What a wonderful game - just finished it over the week!
For the developers, some issues to mention:
1. Game starts very slowly (Win 7 64-bit), but runs very smoothly
2. A mistake in room 26: Couldn't collect the piece of glowing coal from the armchair on the left side. 1 piece was always missing in the "find" section, but however the game coould be terminated.
3. Would be a great option to select and play the little games (puzzles etc) once the game is finished.
:-))

This one of the best games I played. Excellent graphics, nice story, good puzzles.
However the story part in between could have been faster.

Enjoyed this one. This is a pleasant hidden object game, with sufficient variety to keep you going for the four or so hours it takes. The characters are spooky, but this has zero impact on the game. It gets a little repetitive, but not too badly before it all finishes. Zero replay value, so in a way that's an encouragement to complete the game and delete it to free up space.
Will probably check out the others in the series, so thanks for pointing them out Stephen.
I did manage to break the game logic at one point, when I had one more coal to find, and yet had the coals in my 'Use' list.
Another good game from dependable Alawar.

Great game !
I played the first one, then this one and the Ghost Ship one, and I really enjoy them, I like the gameplay, graphics, what could I say ? I can't wait for a new episode ! Maybe a spin-off about Nicky's adventure to find her familly?
Two suggestions:
- maybe sometimes (not always) hide parts of one object in different screen,
- same idea about minigames, begin a minigame in screen 1, continue it in screen 2, come back in screen 1, and an ending in screen 3 ? (just for 1 minigame), but not for all minigames, only a few ^^
Maybe you shouldn't follow these ideas, your work is great :p
I'll continue to follow you.

I was hesitant to download due to the size of the game, but took a risk. I'm glad I did! I'm not a fan of purely HOG, but enjoy ones that have a puzzle aspect, as this one does. I really enjoyed the gameplay and was pleased with the length of the game itself. The one thing I would have liked to have seen is better hints of what needs to be done, especially later in the game. By the last part, there were 4+ locations and I was going back and forth, trying to find the one thing I could click on to make something happen. That went beyond challenging into the realm of frustration.

Well done Alawar.
Thank you as always WhiterabbitUK. Your review is spot on. The story is a bit, hmmmm, but everything else makes up for that. Actually, it's better than any current programmes on USA telly. Thinking about that, when you yesterday mentioned the download speeds, and said "US is starting to wake up" ... well .... you don't know how true that is. But, only just. ~Paul~

This game has great graphics and a nice variety of hidden object puzzles with other challenging puzzles. The only improvement would be the lack of clarity on what needs to be accomplished next. On the lighthouse scenes I could see the last of the items I needed to collect but could not click on it until the lamp was cleaned but it kept indicating that I needed to do something other than clean the lamp. It also wasn't terribly clear on the story-line as far as how the indian girl played into it and the shaman and who was the villain and everything. Not at all bad though everything considered.

Game installed fine on Win 8 laptop. Was able to install on D: drive and stay off C: (SSD). Game does not know how to work with dual monitor system, can't move the window, requires I set screens to clone mode. The mouse locked up a couple times during game play, but unstuck when I launched task mgr, and stayed working when I closed task mgr. So far the game is amusing and easy to play. Now at the point of ironing the papers dry, and feel like it is getting a little too repetitive.
Thank you.

If like me you enjoy HOGs, then get this game!
The objects are not impossible to find, hints are readily available, puzzles are just annoying enough to still be fun, and the storyline and characters are not too annoying either.
Personally I think this one is right up there with Mystery of Mortlake Mansion as a cracking little HOG/adventure game. I've just played getting on for three hours solid and have only JUST found the first of the four Big Items!
I thoroughly recommend this one: I haven't needed any walkthroughs (yet!) to get me out of being stuck, and I'm really enjoying it AND looking forward to finishing it. Definite 9 out of 10 from me!

Hi!
Downloaded easy and opened 1,2, 3! Runs smoothly. The games itself is somewhat easy play. Parts of it are too easy and other parts have slight difficulty locating. Since not hard that just wastes time to me.
Thanks for another good game and have a good week all!

