With so many comments it is taking me forever to work through them all. I am taking a break for the rest of the evening, but will attempt to answer any comment that requires an answer later tonight once I've played a few games and watch a movie or two. I need a break. Been a this for hours.

Dear users,

Thank you very much for your feedback, we completely understand your frustration and we are doing our best to preserve the old giveaway concept, i.e. the distribution method we are using today WILL NOT be applied to all the future giveaways.

Unfortunately, some of the developers we've been working with for a long time, like Alawar Entertainment, can provide us with free games, only using more complex distribution methods.

Please mind, that providing you with less stressful activation methods is and always will be our top priority, but sometimes we have to choose between leaving a weekend with no games or giving away a game through a more complex distribution method.

Once again thank you for your support and understanding. We will do our best to provide you with great games that are easier to get in the future.

Always yours,
GOTD Team

Giveaway of the Day,

I do not hold you all responsible for the conditions required by the vendor "giving" the software away.

I am always free to agree or not when it comes to providing the information a vendor requires.

I will not be "leaving" Giveaway of the Day because I am not able to get every game or application offered.

Vendors who have some level of exchange system - i.e., do these things and we will give you a copy of our program - (or enter you into a drawing for a certain amount of licenses) - will very likely be increasing as the global economic system continues to deteriorate.

One very positive situation I recently encountered, here on GOTD, was with the "enter to win" a license for Curvy 3D. I did not win. I then asked if they would consider giving a discount for those of us who did not win one. They responded by giving us a 75% off discount.

People are always free to go elsewhere for freebies and discounts. People are always free to choose not to participate in any giveaway they do not agree with the conditions for. And people are always free to chose where they will invest their time.

One of the things I have learned over the past 65 years is that there truly is no such thing as a "free lunch." Everything "free" has a cost. If not to me, than for someone.

I would rather have the option of a game or program - an option I am free to accept or not - than to have none at all.

So thank you for making every effort to provide giveaways with little or no extra steps required.

And thank you for choosing to also agree to offer the occasional giveaway which requires the jumping through some hoops.

Getting a 75% discount for Curvy 3D was absolutely worth doing what was needed to be done in order to have had a chance for winning a free license.

As always, others mileage might vary.

Giveaway of the Day,
Well, considering that I went straight from here over to one of my other sources and downloaded the game within three minutes - WITHOUT JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS - yeah, kinda not believing this line you're feeding us here.

.......................Moderator Comment...............................

Was that from MyPlayCity? If so, can you tell me if they have stopped requiring you to check the boxes to stop installing toolbars etc evertime you start a game up. The last time I downloaded and installed a game from MPC you had to watch out as they had become quite sneaky with respect to installing toolbars and changing your home page etc. Also do those other sources all open your browser when you close the game down? All of those sites actually pay the developers a retainer every year to be able to give the games away. Every time you visit their sites they earn cash, which pays for the games and of course makes them a profit. Nothing wrong with that so long as the consumer doesn't get bitten. I tenmd to stay away from them now unless i need the game to review, but i always keep my eyes open to make sure I don't get toolbars installed etc. My favorite used to be Gametop, but they don't have much variety these days. At least MPC have well over a thousand games to choose from. :)

Giveaway of the Day,

Thanks.

Unfortunately today's game is one I'll never be able to play because, despite jumping through the various hoops and signing up to sites I don't want to sign up to, I still can't download it!

I don't complain if a game comes up that I don't like - because that's the way it works, and I'm delighted when you do offer something I know I'll enjoy even if it's a game that's several years old.

I do hope you'll be able to go back to the easier download etc., because it seems that if you don't then the site will die, which will be a great pity.

Giveaway of the Day,

Don't believe you, period. We're told below it wasn't Alawar that caused this but you lot. You lot are telling us it's Alawar. You have a very long history of ignoring anything we say about anything and doing what you want. You don't care one whit what we think on anything (like the site changes), treat your mods like crap, talk down to us, edit our comments if you don't like them and various other whatever. Then you lay blame elsewhere. Not buying it. It's just you responding in the face of a huge backlash when you try to force us to do something and we refuse. It comes down to this won't work. I have shared links on FB for some of what you give away with a recommendation AFTER I TRIED IT. Those are the sort who get you the hits you want. This? It doesn't as I refuse to do so and refuse to download. I hate Steam and am doing nothing there. I do not visit pages when forced. No game is worth this, especially since i went and downloaded it elsewhere in under a minute, which means i get the game and you lot get no review :P Which hurts more? Most of these game you can find elsewhere for free. Think about that... You aren't the end all be all for this and we can go elsewhere, which we do. The more you pull these stunts, the more we will then where will you be?

Sparrowhawk,

I am truly not meaning to have my question marks come across in a snide or sneerful fashion. i really do want to understand how I am mistreating the moderator?

Here is the comment I posted elsewhere to Whiterabbit......

************************************

I absolutely hold you and your in-depth reviews in the highest respect. If you need to step away from investing so much of your time in continuing to provide them, please do not hesitate to do so.

I simply ask for you to consider that if the only reason you would stop is because of some giveaways requiring steps that all folks either cannot or will not take, that you consider simply not reviewing THOSE specific giveaways.

If, however, there are other reasons why you need or want to step away, please do what you need to do for yourself and your family.

Whatever you finally choose to do, please accept my deep appreciation for all you do and have done each week for all of us.

*************************************

Please help me to clearly see where I have gone astray.

Thanks.

Louis Hazard, I think you misread the comment about Stephen, in no way shape or form have i seen you misteating our favorite GOTD mod, the cmment is directed at the giveaway team right at the start. And I agree with that comment. There are to much days that the great white hopping dude could not get into his admin panel and had to post the same way as we do, comes with that the fact they change the site, the layout, the way giveaways work etc without informing their mods. Yes they do not treat their mods with the respect they deserve

I can not talk for Stephen of course but I have a sneaky suspicion that the recent changes only is a catalyst rather then the definitive reason. Don't forget he is doing this for years now and as most of us regulars know by now, his health is not the best AND like the rest of us, he actually has a family and life to live as well. It will be a sad day when he decides to leave but if anyone on tis site deserves to take a break it is him.

Stephen, as for you, you know my sentiments, no need to join the spontanious tickertape parade on here for me ;)

..........................Moderator Comment................................

Thanks for your comment Mav, appreciated. With respect to the giveaway team, I do see why they have done what they have done. It's increasingly difficult to get free games so they have had to resort to strategies that would hopefully bring in new members to the community. Sadly this doesn't seem to have worked in this case or when they updated the site as numbers downloading games each weekend has fallen steadily since the site change. This week has been the lowest I've ever seen with only 318 downloads compared to before the site change where regularily more than 10 000 were downloaded. since the site change the highest I've seen is just over 6000, but generally downloads are now between 2000 to 4000, which is a massive reduction in numbers. Maybe numbers will increase as word spreads via Facebook and Twitter; sadly the simple open the browser to the game giveaway and immediately download your game seems to have gone. (Though as I've said several times since the changes, you can skip the FB and Email steps when we get the usual gamegiveaways if you wish).

