Ultimate Puzzles Cars 4:
UPC4-001

In Brief:
Ultimate Puzzles Cars 4 is another of those simple 4x 4 square piece puzzles from Uniden, that are great for the youngsters, but really very easy for adults to complete. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes at the most to complete each of the seven jigsaw puzzles provided.
We've had several of these from Uniden via Falcoware games; for example Christmas, Ultimate Puzzles Cats 1, 2 & 3 Dogs 1, 2 & 3, Marine Life 1 & 2, Animals 4, 5 & 6, Cars Collection, Puzzles Collection, United Kingdom, USA, France & Italy etc. All have similar mechanics and are 4x 4 grid puzzles with square pieces.

The Game:
Each of the seven puzzles are made up of 16 square pieces. which are placed on a 4 x 4 grid i.e. 16 pieces. Most of the pieces are not oriented correctly, so you have to change their orientation by clicking on the piece with the left mouse button. Each click turns the piece clockwise 90 degrees; you can't turn them anti clockwise. To place a piece on the board use the left mouse button, grab then move to the grid section you think it belongs on. If it is correct it will lock in place; if it's the wrong place or you've not got the correct orientation it will move to a random place on the periphery of the jigsaws grid. The addition of rotating the pieces and also placing them in different places each time you attempt to complete the puzzle adds to the difficulty slightly. Also, some pieces will overlap at the start of each attempt and in some cases totally obscure one or more pieces. You can restart any of the puzzles at any time by clicking on the back arrow. Each puzzle is timed, but no scores are recorded when you've completed the puzzle. Once completed you can either try again or return to the main page where you can then select another image to solve.
Conclusion:
All the puzzles are relatively simple. An adult could easily complete the whole game in around 15 to 20 minutes at the very least. Personally, I think the developer's asking price over on Itch.io, of $5 per puzzle game is well over-priced considering there are only seven puzzle images to solve and each puzzle is only a small 4 x 4 grid with 16 simple pieces. If all of the series were to be combined, it would seem a fairer price. That said, there are 'free' jigsaw programs available online that in my opinion are far better than today's jigsaw puzzle; (okay it's free today)....

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 59 antimalware engines.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that only opens your browser once to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and also places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer over a year ago (that installer would show an advert for a game and then open your browser each time you played and then closed the game down.)

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:
For other free games, please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies; it's kept up to date frequently, whenever a free game becomes available, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Also for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies. Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links at the top of this comment as well.
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:

1) ... Six Sides of the World (a puzzle videogame that takes you into an intergalactic journey through different star systems riddled with brain-racking challenges)

2) ... Byte Family (this one was given away previously, but was then removed from the free section, another chance to grab) it - Overcome obstacles and restore the cyber world Byte Family, eliminating the system virus, unlocking new game modes and gaining new skills!

3) ... Avani: The Primal Land (Explore, gather, learn, craft and build in the world of Avani: The Primal Land. Fight, hunt and tame wild animals. Animals have their own genetics and no animal is like the other. The interactive taming process allows making a real bond with each tame. Avani offers a unique crafting system combined with a huge skill tree and an intuitive building system mixed with traditional survival game elements)

4) ... Cov Shooter (Try to survive as many waves as possible, upgrade your stats and weapons to do that)

5) ... Alone on Mars, (a 2D survival shooter on Mars)

6) ... WTC : Relentless Protagonist [Sxs}, (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

The following (previously) free games have now been removed from the free library: Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (112 games are available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; so, you should grab them as soon as you can.

The latest game from Epic games is Relicta a first-person physics-based puzzle game where you need to creatively combine magnetism and gravity to unravel the secrets of Chandra Base. Play as a top physicist stranded on an eerie, derelict Moon base. Find your way around the enigmatic, terraformed craters by bending gravity and magnetism to your will in order to solve physical puzzles. Will you rush straight ahead and try to reach safety - or will you take your time to gather clues and unravel the intrigues of 22nd century orbital politics? Buried in the eternal darkness of the lunar craters lies a secret that might claim your daughter’s life - or change the fate of humanity forever. Are you ready to face the ultimate consequences of your research?

From Thursday 27th January at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting DAEMON X MACHINA - Pilot your fully customizable Arsenal mech and join your fellow mercenaries in defending humanity from the corrupted machines and gigantic robots in this post-apocalyptic action game!
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. You can find Fanatical games (that used to be called Bundle stars) HERE.

I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis. I won't be posting them daily this time; only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE

So far I've posted five excellent PC games i.e.

1) ... Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe (a squad based solo shooter)
2) ... Battlegroup 44 (a free standing mod for Battlefield 2 that is a follow up to the original Battlefield 1942)
3) ... Slam Tilt (an excellent pinball game with four tables)
4) ... 3-D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night, (one of my all time favorite pinball games from the mid 90's).
5} ... Breakquest (one of my all time top ten 2D breakouts)
6) ... Messy Paths (an android game)

Last weeks free game from Falcoware i.e. Black And White Apocalypse by the developer hammergames is apparently always free and can also be downloaded as a colour version. The community member Space pointed this out yesterday. You can find both versions over on itch.io via the following links. Black & White version, and Coloured version. :)

You can also find 'all nine' of the developers games (for free) HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

Stay safe everyone.
