Why is it that whenever they have good games or software that I can't get the site to load or it says there is a missing node? Like last night!

For whatever reason this game freezes my computer to a bluescreen. I enjoy the game thouroughly when it is playing, however!

Anyone else have their threats pop up on this game? I had installed and played for a bit, shut it down and went on to do my normal things. I set my alarms going off and im told that Keystrokes are being logged by Magictea.WRP and was triggered by c:\program files\Alawar\MagicTea\MagicTea.exe.. I removed the program and doing a complete scan of the system but find it odd to have this

Very fun, better then I thought it would be. Though it did crash when I set the screen resolution up to 1900x1200, when I started it up it worked fine and looks beautiful!

Works fine on my Vista Ultimate.

Thanks for offering this game again, I was one that missed it the first time it was listed. At that time I hadn't played Dragon and so I didn't think I would like this genre, but I found I liked it very much. Many people mentioned how much they liked Magic Tea and that they were still playing it, so I was really happy to see it offered again. It is actually harder than Dragon(which you can just fire like crazy and beat the level)but it is just as fun, if not more so. I like that you can change viewpoint to play. I too experienced it closing off the screen when I exited options, but it was still on my task bar so I just clicked and waited for a moment and it came up again.

#19 Linda, are you online when you try to activate your key? You need to be online for your game to be registered. Just an idea as to what your trouble could be. Be sure and read the text file that is with the key and the setup file and do what it says.
#26 Sharon, It is a gold key icon, it should be with your setup file, just click on the gold key icon and wait until the GGAOTD page loads and tells you it is activated, then proceed with your setup. Hope this helps.
Thanks again for rerunning this game, I've learned you can't always tell by the screen shots or other's comments if a game will be appealing to you. Sometimes you just have to try it for yourself to see if you like it.

Friends:
Yes, we all get sick of the same types of games over and over again, the paddleball type, the 3-in-a-row, the Snowy-type platforms, role-playing, and the shoot-em-ups. But puzzle-wise, what other types of games are there?
I'm so glad I asked that because I couldn't think of any, but now I can. How about some WORD games? MATH games? When is the last time gGOTD offered up one of those? Mathmetiles was a fun, challenging game. I never tire of the text-twister type games.
Get out of bed with ALAWAR and maybe you can offer your visitors something worth downloading.
Your approval ratings have plummeted for both sites. Better change things up or you won't see my bright, smiling face around here anymore.

Why does everyone say this is a Zuma clone? It's a PUZZLOOP clone. Zuma was a clone of Puzzloop.

I'm just sayin'. I hate it when popcap is credited as having come up with a fantastic game concept.

I have a question.
I've played this game since it was first given away earlier this year. I am totally addicted to it. I have a separate removable hd for my computer. If I download and activate the game again on that hd, will it be available for me to have should my main hd ever need to be wiped? Please be kind. ;) I'm sure many will consider this a stupid question.

Once again, an enjoyable way to kill some time. The 3D twist on Zuma/Luxor is nice, but there's very little variety beyond what those games offer. I would, once again, never BUY this game, but as a freebie, it's fun.

Oh, and the music and sound design is atrocious. The popping noise of the balls left my ears ringing. Alawar and its developers really need to develop higher standards for their music and sound.

I just downloaded this game, with no problems, and played it enough to know that I like it very much. I have Zuma Deluxe, and this is a lot like it, which is why I chose to download it, Zuma is a great game! This is a great website, I've been very happy with the games I've gotten from here so far. I really don't understand how some times so many people complain about the games that they're getting for FREE...if you don't like it, just pass on it. Thanks again alawar and ggotd!

Hi qb7894

Basically you have to destroy all the balls travelling from the entry point to the exit point before the trail of balls snakes its way through the marked paths. You get rid of them by shooting different colored balls at the moving line of balls. The aim is to hit groups of 2 or more to destroy them. You will gain bonus points by setting off chain reactions for example if younget say a red ball and see a group of 2 or more reds which have another color say blue that amount to three or more oon either side of the red clor. when the red group is destroyed. The blues when touching will also be destroyed. you get bonus points for such 'combo's (combinations). You can set up these combinations yourself by carefully placing balls in the correct places. Many of these games also have power ups to help you on your way. Once you start playing the game you will understand what is needed. Good luck and have an excellent game. If you like the concept I suggest you try one of the following games. Luxor 3 and Atlantis sky Patrol would be the ones to buy if you wanted to exprience the best game play in this genre, although Luxor 2 and Sparkle are worthy runners up. In my opinion Dragon, which was given away some time ago and the Zuma games are nowhere near as enjoyable to play. If I had only those two and Magic tea to choose from, Magic Tea would win easily for its gameplay.

Try the following similar games:

I’ve scored then from 1 to 5 * depending upon how playable I found them. This included things like mini games and power up management as well as graphics.

This game seems to have no complaints about running under Vista (at least not MY Vista Ultimate). It installed and activated quite nicely.

There was one odd glitch that I cannot explain but should not happen again. After giving my name (creating a profile) for a new game, I always check the options. I always turn off the background music and a show-stopper for me is not having the option. For this game, I changed two options - Full Screen and Music. That was all I did - remove two check marks. I exited the options menu to try to learn the game and it just disappeared! No error message, just gone!

After a stunned moment to realize it wasn't coming back, I restarted it. It did save my options. As long as I don't need to change the options again, it should not recur.

I have only played one level of "Classic" mode but it is a lot like Dragon offered here a few months ago. I'm not real good at these games but I do enjoy them.

