Finished the treasure map, did all the new levels that this revealed, found all the hidden treasure... now what?
I haven't seen any sort of end sequence. All I can do now is play the parts of the treasure map that I've already played (or close the programme of course).
Am I missing something? Or is this it?

Thank you for your feedback Jerry. How much game play time would you estimate you had out of this free game? Not sure where you go from here. I never got to the end of the game as I found it a little tedious. (Also I have too many much better games to play).

#37 - yes.
And it seems to have the same issues with the cursor being too finicky (although not as bad as The Great Pharaoh) and the backgrounds going screwy after a few seconds (probably some issue with my graphics card).
In the first few rounds I was having difficulty because I found that the wheel icon on dark tiles looked too different from when it was in a light tile and I didn't realize they were the same.
Anyway, it's an okay game but not good enough for me to want to pay even $10 for it.
So thank you GGotD

Win 7 64 bit --- installed ok, but did get the Windows warning that it may not have installed properly, just responded that it did install ok. When I went to create a shortcut, did notice that it was installed directly in c:\games not in c:\games\theflyingdutchman so I created my own subdirectory and moved the .exe file and \Data subfolder from c:\games into the new folder to keep things tidy -- worked fine after moving it, no issues with doing so.

Games works well, colors are ok, actually prefer them to the bolder (obnoxious) colors in some games. Like that windowed mode isn't a tiny little window like some games, it's a decently viewable size and doesn't require resolution change to be able to see it without a magnifier. Also glad to see that you can turn off the music and sound.

Unfortunately, did find game play itself to get boring rather quickly, more variety may be needed to retain player interest.

I don't have enough time tonight to check this out, but want to wish you and family get well wishes. Saw your comment about they are free. Yes, and any time available all appreciate whether it be regular or once in awhile. Am still playing last week's western one, which have been enjoying. Thank you again for the free games!! Checked out realore and looks like a nice site also. Another problem with any games in this day and age is fear of viruses etc. You seem to always check them out and feel much safer getting them here than other sites.

I was really pleased to see this game rolling around again. Last time it was offered I had a few things to say but did not get around to saying them in a timely manner.

Last time there was a good deal of criticism for the dull, dark colors. I actually like the colors, but I am particularly pleased with the complexity of the tile design. It is far more visually interesting than the really simple primary colored "gems" that so many match3s use.

And I really like the skulls, which are a nice twist on the standard problems-which-stand-in-the-player's-way. It took me a bit to realize that they were not just a barrier; they were also an opportunity.

However, I thought the game too quickly got to the point where the only challenge left was the timer. Have you considered adding a little more variety/complexity to some of the layouts? I have played other games where I had to, for example, figure out how to get the tiles to fall down a really narrow corridor, or move the tiles horizontily. These are the Match3s I keep going back to because a few weeks or months after playing them, I forget what the trick was to finishing each individual board. That way it is both an old friend and a new challenge. Just being yelled at to move faster isn't as much fun. As always, YMMV.

Thank you to everyone whose posted well wishes. I appreciate that very much.

I've not been able to reply to most queries that have been posted, just a few that were really only to set a few users straight on the fact that this game does have a relaxed mode. (Thanks Lee for pointing that out to Reality check) :) Just spending time in front of the monitor really makes me woozy

I'm sure there will be some community members who can answer most questions, plus there is the FAQ's section in the Game Discussion forums that I linked to at the top of the 'Games Games and yet more Games' section near the bottom of the review at comment #1

I will be posting tomorrows review as well, but the way things are going at the moment, the same conditions will apply. i apologise for this but know that you all understand. :)

Hey! I have to say I was happy when I saw this game repeated. I got it the previous time and thoroughly enjoyed it, but 2-3 months ago it stopped working. One day I decided to adjust the sound volume and after that it would load up but would crash when I clicked on Play. Frustrating.

There is no listing for it in Add/Remove Programs so I moved all the folders for this game to the Recycle Bin and downloaded it again. To no avail - it crashes exactly the same way. This leads me to believe it is not the game files, but an issue with the Registry.

I am smart enough to know you don't go wading into the Registry without a plan. I do not have any Registry cleaning type software because honestly I don't know of any particular one I'd trust enough not to do too much, or allow me in my ignorance to do damage.

Does anyone know how to remove this game cleanly so I can reload it before the deadline? If not, no biggie. I like it, but it's just a game. I have plenty of other great games I've been lucky enough to get from GGoTD. ;-D

Thank you!