Giveaway of the Day, Dear team, like many others I don't buy for a second that this is Alawar forcing your hand especially since the greenlight game was NOT an Alawar game to begin with. However it doesn't matter who is the initiator of this distributing methode, it is wrong... period.

Look, I have no issues jumping through hoops for the extra giveaways like the rabiez game, after all it will give me a steam key if I win one of the licenses which means I can install and play as long as I have my seam account (really people, Steam is not some evil facebook like platform, it actually is a great way to get many good games without the hassle of keys and often has great deals, better yet, they don't post your activiites to every frigging " social" platform unless you specifically ask them to, besides that your steam account CAN function as login to many game related sites as well... ok back to the GOTD team)
I DO however mind doing this for a game I will lose if something happends to my system, before you go to deep into the steam requirement it might be good to know that posting about giveawayoftheday and it's offerings when gamerelated is considered spam, even if the same software is sold on Steam itself. The recent Myrilis Action giveaway almost had cost me my account as I got an official warning within five minutes of posting about it and I was told to remove mentions to GOTD from my profile page... just so you know. Don't cuddle to deep with Steam because the love is not a two way street

Giveaway of the Day,

People are far to quick to complain. What's with this I want.. I want.... Give me... Give me.... ? No vendor is under any obligation to give you their software for free. Be grateful that some are prepared to do so.

I don't see the problem with having to do an extra step to get free software. I didn't in this case but not because of the extra step, only because it's not the kind of game that interests me.

I will be careful though when dealing with vendors that I don't know but a once-off setup of a free email account for Jack Frost isn't the end of the world. Are there really people out there who don't yet have such an account?

swa, no need to be excused. Your access to languages surpasses mine! It is I who needs to remember to step back and not assume that I am actually hearing what another is saying. (Probably a major reason why there is so much discord among Nations.)

My native language is English, but it is time for all of us who have English as the official language of our country to not assume that what WE read or heard in English means what we think it does.

All I can remember from my high school German is how to ask if someone is going to the library. If I were to translate what I was trying to say, into German, I might be responsible for a major diplomatic crises!

Reminds me of the following from The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams

********************************************************

It is of course well known that careless talk costs lives, but the full scale of the problem is not always appreciated.

For instance, at the very moment that Arthur said "I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle," a freak wormhole opened up in the fabric of the space-time continuum and carried his words far far back in time across almost infinite reaches of space to a distant Galaxy where strange and warlike beings were poised on the brink of frightful interstellar battle.

The two opposing leaders were meeting for the last time.

A dreadful silence fell across the conference table as the commander of the Vl'hurgs, resplendent in his black jewelled battle shorts, gazed levelly at the G'Gugvuntt leader squatting opposite him in a cloud of green sweet-smelling steam, and, with a million sleek and horribly beweaponed star cruisers poised to unleash electric death at his single word of command, challenged the vile creature to take back what it had said about his mother.

The creature stirred in his sickly broiling vapour, and at that very moment the words I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle drifted across the conference table.

Unfortunately, in the Vl'hurg tongue this was the most dreadful insult imaginable, and there was nothing for it but to wage terrible war for centuries.

Eventually of course, after their Galaxy had been decimated over a few thousand years, it was realized that the whole thing had been a ghastly mistake, and so the two opposing battle fleets settled their few remaining differences in order to launch a joint attack on our own Galaxy - now positively identified as the source of the offending remark.

For thousands more years the mighty ships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the first planet they came across - which happened to be the Earth - where due to a terrible miscalculation of scale the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog.

Those who study the complex interplay of cause and effect in the history of the Universe say that this sort of thing is going on all the time, but that we are powerless to prevent it.

"It's just life," they say.

**************************************************

Thank you, swa.

I'm sure many community members will be appalled at the new tasks you have to carry out before you can get a download link. This in my opinion is just one step too far from the original concept. I really don't know whether I can continue posting reviews and moderating as it's become more of a burden than a task I enjoyed doing.

To the giveaway team, many community members will not have Steam accounts or Facbook accounts and many of those don't want them. This will exclude many regulars that have been coming to this site for many years. I do hope you remove the new addition.

regards

Stephen

Whiterabbit-uk,

Whiterabbit-uk, I think that many of us are getting ready to leave the community. I, for one, thank you for all your guidance and informative criticism that is lacking on most sites. There are enough Free sites on the Net that we can use to get the new FREE games, without all the extra BS of going thru FB or using that obnoxiuos STEAM. I have bought games and NEVER been able to access them thru steam, and never gotten a response from anyone when trying to resolve the issues ... they get my money and I never get to use the game! I finally chalked it uo to the cost of a life lesson, but go out of my way to steer friends AWAY from Steam.
Gonna miss you if you leave, Oh, Long, Floppy eared Hopper. Your reviews were the first things I read every week end. Hooray if you stay ... sob if you leave!

Whiterabbit-uk, this is a shame. I don't want to give up seeing your name and comments Stephen! Is there a place where we can see your reviews of games you are trying or have tried? Rixxter, I agree with you but I'm curious about the steam issue you've had. Your games should be in your inventory if you don't see them on the download list. If you still have the steam client, have you tried opening that, hover over your name and go to Inventory, then click on Steam tab? I've been with steam for many many years and I've never had a problem with games I can't access. See if that helps you. :)

Stephen, I agree completely, and I sympathise wholly with your feelings about calling it a day if these tasks aren't rolled back.

There's one issue in particular I'd like to flag - the requirement to share on Facebook. Facebook demands registration with your real name, so everything you do with your Facebook account is public information, whether you like it or not.

Although playing casual games and collecting free software are harmless activities, I consider it unwise to advertise all of your leisure pursuits to acquaintances, colleagues, employers, every potential and future employer, and anyone else who ever has cause to Google your name for the rest of your life.

Needless to say, I won't be collecting a free copy of Terrafarmers. A shame, because the game looks fun.

Whiterabbit-uk, Hi Dear Stephen! Today You spoke also for GGOTD Community members and that deserves a note of Thank You. In recent times and since this Site, once happy, vibrant and bustling with activity become a 'ghost town', or graveyard of it's past glory - You have been most loyal Fan of GGOTD (as Moderator and 'one of us'..) to a point where justifying changes made by Giveaway Team and their efforts to provide free Games for this Site (at all!) became painfully sad to watch, sorry.
And yet - those of us who would still visit this Site (out of old habit if nothing more any longer) stayed hopeful that there would be some change of heart, some form of gracious 'U-Turn' to the whole concept and structure that WORKED before, and in return HELPED to promote GGOTD, Vendors, Games!!?

