I have been playing this since the most recent free download, a couple of weeks. All of a sudden, today, the game stopped working /cry...the exe file is there but the game won't load: just a black screen for a moment, then back to desktop. Can't reinstall since the free download day is over....any ideas??

I also become addicted to this game. I'm up to Journey 8 now, and it's getting really hard to finish a level....

Absolutely love this game. Yes, it is another match game, but it does get exceedingly difficult as each level progresses (and the journey's as well-I'm up to Journey 5), but I have absolutely become addicted to this game. It's above average in graphics and the storyline (although repetetive) is good. Thanks.

I loved this game. Challenging but forgiving, beautiful, educational and interesting. I finished this game out of curiosity for the screensaver, a nice bonus, but also because it was fun. You can keep playing at harder levels after you complete the game, which makes this game worth purchasing, though I think $19.95 is probably too much. (Not because of the quality, but because there are so many other games out there that a little lower price might sell more product.) Thanks Playrix and GAOTD.

How do you get the free screensaver after you finish the levels? It didn't download for me.

Really late comment.

The scoring seems to subtract, rather than add, the time bonus at the end of a screen. If you finish a level just barely over 100,000, you will get the free life, then your score will go below 100,000 and you will get another free life when you go over it while playing the next screen.

I really like this game, yes it is a match three, but a lot more difficult than some and many interesting options.
I agree, if you don't like something, you don't have to use it!!

About 48 hours after starting to play the game and loving it - I homeschool and thought this would be a great way for the kids to learn some history relevant to what we were aleady studying. But now, the game just flickers and no longer plays.

So sad.

We love this game. Yes - it appears to be just another match-3 clone, but it is by far the most superior and addictive one I've ever played. It introduces new concepts like being able to achive the goal by getting longer chains, getting and saving bonuses and so much more.

My son (8 yo) and I have played it non-stop for 2 days straight!

I really like the graphics in this game, they are beautiful. The scenes of the ancient cities, along with the travelogue info, are extremely well done. I also enjoy having a "match 3 game" that is less dependent on matching colors, because I am color blind and often have difficulties with some of the subtleties between (some shades of) blue & green, and blue & purple.
/All in all, well done, IMHO

A great game. i was addicted to it from the start and it suprisingly not as hard as i thought it would be. it has some pretty cool features in it especially when there are no more moves the board automatically reshuffles! i love it. if u like playing match 3's games then this one is a gr8 for you!

It saves automatically when you exit, as do most games of this genre. That's why you have to enter your name at the beginning.

"For all who ‘complain’ I think it has been said over and over again, if you don’t like it, don’t download it!"

Look, I like this game. But that doesn't mean that other people have to. In case you didn't notice, we've been getting this same basic game for about two months, and it's understandable that people are tired of it. Let others say what they think about the game - it's not like the "complainers" are telling people like us not to like it.

Whew! Just finished Journey 1, and it was incredible! I normally don't like sound on my games, but the sound effects and music for this game is very satisfying. Not sure I will work on Journey 2 yet, but I'm glad it's there! It got very hard at the end, and I was very thankful for the bonuses I saved during the easy parts. I couldn't have finished otherwise. I really like that sun. Nice way to get rid of some excess tension!

Another great "match 3" game. Great graphix and great music.

On my Win Vista machine it installs and runs with no problems at all.
On my WinXP machine it installed with no problems, BUT, when I click the icon to start the game I get as far as the Playrix Entertainment splash screen (you know the very first screen that pops up with the little green dinosaur thing)and then the game shuts down back to my desktop.

DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE, AND IS THERE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM?.

ANYWAY HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE AND KEEP UP THE GOODWORK GGAOTD!!!

i expect the game should have a save option for the finished levels.
i rate this among the top matching games.

After trying it I like this game. It has nice smooth action and very good graphics. I didn't find a Save & Exit option but might have missed it. I've gotten quite a few really good games from this site and appreciate the opportunity to try out and keep or discard as may be. I've kept a lot! Too many! lol

Thank you GOTD for still allowing the games to be free. I have become addicted to games and being disabled at home I have lots of time to play them. Not all the games are what I want to down load but I check each morning to see what goodies are offered.

Keep the games coming and try to ignore all the complaints. It seems some people can't resist typing in a comment box. lol :)

Thanks again and have a safe and Happy New Year,

I don't mind match three games. The graphics on this game are well done, the concept is better than most... but the music is nails-on-chalkboard irritating. I couldn't wait to get out of it. The sound effects are bad as well and don't fit the overall theme of the game. The hint system is intrusive. I don't like the hint to pop up and block the game board. I end up clicking okay without reading the message, which could be information I'll need. Might be a keeper if I turn the sound off.

