I am having trouble with the game saving on exit--it keeps me saved at 1-9. I can not save anywhere except this either in story or arcade mode. This is a excellent game but I really can't play the entire game in one setting. If you have a patch or resolution--I would be very grateful to know. Thank you

Please post your question in the forums. no one apart from me and the developer will see this question now seeing as the giveaway is over. Thank you.

The game runs fine on a netbook (Asus EEE PC 1000HE, GMA945, Windows 7), if you install the latest Intel GFX driver and

1) Run regedit
2) Search and modify all values "Display1_DownScalingSupported" from "0" to "1"
3) Restart the system

New resolution 1024x768 will be available then.#

This is the first chance that I have had to try this game. My boys (aged 6&8) have been playing it and love it. I enjoy it too but I find the fact that there is no gem counter to be rather frustrating. I always try to finish a level at 100%, but there is no way to know if you have found everything until it is too late. Other than that, this game is definitely a keeper =). Thank you for a great game!

I am commenting again on this one. It is indeed addictive but I am having a problem with it. I can not jump to a higher level needed in leve 1-10 after rescueing about 6 little ones.

I watched some youtube vids and they just seem to double jump up to the next level. My turtle does a jump and spin. I can't make him jump to the next ledge.

It would be helpful if the HELP section had more detail about jumping since it's such an important part of the game. My turtle sporatically jumps on gems to get farther but I don't know how or why it happens. I can't do it on purpose.

An excellent game for those who can finish it.

I was intending to post a section on the game over in the forums so that those having problems or who wanted help could post there. It's more likely to be seen by the community and more help forthcoming. If I've not posted anything by tomorrow please do post this prblem you are having in the game discussion forums, there may be someone able to help. :)

WR, just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about getting back to you. I realized that it might take a week or two since I'm heading out of town, so why don't I catch up with you in the forum?

BTW, forgot about the NZXT display -- they're quite nice. Took me awhile to figure out how to change it from the default Celsius to Fahrenheit, but it's a pretty neat gadget. :) Every week or so it beeps (loudly) for about half a second, but I never see a temperature issue and the fans are on auto, so it's kind of annoying.

.........................Moderator comment.........................

That's probably the best thing to do. I'll set up a post in the forums later so that you can post there when you're back. Thanks.

With respect to the NZXT display, they actually sent me the wrong one. I originally ordered the slimline version because my case only has three large bays; one of which was for the Blue Ray/DVD player/recorder, one for the Sound blaster X-Fi front panel and the other for the slim line version of the NZXT, but they sent me the one that takes up two bays. I'm intending building another computer next year as I want one with two i7 cpu's and am giving this one I'm using at the moment to my son, so will use the X-Fi sound card and front panel in that and get the basic X-Fi card for my son. I'll also get a different case that has more large bays, lol. Mines an Antec Dark Force 85 case. Wish I'd gone for the next model up but I wanted to spend more money on the cpu and graphics cards.

I had to wait to post my comment until today so I could let my granddaughter give it a go, sorry.

I played it for a little bit and then let her have at it. Both of us liked the game and she played it for some time.
It installed easily in Win7 64Bit, runs smooth and gave no issues.
About the only thing negative I could say is that music that starts if you sit for about 10 seconds or so. My only wish would be that you could turn that feature off.
Good game tho for kids and grandparents alike lol

..........................Moderator comment........................

Hello sugarshar, you can turn the music off by going into options. you'll see two sliders one for music and one for sound effects. you can adjust the in game volume for both from thre. If yo want you can turn the music off entirely by sliding the slider right to the left. :)

You could also change the music for some that you and your granddaughter likes.

to do this yooull need an audio converter tha will convert MP3 or WMA files to OGM ( a form of OGG file). If you don't have one try audacity a free tool that you can download from the following link:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

If you find that one hard to use there are loads more, just Google freeware audio converters, tohugh do be careful not to download from a badly rated site (using WOT or Site Adviser tools (which if you dn't have are also free)

WOT:

http://www.mywot.com/

SITE ADVISER:

http://www.siteadvisor.com/

Once you've converted your preferred music you will need to go to the folder that contains the music files and rename your newly converted files to the same as the ones you are replacing. (I'd back up the originals just in case).