It is not hard to understand that ALL of it can only be possible (again?) if Visitors VISIT, commentators COMMENT, Users feel FREE and HAPPY not only to obtain free Games (there are other Sites!), but GLADLY recommend this Site to others (not to mention giving up free time for Games Presentations, writing Comments, creating INTEREST and FUN!). At present, sadly - NONE of it stands, and as wee can see, is worth even trying! It is particularly more bitter and poignant, when this supposed to be 10th (happy) Anniversary of GOTD, and later GGOTD!.. Know expression of feeling an 'useful idiot'? Unfortunately that's what springs to mind playing own part in this Giveaway Experience. I wish You WhiteRabbit and All past and present GGOTD Community Members better times ahead! Thanks.

Whiterabbit-uk,
Thanks so much for speaking out. I too wasted money on the Steam engine and never did get a game to load.
I've touted this site to all my FB friends but no more.

While wanting the good old old days when there was a game every day, I could well understand why it became a weekend thing. But now, 'win a key' takes away a day. Name the site one giveaway game a week.

I would rather see going back to the beginning of the list of games and accept that I may already have the game than keeping on with this nonsense.

Hate to see you go sir. And may be joining you. Thanks for all your hard work.

For me it shows how little GGOTD really cares; when they treat you this way they won't give a ..... about the users of the site.

My dear friend Whiterabbit-uk (it's been so many years of reading and enjoying your comments and reviews that I feel you are my friend), I am saddened, as many others are, by the direction GGOTD has taken. I teach various aspects of computing at a U.S. college, and every semester I advise at least 200 students (that's anywhere from 400-600 college students a year) to visit this site and GOTD. We discuss the offerings every week, and I know that many of those students have purchased games from Playrix, BigFishGameClub, and the other amazing vendors of the weekly free games. GGOTD's 10th anniversary and change in policies will mark the end of these recommendations - that's at least 5,000 clients for you and customers for your vendors that you are losing (as many of my students and former students share fav sites with their families and friends, I'm sure the number is far larger). While each individual writing to protest this change may not seem like much to the site's owners, I hope my comment is recognized as backed by at least 5,000 other unhappy FORMER clients.

That said, please don't leave us, Whiterabbit Stephen - leave a bunny trail for us to follow. Or I'll not only lose my favorite early weekend morning ritual - visiting GGOTD and sending/receiving hundreds of emails discussing those offerings - but someone whose opinions are respected and who has become dear to so many people.

Whiterabbit-uk,

It was YOU who made this site what it was. I think I speak for many when I say that. Sure, the free games were nice but you served as our guide. Your reviews, suggestions and help brought the human side to things that is so often lacking online.

It is quite sad that the GGOTD team does not recognize the value you provide. At least it seems that way. The handwriting was on the wall when they changed the format of the site. It has been downhill ever since. I rarely use the GOTD site anymore since the change. BDJ and SWOS have them beat in that department now.

Anyway, I will still keep checking here for awhile, for games and for your reviews. However long, or short, that may be, I just wanted to be sure to thank you, Stephen, for all your efforts over the years.

Hi Louis, I'm just a little tired. I've spent literally thousands of hours over the past nine years writing reviews, moderating these comments and administering the forums. It's been a pleasure for most of it, especially the feedback from the community. In fact it's the community that has kept me here. The giveaway team has thanked me once a few years ago. apart from a few messages in the forums letting me know what the next game was going to be there has been no communication with them at all.

It's the negativity of recent months that has become a little too much for me. I don't patticularily want to stop, but I'm not happy with the recent changes. Maybe I'm just an old stick in the mud and hate changes, we shall have to see what happens over the coming weeks. :)

Nothing more to add, Whiterabbit-uk.

The whole social media involvement surrounding games, software and giveaways in general is in my opinion overdone a long time already. I'm pretty sure everyone heard about sites like gleam.io and the possibilities to add certain amounts of steps in order to be able to participate, there is no maximum to steps in theory, which means that there aren't any guarantees that it will remain let's say "only" 3 steps, in the next one it might be 6, 16 or even 30, where the amount of steps equals possible game value (but that is rather the opposite), you know what i'm talking about.

I've already grabbed lots of free ones and purchased so many games that i wouldn't bother to even look at this section anymore with that type of system in place and the reality is, that there are a lot of better games than time management or hidden object ones, that's a matter of opinion though and in theory they all are the same game in a different outfit, a variety in games given away in general is almost non-existent and if such a new system makes it to the public over night, it should at least be worth it to spend the required time but it really isn't worth the hassle IMO.

Not every system that worked for years requires a change, especially when it's not for the better, again, IMO.

Games have become sop cheap over the past several years, especially now when yopu can buy a game bundle for a few dollars and get upwards of a hundred dollars worth of games. At this time there are at least 40 different game bundles available, with a range of genres that I'm sure most community members would find agreeable. Even the big AAA games have been featured in these bundles, I bought a couple of AAA bundles that had over $800 worth of excellent AAA games included for a cost of only $10. Most newly released games will be found ion sales within several months of release with up to 75% off the original release price. Wait a little longer and you may even grad a bargain at 90% off. so, games have become easy to buy for very little. I know the gamegiveawaya featured here tend to be either HOG's, TM or Match 3's, but that's only becasue those three genres have been over the past decade the most popular and therefore there are literally thousands to choose from. Thankfully we do see other genres appearing here; maybe not often, bet they do appear and can often be little gems.

The addition of Steam requiremnts IMO has been a little bit of a disaster as it does mean creating yet more ame accounts and I think you have to install the client as well. I already have the client installed because i buy the bulk of my games via Steam, so it wasn't an issue for me, but I'm sure it will be for many others.

Whiterabbit-uk, you are absolutely correct.

I don't like the "Steam" concept and wouldn't have a Steam account even as a gift. As for Farcebook, likewise no way am I ever going to have an account on any social nonsense of that sort.

In particular, I don't like the way this site is tending towards Steam licences or whatever they are called. I like standalone games installed 100% ON MY PC, and like Rixxter, Steam is NOT the way to go.

Hi Cad, I understand where you are coming from as I didn't want Steam on my computers several years ago. I much preferred stand alone games. My collection of games were all DVD based a tthat time. when they introduced DRM that changed the boundaries a little as you had to create accounts to be able to play your game. The first one I remember doing this was EA games with their release of Battlefield 2042. The only way you can play that game is if you sign into an EA account. Then I purchased two digital games from Direct 2 Drive which were tagged as Steamwork games (Galactic Bowling and Defense Grid: The Awakening). I didn't know what Steamwork meant at the time and didn't bother checking. I purchased the games only to find I had to install Steam to play them. As I really wanted to play them I went ahead. There are so many great games that are Steamworks only now I couldn't do without Steam; (e.g. The more recent games in the Total War series, which is one of my favorite games, also Steam has introduced me to Japanese games such as the Nobunaga's Ambition series(similar to the Total War series) which I'd never have experienced if I'd not installed Steam. I still prefer standalone hard copies, but to be honest, if you want certain games (which I do) I haveno9 choice but to have Steam installed. If you aren't as fussy over what games you play, there are still games you can buy that are free standing, but they are becoming increasingly rarer.

