Whiterabbit-uk,
Want to get word out, it's VERY IMPORTANT to install today's Windows update patch ASAP.
krebsonsecurity[.]com/2020/01/cryptic-rumblings-ahead-of-first-2020-patch-tuesday/
Seems the NSA found a very serious bug in one of the core parts of Windows security that's going to be patched.

Wow! This game is really great! Nice physics, fairly difficulty missions, and some tactics to work your way through the enemy fleets... absolute awesome game! I just unlocked the anti-aircraft submarine and this game is just getting better and better with progress.
DO NOT MISS THIS GAME it is the bomb!

Hi ---, i got the game yesterday evening from here, this giveaway has had an uptime of more than just one day. The download link sent to me by mail was working fine.
I would suggest you try to download the game from another system or a Linux-Live-DVD.
I usually download games from this site in Windows 7, but i am writing these lines on Fedora 31 Workstation and that usually works too.
I just tested the link from my email again. NOW, it is broken and it just loads the 250kb file everyone is talking about at the moment in these comments, so i unfortunately was just one lucky guy who downloaded Monday the 13th, at 13:47 central european time.

And on a side note to other Win7 users. The game works on my Fedora 31 with Wine from this giveaway's Falco Software game.exe.
I'm considering in buying it from Steam aswell.

Just hit the, email me the link, and everything works fine. From getting the download link in my email, to clicking on it, and opening up the link page in Edge. No idea why so many have problems.
The game loads up fine and so do it's many bs web shortcut links for Falcon Games, all of which I deleted off my C drive. This game does require Net 2&3 to be downloaded and if you did not do that or have that, the game will not work.
It is an arcade game, with only keyboard keys to run the submarine. Therefore, you need to be able to use the WASD and CNTRL and SHIFT keys to run the game. It's an okay game and I will probably keep it to waste some time now and then. I prefer WOWS at wargaming and waiting for them to bring submarines into the game.

---,
I've downloaded the file from three different computers and get a perfect download each time. Maybe your security is blocking the download? Looking at the administrators page there has been hundreds of downloads of this game. I can only suggest you check the FAQ's thread over in the Game discussion sticky section. It may be an issue between you and your provider? (Just making suggestions). I hope you do get it to work as it is a decent game. It is on sale via Steam aat the moment for only £0.39. Also as mentioned below, you'll find this on Itch.io where you can download it for free HERE, though it is the beta version released 4 years ago:

Is there any documentation for this game?
I'm trying to see full (birds eye view) map and my position in it. Or, anything that'll help me navigate to the enemy.
Save | Cancel
Wanderer, You have to use the "radar" in the upper right corner to navigate... the "objective" of the mission is shown as a Blue dot (or in some cases, multiple Blue dots), enemy ships as Red dots, "checkpoints" as Purple dots (it says you'll respawn at the checkpoint, although to date I haven't seen that happen yet), and the shore batteries protecting your submarine pens as Green dots.
Basically you just head for the Blue dot (your sub is at the center of the radar) and try to avoid the Red dots.
I haven't found anything (yet) that shows the full map, although at least through about three missions the terrain has remained the same so eventually you kind of learn where the islands are.
It appears the Green bars on the left of the screen indicate your Hull integrity (lose them all and your sub sinks) and the gauge with the "X" on it (the second one down) is your Fuel. (The top gauge is your Oxygen.)
Sinking an enemy ship may drop "supplies" you can pick up to replenish fuel or torpedoes. On some missions you'll have to do this even though the mission doesn't specifically require sinking enemy ships because you won't have enough fuel to reach the actual objective.
Ships may drop "mines" or "depth charges" which you have to avoid or take damage if you hit them.
The sub has "inertia" so it doesn't turn like driving a race car, which adds some realism to it.
I'm still getting used to which button does what, as far as submerging and surfacing and shooting, but all in all it's a fun diversion from the other games we typically see here.

BobR,
Many thanks to you, indeed.
As for the checkpoints (Purple dots), it will respawn you to that position only if you sub is destroyed.
The aircraft gets me, so, I've been there many many times (lol).

