Great game! Cool addition to the arkanoid theme with the moving block guys!

It is a too easy (first time I played I got to the 40th level or so) and there are some bugs (I stopped playing when it crashed to desktop). But I enjoyed the time up to then.

Needs the ability to launch game with a single keystroke ('1') and it would be arcade cab friendly. But other then that...

Very nice gift! Somehow it didn't seem as boring as a lot of brickbreakers do, & yet wasn't so hard I couldn't keep up with it. :) Thank you very much! I think even my 6 yr old grandchild will like it too! :)

Thanks, GAOTD... will try this one again, but I also experienced a dizzy spell (that doesn't happen to me often w/ games) because of the spinning, moving target. I'll give it another shot when I haven't had an eggnog. Lol!

First download I downloaded from here, gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with this game. It's a pretty good brick breaking game, but not my type. Still great quality for a game though.

Can't really tell about this game. I've tried all the available video settings, but the targets and bonuses are all black or gray, though the ball has color and the background looks okay. Without color it looks very dark and very boring.

I suspect it is a problem with my system somehow (Vista Home Premium on a gateway laptop), or this game wouldn't hvae gotten such good reviews. Any suggestions or ideas as to what the problem is?

Alawar games are the best, so I don't think it's the game. Looks like I"d give it a big thumbs up if I didn't have this problem. Any ideas?

Hi everyone!

I know it is late. Just a quick note, I love breakout games, and one of the all-time best breakout games in my opinion, is called Break Quest, a video, and the demo can be downloaded from www.nurium.com It has an extremely realistic physics engine, with the ball bouncing off of powerups/powerdowns, things you hit bouncing around, scattering, and bouncing off of each other. In my opinion, this is DEFINITELY worth the cost to register, and GGAOTD, if you can get it, I would highly recommend it.

Thanks

My review of Time Breaker:

When I saw this on the site, I thought: Oh, not, not another Breakout game! Why did they have to give us this for Christmas! I was wrong. This is more than just another Breakout clone - in fact, its originality is second only to that of BreakQuest.

Many Breakout games have been made in 3D, but this is more of a Paper Mario 3D. While the objects in the levels are 3D, the ball interacts with them in a 2D way. For example, if two objects are spinning around each other, the visual gaps between the walls, them, and each other define the playing space. The ever-changing levels are what really make this game fun.

As for the graphics, well, the level models wouldn't texture on my computer. However, judging from the screenshots, they look relatively shiny and decent.

The sound is the best in a Breakout game since, well, BreakQuest. I love the way the ball clicks when it hits the blocks, the effects for the powerups(which, by the way, didn't show up on my computer), and the music. The music is as good as that in the recent Magnussoft games that we've gotten(it's weird that I'm using Magnussoft as a standard, since practically everything that they make is horrible), being unobtrusive without being boring or droney.

Since its levels are so varied, I can't find a unified theme, but the menu graphics and "LOADING" clock don't appeal to me. Neither does the fact that everything seems to float in the sky. The name is also weird, suggesting some kind of time-changing option as used in Blinx, when the only relation to it is the aforementioned clock. These are small faults, though, and the game is otherwise superb.

Overall, I give Time Breaker a score of eight out of ten(nine for gameplay, eight for graphics, nine for sound, and six for theme). Its originality guarantees a space on my hard drive(which will soon be cleared of the other 3D Breakout games that I have), and definite worth as a Christmas present. Maybe I'm just scoring it high because it's Christmas and I'm happy, but I think that it really is that good. Thank you, Spell of Play and Game Giveaway of the Day, and merry Christmas to everyone!

Small side note: The dev team makes a cameo as a mariachi band in one of the earlier levels.

>Lennartt

At least try this one. It's good.

