I downloaded this game the day is became available. I've tried playing it. It's a little confusing. Don't know how to use the hints (no explanation for use). There should be a help button that explains how to use the hint items. I love to play hidden object games but this one is a little confusing.

Re: Comment #136

The first thing I tried was the registry thing. There was no profile in there with my name. I did however find the profile in another folder and deleted it. One of the 'User' folders, I believe. I still had my doubts about whether it would work because in the meantime, I installed Windows 7 on the new computer. I did move the folders from my laptop anyway to try it and it worked great!
Thanks for your help.

I tried to post the same thing as #138.. do a complete AV cleaning every day.. got the same message from Norton.. told my hubby we have downloaded games from this site for years and will continue to do so.. we just deleted that game's folders....

.....MODERATOR COMMENT.....

All games are rigorously tested by the game giveaway team. I use the latest version of Kaspersky AV and Returnil Virtual System home edition. Neither have picked up any problems with this game. Still, if you're not happy or sure about a program, its better to be safe than sorry. :) Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

downloaded and installed. Suddenly 12-18-09 norton popup stating the game has a trojan horse virus. I really hate that.

.....Moderator Comment.....

All game giveaways are rigorously tested for virii. If there had been a virus present we wuld have had many complaints, but we didn't, so it was either a false positive or you've picked up a virus from another source thats clevely attached itself to the game to throw you off the scent. I would give your computer a very good check over with your AV software.

How do you get around something that will not open? One of the telescopes is in the refridgerator that has ice on it and even though the hint tells you to go there, it will not open. So, I am stuck at this level and cannot go further. There must be a fix to get around objects like that. Where is it?

I really, really loved this game, more than any other HOG that I've ever played and I've played a lot of them. Maybe it was BECAUSE it wasn't as hard as most. Anyway I finished it a few days ago and wanted my husband to try it. Well, it started about two screens from the end of the game and then that was it. ??? Tried two more times with different names and got the same thing. Is there no way to start over from the beginning?

Also I first tried installing it on my laptop (1 GB memory) and it wouldn't run so I installed in on my new desktop (8 GB memory) and it worked fine. However I'm still stuck with it on my laptop because there is NO uninstall file, either in the Remove Programs or in the folder where the game is located. Can anybody help with that?
Thanks

....MODERATOR COMMENT......

Hi Merrick,

To delete the game just delete the installed folder, however a way around your dilemma regarding not being able to gt a new profile for your husband would be to delete the game on the main computer, make a back up of the one on the laptop and transfer it to your computer. As its not been played you should theoretically be able to start from scratch; though you may find your profile has been saved in the registry. In that case you will need to look for registry entries. Try the first idea then if it doesn't work post a thread in the forums and we can take it from there.

regards

WR

Great hidden object game and graphics fantastic - just don't like the repetition of the phrase 'oh my God' by the girl in the story - some people find this offensive to what they believe/their religion - if this was removed I would give this game full stars and would not hesitate to let my kids play this. I like the unusual items put it eg. reticule- for kids and adults even this would expand their vocab and knowledge and so is also an educational game. Would give it 4 out of 5 stars at moment. Overall good work.

Thought I should do an update since I posted 'problems' before. Once I found the game-where no other games are installed, but under C:Games as advised, I could open it up and play. I did not read the Read Me file (usually just says to activate that day) and missed the Enter Code bit. I re-installed the game so the code would display and used that. From then on everything worked just fine. It's a nice little game and some items are very cleverly hidden. If I have to use a Hint I'm usually surprised where the item is and say to myself "good hide" this game had several. Some of the puzzles were very nice and took a bit of doing to get them right but nothing too hard. The only annoying thing was the people pop ups-really didn't like that and the man was a very unusual looking gentleman!
Thanks for an entertaining game and for the very nice replies to my posts. I am looking forward to some other game repeats as my old pc died and I lost them all. Thanks, guys, appreciate it very much.

First installation at approx. 09:15 in the morning CET, but this one caused the "infamous" Memory Access Violation error.