---,
I've just tried to download the game again to see if something has gone amiss since I last downloaded it and it still works fine (01.49hrs UK time). The downloaded zip file should be 71MB in size. If anyone is still getting the "264 byte HTML File" I can only suggest trying a different browser to download the file as the giveaway server is not the issue here. If it was everyone would be getting the same download issue. It has to be something on the provider or community member side, maybe some security issue. As mentioned elsewhere, check the FAQ's thread over in the game discussion forums HERE

Hi, Stephen! Thanks for finding time for this site even during this hectic time (and belated congrats to your son).
Unfortunately, your argument works both ways: If lots of regular users, who normally can download the games, are having a problem with just THIS one, there must be something different with IT on the servers -- remember there are TWO games today, and nobody seems to have a problem with the other one...
I tried WinXP, Win7, Android, and even a mail link, and ALL just give me the html... :-(

alexyu,
Hi Alexyu,
Thank you for your comment.
There has been almost 1400 downloads of this game so far. Although several community members have had this issue, its a very 'insignificant' percentage of the whole. If there was an issue with the game itself, many more community members would have been reporting this issue. As I don't have this issue and have never seen a similar issue with games given away here, I cannot suggest a fix. All I can say is that it has to be an issue that is not on the giveaway servers but somewhere from the end user to the provider of their internet services. Maybe some security program that is common to those that are not getting the game. Falcoware games do include an installer with the game that also includes low level adware (what I mean by low level is that it doesn't invade your system, it just shows when you play the game); it may be this that is causing some security software to delete the game or part of it (if that's possible from a zipped file)? I used to have security software that did something similar with no warnings; I can't remember which one it was now as I've used many different ones over the years. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi, Stephen! Thanks for your reply, and I'll treply, although it's moot by now, since the GA has ended...
I've seen the 'boilerplate text' you used many times previously, and it's reasonable as far as it goes -- but, in this specific case at least, we have an ideal 'comparative case': There were 2 games to downloads, from the same server, on the same time period - and many users who had no problem downloading a zip file for one (NoExit) only received an html page when trying to download the other (UBoats)!
So, the problem was NOT ONLY on the users' systems (possible hidden/forgotten security SW), but was clearly something which one GA had and the other one hasn't; if it was really a problem with the GAotD server, or something in the GA zip file which lead to such a strange behavior (sending a link to the GAotD site instead of one to the zip file -- never heard of that before!), would merit further analysis... But the point I was making was that there had to be something 'different' in this GA than all the previous ones.
I have DL'ed previous Falco games with no problems, but perhaps only this one had something different; but we'll never know...

alexyu,
Hi Alexyu, again, thanks for your reply. I am at a loss to explain why this has happened. The majority of community members were able to download and install the game, at least the number of comments that were not able to would indicate this. so the game had to be a working copy. As you say its now a moot point, so lets leave it at that. It is a shame that some community members missed out on this game, and a pity I can't pass on my giveaway copy as I'd already purchased this game when it was released on Steam as I love Submarine games of any description.
Thankfully the game can still be downloaded from Itch.io for free, though as I mentioned elsewhere I'm not sure if its an earlier beta version of the game?

Whiterabbit-uk,
There's also a link to a Falco non-beta version in JEDIGEG's listing (and I remember there should be ways to 'defang' it).
Besides an egoistic worry, I was also curious to find out WHAT could cause such strange behaviour (usually, the DL just doesn't work, or the file is corrupt), so I still suspect it may be some setting in the GAotD server which 'shunts' some requests to the page and not the zip; let's hope it never happens again.
OT: After the GA period the link changes to "DL Trial", which does work for Toomky, MyPlayCity, etc., but NOT for steam-page games, since there is no trial version on Steam: Either you buy it or not...

Tryin' to help,
Hi Tryin' to be help, thank you for posting the link and the though behind it; unfortunately we are not allowed to post such links to cloud based download sites, so I had to delete it. There are alternative sources of the game from official download sites such as Falcoware and Itch.io, both of which have been linked to elsewhere in these comments.
