The community gave this an overall positive thumbs up when it was first given away and there are some excellent community comments about the game from back then; plus there's a full review from Casual Games (though the reference link that I originally posted now goes to a 404 error.

Thank you for your support Merlin.

We've had issues with such trolls for a few years now. I tried to reason with this particular troll last year, but they reverted to type. Its best to just ignore them as they probably have issues with themselves that leads them to be so negative.

I just let their sad comments wash over. Why bother responding as that's what they are hoping for so that they can post more vitriolic/sad comments that reflect who they are. That particular person also uses a few different names now that we can ban both name and email.

Exactly right!
FWIW, both the UK & the US [and parts of the EU] have had, & are having serious problems with Widespread disinformation. The main way that it becomes so widespread is by using the troll's techniques -- every bit of attention magnifies their message, so what comes from a few people seems to come from sometimes many thousands [if not millions]. I know of course that this was a single troll -- not anything of magnitude -- and apologize for the maybe overblown reply, but anytime someone is seeking negative attention, here or anywhere in life, it's best to deny them that, at least publicly.

Thankfully most of the comments from a particular troll are usually hidden from the community due to using a VPN (sometimes their language is like being in a barrack room full of low rank combat troops).

I really like this game! (HoGs are may favorites and I LOVE it when they are offered here!) Downloaded and installed without a hitch.
The Gift is perfect for the Halloween season. It is a mystery with a creepy edge. Only a couple of times the 'actions' didn't make sense to me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

On a serious note, I like the look of this one, and since my external HD is dead, I've lost all my games. Likely this is one I got before but hadn't finished, so big thumbs up for today's offer.

Hi Gamer & DAdams, Go into compatibility mode and make sure the admin checkbox has been checked. If that doesn't work, check the FAQ's thread over in the Game discussion forums HERE.

If you continue to get the failed to launch message check the event logs (via the event viewer) to see if there is any further information other than 'failed to launch'. You need to check as soon as possible after the error message because the event log records everything, so you may be swamped by cryptic messages etc. If you do find more related to the issue and you can't figure what it means, please post it here. There are some excellent tech' oriented community members who may be able to suggest a fix. regards W.R.