You can find the files in the Turtix\Content\Audio path. You need to find where Turtix is installed to then open up the Content folder, find and open the Audio folder and look for the files that need replacing. for example World 1 through to 5 and probably the Menu file. The rest need to be left alone as they are sound effects.

p.s. there is no need to apologise. Just glad you've taken the time to pot some feedback.

Ive installed it all the way through and it stated that it installed, I did everything twice including trying J zip and win rar. I run firefox and have never had a problem. The game folder and or icon does not show up in the C:/Games/ file. I went into Program Files and its not there either, nothing in the comments addresses this problem.

So finally, I ran the zip file again, and when the box appears where you first get the extraction box, there was this little link in the top left corner that said Extract all files. So instead of hitting ok or extract on the lower right corner I went up and hit the other link. That ended up putting the little icon of the key into the games file, then I hit that and it went through a different wizard that I see most of the time that comes with XP and I chose the C:/Program Files and it finally worked. I was able to get the Turtix.exe icon and make a copy of it for my desktop.

The game however, does not work in Arcade mode, I get to the end of the first screen and even though the circle is blue and I get to jump through to the next screen, the 2 won't light up. I've clicked next and it took me back to the first screen, I've also clicked all over the screen to no avail. The game works fine in Story Mode.

Over all graphics are great and the game is cute, I'd like to have this for my grandchildren as soon as my daughter gets one for them.

.........................Moderator Comment........................

Hi Sylvia, glad you got it to work. Have you read my comments re the arcade mode? The game works in arcade mode on all of my computers that I installed it to, but I played te story mode first. Also when playing the arcade mode i think you have to make sure all secrets are found. Several users reported the same problem. But there were 12 thousand downloads of this game, which would lead me to think either you've missed something or something is conflicting with your game. Try playing it in a different resolution if the above idea doesn't work. Keep me informed if you would. I only check previous giveaways later in the week, so you may not get a reply for some days unless you post it during todays giveaway.

Thank you.

p.s The community member directly bove you in the comments section had exactly the same problem and now it's been resolved. Read what she had to say. :)

Hi Whiterabbit, following your request, I played Turtix for a second time and I didn't re-experience the technical problems. I was able to play through another three levels in Arcade Mode, then I switched to Story mode and then the game offered me the chance to continue from the same point. So the game does run smoothly after the first time it is run. I can't imagine what the problem could be, but I do think the developers should fix it.

Aside from that little glitch, I think if there is a flaw in the game design, it's in the high level game structure. It's slightly confusing - although probably not at all for the target age group! I got the impression more than once, quite possibly a wrong one, that I was being offered the same level again, rather than a new one.

I can confirm that the game calls home when you start it, but it uses a backdoor proxy bypass so most users will not notice it, unless they have no advanced security software installed.

This game is a winner in my book. Easily the best game giveaway since i started checking the site. I am very frugal however, and get most, if not all my games on sale. That said, I would have no problem buying this game on sale for $5 to $7 dollars, while i do think that most would not have a problem with the $10 price tag. Thank's to all involved today.

I was not happy the last time I tried GGAOTD...but I don't know why this program is accessing my registry keys in Windows that it does not need. I don't know any game that needs System Certificates, Root Certificates, TrustedPeople Certificates, or my SmartCard Certificates.
What gives?!?

...............................Moderator Comment................................

