Looks pretty, but hated the fact that at least in the levels I tried, you have to whack every single brick 4 times before it disappears. I don't mind that on SOME bricks in these breakout games, but having that on ALL of them is a drag. Deleted this one already. I much preferred the breakout game from the other day, Barkanoid was it? Much better gameplay.

I downloaded and played this game before many times. It starts out slow but speeds up pretty quickly. I enjoyed it and still occasionally play it. The only criticism I have for the designers is that some of the boards are very hard on the eyes. They have light balls on light backgrounds. Please designers, if you read this, can you improve that?

Fun game! Thanks!
But I couldn't help but notice a misspelled word. It's "lose the ball" not "loose the ball".

First time I ran the game it froze up on my Windows XP system. The second time I won a game and then it crashed.
Also, the Twinxoid weblink installed during setup takes you to a car insurance site.

Mark comment #28, thanks for the heads up on Takamaru, although it is technically shareware not freeware. The author is relying on the goodwill of consumers to pay the £5 for registration, although you do get the full game....the only restriction being the inability to use cheat codes and to upload your scores onto the world wide high score table as well as being unable to save your games. It wont work on XP Pro + SP2, as you require a 16 bit core system, but oddly it does play via Vista. Unfortunately the link you have provided is dead. I found an alternative link below, but I did get a few pop ups.
http://www.taka-entertainment.com/TM.html
I checked the game out and realized I'd seen other work by this guy. I've even corresponded to him about the other game, which is a very strange game that partly an arkanoid style game, with a BIG difference. It almost has a quest style aspect to it, with much of the arena being hidden until you've cleared a path to it. Also it includes an editor.... later on that one though :)...... At this time I haven't access to the HDD that has the game on it, (the computer is still in bits behind me, waiting for me to re-assemble it after cleaning and upgrading it). Unfortunately I can't remember it's name. His work is done in C++ and the graphics are several years behind the times, however the game above and the one I'll post about once I can find it are both worthy efforts although IMO not to the standard and gameplay as todays giveaway. Anyway, thanks again for the link.
Also one of the links I posted from my (according to the Biggest_Baddest_Wolf my Novel, lol) comment #5 needs to be copied and pasted as I didn't activate it. Here's a different link as the one I posted above seems to be dead also.
Ploing (Freeware):
http://membres.lycos.fr/plong/
The freeware version is only 17 levels in size, downloadablw from two links via the above link. I've included a link for the demo of Ploing 2 which is much more polished. To buy the full version will cost you nearly $20 but I'm sure there are some fanatical arkanoid freaks out there ;)
Ploing 2 (Shareware):

Avoid the following link: GGAotD team, if it's possible to edit out the link below from my comment #5 as it has links to other more unsavory sites. Thanks.

A very good breakout clone. I'm guessing the people voting thumbs down OR got problems with the game OR voted without even starting the game :)

Wow, what a great arkanoid style game. Great handling, the grafics are good, too. The best feature is the opponent playing against you (as computer or as human in a network). Great fun to play :)
Thumbs up!

Downloaded and installed fine.
2nd game and it just froze. Absolute no-nonsense off button froze. Reminded me of the good old days of Windows 98.
Nothing so exciting in the game to warrant investigation. This one never made it out of the sandbox.
Thanks anyway. Can't win all the time.

I'm glad to see these repeats on GGAOTD, as I didn't download several of them the first time around, this one included.
This is one of the most fun breakout games / arkanoids I've ever played. Playing simultaneously against a computer opponent for mastery over the level makes things much more interesting than a standard breakout, and the ability to hinder or cripple the opponent during the process keeps things lively.
I haven't tried playing the network option, so I can't comment on that.
The game downloaded and installed without a glitch. It runs, so far, without any problem or bugs that I've been able to notice. Game-play itself is smoothe and, once you get into it, carries along at a nice rhythm. Visuals, while not stunning, are still quite appealing, with lovely backgrounds, and the music is calm and not annoying.
Great game, thank you. I'm keeping this one around for a while.

Come on, do it.
Thanks GGAOTD- even though your games aren't super-special-awesome high-resolution mega-awesome-super-fun special-magical-delicious, I still love you.
Also, remember Space Interceptor? That was the single greatest game I have ever played, and I got it free from GGAOTD.

Excellent game. Very addictive if you're addicted to the same ol' same ol'. LOL! I think it's great that GGOTD is offering nothing more than crusty old repeats. It's perfect for those people who weren't intelligent enough to keep the games on their computer in the first place and are too cheap to buy them. LOL! Plus it allows WhiteRabbit to simply copy and paste his previous epic novels, freeing him up to get the wee ones off to school. LOL! Geez, now I know why this section doesn't ask if you find the comments useful. What a bunch of nin-cow-poops. LOL!
Rock on, GGOTD!!! Bong on, you crazy gamers!!!