Then new attempt with new download (at approx 10:00 CET) . . . hoping "now it must work" but again same error - again an attempt to download at 11:00 CET now with 404 error ... so I gave up frustrated.

Now I read it was upped an hour later and runs like a dream. What a shame for those of us who were hasseled by the bad first upps and now have no fun at all.

The corrupted file was changed about 90 minutes after the original one was posted. If you managed to get the read me file with the activation code you can still install a demo of the game (read my comment #1 for details)

Try using the demo available from Softpedia. Thats the file I used to install the game. It should be registered as the code will have already been inputted into the registry. I did mention thi in my review @ #1 where you'll also find a link

Re Gregory Phoenix...really enjoyed this game but have got part way through and cannot access after the stones that have lights that link them( stones in a circle a bit like a minature stonehenge)...says I have played the demo and must now purchase to continue..I clicked on 'play demo' to try it again and am informed have already played the demo cannot play it again...I'd appreciate any assistance, it's asking me for a code to continue but have checked and cannot find the 'read me file' as I assume thats where the code is.Could you please tell me what it is?
Kindest Regards
Barbara

....Moderator Comment....

The read me file that unzips with the gamw setup file does have an activation number. Check again. I've just checked the read me file that came with the game and it definitely does have a code.

When I first played this game, I had nothing else running on my system (had rebooted just before installing), and didn't have a lot of memory problems. Now, with just email and browser running (and the usual background processes, of course), I have nothing but memory problems (XP Pro SP2, 1GB memory, 256MB graphics card).

These are the same programs I typically have running when I'm playing games. I also switch back and forth from 1 game to another, and another, etc. and seldom have problems. And with the dozens of similar/casual games I have, this is the only one I've consistently had problems with. Remains to be seen if I'll want to finish it badly enough to put up with/work around the resource allocation problems.

.....Moderator Comment.....

Use Game Booster while playing the game, it's a free application. Check out one of my previous posts earlier today.

Installed twice, first one gave the Memory Access Violation error. Redownloaded and reinstalled, now is running perfectly on my Win 2K desktop. Graphics are very nice. I recently discovered HOGs, I am late to the party, so I am enjoying them very much.
Thanks again.

Downloaded a little slow to Vista than when I went to play it was really slow in loading. The music was stuttering and stalling at times along with the gameplay. When I finally got the play window open it asked me if I wanted to pay for it now. The same when I closed the game window it asked for a gamekey/code to activate the game. When I did play for a few minutes the graphics were really nice and it looks like it might be a great game. Hope I can get it to work.
Will uninstall and try again.

Quite a few things I liked about this game, but it needs more complexity. Nicely downloaded, interesting pictures, liked the need to use arrows to see whole picture. Some of the puzzles were interestingly designed. Too simple for adults, with no replay value. I can't recall finishing a game so quickly.

Very good game... Played through in under 5 hours, and would have been shorter but stopped to soak in the graphics. Nice endgame and closing scene - could have been more dramatic, maybe. Only disappointment is that it was too short. Could have played this game for a lot longer, but I realize there's only so much storyline to go around. Congrats White Zebra on a well-designed and beautiful game. Looking forward to a sequel, and maybe more than a few hours of gameplay. Even the puzzles were well done, but were perhaps too easy.

Am I alone in the Clueless Department today?

As instructed, I clicked Buy Now and was taken to a secure webpage. But I can't find anywhere to enter the Registration Code. Instead, it has all the blanks for actually purchasing the game, which defeats the GOTD purpose ...

If it's not too late (just two hours left to the giveaway period), can someone help me, please? Thanks!

...........MODERATOR COMMENT...............

The activation window appears behind the browser opened to the web site, minimise the website page and you'll see the activation code. Failing that, download the demo and reinstall. The demo will activate with the code that we were given (see the read me that unpacks with the set up ). I got my demo from Softpedia (link provided in my first or second post (Whiterabbit-UK)) as the one from the link we were pprovided with was corrupt. I wont be able to moderate anymore today, I'm virtually getting an imprint of the keyboard on my forehead through lack of sleep. Todays game has been a hard one to moderate. :)

Good game. I like ones that vary the action with different genres, like they do here with HOG and puzzles. Puzzles that I've actually been able to solve a few of! A few problems as noted above, like the characters popping up and down, the game not saving progress if you quit before finishing a level/location, and the locations on the map being way off, but overall a fun game.