I find this to be a very nice match 3 game. Some players mentioned it would be good to have a non-timed mode which I would normally agree with. However, I am playing "relaxed" and there does not appear to be any time limit on that so either I am missing something or they just didn't see that option.

The ghosts really do change it up and make me quite glad there is a relaxed mode as they can be a bit frustrating if there is more than one move to be made to keep them happy then you just have to choose the one you think will work best for you.

I would like to see the icons be a little more varied in their color scheme as it can be harder to see the next move.

Overall a good game that I hadn't seen before and am glad I got the chance to get it.

Thank you to this site and the developers.

Fun Game. Downloaded it last time. (8 yr old)Grandson & I each have separate profiles so we can see who is progressing faster and not disturb the other's game.

I am not particularly technical so have a question to ask. Once I have a GGOTD game downloaded and activated, can I safely delet the zip file? My HD is getting full and as a result, slowing down my machine. I am just not ready to invest in a newer laptop at this time.

I have been experimenting with a thumb drive and found that some GGOTD games will download and activate and run from there. There was one that was just W..A..Y too SLOW when running from the thumb drive, so gave up and put it on the HD. (it was a platform game). The 3 most recent games seem to be functioning perfectly this way. In fact, I went ahead and downloaded today's game again, putting it on the Thumb Drive instead of the HD (where it already resided). I was delighted to see that it had saved our progress from the already downloaded version. I went back to my HD and deleted it from there and tried again and was tickled to see that our progress was still there!!

I completely go along with #6 Realty Check(love that name by the way!)this game AND other needs a relaxed mode. I too have problems with running out of time because of "real-life" things going on. Also creating more contrast between the tiles as whiterabbit stated as it would make it somewhat easier. Thank you Star Ashes and GGOTD for your work! It is appreciated!

...........................Moderator comment.....................

Hi Teri, you obviously didn't read my review, or Lee's comment #14 in reply to Reality Check's. There is a relaxed mode. When you click on play it takes you to the level map. Look to the right hand colum where it will say welcom then the profile name. Below that it says Game Mode. you can choose from Quest, which is a timed mode or relazxed which is untimed.

Thanks Whiterabbit for the post even in your condition. That's the bane of school teachers & parents - the ping pong kid illness. Rest is best cure. Rem the old saying, That which doesn't kill ya.....
Ok Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Ran from D drive, create a shortcut.
Like that you can swap Timed to Relaxed for each level as go along. That timed fuse can be a real prod or pain. Played first one Relaxed and no ghosts. Second map tried Timed and mess of ghosts came along in Normal setting. The bomb doesn't seem to break a cage by the way if exploded alongside one. The cursed cage doesn't last long tho. Haven't quite got the hang of what sets off a ghost since have done March 3s all around them and suddenly a sting of cages will occur off another ghost several lines away. Very hard to nail 3 ghosts. A.I. does seem to play fair but on Timed the last piece didn't seem to get many helpful nearby pieces as fuse was running down.
Colors not a problem, nice shapes so far. Given the ability to swap modes this is a keeper. 7.75/10
Thanks Ashes & GOTD. Let's see what Sunday brings.

FEEL BETTER PLEASE WHITERABBIT! Downloaded and installed using Win7 64bit however did get the Windows prompt asking if I wanted to install using recommended settings which I chose. Typical match 3 game with nice graphics and gameplay. I'd downloaded this game on my other computer and lost it when the computer went kaput! Thanks for repeating some of the best games. It gives me a chance to play them again. Thanks GGOTD and whiterabbit for another keeper.

Last time I gave a thumbs down for uninspired gameplay, but after testing i revisited my opinion. The game is very well done. I like the animations of the items and the averall graphics. Gameplay is similar to all that other match 3 games, but in this game it works very addicitive. Many thanks for this pearl!

#9: "On Win 7 pro – 64 bit.

Program loads, and shows the logo then minimises to taskbar. Tried XP compatability mode, force run in 640×480 setting, but still no success."

Using VirtualBox running in win7 ult 64 SP1, the game runs in a win7 32 VM [Virtual Machine] where I can monitor it -- unfortunately the game doesn't appear to write any logs, which is what I was hoping/looking for -- those logs (if they were created) might have given a hint or two about what went wrong. Usually when a GOTD game fails to run in win7's XPMode VM where I usually test them 1st, either silently failing or crashing outright, it's because the game didn't find the D3D support it needed.

Have this game from before and enjoy it. It runs on my W7 64bit machine without problems.

Relaxed and Timed modes keep this interesting and you can change players after you select PLAY. You get a screen that says 'Hi Matey', or whatever your player name is. Click on it and you can change it.

