Thank you to all who took the time to post feedback about yesterdays game, it was very much appreciated. :)

Please note today's game is 420MB in size; so, as more community members join the download servers the game, download speeds will drop significantly.

Oh yeah, meant to ask yesterday, I missed the Last Survivor giveaway on the 1st December. I have over 450 good games in my Steam inventory most of which are duplicates and quite a few that are no longer available on Steam (i.e. have been removed - you can tell which these are becasue they have no image of the game, just an image of the Valve logo and says Steam Gift ). There are some that are already spoken for, but most I'm happy to exchange for a working key of a similar value to Last Survivor which I believe is £10.99/$14.99. You can see my Steam inventory HERE, if you don't see the games click on Steam then from the drop down menu select gifts and then you can search through the 18 pages of spare games that I have. I've also got over 10 000 Steam keys that I've collected over the last several years from pre-orders, Kickstarter, and indie game bundles so if you don't see anything you fancy for your Lone survivor key in exchange from my Steam inventory, I may still have other games you want and would be really happy to swap for something of similar value. Just let me know if you have a key and I'll email you.

Please only post comments about the game being given away today; other comments either not appropriate, or not about the game will be deleted; however a little light banter among community members and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit will be allowed, and will be judged by the moderator as to whether it is suitable or not to be left.

I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments, inappropriate comments and spam that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started to give away games from the Steam world. I truly believe that if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers will be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints instead of feedback about the game will not persuade developers to give their games away for free. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Negative feedback about the game is welcomed as that can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games should be directed to the giveawayoftheday contact form which I've linked to HERE, alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours, please also post in the forums where you may also get a response. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example yesterday's game was blocked by my Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and/or the FAQ's thread HERE

There will be a Steam game on Monday with limited numbers of keys (sadly only 30 keys were available). For those who like a good arcade game, it will be worth trying your luck. I've already got the game and it's a decent one of it's genre.

I've not had time to play today's game yet and wouldn't be able to do so until late this afternoon, so a full review is probably not possible. by the time I'd be able to post one, the giveaway will already be halfway through, besides late afternoon and on to the evening is my family time, plus my daughter has important assessments this week, starting with a French viva tomorrow, so I need to devote my spare time to her later today. I have checked the game out briefly and it looks like a standard Hidden Object game released a couple of years ago. I couldn't find any walk-throughs or full reviews, but there are some comments over on Big Fish and iWin forums which i'll be linking to before I leave for archery (soon). The graphic is pretty nice and the game runs smoothly tohugh some players have reported problems in the forums I've linked to.

Installation:

The game downloads to a 420 MB zip file that unzips to four files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 479 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\The World's Legends - Kashchey the Immortal

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)

If the spirit of a warrior is with him, he shall not fear his path. Only then will he be able to find his dear mother and conquer the evil-doer!

Only played the game for a short time. It looks decent and so far the game play has been standard HOG fare. If you like HOG's this one will definitely be worth downloading. I've played better, but I've also played much worse. :) Sorry for the lack of a review. I don't think I'm going to have time to play any more nor spend time writing up a full review as we are talking at least three hours minimum and I have a lot to do today. moderation will take up enough of my time. In my opinion, with this type of HOG, once you've played a few you can usually predict what's available in game. It does have a reasonable tutorial with three modes of play to select from, i.e. Casual where active zones are highlighted plus skip and hint buttons recharge much faster than the other two modes. Advanced mode has no indication where active zones are situated and the skip and hint buttons take much longer to recharge than the casual mode. Hardcore mode has no active zones or skip and hint and no tutorial. Some items require at least two actions to complete for example in the first hidden object puzzle you have to find two parts of a dagger, the dagger plus the scabbard. When you find the dagger pick it up and place it in the scabbard. I found the game relatively easy going at least to the point I needed to stop.

Conclusion:

Unfortunately I haven't had the time to play the game long enough to justify a conclusion, though the time i have played the game appears to be a standard Hidden Object game with decent graphics and a story-line.

I got as far as pouring the water on the map. The symbols appeared and I backed out of the map to the chair. I thought I could pick up the map but I couldn't so I clicked on the map again. It was blank again. The game froze at that point and I can't get the map to close. Playing on Windows 10.

I've been enjoying this game and have been playing most of the last week. I particularly liked the clear divisions between sections, so I didn't go on playing for too long! However, yesterday I saved it just after finding the egg and when I came back the play button was greyed out. Did I come across a nasty glitch or does it end very abruptly?

