Test Cars

In Brief

Today's game was made using the Unity engine. You get to test three different cars, i.e. a rally, police and an old car. You have a large arena like area where you can drive each car; (great for drifting). You can see the various key bindings via some of the images I've posted below. The vehicle models look decent (though are not up to the standard of the latest AAA vehicle based games) , the handling isn't too bad, but not perfect. Overall it's a reasonable game for what it is, but to be honest, I wouldn't call it a game as there is no challenge apart from getting used to the cars handling; and, there seems little point to it after several minutes of driving around the roads and over the bridge. There's nothing to race against, just drive around until you've had enough. This would have been much better if there were some AI cars to race against. You can change the camera view using C and reset the game using R. Controlling the car is via the WASD or the arrow keys. You can see a video of game play HERE

The latest free game from Epic Games is one we've been given previously called For the King. It's a procedurally generated game with a challenging blend of strategy, turn-based combat, and roguelike elements.

Also available for free this week is the excellent Metro: Last Light Redux which you'll find HERE. (The game is one of my favourite post apocalyptic survival games and second in the Metro series; based on the stories written by the Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky ), The Metro series is the spiritual successors to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series (Shadow of Chernobyl (2007), Clear Skies (2008) and Call of Pripyat (2010). From Thursday afternoon (4pm UK time) we will be getting Halcyon 6 Starbase Commander; a retro space strategy RPG with base building, deep tactical combat, crew management and emergent storytelling.

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game and it came back totally free of any malware hits from 58 different engines. The executable does include some low level adware that opens your browser to Falcowares home page once the gam has installed, but does not inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcowares home page it earns them some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free.