I am a huge fan of brick-busting, breakout type games - rebound, rebound lost worlds, recharged, infinity, etc. so any time I can play one that is decent I'm happy. I like to vary them up so it's nice to have a new one to play. The graphics are a bit outdated but that is made up for by other effects such as the 3D. I guess I just like breaking things that I don't have to later pick up lol. Thanks GGOTD and Merry Christmas all. I also happen to like Alawar as they are the least buggy and most polished in general of the offerings for me.

Have to say this one is pretty good. Love the graphics. IMHO the best of all the Alawar brick breaker games. Someone at Alawar put some thought into this game. Most creative and entertaining.

Heck, I'd even considering paying for it, but not more than about U.S. $10.

GAME FREEZES DESKTOP PC & HOGS CPU. Same general problems as some of the folks above (#15, #28, #31 & #32). I have a custom built desktop PC (ASUS motherboard, 3000+ AMD Athlon cpu, 1 gb ram, Win XP Pro SP2, Avast Antivirus & immunizations by both Spyware Blaster & Spybot [not the Tea Timer feature on the latter] and an older BFG nVidia GeForce 5700LE graphics card). The game will try to load, auto changes the resolution [downward], gets to the 1% load mark and the PC will freeze with the splash screen, no Blue Screen). The only way to regain control is the Crtl-Alt-Del sequence, then "End" the "Time Breaker" task [which is stubborn and will not terminate], then click on the "Processes" tab, scroll down and find this game's ".exe" entry and then kill the task from there. The display will revert back to its original [higher] resolution and then returns to the desktop. Under the "Processes" tab, the game's ".exe" entry shows it consuming 99% of the CPU's resources. Too bad it will not work, really wanted to give it a go.

I have never had trouble with Alawar games before but, just like a couple of people above, this game would not work on one of our machines but works perfectly on the other.

The machines are identical spec but do have lots of different programs and applications installed. Maybe it's a conflict issue?

Well, I do seem to be having problems today. First I had the (unresolved) problem reported on an XP machine in comment #15, then, when I installed it on a Vista Premium laptop, the game seemed to install fine, but when I go to play it the targets and the powerups are entirely black. The area on the right side of the playing board shows colors, as do the ball and background, but the pad, and target blocks in the actual playing area are all black. I wonder if it has something to do with shadowing or shading which might be used to create the 3-D effect????

Great game! I am a big fan of Magic Ball 3, but this one is a little different with the moving "target" action -- makes for a lot of fun. I changed the graphics setting from the default 800x600 to 1024x768. Had no problems with install or play on XP SP2 with an ATI Radeon 9600, but when I quit the game, it took a few seconds for all my desktop icons to reappear. Almost freaked when they were not there, but I have never had any video problems with games from Alawar so was happy when they returned. Anyone with video problems, I suggest you check to see if there are any new driver updates. I have found that driver updates will sometimes help with video problems.

Thank you Game GAOTD and Alawar -- Happy Holidays to you all!

Experienced the same fault as comment # 15:
Game loading screen stays at 1% for a long time, then Windows XP Pro SP2 crashes to a Blue Screen Of Death, stating the system has to shut down while making a physical memory dump to disk.
Comment #15 has a nVidea graphics card, I have an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card, so my first guess is it should not be directly connected to that.

This is a very imaginative and enjoyable game. Took me a while to realize that gravity would pull the ball towards you when you click the left mouse button, and that it could be very useful when you can get the ball above the targets. Wish I could get it running on my wife's computer. :^(
Thanks GAOTD and Alawar!

I am personally a fan of breakout-style games (addiction started while playing 'brick' on my old palm 500), and I can say very well that this is one of the top games in this category that I have seen yet! Sure, the graphics may be a little oldish, but that's still not detracting from my overall wow. Egyptoid 2 is moving down a slot, this little guy is moving up :D

One thing that really stood out, by the way, was the time limit on most everything. To me, that added an extra level of fun to the game, as I now have to make the best of everything that comes my way! Thanks, Alawar and GAOTD!

so, yeah, Merry Christmas, God Bless, and Vote Huckabee

Installed on Vista 32-bit. Game loads fine, but for some reason does not recognize my mouse. The game cursor is visible in upper left of screen, but does not respond to mouse movement. Only way I could get out of game was to hit Windows key, which opens start menu and returns to desktop, then end process in Task Manager. Anyone have any ideas for dealing with this problem? I have no problems with the use of this standard USB-installed mouse in any other context.

