Looks nice. I like the toy cars racing idea - like Re-Volt or RC Pro Am. Bad thing about it (and reason I probably won't play it much) is there is no gamepad support. Playing a racing game with keyboard is not fun...

Basic but good fun for a short time. Realism isn't really in there but it's playable and controlled like alot of the older games I grew up with :)

Game plays Ok. Had a couple of tournaments early on that the game would just shut down on me. Thought the problem was done but I cannot get to tournament 19 AT ALL. Every time I get past #18 the game shuts down. Any fixes?

I wasn't able to play this game AT ALL. As soon as I started it up, it crashed my computer! I'm running XP, so no idea why it happened. I removed it immediately, but it took a few hard restarts to get my computer running again.

Couldnt play game after downloading and installation. When I tried to start the game it only showed a screen with a red car and the words "Press any key to start".
The screen just sit there no matgter what key I press. I cannot even use the ESC key to get out. I had to restart the PC as a last resort.
I am using a new Toshiba notebook with Pentium dual core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, Intel graphics card. I have had no problem with any other games that I installed prior to this. Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a fix for it?

Just a basic race car game. If it had an adjustable configuration I would have liked it, but it don't and for those of us whom are left handed these games are not worth the trouble. I suggest a mouse option.

When I was starting a tournament the program crashed and now I have to finish the first tournament to get to the next one again! I like the game but there are some errors.

It'd be nice if this had widescreen support (it'd make turning a little less difficult (since the screen stretching tends to make you over compensate - and the game seemed to run smoother in full screen than in windowed mode). But the game is a blast to play and looks really sharp and well rendered. The cars are clear and sharply defined, and the shine on the curves and high/low points of the body are superb. A very addicting little game!

Somebody is getting awful impatient! Why didn't the moderator(s) stop the 2nd and 3rd post from kalmanizer. All three are the same! That makes it look like more people comment than do. You can remove this post as well (after you remove the duplicates).

If you really want to have some fun do a little moding.. If you want car12 then go into c:\Program Files\Race Cars\Data\Cars open up car1.txt save it as car1bk.txt dont want to loose the file, then open up car12.txt and save it as car1.txt just make sure you keep car1bk.txt there so that you can open it up and save it as car1.txt so you wont loose an origanal car.

Then you can do this one too open up car1.txt and change this value to MAX_SPEED= to MAX_SPEED=100.00 I bet you can't drive that car very well.. LOL..

Then if your really good you can change this number ACCEL= to ACCEL=100.0 also..

you can change it back.. I like games where you can simply change a txt file and create a whole new game. Or have your friends play under a different car and you play under another, they get the one that is slower than yours by a bunch.. LOL..

My router turned itself off yesterday, hence the absence of a review. Today, however, it's working again.

Fun game. Reminds me a bit of RC Pro-AM and the old arcade racers by Midway (Super Off-Road, etc.)

Not terribly challenging yet, even on the "extreme" skill level, but it's more fun than minesweeper.

I never understand why folks say "it's a decent game" and then offer a rating like '5 stars out of 10' -- perhaps your standards are a bit too high for budgetware titles that are being given away for free?

But I digress...

If you are one of the many people who have complained about the lack of racing games on GGOTD, you're in luck; today's game is in the vein of the classic "RC Pro Am" game on the NES, and it plays solidly. It has a nice, simple 3D graphics engine, a decent camera, and tight controls. The music and sound effects are decent, and the textures look good. The game even has a simple menu and good instructions. Overall, this is one of the better produced games I've seen given away here.

If I have a complaint -- and it may just be because I don't find racing games to be very exciting -- it's that this game lacks variety. Don't get me wrong; I loved RC Pro Am back in the day. But that game came out over 20 years ago, and gaming has really evolved since then. Plus, like many racing games, if you make a mistake early on, you can recover easily, but if you screw up on the third or fourth lap, you may as well restart. It's too bad the game only seems to offer lap racing and not rally mode or destruction derby mode. The developer could really take a cue from the BURNOUT series and offer a crash mode as well.

But, ah well. As a 5-minute desktop diversion, this is a fun little stress-reliever. And since it's so well put together, it's worth the download.

Also the game would be more exciting if we actually got a feel as if we were actually in the game. The game camera is too far away. It doesn’t feel as realistic as a racing game should feel. I felt as if I was playing this racing game from very far away. I would rather be looking onto the road from on the ground not from in the air. Felt like I was playing in helicopter mode. I would rather be playing in car mode. Did that make sense?

Overall it is a decent game. I give it 5 stars out of 10.

Nice graphics and installed and started up smoothly. I only played one race so I cannot comment on the stability over the long haul though, it was way too touchy control wise and that made me move on rather quickly.

Some very nice features in this game and it could be quite fun,, EXCEPT there seems to be no way to remap or configure the controls. Trying to accelerate with the up arrow while turning with the left/right arrows?

This is a HUGE miss regarding this game and it is too bad because otherwise it looks fun.

Definately one of the better freebies. Thanks. It's great, controls are great, it's in 3D, and it's just a simple racer. However because it's so simple it might not be good for some people's taste. One thing I don't like is how they constantly reset when you wander off the track.

Each time I try to put it on "easy", it close itself and have to debug.

I may have video card issues but, the graphics were a little disappointing. (I agree with #42) I had several small black boxes that surrounded each car and stayed there during play. The requirements for this game call for 32mb of video memory. I have a 64mb video card (I know I need a bigger one:) ), is that the same thing? That could be my problem. Otherwise the game isn't that impressive to me. I am not good at controling that car with keyboard controls, I was all over the place. A way to adjust the sensitivity of the controls might help. This isn't a bad game, just one that I am not that good at and may not play much.

Why does everyone claim to have photo-realistic graphics?! This simply doesn't have it. Just look at the trees in the screen-shots... Photo-realistic? Pfff...

Whiterabbit # 15 is correct. This is the exact same game you can get free from gametop.com. It's a fairly fun game but only with keyboard control. I may try the program suggested by janw # 24 because for me the keyboard is hard to control. Overall I would rate this a 6.5 out of 10. Graphics were okay, I just with the camera had more options. Game played fine on my system. The car steered like a pregnant yak to me, but I think the starter car was supposed to do that.