Lets hope the giveaway team decide to drop the three steps. I'm sure there are a lot more community member slike yourself that do not or will not install Steam.

p.s. if i offered to give you several hundred dollars worth of Steam games would you still not install Steam? I have at least 4 thousand spare Steam codes for many games (most bought via the indie bundles). I'd be happy to give you a hundred or so if you installed Steam.

Whiterabbit-uk,
Dear Mr. Rabbit / Stephen ,
You are absolutely right.
Thank you for always for all your work and for always being such a nice guy :-)
Personally I only filled out one the giveaway requirement (I am already member of their Steam group but will not sign in through here and I am certainly not going to sign in through / lik to FB either) , but that didn't give any game so I guess that Alawar will have to keep their game - a pity since I felt like trying it ;)

Hi my dear Steam friend. It's actually quite a decent time management game. If you like any of the Farm Frenzy games this is as good, if not better.

Whiterabbit-uk,
YES. THIS.

I have never had a Facebook account and will never have one. I can't imagine why anyone opens themselves up to that awful company. Requiring US to have an account with them is not only wrong, it's a great way to chase off members.

And by the way, people, you actually can get these games for free elsewhere. I have a couple of sources, and none of them make me jump through ridiculous hoops. So not really believing the whole "this is the only way to get these" line.

......................Moderator Comment...........................

Most of the games can be downloaded via sites like MyPlayCity, tohugh they do have their own hidden extra's. The advantages with gamegiveaways at least previously was that they were clean and usually free standing installs
.

Rixxter, log into you Steam account using your browser and locate the games that you have purchased and been given for free; I'm thinking it's under "My Account". Highlight and copy (control c) the activation code for one of the games. Open up Steam on your computer and click on the 'Games' drop down menu and select 'Active a game on Steam'. Paste the activation code where requested and click 'Finish' when everything is done. Next select the 'Library' drop down menu and locate the game you just activated. If it hasn't started to download, click on it and will begin to download. Do the same for the rest of the games that you have purchased. You can always reinstall your games later if your computer crashes, etc.

Jen,

Hi Jen, please excuse my lateness. I've never had to moderate so many comments before. also I was busy for quite a large proportion of today. A friend was going to set up a site and administer it for me. I'd prepared around a hundred reviews that were going to be posted then I was going to post reviews for not only giveaway games but new releases and games i tohught warranted a mention. Unfortunately my friend had some problems that prevented him from creating the site and the project never got off the ground. I'm totally useless when it comes to web design partly becasue I don't find it interesting.

Despite this I have considered setting up a web site in the recent past, as I do have the appropriate tools to do so and the space on the web to do so, but it would take up too much of my time to create, run and maintain the site as well as post reviews etc.

Stephen, it's a kind offer, sir, but I'd literally rather stab my hands with a blunt rusty fork (repeatedly) than have ANYthing to do with Steam >ack< >ptui<, and even the threat of death if I didn't comply wouldn't persuade me to install their software.

.......................Moderator Comment.................................

:) I understand.
It was a genuine offer as I really do have thousands of spare Steam keys for a whole range of Steam games. I've been trying to put them into some sort of order for several months now. Once done I intend to add some to my second Steam account (which I may end up selling as it was originally created for my childrens friends when they came to sleep over, but they seem to have grown out of such things, that account has around 1400 games at the moment, but I doubt I'll get even a small fraction of what it would cost to buy every game in the account). The rest of the Steam keys I'll add to my childrens accounts and probably give away to friends. I was even considering giving a couple of games away here each week as well (at least to those writing decent feedback, hopefully giving some community members the incentive to post), but until I know whether I'm staying, that is on hold. :)

Rixxter,

Hi Rixxter, I was surprised to hear of the problems you've had using Steam. Personally since buying my first Steam works games (not directly from Steam) and being forced to install Steam before I could play them, I've not had many problems installing and playing my games. Of those that have been problematic, it's usally been my fault, and there has always been a fix. Contacting the Steam help desk or checking the Steam forums have helped me get the games working. for example, I used to play a game called Fallout 3 several years ago. When Win 7 was released Fallout 3 wouldn't play via Steam, but a simple fix in the config file, which was posted in the Steam forums got the game working on Win 7.

Because of the massive community, it does take a little longer for queries to be answered, but I've never had one ignored ever. They have always tried to help, or have directed me to where I could ge thelp. I've even had several refunds for games I purchased previously (and this was before they changed their policy on all games refunds), for example, I gifted an expensive game (cost me £55) to a good friend (whome I met here on the giveaway project). Sadly he passed away before he'd ever got a chance to play the game. I approached Valve and explained that I'd purchased the game so that I could play cooperatively with a friend, but he'd passed before I'd got the chance to play with him. They transferred the game back to my account so that I was able to give it to someone else even though it had been tied to his account for several months.

I'm sure if you contacted them and explained that you've never been able to get the games you purchased working, they would solve the issues, or just check the forums to see if anyone has had similar problems. What games were they?

The giveaway team have added a further step before you can download the game. To get a download link click on the green 'Proceed to download page', then click on the green download now button, a box appears with three tasks (see the first image in my review above). This is new to the game giveaway and as yet I don't know whether the giveaway team are just trialing it or whether it will be a permanent feature (I hope not), you have to join a Steam group, like a particular game on Steams Greenlight project and go to a Facebook page. Two of these tasks cannot be done unless you create a Steam account( which is free). That said, you may just be able to skip over this - I can't say at this time because I went ahead and did all three tasks and can't try again until the next game.

Once you've completed all three tasks a small download link appears that says ''Your personal download link'' that is located just above the three tasks.

If you are having problems installing today's game and if you don't want to use an email account or a Facebook account to download today's game see the moderator comment at end of this review. Thank you. I noticed the giveaway team have included a new section that you need to fill in beofre you can download the game that is similar to the tasks you have to carry out to enter yesterdays competition, except there are only three tasks to perform and there are unlimited numbers of downloads. Whether this is going to be a permanent feature I cannot say at this time. I do hope not as i'm sure many community members will not have twitter accounts or Facebook accounts. I had to use my daughters twitter account and my sons Facebook account, both of which have been inactive for a long time to get todays download. (see the first image below)

If you have any problems installing or running todays game please follow the link below to the FAQ's thread HERE. If todays game doesn't appeal you can find recent game deals (now called The Weekly Roundup of Game Deals) HERE.