What you say is very strange, especially implying that the giveaways have already caused prblems previously. No one else out of the 12 thousand users that have downloaded this game have observed such behaviour, which would point to a problem with your own computer. All game giveaways are throughly tested by the giveaway team using a bank of security software. Also Alawar is a highly regarded game developer. I can only suggest that your computer is already infected with something that gave you the impression that the latest software is infected with something. I would do a full and deep scan of your computer to be sure there isn't something amiss.

Whiterabbit-uk, thanks for the note. Just to follow up, this is the only problematic game out of many in my collection. It occasionally catches its own problems with a "Torque Memory Error" dialog saying "Error allocating memory. Shutting down." I'm guessing Torque is the game engine but I haven't looked any further into it. Even with all that, the game's fun for me so I try to quit and save progress when it first starts acting erratic.

Hardware-wise, I've got liquid cooling and a temperature display on the taskbar. The GPU fan is also set to automatically crank up from its usual 25% speed if it warms up. The machine's really a gamer's delight, although I originally designed it on ibuypower.com for multimedia production a few years ago. :)

Shall I report back once I try to set up today's version instead of MPC's? I've already installed today's in a new location, but I'm going to try not to lose my game progress if I can figure out what files to keep from the other install.

..................Moderator comment..............

Yes, it would be interesting to know if the giveaway version does or doesn't do it.

(I've just built a new computer that includes a temperature dispaly inserted into two of the drive bays (called a NZXT)). I did purchase liquid cooling, (a corsair H100), but the radiator fitting screws were designed to fit over 120mm fans wheras my top mounted exhaust fans are 140mm. All I need to do is build some brackets, but in the mean time i purchased a Khuler air cooler which does its job really well. :)
It's almost 4.30am and I need to go to bed. I'll try and check your feedback before the end o this giveaway (3.5 hours away). I have to get up to post the next review.

@26 Moderator comment about Realone friday games! I think
they have limit of 26 games they give away then repeat
them! Some them are good! How many games has gotd given away??
Thanks giveaway of day and Alawar!

........................Moderator.........................

You can see what games have been given away when first opening the game giveaway page by looking at the bottom of the page. In the first two and a half years of the giveaway project there were over 700 games given away. Since April 2008, the game giveaway went to weekends only. There has been some periods when there were no games, but generally we've been pretty lucky. i'd say about 50% of the gaes we've had since going to weekends only have been repeat, which equates to about 50% of four years of weekends, that roughly amounts to 200 games, so overall we've had almost a thousand different games since the project started. On top of that the community has posted over two thousand freeware games over in the forums. you can find a large proportion of them in the free games synopsis. Me and another community member called I dunno are working on adding all of the other games to the synopsis which have been posted fairly regularly for the past 75 weeks (probably adding another 500 games to the synopsis).

Strange, it doesn't do it for me. All giveaways are throughly checked for malware and we've never given away anything that would harm your computer. No one else has reported this behaviour. I can't explain the behaviour at all, unless youre talking about the initial registration process.

well done game very smooth play very easy on the eyes. but it has to be intended for under 10 yrs old. even hard mode is redicuously easy. only times i got hit is when you can see where the enemie is be low you and you cant see where the spikes are. this is like the Mario game for babies who are first learning how to do platform games there are no attck skills and its simply jump jump bounce hop on head right click jump jump bounce. the secret areas are not secret at all and very easy to find. for kids its an 8/10, but for adult gamers its a 3/10. the part i liked best was when you stand still long enough he pulls out a boombox.

Check the problems section of my review @ comment #1. It could be a problem with your archiver. I've had problems similar to that myself. Using a different archiver will probably solve the problem. I've linked to around 10 freeware programs such as 7 and j zip Try one of those. :)

I too am delighted to see Alawar back again. I fondly remember the days where we got a game each day, and my mornings were filled with excitement unless it was a game I didn't like, lol.

I have installed Turtix onto a 2005 XP Pro SP2 laptop, and a 3 week old Win 7 64 bit, i7 8GB laptop, and both versions work perfectly. Only problem I have is using the mouse. I'm a whizz at the keyboard, but when lying in bed with my laptop on my tum its a bit hard to use the mouse and I end up overshooting the place I'm aiming for. As someone else said, no doubt I will improve with more use.