Game play is straight forward, with only a few exceptions. The graphics are good, though not quite what I expected for such a large file size. In the hidden object scenes, most objects are large enough to find without magnification. A few scenes have limited visual contrast, which can be a problem for older people. This is obviously a translation of a foreign (Russian?) programmed game. The English names of some objects are a bit off and other names are a bit obscure as noted above by Loreal Barrow. Overall, an enjoyable game to play.

Couldn't request email link while it was being switched to direct D/L. After waiting a bit I downloaded and when I unpacked... Well, tried on 3 different machines, using 2 different progs to unpack (on each machine). Machines run Xp, Win7 & Win8 - Fresh download each try. Every time it starts install then says "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program." Called a friend 100 miles away and he got same result after multiple tries on Win10 machine. I'm pretty sure the .zip is zapped. Love a good HOG but I've spent far too much time with this POS PIA. Thanks for an entertaining afternoon though.

That's very odd becasue I've just re downloaded the zip file and was able to install it on one of my older computers with no problems. Also, if there was a problem with the zip file there would have been loads of community members commenting about the problem. Have you checked the FAQ's thread. There are some fixes for the issue you mention (for example try using a different file archiver.

I can only tell you what I know. Most community members do not have this problem, so it has to be something at your end that has caused the problem. Maybe the download was corrupted by your provider? I had an online friend who lived out in the sticks and always had problems downloading files from the internet, more often than not they would be corrupted, so I used to send him most files he was after copied to disk.

with respect to people complaining all of the time, what you are seeing is a very tiny percentage of the total community. At the very most only 0.05% of the giveaway community even bother to comment and of those an even smaller percentage have the problem you describe. No two computers are set up exactly the same. It may be a conflict with another program you are running, or the way you've got your security configured, all I can say is the file you are downloading from the giveaway servers is not corrupted at the server end. If thousands of community members are able to download and install the game from the file downloaded from the giveaway servers, how can it be corrupted from the giveaway end? Please explain. Everyone would be having the same problem. As I said, after reading your previous comment I re downloaded the file to check to see if something had gone wrong and it installed without problems.

The file/game from MyPlayCity is basically the same game apart from the check-boxes you get when you first install the game. So long as you uncheck those you will get the exact same game as was given away on Sunday. I've linked to the MPC version in my review.

Hi!
It took awhile to download and opened easily. I immediately switched to a regular cursor because there was a heavy drag on the game one! Like most hogs you have to do one thing to proceed to the next. You may be able to do a couple of things in a room, but will always have to come back doing something to gain access to another item. Some one was asking about how they found item. Like the dagger was needed to move the cameo or gem on a chest. There is a little bag to the bottom of where the hog list appears on the right. You click on that and can see your inventory to take the dagger. I had to do it a couple of times. I do not know if it is a glitch or what! It is a little harder than some in finding the hidden items and or putting them together. It also takes some time to move forward in finding everything to begin the journey and you have to wait to finish an activity for the next to show on the screen. I like to move along faster, but like having to work for things also.

No problems installing on a Windows 10 PC. Nice HOG, more challinging then normally in the advanced mode. Music is a bit annoying. So far the usual story line of rescuing somebody.
So far, the game is fun but not one to keep after the endtitle. It is not super outstanding, but nice enough to play for a week or so.

I still can not get into the download without having to sign into Fb. Took one hour to download from GGOTD so ended up downloading the game from MPC.

Win10 Home 64bit. Game loaded and play fine. Found using the hint a lot to get by. Some dark places but that is part of the game. Excellent game.

I've not had that problem w.r.t. having to sign into FB, but discovered yesterday that it was becasue I was signed into my admin account. Somehow it allows me to download without signing in or requesting an email. Not realized until I tried to download before I'd signed into the admin account. Usually i sign in first. I think the issue was fixed some weeks ago; though I would have thought it was best left as it was because not everyone wants to use social media. It's much like Steam forcing people to authenticate their accounts using mobile phones if they want to sell items on the Steam market. I don't own either type of phone, so can no longer sell trading cards on the Steam market (at least nopt effectively) becasue if you don't authenticate using an android or iPhone you have to wait 15 days before any market sales can go live by which time the prices you've asked for have changed. Last year I made over £1400 selling Steam trading cards before they introduced that security feature earlier this year; since then I've sold about 5 cards and made less than a £1. Sadly some changes will always affect a section of the community in a negative way. What we need to do is contact the giveaway team explaining that it will only alienate a significant section of the community. Since the changes the number of downloads has reduced massively except when a steam game is being given away. Those numbers are far higher than the usual giveaways.

