Under Siege:
In Brief:
Under Siege is another tank shooter; similar to Sundays game giveaway, where you had to control a tank that defended it's base against attack from enemy tanks. Today's version is less maze like, but has similar game play, where you have to destroy enemy tanks before they destroy you. One hit by some of the tanks will destroy your tank immediately and end the level; there are four enemy tank types . blockquote>

You earn cash by destroying enemy tanks; then, at the end of a level you can enter the shop and purchase upgrades for your tank; i.e. armour, weapons or speed upgrades, using the cash you've just earned from destroying enemy tanks.

There are also some power-ups available that appear randomly in the arena. These give you temporary buffs for one of the three attributes, (armour, weapons & speed ). Each one of these can be upgraded up to four times; if you are into fashionable tanks ;) you can change the colour of your tank for a small fee.

Some of the environment is destructible, so watch where you try to hide. See the introduction above for more details about todays giveaway.

You can see a few videos of game play HERE
Conclusion:
If you enjoyed Sundays tank shooter offering, I think you'll like this one a little more because of the ability to upgrade; plus, it's not got that Pacman/maze like quality that Tanks Evolution (Tank Commander) had.

Consequently It's much easier to manoeuvre around each of the 20 arenas that you get with this game using the WASD keys to turn and move. You cannot move at an angle, only forwards, backwards, left and right. This did cause some issues with movement for me, until I got used to the mechanic. I'm wondering whether a controller can be used with the game? The main positives that Tanks Evo has over todays game is it's coop mode and it has double the number of levels; otherwise, Under Siege is a better game IMO. (It's due for a Steam release on the 8th June 22 HERE.

As with Tanks Evolution, todays game is not one I could play for more than a coffee break session; it's great for those few moments, but there's not enough variation in the game play for it to be a serious contender for many of the games I'm playing at this time; even some of the indie arcade games such as Vampire Survivors , Zombie Night Terror & ΔV: Rings of Saturn .

Whiterabbit-uk,

You'll find regularly updated details of all the reasonable game deals and freebies that I can find HERE.

You can get Bomber Crew free via Steam at the moment. It may end later today? There's only two days left to claim Bioshock, Bioshock 2 & Bioshock: Infinity (the giveaways end at 4pm UK/11am Eastern Thursday 2nd June). Please follow the link above to see details for both the Bioshock Collection and Bomber Crew.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 59 antimalware engines. You can see the results of the installed games scan via the following link:

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/f9a40ee0732e0d0c2185b3c76a5d9876c99369581fc7d5651e272e0a99c93033?nocache=1
The downloaded executable for installing the game 'may' include some low level adware that only opens your browser once to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and also places four shortcuts onto your desktop (these can be safely deleted once the game has installed with no effect on the game).

The installation DOES NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away for free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer almost two years ago (that installer would show an advert for a game while the game was loading (which always took about 20 seconds to ensure you'd seen the advert). It would also always open your browser each time you closed the game after playing it).
Sanboxie, GeSWall, BitBox, Windows Sandbox, Bufferzone (a six month commercial license was given away via the applications side of the project back in December 2009 HERE), Shadowzone, as well as others. (You'll find them all on the same page from Techwhoop.

The original game that spawned a clone of of these games were Namco's Assault. You can play it for free in the browser here: https://archive.org/details/arcade_assault

Be aware that the original game had twin joysticks for piloting the tanks so you will need to pay attention to the comments at the bottom of the web page to play. Namco Museum 4 also had Assault which had formatted the game for a 4x3 screen. I never understood why they did that.

You can also find other games downloadable in the Internet Archive as its a large library of media, historical information and other interesting tidbits.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

Thanks for reminding me about the Internet Archive. I used to watch old Sci Fi B movies via the site some years ago. I'd forgotten that they also have a massive collection of older games. I checked out Assault and thought it was more interesting and playable (apart from the key bindings) than either of the titles we've been given recently.