Also I'd like to thank GOTD for this game. Apparently at night the connection is a bit faster here. Here the mountains create problems for the signal and slow down the connection drastically at times. But with a good download manager it works better. EagleGet is quite good and clean too. Lovely games with gorgeous graphics.

OK, finally got it to install. New version of Comodo Internet Security installed yesterday after MSIE update broke the old one and it is awful. Blocks EVERYTHING and doesn't tell you squat! Had to dig into its menus to find what it has been blocking and everything else it messed up. I will have to think over whether or not to renew it again or get another one that is not so "hidden". (Obviously made for PC newbies.)

Huge file but downloaded fine. As usual, Alawar does it right! Everything extracts into one folder, nice and clean. I wish all programs did that. The graphics look beautiful, even in windowed mode as I like to often play but full screen seems to serve this game much better. Not a lot of time to play today but really looking forward to dive into this game.
Thank you Alawar, the GG team and, as always, Stephen for your efforts.

I downloaded this from JenKat a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed playing it. I thought it was a more challenging game than the earlier Treasures of Mystery Island and I couldn't understand why that one had a higher starred review on Gamezebo than this. The graphics are excellent and some of the puzzles genuinely puzzling (!). I suppose if there is a criticism it's that it isn't all that easy to identify with the characters (they are a bit two-dimensional to say the least), but I normally play these sorts of games for the fun of playing rather than to get too involved with the characters - there are notable exceptions, but in this case I think the game is well worth putting up with the characters.
All in all, I think it's a great game and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzles and HOGs in all their various forms.

In Brief:
Installation:
The download size is 207 MB and once installed is 492 Mb. (The reason it's so large {for an arcade game} is because of the textures used within the game plus several video sequences). The downloaded zip file unpacks to a read me that states the terms and conditions as well as a dual activation and set up file, plus a security file (setup.gcd), Clicking on the orange set up file will automatically register the game. By default the game installs to:
C:\Games\TheTreasuresofMysteryIsland_game
There is no shortcut installed to the desktop or Start menu. Make sure you make a note of where the game installs to so that you can create a shortcut once the game has installed. You can choose to install it anywhere by changing the install path during the installation wizards progress.
I've tested the game on Vista, Win 7 and Win 8.1.
Introduction
Reference accessed HERE 5th Dec 08
The Game:
Alex and Lisa pick up where they left off in the first game: collecting objects and solving puzzles on a mysterious island.
Some people just seem to attract trouble. Take Alex and Lisa, a young couple who have stumbled from one mysterious island adventure (2008’s The Treasures of Mystery Island) to another. To reveal the main plot device that drives the action here would be to spoil an early twist, so all you really need to know is that The Treasures of Mystery Island: The Gates of Fate offers more of the same accomplished hidden object game play.
This time Alex and Lisa find themselves separated on the aforementioned mysterious island after the intervention of a tricksy shaman. This sets about a fine (if nonsensical) cooperative adventure as our heroes bid to reunite and return home.
It isn’t spoiling too much to reveal that your quest involves the collection of four tiles from the magical gateway that got you into this mess. These are spread throughout the island, but the bulk of your time will be spent carrying out relatively mundane – if ingenious - tasks such as repairing bridges, drying out papers and chopping fire wood.
As this suggests, The Gates of Fate adopts the same approach to the HOG genre as its predecessor – that is that each bout of locating scattered objects contributes more to the game than just ticking off an arbitrary list. Rather, you’ll be collecting each of the components and tools for the aforementioned bridge repair, and you’ll need to recall where in an earlier scene you saw the chunks of wood for the chopping task.
This highlights to another of the features that has been carried over from the previous game. Your hand is held a lot less than in others games of this type, as you’re often expected to use your initiative and powers of recollection to determine where to go next. If you like your HOGs to wrap everything up in tidy, level-based solutions then this isn’t the game for you. There’s a lot of toing and froing just to solve the simplest of puzzles.
As you’d expect from a modern hidden object game, there’s also a fair smattering of mini-games to keep things fresh. While these prove to be the downfall of many, in The Treasures of Mystery Island: The Gates of Fate the hits manage to outnumber the misses. From lining up map templates to a fiendish rotation-based puzzle there’s commendable imagination on show in many of the game’s diversions. The ones that stump you (or annoy you) too much can be skipped at no penalty, other than to your completion rating.
Some of the irritations on show here are tougher to overlook. Quite a few of the puzzles go that little bit too far with their demands on you, sending you wandering through previous scenes with scant direction or justification. In a similar way, many of the puzzles contain unnecessary extra steps that just serve to frustrate, such as having to find something to pin back a tree branch in order to allow the sun’s rays through.
As hinted at before, the story is fairly ridiculous, with many of the puzzle setups clunkily handled and ineffectually justified. This isn’t helped by the two bland lead characters, with the spud-headed Alex and the Barbie doll-meets-extra-terrestrial Lisa wholly failing to engage. You’ll want to see the next puzzle, but you won’t care if the two protagonists ever see each other again.
Despite these shortcomings though, The Treasures of Mystery Island: The Gates of Fate is another enjoyable slice of HOG adventure. Like the prequel, it manages to lend purpose to finding and collecting a bunch of discarded stuff. By incorporating elements of the classic point ‘n’ click adventure genre, it extends its challenge and appeal considerably.