I will probably be trying Game Booster, as my XP Pro SP2 is... not as young as it used to be (kinda like its owner!) Now if I could just find a Delilah Booster... lol

Once again, thanks to Whiterabbit and the Giveaway team!

I like it. I like the conscientious effort to add variety to the HOG format. A lot of nifty little variations. Though you've got to follow the preparatory hints closely. Picked up the wrong item in the Mayan Village and couldn't put it down to pick up the monitor. Had to close and reopen. The cartoon drawing on the characters doesn't bother me. I'm not trying to be insulting, but remember, they're fictional. I don't care THAT much what they look like. It's a different style than the backgrounds, I admit. Probably done by a different artist, but it takes more than that to ruin the play of a game for me. Could do without the rocking plane, though. :) This game uses both of the major techniques of HOGs, (though alternately in what I've seen so far) deep integration of objects into the background or screen clutter to hide them. Also uses hidden areas. Again, I like the cleverness. Mine loads up reasonably quickly. Also, no problem switching to Window mode, though I haven't tried switching back.

However, this IS a TITANIC memory hog. Monitored it, and even in Windowed mode, ate up practically all of my nearly 1 gig. Also, and it's obviously related, quite slow to put it's toys away. I.e...slow to close. No real excuse for the memory use here. Developers need to bring someone else in to work on their routines. None of the other HOGS I got from GOTD were this bad, so it seems only logical that these good folks have memory use errors in their coding. Going to take WR's suggestion one of these days and try gamebooster. If people with 2 gigs are even having problems, then I wouldn't recommend trying to run this program without it. At least if you don't want the extra aggravation of glitches. Vista Home Premium. CPU: 2G, RAM: 1G. Monitor Resolution: 1024x768. Video card: NVidia GE Force 6100.

Bottom line: if you can fix or live with the memory issues, this seems like a big time bargain at 6.99. Good start White Zebra, but I can't believe you've got your memory management coding correct. I highly recommend you look into it. You have the makings of a big winner here. Some help would be useful, too. I can see where some people would easily get stuck. Probably me for one. LOL. Though the speed with which some have said they burned through it makes me think you need to add more wrinkles, or at least levels.

Woo-hoo! Cracked problem I reported in #94!

I ran "gregory" (having already run "getfull" and inserted the key).

The problem seems to be with the installation of what Comodo firewall is diagnosing as the installation of a "global hook" -- DINPUT.dll.

(This hadn't come up before -- may be artifact of re-boot.)

Saying "yes" and choosing "installer" mode made it meditate for a few moments and bring up the "White Zebra" splash, then game proceeded.

And, yes, worth the effort!

Thanks, GGOTD!! (and all posters, especially for hints -- and, of course, WhiteRabbit)

Downloaded and played fine on XP sp3. It was a little slow on exit, but no more than about a minute at the most.
I played the first level (room?) and exited, then got the screen that asked for my code. Entered the code from the read me file and it's mine!
Thanks for another great game, GGOTD! Love these HOG's, especially when it's not just hidden items...
Have an awesome week, all!

After hitting the "Buy Now" button I too got the purchasing page of the website(which I closed down) but also a smaller window that wanted the registration number.
Todays game is great if you can get it to work.
It is also a CPU hog as my SYS manager tells me it takes up 90% of free memory. My poor laptop (Thinkpad Win XP) starts to overheat and the fan is running overtime.
I wish there was a pause button. After any interuption (like hitting the Windows button on my keyboard) on returning to game all I get is sound and a black screen. Ctrl-Alt-Del only option. Then reboot, close down anything not needed to run and play and enjoy couple of levels and repeat. I hope this gets fixed because it is a nice idea.
One small point the map should be of the world and placement of levels more realistic.
Thanks
P.S. The developers of all updated versions should post the first note of changes and if an uninstall of previous version is required.