The Game:

Terraforming is the process of making barren planets and moons habitable for life. Terrafarmers, meanwhile, is the process of turning the well-worn Farm Frenzy game formula into something new and interesting again. Alawar’s latest time management game has a lot in common with the FF series, but it’s more than just the same old game with a sci-fi makeover. Terrafarmers adds plenty of new ideas and twists on the formula to create a fun and fast paced experience that will make you forget about all those terrible spin-offs.

terrafarmers 003
terrafarmers 004
You play as the captain of a terraforming crew, travelling around to various planets, and sprucing them up with plant life to make them livable. Problem is, at some point you come across a lost baby. A human baby. So the rest of the game is spent making your way across the galaxy in order to get the baby back to Earth. And along the way you’ll fix up plenty of planets and battle plenty of space pirates. The story itself is pretty sparse, and only makes a brief appearance every few levels or so. But it serves as a good set-up for the actual gameplay.

The set-up of the game will be very familiar to Farm Frenzy veterans. The map is divided up into a series of increasingly difficult levels, which you’ll complete one at a time, in a linear fashion. The levels too, will look familiar. In the middle of the screen is an empty field, which is surrounded by all sorts of machinery. Only instead of a farm, you’ll be transforming a planet. There’s a machine that produces plant life, which you can place on the field. Once you have enough greenery alien life will start to develop. There’s a machine that you can use to evolve these different aliens, and each one of them will produce a different item.

terrafarmers 005
terrafarmers 006
As with previous games, these items that are produced can be refined via various machines and turned into more expensive goods, and there’s also a new blender that can combine different items into new ones. You have a spaceship that can fly off and sell the good you produce, and there’s also a new market feature that lets you sell goods to wandering aliens. This will earn you more money than the spaceship, but it takes longer. Each level will give you a variety of goals to accomplish, such as earning a certain amount of money, collecting a certain amount of a specific good, or raising a certain number of animals. In addition, most of the levels will require you to make the planet 100 percent habitable, which can be accomplished by planting enough greenery. And in true FF fashion, you’ll earn a medal based on how quickly you manage to complete the level.

Terrafarmers also features enemies, though they are no where near as annoying as the bears and sharks from the FF games. This time around you’ll be fighting off pesky space pirates, which you can do with a handy cannon. It’s much more satisfying blowing away pirates than simply clicking like crazy on a bear. And unlike the bears the pirates won’t clog up your inventory; instead, you’ll automatically earn some cash once you defeat them.

terrafarmers 007
terrafarmers 008
As you complete levels you’ll earn DNA points, which can be used for a variety of things. You can buy upgrades, like a better cannon for fending off pirates, or you can use the points to access hidden areas of the game. These areas can only be accessed by spending DNA points, so if you want to see everything in the game you’ll need to save up.

In addition to all of the gameplay tweaks, Terrafarmers also features a drastically different visual style compared to the FF games. Many of the planets look completely different from one another, from rocky surfaces to deserts, and as you terraform you’ll get to see them slowly change into green and beautiful oasis’. It’s very satisfying to actually be able to see the fruits of your labor in such a direct way. Everything else in the game is suitably strange and alien, from the different creatures that pop up to the weird items they produce. Pig-like creatures will create honeycombs, little blue bat monsters will lay eggs. It’s all quite odd and perfectly in keeping with the sci-fi theme.

Conclusion:

If you liked the Farm Frenzy series you'll love this fresh take on that particular formulae. New gameplay elements, a new theme, and a new visual style go a long way towards making this an excellent spin-off. If you’ve grown sick of capturing bears and raising chickens, this world filled with aliens and other strange creatures is the perfect remedy. :)

To those who don't want a Facebook account, or to use an email to be able to download today's game, there's no need. Just go through the motions, i.e. click on the green 'proceed to download page' then click on Download now. You will be given two options, either have a download link sent to you via email or open up your Facebook account. Ignore the email method and click on the Facebook button, when the Facebook login window appears, just cancel it. The final green download button will then appear and you can download as normal.
To those that continue to have problems installing games from this site; it's more than likely due to the gamegiveaway wrapper which contains Themida code. Some anti-malware suites see anything with Themida coding as a threat (due to it's sometimes use in hiding bad code), so your anti-malware suite may block the download. It has been shown, time and time again that disabling your security 'temporarily' should solve the problem. Once you've unwrapped and installed the game, your anti-malware can be turned back on. There is no difference in how the games are downloaded now or previous to the recent site upgrade. I know many of you are dubious about turning off your security, but if you consider that the game giveaway site has been operating since Dec 2006. They used to give games away every day (minus the odd day when they were doing server maintenance); then, when they changed to weekends only early Spring 2008 they have given away games virtually every weekend since (well over a thousand games) and no game has ever been infected with malware. The giveaway team check every game given away using several anti-malware suites before the games are released to the community. The giveaway site has a very good standing with all the major search engines and the giveaway team do not want to jeopardize that by allowing malware ridden games to be given away.

Thanks for the good review, as usual, but it is probably pretty useless. Will someone download this game with the absurd new requirements? I don't think so. Anyway, I will pass on all GOTD offers until they come back to a more acceptable method.

Thanks for the previous offers, GOTD.

Hi Whiterabbit

Thanks for all your hard work through out the years. I've had a Steam acc. for about seven years now never had a problem.
The only thing I run into with these type of giveaways is Steam has to sent me a code, but that's because of how I have my

Tried on and off all day, but I give up. I don't have enough room left in my computer to install Steam and it seems they will not verify the account unless you have it installed? I joined and unjoined the requested group on my (unverified, because they have not sent an email to verify it) account, and giveaway still says that I haven't joined. I wasn't interested in Steam anyway, but I would have tried the game.

Hi Stephen
Thanks for all the years of hard work.
I have an number of WinXP laptops worn out and chockfull of Giveaway software large number of which untouched. I guess I should pay to resurect the laptops now.
Unfortunately couple of weeks/months back I bought a "new" laptop (Win7). Now without Giveaway it will be a doorstop as I do not want to buy anything online and expose this household to Identity Theft. If I could pay for software with a cheque I would be happy.
But looking around I see that I bought a whole bunch of games on CD-ROM back in the day I never got around to installing.
I will miss the community( testers) that let me know what is/was worth getting and Giovanni with his free alternatives :-(.
Thanks again

Why is it called Game Giveaway of the Day when the game is not given away that day? If getting the game is a contest, and it has to have entries in order to get the game, then it should be called a Drawing of The Day. Doesn't that sound more honest?

........................Moderator Comment........................

Hi Valerie, I think the main reason is because the game giveawayoftheday name has a very good standing with the major search engines. changing the name could comporomise this. The better the standing, the more likely entries in a search will show at the top or near the top of the search list. This is advantageous for the giveaway site as more community members are likely to find the site. Apart from that, it's an easy name to rember.