Worth the download...

although the graphics can get a little freaky...

on level 5 with the animated pharaohs I had an eyeball moving back and forth...

But very fun to play and most of the animations are pretty cool and do make it a little more challenging the some of the other breakout games...

For some reason, this game keeps crashing on my wife's computer (XP Pro SP2) with an eGate nVidia GeForce 7300 PCI Express video card. It changes the screen resolution, starts to load, shows loading 1% for a minute, and then crashes to a blue screen with text. Unfortunately, the screen shows very briefly and pressing pause or print screen does not interupt the automatic reboot process. The only thing I can think of to get an idea of what the mrssage was telling me would be to take a picture in the brief second it comes up.
Almost all the other games work fine (with the exception of The SIMs deluxe, which allways hangs.) Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just a friendly warning to those downloading this game. I was alright until I got to the spinning truck level, then I experienced a dizzy spell which I think was related to the game play. I have never ever felt that before...so be wary...

I assumed this was going to be another one of Alawar's processor hoggers (Strike Ball 2 Deluxe, Hyperspace Invader, Crusaders of Space 2, etc), but I was pleasantly surprised to see how smoothly it ran. The gameplay is very original - although the way the sturtures move doesn't play out as well as one would initially assume. The graphics are horrible - they look pre-21st century. This is unusual, because Alawar games usually have amazing graphics, whether 2D or 3D. This is a decent game - I'm not rating it, because I'm very neutral on it.

This is the very first offering my son and I got from this site. It is an awesome game. I played it clear through and restarted on the next difficulty level and never got bored with it. I still revisit it from time to time. Each level is animated and comes with a brief description which adds to the fun. Definitely one to keep!

Thanks again, Alawar and GGOTD!!

This is definitely a keeper, thanks GGOTD. Can't understand the 'thumbs down'.

Nice physcadelic graphics, music okay, and a little bit different to the norm with the animated bricks. A couple of funny spellings, a quirky options changer (multi clicks to change resolution!) but it's good.

Works on Vista.

Merry Christmas everyone. Todays review is kust a port from my original comment from the first time this was given away. It's short and sweet.
The whole family loved this game when it was first released. If you play it on easy, the game is rather sedate, but there are other settings that make this a very attractive game. Apart from the themes, the great graphics and animated bricks there’s a lovely soundtrack that cycles through several pleasant tunes, that really put you in the mood to play the game. A beautiful 3D arkanoid clone with lots of playability; (In my opinion of course). I’d recommend anyone to download it and at least try it as it’s free. It was one of the top selling Arkanoids at Alawar for several months when it was first released. I just wish they had a bigger stock as apart from a few, I’ve got them all.

The game has three player settings and I can guarantee that unless you are an expert at arkanoid, you’ll find the hard setting very challenging. You get bonus’ for the number of balls you have left, whether you’ve had a perfect level, the number of ball bounces before having to hit the bat again as well as other bonuses. There’s 26 power ups including a gravity ball, flame thrower, rockets and the other usual bonus’s. There’s 150 levels so it’ll keep you occupied for a while. Good one GoTD and Alawar.

Alawar have just released Hyperballoid 2, which I beta tested and can highly recommend it, especially if you are an arkanoid freak like myself.. It's far better than the original. It comes with 200 levels and a fantastic levels editor. I bought it as soon as it was released earlier today. Until tomorrow (as with all Alawar games) you can get 30% of the full price.

I'd better go as were off to visit in an hour or so.

Have a beautiful day folks.

Anyone having problems with the game I recommended yesterday, the freeware game called squarez, I forgot to mention about the lack of an installer :opps: I reposted details later in the day if your interested. :)