You don't have to be good at a game to get enjoyment from it. Sometimes it's just fun to watch the cat eat the marbles!

You gents should come up with a deal where you could purchase offered games at a discount through Paypal. Then you could negotiate with some of the heavy hitters in gameware. If I liked a game that cost $35 I'd gladly pay half price to get it. Heck you guys could even work a percentage in for your troubles and site maint.

This received 83% positive votes from a total of 199 back in early May this year.

This is an edited version of my posts from then:

I’ve only just finished playing the demo of this and was most impressed with it. Although there are a lot of Luxor clones around these days, this one has it all. There are three different styles of game play, Classic, Arcade and Action. Power ups to help or hinder you with the progress (although there are lots more positives than negatives) and great graphics as well. I’d recommend this especially to Luxor enthusiasts. The ball tracks weave their way around inanimate objects that cause your ball to bounce and even disappear under its own track where there are intersections. All of which add up to a great game. You can also use the sides of the playing arena and the objects to bounce the colored balls if you wish. :)

The option menu gives you the ability to change the screen resolution and create a windowed or full screen game. For slower computers, you can turn off special effects to help the game run better, then there’s the usual music and sound sliders, together with an on/off toggle for both. I love the sound effects, but not sure about the music. It’s fresh and reminiscent of an old time arcade, or silent film, so I don’t mind it; but it could get a little annoying after a while.

I give this game 7 out of 10 for breadth of game play and re-playability

There was several comments damming the game because of it being a clone of other games such as the Luxor series and Zuma, which I then posted:

In reply to one specific comment I replied: “you’re very unlikely to get anything original here or any where else because ‘virtually’ all games are a clone of at least one or more of the early commodore/Atari classics. Totally original idea’s are few and far apart”. Gumboy Crazy Adventures, Gish and the recently released Peggle spring to mind with respect to originality, (although someone pointed out, without giving any examples, that it was copied from an old arcade style game. I have since found something similar in Moleculous, but that’s the operative word, similar), however I doubt they would appear here because the first two have a limited distribution base and are award winning arcade games and; (however, I was wrong about Roboball, which I purchased as soon as it was released in February and was given away last week) All three are marvellous games, which I’ve already purchased. Gish has several free add-on levels and adventures as well as an editor, with a small fan site hosted on the developers site Chronic Logic. Just Google the other two if your interested. You get a Gumboy features game that isn’t time limited with the Gumboy Adventures demo, which basically gives you an overview of all that’s available in the game. One complete level.

You can read all 70 of the comments from the previous giveaway by following the link below:

It seemed several community members had problems with mouse controls with this game. I posted another post in answer to this and have expanded on it today in the hope that if the problem persists, you will have several options to try and sort it out. I only go to this effort because I think the game is worth it:

For those who are having problems with poor mouse performance, try turning down the screen resolution and turning off the special visual effects, which can be found in the options menu together with the usual options. It’s not guaranteed to help, but it will take some work off the graphic card and CPU and may just be enough to enable your mouse to work properly. There is a large selection of screen resolutions to choose from the lowly 640 x 480 to 1680 x 1050. You may ask why are the lower ones required. Well for those with sight problems setting a lower resolution will increase the games apparent size on the screen. The periphery of the game boards are not actually required, so with some experimentation you could increase the visual size of the playing area to use all of the screens usable area.

There are other things you can do to improve you computers performance (without having to buy a new cpu or other hardware).

Although there are some excellent clones of this particular style of game such as those mentioned above as well as others such as Sparkle, if you don’t have any of then, this is a worthy version to have. There are enough differences (it would seem to me anyway) for this to be part of your games library even if you do have others like it. I would certainly recommend the latest luxor release Luxor 3, which has a variety of mini games within the main game as well as a shop to buy upgrades from the collected Egyptian style tokens that fall whenever you have accomplished something.

Check out the following Googled images of the game to get a better idea of what you are downloading:

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=Magic+Tea&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

Unfortunately Alawar don’t sell this version yet, otherwise I would have posted the link to their catalogue, there’s no online version of this game yet.

http://www.mumbojumbo.com/game/game/82

I have to give this the best possible marks I can without going over the buy me mark (8), but that’s only because I’ve spent far too much on games over the past few years. So I give this a 7.5 out of 10.

Thank you Alawar and the Game Giveaway team for another great repeat. It’s much appreciated. :D

Helpful Hints:

1)

Improving the performance of your computer:
If you have 512Mb or more of RAM memory, you can increase system performance
by having the core system kept in memory.
1. Start Regedit
2. Go to the following Hive location………..HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\DisablePagingExecutive
3. Set the value to 1
4. Close the Registry editor
5. You will need to reboot the computer before the change takes place though

Or download the following registry file and just click on the file and follow the prompts. Be sure to create a restore point by going into the tools which are found in the Start/accessories menu usually:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/reg/disable_paging_exec.reg

2)
Defragment you drive by using windows own tool the disc defragmenter, which can be found via the start menu in the systems tools folder under accessories (usually) or get a proprietary defragmenter such as diskeeper, which I swear by as it keeps my computer virtually 100% defragmented.

3)
Disabling windows services that are not required when playing games:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/windowsxp_tips.htm#services_disable

For many other windows based queries check out the computer guys web site, (which I discovered yesterday while looking for a particular problem to solve, it has a wealth of information and gives links to downloadable registry files for most of the changes you can make to your registry. As always though, create a restore point before making any changes to your registry.