A great game, long loved by me. Thank you Alawar, GGOTD and of course you WRabbit for your wonderful review as usual.

I've only had the time to quickly install and play one level of Turtix, but I'd just like to say how lovely it is. It's a colourful, cheerful game with very distinctive, beautifully drawn graphics, which would be perfect for parents to play with young children. The concept and the artwork are delightful. I wonder how many little kids have been chuckling over this funny turtle today.

Just one thing though - I downloaded the game in the late evening GMT, and I had the same problems that other people mentioned earlier, with the Arcade Mode being stuck at the first stage of level 1, and with the game disappearing when I clicked on the arrow to adjust the difficulty mode. The game didn't crash for me, but it minimised itself and the screen switched to the Windows (XP) desktop, just as though I'd hit Windows-D, which I obviously hadn't. So I guess that a fix hasn't been provided on the day of the giveaway, but it would be really good to have one later, if possible.

Thanks so much to Alawar Entertainment and GGOTD for this lovely giveaway.

........................Moderator comment................

I had this problem the first time i ever played the game when it was forst given away, but the problem hasn't been repeated on any of the computers I've tested the game on. I've been able to play through the story mode and it saves and also progress to later levels in arcade mode. I did play the story mode before I played the arcade mode which could be the reason it's not saving. Try playing through some of the story mode forst then see if you can progress in arcade mode. Please let me know either way if it works or not. thank you.

Turtix installed with no problem on vista x64.

Very nice game! I'm not really used to platform games, but i enjoyed this a lot. Great graphics, nice gameplay, and the sudden switch in the music is funny (I think).

It's also great you can control the game by mouse, keyboard & joystick, so you have choice. Only thing, i had to move the mouse from left to right to move back or forward & the buttons for jumping and action. It was a kind of hard like that, with the keyboard it was much easier. But i like to play with the mouse, so i'll keep on trying, it already goes better...

Very nice for children & everybody else!

Thanks ~ Alawar, GOTD & Whiterabbit

I really enjoyed this game today i have played the previous version long ago from myplaycity.
A suggestion to the developer is to allow users to change the control keys manually.
A small hint if you don't want to close the browser window each time when you finish playing a game just open the installation folder it will be under program files--->myplaycity and open the game folder and delete all internet shortcuts in that folder. And to deny with its toolbar use program and mark it as adware. Thanks white rabbit for another link to a free game.

Actually 1.25GB of RAM may not enough depending upon what operating system you are running.

Really, that surprises me. It says system requirements are128MB of RAM. So I am unclear on why 1.25GB of RAM may not be enough.
The OS is nothing unusual. XP PRO SP3.

.....................Moderator comment................

Hi Joe, yes, but you need to take account of things like your operating system. Win 7 and Vista (apart from the basic edition which requires less) for example eat up at least 1GB of RAM. Microsoft claims that Windows Vista can run with a minimum of 512MB of RAM for the Home Basic edition, 1GB for everything else.

On top of that you will almost certainly have other programs running in the background, and if you've installed some giveaways you may find those take up RAM as well. This is why I suggest using Game Booster becasue it can turn off un needed services and processes as well as other stuff that you can dictate yourself. If you onnly have 1.25GB of RAM your right on the edge w.r.t. System memory. Seriously, you can easily upgrade memory very cheaply these days. Most forums will recommend a minimum of 4GB these days. (I have 16GB with the ability to increase it to 32GB) and a friend of mine who has the triple channel i7 and he's just upgraded his RAM to 24GB becasue it's much cheaper than 10 years ago. you could easily pay over a hundred pounds ($150) just for a gigabyte of RAM back then - now you can pick up a gigabyte for a tenner ($15).

