games in advance. https://itch.io/jam/indie-varvars-jam-4/results
Translated comments from a different language from the jam since there is no steam reviews: Incredible game! The theme of "Dark Tale" is transferred simply with a bang. The visual style and music are also great. There are a few bugs, there is a slight stiffness in jumping, there are not enough sounds besides the music, but in general ... 5/5 ! Definitely one of the best games on the jam. To do this in 3 days, and even alone ... standing ovation! ...
Very nice visuals and interesting jump mechanics. But it is not always clear where the platform is and where the background is because of the pixels.

So I came back later to try it out this evening. Initial text of the story is currently in another language but will bring you into the gameplay shortly. The other short text displayed in game is mainly for explaining controls as follows: Arrow keys to move, C jumps, and holding C down jumps higher. Jumping off a wall while within a narrow gorge of two close vertical walls jumps really high. Its also possible to climb up walls with C as well but the white circle next to your character will turn red after a bit and you wont be able to climb up more temporarily when its red as if that means you are fatigued.
The white orb in the levels allows you to jump off it and will disappear temporarily. Another interesting aspect is that if you touch/jump through or on a white orb and then touch a wall, two white circles appear next to the character for a moment rather than one and can double jump to a much higher area as well. So overall its interesting in its platform mechanics and obviously nothing like those gamemaker studio platformers we see often.
The fact that the action takes place on a giant carnival is conceptually cool. However, the ending ends abruptly but as mentioned its from a game jam and therefore a prototype to be worked on further. As far as what to work on, first the background colors are difficult to see which ones can be jumped onto, perhaps intentionally, perhaps not. Translation into english for the on screen text. The controls work ok but there was some issues with getting the very high jump to work easily all the time with the orb and wall combination only in some places, and its an important part of the level design and gameplay. The difficulty initially was more from that than just the way the level is designed. Maybe add collectible items in harder to reach places along with achievements for reaching them. And of course having a save function if the game grows in size since the level design is to be more on the challenging side of things. I do like how it returns you to the beginning of a certain point when you fail such as the statue at the beginning of level 2 rather than all the way from the game beginning and therefore makes you want to try again. So its not hardcore to intentionally make you mad like some titles do and I would stay away from that type of design. I will come back to this one once it has an update and preferably english added.