First whiterabbit, all the best and take care, hope you'll recover soon.

About the game:
I like the shady kind of colours, that makes a difference.
Sometimes at matching 3, and not next to a ghost, the chain reaction of the new tiles appearing at the top caused a freeze up by the gosts which can't be stopped nor prevented. Once there was no chance to move anything and I had to wait some (precious ;-)) time before they cleared.
A bit of variety would also make the game a bit nicer.

The graphics are very nice.
In all for me a 7 out of 10.

It runs smoothly on my XPSP3 pc.

Whiterabbit - my prayers for you and your family for a speedy recovery. And, a BIG THANKS for all your hard work in procuring these games. It's something you don't HAVE TO DO and rather than people griping about repeats or the style of the games, they need to realize that you go above and beyond what others do in providing free games by giving your time and effort, not only in procurement, but in analyzing the game play. I still have this from last time and was surprised at how often I found myself playing it. It's a nice spin on your average match 3 games. Just remember that ghosts are skeletons (and it seems like there is some other mislabeled item)

I sympathize with the repeated giveaways explanation in comment response #2. Maybe you could recruit some people from the forum or even me (My real email was provided.) to act as marketers to get some fresh giveaways here. I bet GOG would be willing to give us a free one no and then and maybe even Steam would once a year. Wouldn't it be nice if this was truly a game giveaway a day? You may have to recruit an addition moderator/reviewer. :-) I know of a couple of girls who frequent here and are active in the forum that would be good.

I like match 3 games... so I do like the game. It does have a couple of visibility issues.

I agree with the *more contrast* between tiles suggestion above.,, possibly another pixel of 3 between them also.

The curser for me is on the annoying side.. kind of clunky looking and feeling while using it.

Also, when running in full screen mode - I somehow expect the game screen to come a little closer to screen size rather than a small panel in the center with a lot of distracting background graphic behind the actual game.

download and installation to Win 7 .. no problems, it did ask me if the game installed properly, which it did.

I encountered no tool bar addons to uncheck (ty)

A short cut icon would have been a nice touch, but making shortcuts is no big deal.

@6 - Reality Check, take your name seriously and read White Rabbit's post, where you'll see the following text: "Once you’ve created your first profile you can then choose between two different modes of play, Quest, which is time limited and Relaxed which isn’t." (2nd-last sentence in the 2nd paragraph under 'The Game' heading)...;-$

@9 - Peter Holgate, Sometimes stuff does similar things on my 32-bit XP Pro - and it's usually run perfectly well before. Bringing up the Task Manager to end the program can let it run straight away, but I usually have to run Advanced System Care first. But I sometimes have to shut down and restart. Hope that helps.

Offer the choice of a relaxed mode without the pressure of a timer. When one is playing a game while also having to be attentive to real-life things going on, the pressure of a timer makes it hell to play & it's absolutely infuriating when one loses the game running out of time because of the necessity of diverting attention from the game to real-life things going on. It would be so MUCH more funj to play the game without the constant pressure & anxiety of worrying about the timer or the frustration of failure at the game because one was distracted by a real-life situation requiring attention. And I'm sure I'm not the only ADHD person out here who feels this way.

............................Moderator Comment.........................

Thank you for your suggestion. As mentioned previously (i.e. when 4Elements was given away) you can always pause the game if you have real life situations to attend to. I do agree, it would be really nice if all match 3's had an un-timed mode included, but then again, if you don't like games with only a timed mode then don't bother playing it. At least you didn't have to pay for this game, and usually you will get the opportunity to check out a game via a demo to see if it has an un-timed mode before deciding to purchase it. There are loads of match 3's available (several via MyPlayCity) that do have an un-timed mode.

This sounds absolutely marvellous, but does it in fact actually mean anything:

'The sea always has its tribute from vanished ships making all the traces of wrecks inaccessible in its depths.'

?

I know that these games rely on a certain amount of dramatic hype in order to market themselves, but frankly I'm put off by drivel like this...

What matters is the game. Ignore the useless 'as you put it' drivel and you've still got the game.

Good morning whiterabbit, not commenting on the game, just wishing you a speedy recovery, and pleased to hear your daughter has just about recovered. Have a HOT Toddy that will help

p.s. I won't be moderating as often today as I've caught the same virus as my daughter had last weekend. The whole family came down with it progressively over the week, with me being the last to succumb. I'll try and pop in as often as i can, but sitting in front of the monitor for more than a few minutes leaves me feeling nauseous, so it will be a hard day for me. I'll try my best.
My daughter is now recovered (just about).