Conclusion:
The Treasures of Mystery Island: The Gates of Fate is a well constructed Hidden Object game with gorgeous graphics and puzzles. The average arcade lover should be able to solve these puzzles fairly easily.
As mentioned in the main review, some of the puzzles can get frustrating, but these are minor irritations. I'm not a particular lover of HOG games, but enjoyed playing this for an hour earlier this morning. I will be keeping it for later. I've scored the game an average of 7.6 out of 10 taking several parameters into consideration. For pure gameplay I gave it a score of 8. :)
Scoring:
Game play: 8
Graphics: 9
Audio: 7
Re-playability: 7
Originality: 7
38 out of 50 = 7.6 out of 10

It may also be a good idea to post details of any problems you have over in the game discussion forums. You can find the The Treasures of Mystery Island: The Gates of Fate thread HERE
If you see someone's query and are able to answer them, would you please post a comment here and if it's late in the day (i.e. 8+ hours past the giveaway start) also post in the thread I've linked to HERE. I ask this because fewer community members visit the site later in the day, so questions are less likely to be answered satisfactorily; also, my moderation is likely to be very sporadic today so answers to queries may not appear for many hours.

These bundles are the best way to get unbeatable bargains, with most games averaging out at less than a dollar each. You can often get hundreds of dollars worth of games for around $5 or less. (e.g. November/December 2012 THQ sold their entire recent catalogue worth almost $500 for less than $6 and last Spring there was a Humble Bundle Origin bundle that included premium games like Battlefield 3 and other top EA games such as Medal of Honor, Dead Space, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, The Sims 3 etc for around $5). Codemasters joined the bundle scene last year as well. I recommend the Bundle Stars bundles which you'll find HERE. The following bundles are still available and cost between £2.19 to £3.59 per bundle:
Mumbo Jumbo Bundle (arcade games), {Luxor 5th Passage, Luxor 2 HD, Pickers, Midnight Mysteries, Midnight Mysteries: Devil on the Mississippi, 7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover, Discovery! A Seek and Find Adventure, Little Farm, Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials, Midnight Mysteries: Haunted Houdini}

I played all of these for hundreds of hours back in the early 2000's}
Reboot 2.0 Bundle, {Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, Afterfall Insanity Extended Edition, Disciples III: Renaissance, Galaxy on Fire 2 Full HD, Sniper: Ghost Warrior Gold Edition, Tower Wars}
RPG Champions Bundle, {Two Worlds II, Pirates of the Flying Fortress DLC, Two Worlds Epic Edition, Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator, Enclave, Gorky 17}

Reboot 1.0 Bundle, {Dark Sector, GTR Evolution, Space Pirates and Zombies, Dino D-Day, Dream Pinball 3D, SpaceChem, SpaceChem: 63 Corvi DLC}
I'm sure most community members will find some games amongst the above that they would enjoy.
Please note that if you download any games from the free games sites Gametop, Jenkat Games, FreeGamePick and MyPlayCity you need to watch out for toolbar installations, weird installation configurations, browser changes and home page hijacks. Just un-check the check boxes during installation to avoid these, though sometimes they change their policies and you may still find stuff installed. Download from these sites at your own risk.