The World's Legends: Kashchey the Immortal
Downloaded fast for me (maybe because I was an early downloader ;) and installed well on Win10 Pro x64 like usual for MPC games. A HOG, which some of you will know is not a favorite genre of mine, but thought my daughter and I could check it out..
Absolutely beautiful graphics, and a really nice Russian Fairy Tale storyline make this an interesting game, quite challenging at times, and played through nice for us so far. Tried to think of a suggestion for the developer of this game to help make it better, and other than maybe better hints for people who are not good at playing this type of game {points arrow squarely on us;} cannot think of any! And that is some high praise as I can usually pick out something to suggest. This game will stay on our system and get more looks, and as people who usually don't like HOG's that says a lot right there! Want to say Thank You to both GGAOTD and MPC for this game, and recommend people check this one out, even if it is a bigger download (but not that bad).

Decent hog sections but some of the mini-puzzles are not very intuitive - put six things in the "proper" order or click four items in the "correct" order ...with no knowledge (that I could find) of what that proper or correct order is, nor any indication you have one right. It's no fun just going through all the possible combinations til eventually hitting the correct sequence. Otherwise an enjoyable, if not outstanding, HOG.

(The house on chicken legs surprised me; I recall reading that folktale as a child.)

As for developers not being interested in feedback on older games, all games of a genre are just variations on a theme, of course developers are not going to reprogram an older game, but the input is still pertinent for newer games. Knowing what players did or did not like about older games is not irrelevant.

I was liking this game a lot until I got near the end. I need to find blue paint for the paintbrush to paint the egg. No blue paint. Hint tells me to use the seal and seal the letter. Can't click on either one of these objects. Grrrrr. Big Fish forums seem to indicate that this game was glitchy. Guess they didn't get all of the glitches fixed.

Although a tad dated, the HO scenes have the nice trait that some things are hard to find but are perfectly fairly hidden (ie, perfectly visible & adequately sized to see...if only you looked well enough). You also sometimes have to remember to use your inventory items occasionally in the HO scenes. (Wendy, that might be why you cannot "pick up" the item revealed by the hint (particularly if you are searching the trunk). I had a similar problem till I remembered to look in my inventory to see if there was a tool there to use on the item circled).

For those of you who would like to help guide HOPAs in directions you'd like to see more of and are also Steam customers, I'd like to suggest you go HERE and search out Darkarta: A Broken Heart's Quest, which is currently looking to get greenlit. I've played the beta and it has several new, innovative features and is a lot of fun and challenge. By a relatively new developer (Tuttifrutti) in India who is trying very hard to create a good game and has been really great so far in soliciting (and, more importantly, incorporating!) user comments to improve their game. And they had one really unique feature in an early beta - they actually made us CARE about their characters before starting us off on a hunt to help them. Some of that got deleted due to (imho bad) advice from BigFishGames, but based on the latest trailer on Steam, perhaps is coming back soon. Please take a look if you get a chance. (Yes, this is a blatant plug here for another game & another developer, but building a bigger HO community & helping developers who care about user input seems like a useful plan & helpful to all HOPA developers. I've got no ties to Tuttifrutti other than having played & enjoyed their beta & appreciating their openness to customer feedback).

lurkercat, Thanks WhiteRabbit. Never used the tags before & just copied what was in the "You can use these tags" section that precedes the comment section at GGAOTD. Will save your fix for future reference. Tuttifrutti visits Pond Friends, a forum I participate in that started out as outcasts from BFG when it shut down its non-game specific forums several years ago. They've offered us several betas of their game & have been updating it based on comments. They are a bright, eager, responsive company from what I've seen. The last beta I saw may still be available at Big Fish HERE if you want to give it a try (but it is missing the heartwarming intro I loved in the earlier version). P.S. A number of developers visit us at Pond Friends & we frequently get access to lots of betas. You may want to come check us out. Most betas are for HOPAs, though, which I gather are not among your favorites.

Well, I strongly suspect that I'm going to LOVE this game. However, as happened one other time, I thought I downloaded it while logged into my computer in regular mode....but alas, when I rebooted in Safe Mode to install what I had downloaded, it said that the download had failed. If it's something on y'all's end, I really wish you would remove that whatever-it-is....I don't really like having to abstain from computer use while a large file is downloading in Safe Mode. But, anyhow, it is what it is. Hopefully, I'll come back and have wonderful feedback after trying out the game. But in general, I like that it's from Russian Mythology instead of the usual Greek or even Celtic Mythology. I love both but it's a nice change.