I'm still happily playing Hyperballoid but I love Match 3 and puzzles. GOTD, don't worry about the gripers. If they were as disgusted as they say they are, they wouldn't even be on GOTD to see what was offered. Off to download the Rise of Atlantis as it's getting late.

My review of The Rise of Atlantis:

Well, it's another match-3. Surprise. This one, however, is slightlty better than usual.

For starters, although it uses the same matching mechanism as Bejeweled, it uses it to a completely different end. While in Bejeweled, the object was mindlessly clearing blocks until they were all gone, the object of The Rise of Atlantis is to shift certain blocks to the bottom of the level. This makes the game much more of a "puzzle" than Bejeweled ever was(I cringe when I see the "puzzle" sections of portal websites). While not quite as cerebral as Ice Puzzle Deluxe, it is still quite good.

As for the graphics, they're very shiny and polished, although all of the sparkles and twinkles are somewhat generic. The arcs streaking off of the sun, though, are some really neat eye candy.

The sounds are typical match-3 tinkles, swooshes, and sparks, but the music has a nice Mediterranean feel. Not much to complain about here.

The theme is rather interesting, although somewhat erroneous in its depiction of the Tower of Babel(the only record of that monument is in the Bible, which states that it was never finished and existed long before Babylon itself). The game also displays historical trivia between levels, but it's pretty much stuff that we all learned in third grade.

I do have a major complaint about the game, though. One of my pet peeves with Bistro Stars was the incessant patronizing with "tips". The matching hints were less frequent in The Rise of Atlantis, but still there. Worse, some of the tips were redundant(e.g. "It's easier to clear locked pieces at the beginning," vs. "Clear locked pieces at the beginning to make it easier later on."). You can turn off the annoying message boxes at level beginnings, but the matching hints are always on.

Overall, I give The Rise of Atlantis a score of seven and three quarters out of ten(seven for gameplay, nine for graphics, seven for music, and eight for theme). While most casual gamers will be turned off by having to actually think about their moves, others will enjoy its challenge. I know that I did.

Small side note: This giveaway is something of a two-for-one deal because of the included screensaver. The game must be completed before it can be used, though.

>Too many people for me to count or bother counting

The best thing that you people can say about it is that it's FREE(note the allcaps that people seem compelled to use when typing that word)? Rather than countering "whiny" complaints(which are perfectly understandable) with that kind of drivel, why not actually argue based on the game's content? You'd be a lot more convincing.

>Again, too many people to sift through

Phil made a valid point. A limited selection is not wider simply because it's free. Oh, and for the specific people who disagreed with his analogy based on American history(more than half of the Internet is in the USA, mind you, and it was invented by Americans), it was valid, too. Does the phrase "taxation without representation" mean anything to you?

>Jim/Diane(finally, not a massive group)

I feel sorry for you. If you applied that same philosophy to free samples at the supermarket, you guys would weigh about 400 pounds each.

Note: This game works fine on my machine but I get the same problem mentioned above when I loaded it on my son's machine. (game does not start up, only get to "dinosaur" load screen then shuts down) I suspect that it could be his video card. I believe his is only an 8mg card and the minimum required is 32mg. I did not think about that before I downloaded it. The video card on my machine is a 64mg card. Those of you who are having problems, could your video card be to small? It must be at least a 32mg card.

To #36: Your soup analogy simply does not fit here. Yes, I would be annoyed if there were only 3 cans of soup in the store, and yes, I would talk to management about it, however, the difference is that I am PAYING for the soup, the store is not giving it to me for free. If the store was giving it away, then it would be ridiculous to complain about it. It disgusts me to see people complaining about something they are getting for free - what ever happened to gratitude and good manners?
I totally agree with you.
Happy NEW year to all

I downloaded this game and played the first couple of puzzles only but it seems to be a very fun game to play. I enjoy this genre so I expect that I will play this one a lot. I just haven't mastered Montezuma, yet!

I have downloaded many games from this site and have enjoyed them very much. I suspect that some of the complainers might like more of these games if they would just try them for more than 5 minutes. It's hard to get a real feel for a game in just a few minutes. Those of you who complain with out downloading the game are not being fair (in my opinion) since the idea of this site is to get feedback about the games. I agree that there are a lot of games from the same genre but GGAOTD can only offer what is offered to them. If you don't like the entire genre it's fair to say so but making rude and offensive comments is not necessary. I'm sure your point of view is as important to the games developers and to GGAOTD as any, I just don't see the need for rudeness.

To the GGAOTD team: Thank you so much for all the games I would never have if it wasn't for this site. I come here every day just to see what is being offered. I too do not download every thing that is offered but I have several great games from this site so THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
