Hi Michael, The error message you are getting is because your security software is either deleting the executable, or blocking it. this is becasue the game is wrapped in a Themida code to protect it from hackers. The trouble is, because Themida code can also be used to hide malware, some security suites automatically block or delete files that are wrapped with Themida code. There are three things you can do to get the game working:

1) ... The easiest is to temporarily turn off your security (it recommends this in the read me), install the game, then reboot your security. The giveaway team have never given away a game infected with malware since the project started over 12 years ago.

2) ... The second thing you can do is white-list the giveaway files with your security software.

3) ... thirdly you can reboot in safe mode with networking, install the game, then reboot as normal.

Any one of the above should allow you to install the game.

If the giveaway files were corrupt we would have had many community members posting to report the issue.
Please do let me know if you got the game to work.

Alternatively you could download the game directly from MyPlayCity. The only difference between the giveaway and MPC versions apart from the giveaway being wrapped in Themida code is that the giveaway version has had most of the low level adware removed.

Whiterabbit-uk, each time i tried to download I have turned both AV and fireball to no avail I'm not a novice at this, I believe the link I connected to was corrupt! thank you for your input.

Hi Michael, sorry I have no other fix for this. There has been many downloads and no one else has been unable to download the game. if the link was corrupted, others would have had the same issue. It has to be something at your end that is stopping the download.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the following, however, as the giveaway is over, it's unlikely many community members will read this, so I'm going to make a suggestion that will enable you to get the same version as we got yesterday. The only difference between the game giveaway version and the MyPlayCity version is that a folder within the installed game has been removed from the giveaway version. You can get the exact same game by downloading The Treasures of Montezuma 4 from MyPlayCity HERE; install it, then open up the installed games folder and delete the InchData folder with all its contents. Then you'll have the same version as the game giveaway.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, where I'd installed some software that I'd got via the other side of the project, then disabled it as it was causing a conflict with another program. I didn't delete it as I though I may use it at a later date. Anyway, I had to replace the motherboard and memory (my daughter fried my computer). I used the same motherboard model and didn't have to reinstall windows, however unbeknownst to me, that program had somehow re-activated itself. There was no notification and I couldn't see anything via the task manager. It got to the point where I contacted Microsoft as I thought it may have been related to my operating system after replacing the motherboard as I always thought that if you changed either your Mother Board or CPU, you had to re-register your operating system. To cut an even longer explanation a 'little' shorter, I connected with Microsoft and allowed them access to my desktop. They found the issue literally in less than a minute. That program that I thought was still disabled, had been running in the background and had been blocking the giveaways. The only evidence of it being there was the right click context menu, which I'd not thought to check. I deleted the program and was finally able to download from the game giveaway site again (it took me several weeks to sort it). What I'm trying to say in a round-about way, is that it could be a conflict with other programs you are running, that aren't immediately obvious.

There's a free program that is primarily used for reducing the load on your computer when playing games, especially games that require a lot of the computers resources. It's called Razer Game Booster and can be downloaded HERE . It's useful in that when running it will turn off all unnecessary Windows system back ground programs that are not required to play games, plus you can configure it to turn off any other program that runs in the background. The program works at the click of a single button and is deactivated with another single click of the mouse. when you deactivate it, it turns all those programs back on. It could be useful in that you could run the program and see if you can then download. This will either confirm or negate the possibility that it is a background program, or at least speed up the process instead of having to turn off single programs via the Task Manager try to download, then start the process again over and over, working through all of the background programs to try and find if there is a conflict. That is usually driven by your antvirus. If you disable it then relaunch the setup, it should work. I use Avast and right click the icon then click the "disable for 10 minutes", install the game then enable again.

I have used this site for years and there has never been a virus so I do that with confidence.

Adam, Hi Adam, as jBoy has said, your AV software has probably blocked the game. This is due to the presence of a Themida wrapper, which can also be used to hide malware. Some AV software automatically blocks and some even delete the executable because of this. Let me assure you the giveaway site has been giving games away for over 12 years numbering around 2000 games and no game given away here has been infected with malware. All downloads are thoroughly checked using the latest anti malware suites.
