In Brief
Twilight City: Love as a Cure is a life management game with excellent graphics and time management, hidden object and puzzles elements included.
Suggestions:
Please take a few moments to give some positive or negative feedback about your opinion of Twilight City: Love as a Cure; for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, or how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like the genre at all, please explain why and if any, what improvements would change your mind? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers new or fresh ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time.

This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed, they don't like MPC games, they hate HOG, have had enough of Match Three and Time Management games, they want to see the latest version of Call of duty or some other big name AAA game given away or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then please move on to the next giveaway, or check out the forums HERE, HERE and HERE, where a few members of the community post details of various free games and free game sites as well as links to various indie bundle sites etc; you never know, you may find something that really interests you.
If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. If you prefer the game on Steam you can buy it HERE. It usually costs £4.99/6.99$ but has 75% off at the moment due to the Steam summer sale so is only £1.24/$1.74. or if you prefer to purchase via Big Fish Games HERE. The Game:
Twilight City: Love as a Cure is a fun casual sim that focuses on character development of a lonely vampire who is in love with a human. But his desire for human blood ruins his love. His only hope of curing this miserable predicament lies in the city of Skylight. In this mythical city, you begin your vampire life by first choosing your gender, physical appearance and even hair color. To buy items that will improve your abilities. You will need to secure jobs to earn gold, which can be used to purchase both food and potions. Vigor and mana are two attributes you need to watch out so that you do not overexert yourself in work. From time to time, you will be required to solve interesting puzzles to complete certain quests for special rewards.
twilight 010

twilight 011
You have one (ultimate) goal, and one only: To become human again. You will have to become influential enough to gain the information you need, and powerful enough to cast the needed enchantment. In order to do this, you will need to complete a variety of quests and studies.
There are some localization issues with the game. Things can be strangely-worded, and you are referred to as if you are male, even if you play as a woman.
The graphics are darkly environmental - nicely done, and without being too dark. There are two or three hidden object scenes, but they are simply mini-games, and part of the story. There is a HINT button, and it refills quickly, plus there is no mis-click penalty, so random clicking works just fine.
The first time you play the game is basically a learning process. Once you learn how things are done, you can start working out strategies to get things done more efficiently, and to do some planning for the future. ie. What kind of job(s) you want to work toward, the order in which you wish to do your quests, etc.
twilight 012

twilight 013
You have your own room at City Hall, which you can decorate and rest in, and your pets and decorations will determine how much mana and vigor are replenished by resting there. Also at City Hall is a tab called Vacancies, which is where you choose the jobs you wish to have. Once you have reached your goal of becoming a human, you CAN continue playing in order to accomplish any personal goals you might have (maybe you want to become the mayor of the city! It's up to you!
Guide:
Vigor: This is your health meter, and is found in the bottom left corner -- the red goblet. When the goblet gets too low, you will learn more slowly and/or make less money due to being too tired. Increase your vigor by eating at the Tavern, or by using a potion from the Laboratory. You can increase your overall health (how much your goblet holds) by completing courses at the Training Camp. Any course that says +(number) Health will make you more resilient.
Mana: Magic power, found in the bottom left corner, the jar filled with blue. You need mana for studies, work, and of course for casting spells. To replenish your mana, visit the circus and watch a show, or use a potion from the Laboratory. To increase your mana capacity, take courses and study at the Academy. Watch for courses that have a +(number) Maximum Mana.
twilight 014

twilight 017
Intellect: The higher your intellect, the faster you will be able to learn new courses (less vigor per study session). Increase your intellect by taking courses at the Academy. Watch for courses that have a +(number) Intellect.
Influence: The higher your influence, the less you have to pay for food, shows, clothes, courses, etc. Increase your influence by taking courses at the Academy, and from some of the items that you buy at the Tailor. Watch for courses and clothes that have a +(number) Intellect.
Agility: Required for some jobs. Increase by completing courses at the Training Camp. Watch for courses that have a +(number) Agility.
Magic Strength: Higher levels required to get some jobs, and for casting spells. Increase your magic strength by taking courses and studying at the Academy. Watch for courses that have a +(number) Magic Strength.
Some courses require Goods, which you can buy at the Store. Also at the store are Decorations for your room. Buy Furniture for your room at the Workshops. Buy Potions at the Laboratory. Buy Food at the Tavern. Buy Pets and "Vehicles" at the Menagerie. Buy clothes, shoes, and decorations (necklaces) at the Tailor. Take courses to increase Health and/or Agility, or learn spells at the Training Camp. Your Room and job Vacancies are found at City Hall. Watch shows at the Circus to increase your Mana. Take courses at the Academy to increase your Magic Strength, Intellect, Influence, and Maximum Mana.
twilight 018

twilight 033
Tips:
When you buy new items such as clothes, furniture, decorations, pets, vehicles, etc., you get a bonus for Vigor and/or Mana. USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE! Before you buy something that gives you a bonus, work work work (money money money!) to use up as much Vigor and Mana as possible, THEN go and buy. You can use the same technique with quests. Use up as much Vigor and Mana as possible before finishing up a quest. You will get to choose your reward, and sometimes it will be a complete refill of Vigor and/or Mana. Nice! You get a timed bonus on some of the more expensive foods (purchased at the Tavern). For example, Wine will increase your movement speed, while the Turkey Meal will increase your Learning Speed!

Conclusion:
If you enjoy games where character development is the main focus, with elements of time management, Hidden Object Scenes and various puzzles thrown in, you'll enjoy this game. It's well constructed and has excellent graphics. Overall I give this a 7 out of 10 for game play and re-playability.

Good game, except for one issue...How do you finish it?? sends you a last task with no idea how to accomplish it!