I've sent Alawar an email letting them know that Giveawayoftheday.com is costing them business by initiating these obnoxious measures and blaming it on them.

I recommend that others do the same.

It's clear that the Giveawayoftheday.com team doesn't care what we site visitors think about these changes but they have no choice but to care what the folks providing the free games think.

..........................Moderator comment..............................

Hi Jim, The giveaway team posted a comment earlier apologising for this new step and have said it will be removed. Though the message also implied that some developers required extra steps before they would give any games away. We shall see next week. I hope they repeat todays game because it's actually quite good, yet only 271 community members have downloaded it and we are over three quarters of the way through the giveaway. Usually by this stage thousands of copies have been downloaded. If you still want to try todays game it can be downloaded 24/7 from either MyPlayCity or TooMky Games, tohugh do watch out for the ceckboxes and make sure you uncheck everything, otherwise you'll be getting toolbars added and home pages changed.

I have played this game for a little while and have some likes and dislikes. Likes:
1. Plays very much like farm frenzy
2. Story line so far is good

Dislikes:
1. Sometimes the instructions on how to play activate while the timer for the game is already started making it hard to follow instructions and still complete level on first try. You have to watch it play through then retry level and disable instructions to be able to move fast enough to get various tasks done. I think if instructions are playing the timer should not be running until you are done reading what you have to do to finish the level.

2. The alien hand that you use to capture animals and plant vegetation should be a little bit easier to click on things. As it stands the tip of the hand has to be on it for it to pick up item which also takes away from the timer of the game as if you are not precise you can not gather item.

Overall I like the game, but not the timer as it seems to short to get done as you wait or click your way out of instructions which uses up your precious time. Which then forces you to play the level over and over again and click out of the instructions to finish the level.

Thank you for your feedback crickt878, very much much appreciated

Out of almost 140 comments I think yours is the first one to actually talk about todays game. Thank you. I'm not a lover of Time Management games, but I did like the Farm Frenzy series, at least the first three or four before it got ridiculous. I though this new look was a great idea and good fun to play. Pity most community members have missed out on this game. Only 271 community members have downloaded this game today compared to an average of around seven thousand; (though since the new look site the number have fallen significantly), the lowest number I can ever remember apart from maybe when the game giveaway first started Dec 2006.

No problem, I am really enjoying the game so far. It was hard to get the game as I have never signed up for a steam site before. I had to play around with what to do next and am glad I kept trying. I must admit it was frustrating trying to get the second task of joining a steam site done not knowing the difference of registering my name and then clicking on join. I thought that by signing up that was the same thing at first. I didn't realize you had to sign up and actually click the join button on the steam site as two different steps. Once I figured that out everything else worked really well.

One suggestion I have is for newbies to this type of format to have a walk through so people do not get lost or confused if they want to try it. If this was available under the tasks to do it would make it easier for people to see what they need to do to continue to get the game and not get frustrated thinking that they joined a group by signing up to the site. That on the site after you are registered you must click the join tab.

Another is wording as the first time I did the first task I expected to get the game and could not figure out what to do to get it. The wording was confusing and misleading. If worded correctly I would have still tried to get game even if I got lost trying to figure out what I had to do to get it. :)

Now that you have a Steam account you have access to quite a few free games. not the free to play games that tend to be pay to win becasue to actually win you need to buy dlc's that can be very expensive. They have a decent nuber of single player freebies. There are Steam groups that list all of the free games available. The following link shows just one of those lists, thugh the games included in the list are a mixture of free and Free to play games. the main distinction I make between the two is that free are single player games and Free to Play tend to be multiplayer only, but not exclusively because some also have sngle player modes

Big huggles to That Wrascally Wabbit. I won't rant right now as it probably is not to my best interest right now. The Oh Furry Floppy-eared One would have to mod my comments.

But..If you are goning to download from "those other sites" with questionable PUPs and other addons..use UNCHECKY. It has saved my butt a few times.

"Have you ever felt, while installing software, that the installer tries to push additional unwanted programs at all cost? Ever missed a checkbox, and spent hours afterwards removing adware? Ever opened your browser after an installation, only to find out that you have a new homepage, a new search engine, or even a new browser? Unchecky aims to keep potentially unwanted programs out of your computer."
Unchecky - Keeps your checkboxes clear

Hi Delenn, Thank you for your comment. Yes, I've done that in the past, i.e. missed a checkbox and spent hours clearing up the mess. I've stayed so long here because of people like yourself. :)

I added an exception for the site on WOT

.......................Moderator comment.................................

Hi Jonathan, I do think that adding an exception to WOT is a bit extreme. The gamegiveaway team have always throughly checked their games to ensure no malware is attached. What they are doing is not malware. I thought WOT was put in place to warn users that there was potential for malware attacks etc. Even though I disagree with what the team have done today I can see why. The more people that become aware of this project, the more will download. This should attract more potential donators to this project; however, I do think they should give the community the choice to post on Facebook and the choice to join various groups etc. Unfortunately I have no say in the matter, so can only suggest. So far I've never seen any of my suggestions carried through. :(

I don't do Facebook or Steam and never will. Also don't want "free giveaway" software that I HAVE TO WIN!!!!! This is driving me away from the site I've used for several years. Too bad. GGOTD is committing suicide right in front of us with these restrictive, hoop-jumping requirements. The end of a good thing I guess. Greed has taken over.

Just so things are crystal clear. When the last change was brought about, I was still willing to go through it (mainly because I happen to have a email address I could throw away at a random site if need be). But if you guys are going to start doing more of this, where we are going to have to join random groups and share/like random things on social media (and who knows what else next). Then I too will have to give up and leave.

You know you've gone to far when one of the people that didn't freak-out as bad at your last changes, now has to think about leaving too because your requirements to get free games have gone too far.

As some have said, maybe it would be better if you just don't offer a giveaway for that week, if in order to get a giveaway you have to force visitors to join groups and become unwilling marketers on social media.

Yeah, so the thingee says "3 ways to enter" and lists unlimited licenses. But that is incorrect. There is ONE way to enter, and that is to do ALL THREE THINGS! That's ridiculous. I am willing to do one thing, but not all three, especially not going to post this silly site to facebook! This format STINKS!! Gonna unsubscribe from the GGOTD email notifications. :-(

I don't know if anybody else said this, because, I too, don't have the time right now to sift through 120 comments. But, the thing is, Game Giveaway of the Day was (hopefully still is) a source for games. Just like it's counterpart, the original Giveaway of the Day is a source for software. The last 2 days, GGOTD has been a source for contests. Everybody that wants the game cannot be sure to get the game. Therefore, it now gets lumped in with a lot of contest sites, and it really can't compete with all the game sites that let you have games on one condition: you install their outer shell that opens up their site each time you play the game, so they can show you ads. That didn't compete well with the old GGOTD, but is superior to this model, because at least your sure to get the game you set your sites on, if you jump through that one hoop. So, why would people keep coming here to pine over games they may not get, when they can go other places and get many games they want? I entered today, but how often I will come here to enter contests, especially when I haven't won 1 yet, is difficult to say. But not forever. Of that you can be sure. Thanks, anyway.