For those experiencing lag during the game an ideal solution would be to use the freeware program Game Booster. I've just been forced to use my secondary computer from Friday due to a burnt out power supply - I'd also just been able to unlock a pre ordered game called Dirt 2 which I was very keen to check out, but I didn't think my two NVidia 6800 GS 256Mb graphics cards would cope with the graphics which have been designed with DX11 in mind. Anyway, as I suspected, the game lagged a little and was basically unplayable. Earlier today I remembered I had a copy of Game Booster installed so found the shortcut and booted it up. The game then ran perfectly.

Basically the booster turnes off all the services that are not essential while yo are playing a game. Theres a button that enables you to switch all the services back on when you've finished playing the game. Sinple to use and very effective.

You can download a copy for free:

Also, at times the screen would show part of the screen stuck in the old scene and part of the screen on to the new screen.

This is just a typical mess up. It seems to be a code problem or some such thing. I cannot even find the game even though it's supposedly installed. I even used the search box to search all files & folders. The first download was just a bunch of things in a separate folder. No way for this dumb 67 yrs young female to install it. I guess I'll just continue buying my games from Amazon, then I know they'll work.

.....MODERATOR COMMENT....

Hi Skeeter,

You may not be searching for the correct terms. The following should find the installed game for you:

GregoryPhoenix
GetFullVersion
Gregory_Phoenix

Neither have spaces. Or alternatively, if you allowed the game to be installed to its default location you will find it in C:\Games\Gregory_Phoenix. Once you've located the folder click on one of the executables mentioned above in the list (the last one is the name of the folder). You should be asked for the activation code at some point in the process which is located in the read me file that unzips with the set up file. If you continue to have problems try downloading the demo from the link I gave in one of my first comments (Whiterabbit-uk). The avtivation code should also work on that. Please post any problems you may have in the forums, I've created a thread specifically for the game.

Today's little gem was a great early Christmas present! "The Mysterious Past of Gregory Phoenix", downloaded and installed without any difficulties. Graphics, music, and theme are great. As a matter of fact I can't think of one think bad about today's giveaway.
Hidden object games are one of my favorites and this one has some new twists to some of their puzzles that I haven't encountered yet.

Hi Whiterabbit and Moderators, here are some suggestions, and thanks for some good games.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS A graphics spec needs to be added here, to differentiate between ram, and an information link to help a person find out if their graphics card will run a game, ie will a Nvidia Gforce 4 ti4200 with 64mb, run today's game, or does it need a Nvidia 8600 gts with 256 gddr3, there's a lot of difference.

SOFTWARE INFORMER A note on the site, or in the readme, is needed for people who continually fail to observe the installation options. Also the merits of the program narrated, as it is a very useful servicing tool, that I have used for 6 months. However, it did get itself a bad name, when it first came out about 18 months more ago.

Regards Bill3

.....MODERATORS COMMENT....

Good points Bill. I also think a list of potential problems and their solutions should have been posted a long time ago; so that if you do stumble upon a problem you can check out the FAQ's. I've been meaning to compile a list myself, and am actually part way through completing the project; but I'm always getting side tracked. Hopefully I'll have it posted sometime soon. :)

Another fun little find-it game. Not as difficult as some others given away here. Thanks though.

Game seems to crash my machine (Windows 7 64-bit).

Install seemed OK; got GGOTD activation page, ran "get full version" and inserted key, then -- blank screen and nothing. Had to power down and re-start.

I installed to a custom directory -- could that be a problem?

.....MODERATOR COMMENT......

No installing to a custom directory is definitely not the problem as I always redirect my game installs to my own preferred folders. You seem to have the same problem someone else running Win 7 had (several comments above) I'm afraid I can't think of any fixes at this time (unfortunately I can't afford a copy of Win 7 yet).

I love all the puzzles within the game. The graphics can be a little cheesy but are fun to watch. I am addicted and will be spending a great deal of time playing the game! Thank you for a fun game for the giveaway today!