Installed very nicely and easily on Win10 64b.
Excellent HOG with the usual "save ____" storyline. The Russian twist is interesting and seems to be a bit of a different take.
The pictures are very nicely done and the hidden objects can be quite challenging. I like the fact that there is a quest/puzzle-solving/HOG all mixed up into one. That really adds to it.
This game is similar to The Room (HUGE compliment in my opinion) with HOG side games thrown in for some interest.
I highly recommend this game and am very grateful for this offering today.

To start I want to say THANKS to GGOTD and My Play City for the fun game. I personally like HOGs and this is a beautiful game, graphics are really nice. I do have some frustration and have skipped one of the mini puzzles which I have never done before because for me the mini puzzles are generally better and more mind involving than just finding objects. The puzzle for the cabinet door in the cabin and the puzzle to enter the castle (the one I skipped) involve 6 medallions for 6 different images. On both puzzles they only show 2 of the images which results in mindless, frustrating clicking with no ability to tell if you are solving it or just randomly placing the objects. I lucked out on the cabin cabinet but was frustrated and skipped the castle access. Will continue to play it out but was very disappointed with these two puzzles. Again THANKS! L

More of an old school HOG. Don't like them when they go beyond (such as becoming more adventure than HOG).

OK, there's my game feedback. But...really now...does anyone actually think the developers actually give away games for feedback and development suggestions?

If so, they would give NEW or BETA versions. Let's quit this pretending. They give away old games so they can simultaneously advertise--for free--their new products and increase traffic to their website (which, btw, My Play City does brilliantly with their obligatory sitr visit when you close out their freebies.)

I am not opposed to this marketing via givaway. It has gotten me some nice free games and I've even bought a few of the games advertised with the GGOTD freebie. I' m just so tired of the worn-out pleas for "useful feedback" which, let's just admit, the companies really don't care about anywhere near as they care about the free advertising and its possible future sales.

I close by saying a sincere thank you to MPC for the game. I like it, will keep it, and will continue to consider purchasing you non-free offerings,

I don't agree, maybe to a certain extent with respect to idea's, but those that play the games also have idea's that can be incorporated into the games. When a developer see's feedback, they will more likely give more than if all they see is complaints. When I used to beta test for Alawar, i made some suggestions for one of their breakouts which they took on board. Read my comments from some of the early Alawar breakouts going back 10 years. You'll see i was always making suggestions. And yes they ar ealso a way of getting the community to visit their sites, for example the number of sales at both Alawar and Playrix must have increased when they gave away games. With digital media they are onto a winner if they only persuade a tiny fraction of the community. But my statement about how it would persuade developers to come here for idea's still stands.

Seem to have gotten over the first hurdle with the mini game in the closet. somehow the amulet was in the original inventory so i clicked on that before I entered the closet and then on the round thingy at the back and top of the scene in the closet and it rotated.
There were two typos in the written instructions in the first scene. The first one related to the painting: something about not using the object I'd selected as it could do the painting 'hard' instead of 'harm'. The other instruction typo related to opening the casket near the painting. It said something about finding 'a keys' instead of 'the keys'. Typos, while not major, do tend to break the mood if there are a few of them.

I was excited to start playing this HOG. The storyline was intriguing, the graphic on the welcome screen was gorgeous. However, the first scene graphic was disappointing as it appeared less painterly and detailed. Still reasonable quality, though. Then there was a popup offering tutorials. I clicked the part requesting not to have a tutorial, but it didn't go away until I click a specific spot on the background leading to the first hidden object mini game.

However, the last object I tried to find - revealed by the hint system - was for me still unfindable or unclickable. The sparkling lights circled an area just above and below the inventory and no amount of clicking around the area would do anything. However, I'm playing on the tiny screen of a tablet, so perhaps a large screen would make things clearer.

Can't comment any further just yet until I can move forward from the first hidden object mini game. Might have to wait until I can get to a larger screen. The game itself appears very promising as I like taking off on noble, fantasy quests accompanied by lush graphics and intriguing characters.

Wendy, if you find a solution to that please let me know....having the same problem with an under the bed ho scene...can't pick up the key to unlock the jewel box to get the bracelet...and that leaves me stuck.

Thank you very much - I love these sort of games. Too early to make any constructive (or negative) comments, as I've only checked that it has downloaded properly. It has and very easily too and no nonsence with Facebook! Thanks again,

Sieska , Usually I can click on the FaceBook login and close it and it will let me proceed with the download. Not today (at least for me). So now I'm curious about your comment regarding no nonsense. Please don't tell me I'm going to have to start making throw-away email accounts. W.R, am I missing something?