Like any good business, you have to understand how your business model stacks up against your competitors.

Hi Watcher, today's isn't the same as yesterdays as there are unlimted games to download, which means everyone who completes the three tasks will gat agame. unfortunately two of those tasks means you having to install the Steam client and creating a Steam account, which i'm sure many will not do. I personally have no problems with Steam; in fact over the last 7 yeas have come to like the whole concept of Steam and everything that comes with it.

That said, I do think you are right about the game giveaway site not being number one for free games if they continue to insist on these stupid tasks to get the game. I hope they can see this from the comments made today and probably the number of downloads and activations that will have occured. We are over half way through the giveaway and there has been less than 250 activations of this game. that is the lowest I have ever seen since I was given access to the admin panel in 2008. Usually by this time the majority of dwnloads have occured (in the region of 4000 to 10 000 depending on the game. I would have expected this game to be nearer the 10 000 mark, so hopefully the owners of this site will see the mistake they are making.

Something else that bothers me about this that I didn't quite put my finger on until just now. Sharing something on facebook is supposed to be an indicator that you like it. Being bullied into sharing something on facebook as a "ransom" to get a company to release a link to a game I don't even know if I'll like is simply wrong no matter how you look at it. It's "tricking" me into telling my friends that I like and recommend something solely as a means to gain something I (might) want and I will always refuse to do that.

ok tried again and this time even installed steam to the computer. after installation of steam and joining steam I go back to GGOTD site and click the continue button. a small screen pops up saying:

The page at https:/www.giveawayoftheday.com says:
ERROR: You didn't join to Steam Group

what is not connecting here?

SCAM SCAM SCAM! This page is worded incorrectly and it's a scam. It says "3 Ways to Enter" which means that you need to do ONE of the tasks to enter. Once you do that, you read the comments below and find out that you actually need to do all 3. The "3 Ways to Enter" is just flat out WRONG and this is a scam. Once you've done step 1, they've already got your e-mail address to sell it to spammers. That's right, this is not a give away at all, it's called a SCAM. I've been visiting this site for a while now but this is it for me. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "3 ways to enter" AND "complete all 3 steps to enter"! You wasted my time. I waited for an email link to download the game. I was SCAMMED out of that link. SCAM SCAM SCAM!

Dear GOTD Team,

I'd rather have NO game than be forced to pay for them with my privacy.
This game is NOT free.

Alawar, as you've mentioned, makes some decent games. I own many of them (purchased, not given away free) - but now I see behind the curtain & I don't like what I see. I will be boycotting Alawar, as well as any other developers who institute this method of distribution *cough* data mining. I'm not punishing you, GOTD, as much as I am them & their corporate greed. However, your compliance makes you guilty by association.

A huge debt of gratitude to White Rabbit. I'm a first time poster, but long time follower & downloader of games here. Years..... You, Stephen, are what made this site great. I rarely take advantage of the games offered (mostly because I already own them) but I read your reviews every week, even if I've played it. You've turned me on to lots of games I've never heard of & I appreciate your passion for gaming. Thank you for all of your work, insight, and honest reviews. I would have left sooner (as soon as these changes were implemented) were it not for you. Consider me on your boat. Whether GOTD sinks it or sails it is the immediate question.

.......................Moderator Comment...............................

Hi Jen, it's not Alawar that is demading this new way of getting your games, it's the game giveaway team. Please don't bash a company who have been giving us free games since the start of this project. They are the only developer/distributor that has been with us since the start of the game giveaway project and have given us hundreds of games over that time. I too have purchased many games from Alawar, at least until they changed thir activation policy. not purchased any for over a year now, but only becasue none have appealed. Actually I have, but not directly from Alawar, but alawar games purchased via Steam. I used to post a lot of comments over on Alawars site before I became involved here. As a thank you, one Christmas they sent me a box of gifts that included a calenar, a large mug with Magic Ball 3 pictured on the side, a courier back and a kitchen wall clock. The next year they gave me a permanent discount code worth 50% off all games, partly as a thank you for my reviews, but also becasue i also beta tested for them. I still think alawar are one of the best arcade developers around together with Playrix.

"Unfortunately, some of the developers we've been working with for a long time, like Alawar Entertainment, can provide us with free games, only using more complex distribution methods." - GOTD Team

Then this statement is extremely misleading. I had some sympathy for the GOTD Team before you replied, WH, thinking they were being bullied into this by big developers. Thanks for clearing that LIE up.

Sorry, Alawar! I would have PURCHASED a game from you yesterday at Big Fish, but because of GOTD's statement above, I did not. Definite loss of revenue due to this blatant finger pointing in your direction. It's unfortunate that the GOTD Team chose those words & reflected Alawar in a negative light. I wouldn't be surprised if Alawar cut ties. Much like a lot of the customer base here....

Fool me once, shame on you GOTD. Not going to get to the second half of that cliché.

Thanks, Stephen, for making this choice crystal clear! I'll continue to enjoy my Playrix & Alawar games elsewhere. :)

..........................Moderator Comment................................
Dear Jen, please don't be too hasty. If anything I think everyone is upset at what I'd call major changes to the way the Game giveaway is being run at the moment, all the giveaway team have been trying to do is exand the community base. The more community members there are, the more chance we have of getting more and better games. That's why they added the Facebook step. Those that do log into Facebook will be passing on details of the game giveaway, who in turn may pass on to their friends. This is potentially a great way of spreading the game giveaway word. Despite the game giveaway exisiting for almost a decade, many of the friends I have on my Steam list have still not heard of the game giveaway project. I often talk about it when I go shopping and I don't think one person I've ever spoken to has said they knew of the site. As you probably know by now (I've posted info about it several times in my reviews), email or Facebook logins, aren't needed anymore though you can still login to your Facebook account if you wish and spread the word to your friends.
As for the new additions this weekend gone, the giveaway team did say they would be removing the need for those extra steps; so in reality, the only thing that will have really changed from the old gamegiveaway is the look.
They have added a new way to get games, but those are extra to the usual game giveaways and are limited because the developers are only giving a specific number of activation codes. Thats why they have added the various tasks so that only those really interested in getting a key will bother to apply. If those steps wern't added most community members would probably click on the buttons to get a key, even though they really wern't bothered. Those games are also different to the usual game giveaways because they will be permanantly tied to you which means you can install and reinstall them at any time on any computer, the only catch is that you will require a Steam account becasue so far every game has been in the form of a Steam key.
I'm sure there are some misunderstandings with respect to what the giveaway team said. I have no real proof that Alawar or other developers have insisted that the extra steps be added. I've made a statement that I cannot back up. that said, I'm sure I was right. Please accept my apology if i've mislead you.
Regards
Stephen:)