Another breakout so quick, and definitely a thumbs up ;) This is my lucky day. :) This was originally given away back in April. And after what I said about yesterdays game, which I retracted later in the day once I’d spent more time ‘trying’ to play it. THIS is probably one of the better arkanoids (together with hyperballoid and Chacks Temple oh yeah and TVI Breakout) to be given away here on the game giveaway site.
You can check out the comments from then by following the link I‘ve provided below:
http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/twinxoid/#comments
It received 90% thumbs up from over 200 votes despite there usually being a lot of negative comments from previous arkanoids. No doubt some will complain today, but really, this IS quite an unusual arkanoid and (this time) really IS one of the better ones :) (as already said.
The following is what I said previousl,. with a few amendments. I’ve included a link to the arkanoid that I recommended yesterday that is freeware and has excellent ball physics (you can spin the ball by flicking the bat. It’s also different in that it’s played on its side like Z ball), but couldn’t remember the name of it. It’s called Poing and can be downloaded from the developers site:
http://www.firestormproductions.co.uk/poing/
Anyway, here’s what I ad to say in April:
Wow another breakout that I haven’t bought yet. Thank you very much. I missed this one totally. This is a very interesting take on breakouts and is not easy as your opponent is constantly causing bricks to appear in your space as he/she destroys bricks in their space. I like this very much. The only thing that lets it down is the color of the bricks, although I can see why it’s been done like this. I’ve since discovered that in later levels you do get some variety in color, which was a pleasing change as I love colourful games :) ) At least the backgrounds are pleasant to look at. However this is the only negative comment I can make about this game. The game play is really good, with the ability to keep bonuses or send them against your opponent as anti bonuses. The game is relatively hard even in the easy modes as your opponent is constantly making bricks appear in your playing field as he destroys them, as you will do against him.
The options menu includes the usual music and sound volume sliders. The music is rather pleasant. But I had to turn down the sound to just an audible level as it was a little annoying after a while (okay two negatives). There are resolution options to suit all tastes from 640×480 to 1600 to 1200. You can also play the game in full or windowed views., change the speed of the mouse, auto aim or the ability to turn on or off your opponents bricks, to your view, however this isn’t too important as you can guess where your opponents bricks are because they are the spaces in your view. The instructions (from the options menu) are limited; however there is an in game tutorial (that can be turned off once you’ve got the hang of it) which is very detailed.
You can play single player with your opponent being the computer or play it online against other human players. You can save multiple profiles as well.
It looks like there are 60 levels divided into 12 sets of five. Each set having a different background that is based on countryside/seaside images. There are five difficulty settings from very easy called feel the motion to very hard called rush to dance.
The bricks and balls have indicators to tell you how many hits they impart or need to hit to destroy the bricks. The balls have five different strengths and the bricks have four.
This is a must have arkanoid for any break out fan, and those that aren’t particularly into this genre should at least give it a whorl as it’s very challenging and pleasant to play. On a scale of 10 comparing it against my large library of arkanoid games (well over 140) I would give this 7 or 8 for playability 8 for originality (as far as arkanoids go) and 6 out of 10 for graphics. total rating 7 out of 10
Comment #11 (from the April comments) by Paul, you can get a free version of the commercial game DX Ball which is the Precursor to super DX Ball deluxe from the following link:
http://www.freewaregaming.com/aa/dxball.html
You can also get a couple of other free breakout games (Brixout XP and Star Ball) the latter one is still being sold at some games download sites from the following address:
Brixout:
http://www.gametop.com/download_free_arcade/play_breakout_xp.html
Starball:
http://www.gametop.com/download_free_arcade/play_star_ball.html
and a new one that isn’t mentioned above, but is IMO the better of the three that are available from this particular site. :)
Scara Ball:
http://www.gametop.com/download_free_arcade/play_scaraball.html
although the price you pay for the games are to get your browser opened and directed to their home page when you finally turn the game off; however this is easily remedied by clicking on the x at the top right hand corner. It only appears once you close the game down, and when you are directed to the page it had well over 30 games (more excellent games have been added since…now standing at 80 games plus access to lots of online versions as well), many of which are great. There are also the free solitaire games I keep mentioning for Lori, including a Klondike solitaire game. There’s also a whole host of other games too numerous to mention here. Apart from the annoying pop up once you close the game there’s no other problems such as malware and viruses.
As we’re on arkanoid day, here’s another interesting take on Arkanoid…….
Try this one. It’s called Ploing (not the one I posted about the other day called poing {or above}) It’s a cross between a pinball and a breakout clone and can be downloaded from here:
http:/freewaregaming.com/aa/ploing.html
I can’t give you a recommendation as to the safety of this site though because I’ve only just found it, and used one of my computers that I’ve not installed site advisor on yet. But it’s seems okay just as long as you don’t go clicking on everything in sight as I think some links may link to porn sites although it’s not immediately obvious. I just used the selection of buttons under the games menu to the left of the main page. Not the search the web box (that also has a games menu) because when I used one of those links I was taken to some ‘very’ soft porn images with further links to click.; however the games are genuine and fun to play. The DX Ball link that I posted above comes from the same group of games (Action/arcade) has recognizable elements that anyone who has the later game (Super DX Ball Deluxe) will recognize, although there are no free level packs as you can get with Super DX Ball that Paul mentions above. There’s a free solitaire game for Lori called 123 solitaire v5.7 and other games to numerous to mention.
Thank you for the repeat game giveaway team, and thank you Elefun Multimedia. Don’t forget…those of you interested in screensavers, Elefun give away a free screensaver or animated wallpaper every day from the following link:
http://www.elefun-desktops.com/
Today’s is a screensaver called Halley’s Comet. I must add though that the animated wallpapers do interfere with any games you like to play, so need to be turned off. They have no effect on programs such as Photoshop’s, Microsoft office or other applications.
Have a great day folks
Oh yeah, nearly forgot, It also installs and plays smoothly with Vista, so everyone, enjoy this game (Vista 64 bit users, make sure the game is installed in the programs (x86) folder as it’s a 32 bit program)

I downloaded this out of curiosity. It is a breakout-type game and does have a single player mode. Not my kind of game so I'm doing to delete it but it is kind of interesting. Installed fine, no problems.

Downloaded and installed fine... When I tried to play it, it would freeze the second I clicked the space bar to start the game. I have an excellent graphics card and dont ever have problems, so I don't know why it wont play. Uninstalled. Thanks anyway.

Do I understand correctly that you can only play this game with two people? Or is there an option to play against the computer?