Just something that made me giggle to start with:

Man or Woman? Woman
Talk to Cassandra.
Cassandra: I think we can make you a man...
Me (pouting) But if I wanted to be a man, I'd have ticked the first box back there!

When I read vampire, I decided this game wasn't for me. After reading further, it sounded really interesting so I downloaded it. It's much more interesting than I thought it would be but at the same time it's back and forth, back and forth. I've gotten used to pretty much instantaneous travel in games so the "get on your horse and ride from one side of the screen to the other" was a bit irritating but I figured it was good for me. That was before I found out that the game was more like: go somewhere to do something. Get there to find out you need to go somewhere else to get something else first. Then you find out that you need more money than you have so go to work to get more money. Then go back to get the thing you wanted then go back to do the task except you didn't realize that it costs more money so go back to work and so on. And between each one, wait while the animation rides across the screen. Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be a penalty for the time anything takes.

This time thing seems a bit odd to me though. You buy better stuff so that you regain vigor and mana faster. But why bother? Unless I'm missing something, you just rest 5 or 6 times instead of once.

In some ways, the game is more interesting than I'd expected but in others, it just seems frustratingly slow.

As Whiterabbit-uk mentioned, replayability looks good. In fact, I have a feeling that playing it a second time is better than playing it the first time. I have to say though, I love shopping for clothes. I'm so glad they let us try them on before we buy them.

I played this all the way through in a few hours. Apart from the dark setting and that fact that everyone said they were vampires, nothing else about this screamed vampire. You don't have to go around drinking blood, for example, but instead can eat perfectly normal food. You do have options (and are occasionally required) to upgrade your room, steed, pets, and wardrobe. (You can also change the colors of every item of clothes you buy).

To me the game seemed fairly straightforward. I liked that that whole town was on one screen. (I am used to RPGs where you have to wander all over many boards and often get lost). I was a little disappointed that the love interest (the reason for the whole scenario) didn't have a role in the story other than a glimpse at the end. Part of the game play (buy learn learn learn learn learn learn learn etc) go home (rest rest rest rest) go to work (work work work work) go home (rest rest etc.) got a little repetitive, so I started watching TV at the same time.

On a technical note, I will say that if you play this on a Surface Pro hooked up to another monitor through a dock, there are two issues 1) if you play on full screen, this will only appear on the SP screen, not the external monitor and 2) the Surface Pro pen won't work with this game. You have to either use a regular mouse or your finger.

However, I give the game a 4/5 for keeping me amused for a few hours. 5/5 for sheer number of classes and upgrade options to choose from. Graphics were probably good in 2012, so 4+. Maybe 3.5/5 for music. Storyline:4/5. I would probably only give it a 2/5 for replayability, though. If I did play again, I would switch genders just to see the other clothes.

What I would love in the game is a in-screen snapshot feature for taking pix of the character in the room with different outfits and pet combos. It would have been neat to see the way both progressed over time.

Thank you for your excellent feedback. If you want you can choose a Steam key from the list I've provided HERE. List at least three games and I'll try to give you your fuirst choice, but if someone else has already asked for it your other choices are important.

I am not a robot.. :) It installed on Win 7 Home just fine. Graphics run smoothly and I really like the Gothic feel to it as well. I opened it up and made sure everything was working. Will check it more later today. I really enjoy these types of games. Thank you GGOTD and My Play City. This game looks to be intriguing.

Have tried three times to get the download link sent to my email (as I usually do), but nothing's come in, not even to the spam folder. Although TMs and SIMs are not usually my cup of tea, the description of this one, along with the promise of a few HOG and puzzle features, enticed me. Is there any other way to get a download link? Usually the email option works like a charm.

neme, yahoo email came right away, like in instant with link d/l as usual. Might try again since is working at this moment.

My email finally came just within the last hour--- many hours after requested! Installed fine on Win 8.1. Played for a little while; confirmed that I just am not in love with TM games (although I seem to manage my own life fairly well :)) and haven't yet come across any puzzles. So this may not be my cup of tea, but I give a big thumbs-up to any game that skillfully endeavors to enhance one genre with the addition of others, to break up the monotony.

For those who like these TM (or life management) games, this looks like a really nice addition. I will keep this one to play some more, though I miss my favorite adventure/HOG/puzzle games.

neme, Goodo. Never know, server (s) do get overloaded and such. Agree about most TM games. Hate kind where little guy runs around chopping wood, stone. Always one darn tree or item to find before win level for full time points. Yes this one is to be congratulated for effort to mix elements for hopefully some freshness.

Thanks for your feedback beergas. Of all the genres of arcade games, TM games are the ones I prefer not to play, however, the little time I have spent on this one I've found it quite enjoyable. There are exceptions to my lack of interest in TM games./ The early Farm Frenzy games I really enjoyed playing, but, after the fourth release got a little fed up of the formulae so didn't buy any more. most are now free via MPC. :)

Hi folks. This game sounds interesting enough, but can anyone answer me this: How difficult is the job/character building side? I'm recalling my feeble attempts to manage Kudos and Sims. O_o

Thanks to Whiterabbit for taking time to write up these reviews and My Play City for bringing us some pretty awesome games for free. Cheers.

Scuze the late reply, been out clearing our secret garden area this afternoon. The character customization is easy and the work is basically button clicking. When your mana etc are low you then have to go rest or go eat to restore them. there' is some grinding involved. :)

Thank you Whiterabbit-uk for your continued efforts and support - it is truly monumental. Thank you My Play City for your continued support and contribution of games here on the weekends. I have downloaded many and still play these games when the time allows.

I'm still playing several breakout games we were given way back in 2006 (Arkanoid TVI), 2007 (Ball 7, Troll, Bonampak and Time Breaker) and 2008 (Roboball). Still got quite a lot of the games we were given back then.