Hi, I want to thank you for the game today despite the tasks required to receive it. It looks like an awesome game and we receive so many great games and software here for free that to me it is a small price to pay. I already FB and I am a long standing member of Steam so it only took me a few minutes. I am not to keen on all the hoops but I understand change. It looks as though this has made your job appear to be thankless and that is truly a shame because you do a wonderful job as Moderator on this site. Although begrudgingly, I didn't mind trading my email address for a game that I may, or may not, enjoy (now or later).
Today's offer (I mean 'requirements') has made paying for the game justifiable for me. I'd much rather pay the money for a game that I'm pretty sure I'd like than go through all this for a game I may, or may not, enjoy.
I'll keep visiting the site for a month or two to see if the site's name should be permanently changed to 'Challenges of the Weekend' - and to see if Whiterabbit-uk sticks around.
If he goes, I'll know this site has hit rock bottom! Alienating your most loyal reviewer is never a good business practice (especially in situations like this) as they too have developed loyal supporters.

......................Moderator Comment...........................

Thank you sirPaul. I just wish i had it in me to create a site where I could post game reviews. i just don't have the energy to do so. a friend who had worked in the industry did offer to build a site up some years ago and maintain it, but due to family responsibilities at the time it never materialized. Some other community members started a site a few years ago, but that didn't suceed either.

I think it would take great dedication for a site to be developed on the lines of the old gamegiveaway. Personally I'd love to see such a site, but i'm afraid no one has the time these days to help in such a venture.

This is insulting. First of all, you don't need to know anything about my steam account. Second of all, I don't have a facebook account. You say you had to choose between no giveaway for the weekend or this? I say you had to choose between alienating your community or not and you chose the former. I think most of the community would have preferred to have no giveaway for the weekend than to be insulted like this.

Lee,
I agree. There've been lots of weekends with no giveaway and it was never a problem. I didn't even think about it. I was just pleased when one showed up.

But now, I don't even want to open the emails most of the time, because there's a big chance I'll just end up irritated and angry. So not worth it. I'd much rather have a game every now and then instead of demands on my privacy every other weekend.

Yeah I was hoping that we only had to do one of the three tasks. It sounds like you have to do all three, so forget it.

I was willing to visit your greenlight page. I'd rather not have to do that either, but it isn't the worst burden your making people go through. (Thankfully they aren't requiring people to vote for the greenlight item.)

Sorry, I don't want to join your steam group in order to get the game. It's not that I don't have a steam account, but generally I don't join steam groups willy-nilly, (I'm currently only in two, I believe.) and I'm not starting now for your game.

And I'm not willing to share the page over Facebook, either. First, it's not going to do you guys much good. I've got one "friend" on Facebook, my brother; and trust me he ain't interested. And anyway, the only reason I even have a Facebook account in the first place is because a few tablet games I play require a Facebook account in order to save your progress. Otherwise, I wouldn't have even gotten a Facebook account. And so I'm trying to do as little with the FB account as I can. I'm using it only for a few tablet games that give you no other way to save progress and that is it. (Not going to start using it for more things now.)

Alawar: This was a total exercise in frustration, and although I usually post these giveaways to a casual gaming group I am on (even games I don't intend to play myself), I will *NOT* be going it with this one.

Thank for Whiterabbit for everything you have done - posting review/moderating the comment section etc, but it seems like this site is running on life support.

I guess I understand why the developers want us to go through hops to grab a download link - trying to advertising more (hoping we see their fb posts, twitter posts, read the email newsletter etc hoping to buy games), but still for us the end user it just makes it frustrating and for most wouldn't even bother going through the hops to grab the download link.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for all of your dedication and assistance over the years. I deeply appreciate it as I know so many others do, too.

But, I think this last stunt that they are pulling will be the nail in the coffin for me.

I used to get up on Saturdays and Sundays and the FIRST thing I did (even before coffee, if you can believe that!) would be to check to see what the new game was for the day. Since they change the format, it has been a disappointment every weekend. And now, this crazy bunch of requirements is over the top for me. I am too old and too busy to deal with it.

I don't want to have a bunch of social media accounts, and I don't want to jump through hoops for something like a free game. It is just not worth it to me.

It is too bad because I have happily purchased subsequent games in a series after getting one for free from this site and loving it so much that I had to have the next versions (like some of the time management games, and some of the match 3 games). Now, I won't be exposed to the first game so I won't ever buy the subsequent games in the series.

I will seek out some of the other free game sites that don't employ such marketing techniques.

They have driven many of us away. Maybe they don't care and they are just laughing their juvenile a$$e$ off as they read this. Good for them. I hope they find a way to prosper... but this isn't it.

It always amazes me how someone can take something that is working and then drive it right into the ground trying to improve it. It also always amazes me how something like this comes to be... I mean, did everyone sit around in a conference room and one person raised their hand to speak and then said, "Hey, let's do this... let's take something that is REALLY working and drive it right into the ground and destroy it. Let's take this FREE site and make everyone do the most hated, unthinkable things... let's make them share this stuff on Facebook, post it to Twitter, get a Steam account, spend untold amounts of time trying to get a download link, then finally give them a link after all of that... or not. Then, let's laugh our a$$e$ off at what extremes people will go to to get a stupid $5 game.

My time and privacy is worth more than all of this.

So, with this, I finally throw in the towel and bid farewell.

Thank you again Stephen. I appreciate all you have done for us. It is probably time for you to move on now too, and go somewhere where your efforts and time are appreciated and valued by the owners of the site.

All my best to you Stephen,

Deb

Thank you for your comment Deb. It took me a while to get to it due to the overwhealming number of posts today. I to used to get up and the firs tthing I did was go to the giveaway and game giveaway pages before breakfast. It was the highlight of the day just to see what game and application was being given away. When the project first started there was no other site that was doing this, at least no site with no advertising and no toolbars etc. The community that grew up around the site was great, the forum was a good place to hang out and I made some good friends here. As mentioned in one of my posts. i don't know whether i'll be doing this much longer. we shall have to see how things pan out.

Nope, not doing all three of those things just to get one free game. I absolutely will not join Steam, and if that's how this site is going to operate from now on, then it's bye, bye for me. I'll check again next week, in hopes that the Giveaway team has come to their senses about forcing people to do things they don't want or are unable to do, but if it's the same, then I'm out of here for good, as there are other sites I can go to for games that don't have these crazy requirements. I appreciate everything the wonderful White Rabbit has done for this site, and totally understand if he decides to stop providing his great reviews and hop away from this site, along with many of us who have come here for years, who will not jump through unreasonable hoops just to download a game.