I thought they had fixed it so that you didn't have to sign into your Facebook account. I only found out today why I've not had to. If I'm signed into my admin account, I'm able to download without having to click on either the email or Facebook link. I was under the impression that you could just skip them, but when i'm signed out I have to use my email as I lost my Facebook account when they forced everyone to change their Facebook account names to their real name. Mine was as you could guess called whiterabbit-uk. I only used it to play free games, and hadn't bothered visiting the account for over a year. when I did try to log in I wasn't able o becasue Facebook had deleted the account.

Im so over these "find objects" games....Why dont we ever get anything cool?
The only 2 type of games are hidden object and candy crush type.

Yesterdays game was an original take on the match three that garnered very positive reviews, plus since the end of October we've had a couple of survival games, a horror themed game, a couple of different takes on the tower defense genre, a couple of platformers, a strategic RPG, a tank battle game, a couple of clicker games, a marble popper, a first person shooter and a top down shmup. Not that many HOG's actually and as for Candy Crush types,we only had a couple of match threes, but I don't put them in the same league as Candy Crush. some match threes are excellent arcade games, with a lot of playability. that said, we all have pout preferences, each to their own I say. Please do remember we get these games for free; it's not like the giveaway team can go into a store and choose any game they wish. We rely on the generosity of developers and game distributors for the games we get.

As I've said many times including today, we will only get more and better games if the community pulls together and starts to post useful feedback about the games (either negative or positive, but most importantly constructive) instead of complaining about the types of games we get. If you wish to complain, please contact the team via the official contact form (which I've linked to in my comment at the top of the comments) or post some suggestions in the appropriate thread over in the forums. There is a thread specifically for requests. The team will always attempt to get something asked for, whether it happens is another matter. You do need to be realistic. we are not going to get an Assassins Creed/Call of Duty/Battlefield game, or the latest indie releases that cost £10/$12 or more.

Am in one of the hidden object scenes in the bedroom, under the bed....there is a key to unlock the chest to get the bracelet but the key is under the item list bracket and I can't pick it up.....any suggestions?

This one is a little hard on the eyes in the hidden object scenes.

Not sure but I think you may have to use the crow bar that was found in the first HOG scene. (My memory is appalling)

Just went and looked...don't have the crowbar anymore, used it to open the horse stall and it disappeared after use......if I can't get the key I can't proceed with the game.

Hopefully someone will be able to help. I don't have time to play on today. My daughter really needs support with her French viva at the moment. she has to learn several paragraphs of work she translated for her assessment tomorrow. the marks go towards her final grade at the end of the year. It's important that she do well if she wants to go to the better universities in the UK.

The crowbar should open the toolshed straight ahead of you, the sharpened sword opens the horse stall (I don't think the game will let you do anything out of turn so you've probably not found something or combined something yet ...some of the solutions are rather obtuse).

Thanks for the feedback, hopefully Ann will see it. Whenever i see the word obtuse I always think of the movie Shawshank Redemption, think I'll dig it out and watch it as I picked it up from one of our local charity shops recently. Not seen it in several years. Brilliant movie.

Yes I have, but I prefer to make my own decision about such games. The premise appeals to me. Also finding the right people to play with can make all the difference. You'll also notice that most of the negative reviews, at least the ones I saw (I didn't check through every one) have virtually no game play at all. I do not believe you can give a fair opinion of a game if you've played it for less than an hour, in fact I believe you need a few hours minimum to be able to accurately get the measure of a game. Sadly many people who leave reviews on Steam play for less than 20 minutes. Also the game was only released on the 22nd November. I reckon when it goes on sale in the Christmas sale (starts on the 22nd Dec) there will be a larger player base. It seems that was the main gripe from the negative reviews I read. Also, the developer gave away 10 000 keys the other day, all of which were grabbed plus more were added, so I'm sure the player base will be much better now. In fact I think one of the reviews I read was from a giveaway community member, posted the day after the giveaway and who said they had got the key for free. They gave a positive review with reservations.

hwdp, yeah, I've played this one before and didn't keep it, so it probably wasn't that great in my opinion.....don't remember having this problem getting the key last time I played the game either.

Package and files scanned with WinDefender (win10), Superantispyware free 6.0.1228, Malwarebytes free 2.2.1.1043, emsisoft emergency kit portable free 12.0.0.6971, gridinsoft antimalware 3.0.65: no problems detected.
No problems during download and installation on Windows 10 x64, with DEP always on.
No problems at program startup.
I'm using:
- resolution 1920x1080, color depth 32bit, refresh rate 60Hz.
- custom scaling 150%

Scans post-installation show also no problems (with the same tools).