RE: #15

Well, I have 1.25 GB of RAM. I would think that is more than adequate.

No extraneous processes running. Mystery to me.

Actually 1.25GB of RAM may not enough depending upon what operating system you are running.

How do I uninstall. Not working on Windows 7 -64?

....................Moderator comment............................

Just delete the installed folder. Though it does work on the two Win 7 64 bit computers I installed it to (a pro and an Ultimate version). Maybe you could check some of the suggestions I've made which I've belatedly posted at the bottom of todays review.

The game reminds me of Turtle Odessey which was offered here a long time back. Good game

Got this one as a freebie from iWin as a member of their game club. I'm not very good at platformers, since my reflexes are so-so, but it's a fun game, and a great break from "serious" games. Definitely give it a try!

I made a suggestion in the feedback but it doesn't show yet so I thought I'd post here as well.

It would be nice to be able to configure the keyboard and mouse controls the way we want. We are controlling 3 keys with the right hand and only 1 key with the left.

Other than that, this is a fantastic game.

I'm using a W7 64 bit NVidia graphics card with recommended screen resolution on a 21" monitor and having no problems loading or playing. Graphics drivers are from end of 2009.

ThanksNgartplay. I too posted some suggestions early this morning. Looka like whoever moderates the suggestions box has gone to sleep, lol.

I love Turtix! I had it before and lost it to a crash. So glad to have it back. Also love Alawar and glad to have them back.
I am also a BIG fan of the Brave Dwarfs and lost my large collection of their games. Would love to see them return as giveaways.
Thanks for all your hard work, White Rabbit and to GOTD for so many great games through the years.

Yes a couple of the brave dwarves games wouldn't go amiss; pity that's another developer.

I'm with you guys, it's great to see Alawar participating. I've been enjoying the version of Turtix I got from MyPlayCity before they changed their policies, but even then I had to use my security software to block it from launching my browser every time I quit the game. It'll be awesome to have a version without that garbage. :D

This version's been visually glitchy, too, even though my installed drivers for Win 7 Pro are only about a year old (ATI Radeon HD 5850) -- it'll play windowed or fullscreen but tends to crash a good bit if it's fullscreen. Even windowed, I've seen it apparently run out of memory on my 6-gig system.

I love platform games, and this one has been fun to explore with its pleasant music & good sound effects. Here's hoping the glitches are just a problem MyPlayCity introduced when they added their own junk to the code. :)

Sounds like you have a reasonable system. Have you been getting any graphical glitches playing any other games? It may be your graphic card fans need cleaning. I neglected to clean the fans on my two old NVIDIA 9600's that were in my secondary computer. I failed to see the sighns after some glitches that appeared to get better, then they went altoghether. They were so bad the fans jammed and my cards were destroyed due to overheating. Check them urgently just in case. Even if the fans are working, they may be slowed due to a build up of dust. It's amazing how thick the finest of dust can build up on the vanes of the fan. I regularily clean all of my fans now using cans of compressed air, and if necessary a toothlike brush with soft bristles. Make sure they are not clogged up with dust.

It looks to me like this requires a minimum resolution of 1024x768. It runs great on my desktop, but I can't get it to run on a netbook with a maximum graphics resolution of 1024x600. I had the same issues that are reported by #11. It then defaulted to a 600x480 screen that only showed a portion of the interface and none of the controls could be accessed. Changing the resolution in the .dso preferences did not work. Anybody get this working on a computer with a maximum screen resolution less than 1024x768?

...................Moderator Comment..................

I though it sounded like resolution problems. Thanks for the actual figures Campy.

Installed and plays fine on WinXP.

Reminds me of Turtle Odyssey - is this the same company that made that?

Cute and fun arcade game - a definite keeper.

Thanks, always appreciate anything free.

No Turtle Odyssey was created by Realore studios. Which reminds me, if you have a free membership to realore you can download their free friday game. This weeks it's Aqua Words:
