In Brief:

The Game:
The basics of the game are, you pick up various loads to deliver around the Taiga, enter competitions and rescue people to earn XP and cash. Which can then be used to unlock various upgrades for your truck. Because of the adverse weather you have to complete certain tasks to survive in the harsh environments. Cold, thirst and hunger are your worst enemies.

The game includes a 26 page manual explaining what you need to do to survive. I've taken screen captures of each page of the manual, which I've posted as a separate comment attached to this comment. If you read those it will give you a good idea as to the various components of this game.

There are three bar indicators in the bottom left of the screen the top one (Red) indicates your hunger, the bottom one (Blue) how cold you are and the the middle one (Green) is your strength, which can be partially recovered by pitching your tent and sleeping. This is accomplished by opening up the inventory by pressing the Right mouse button. Then scrolling to the tent symbol. Doing this will pitch your tent. To enter move to the front of the tent where you'll see a ZZZ indicator in yellow Walk to this and press the left mouse button. This will an indeterminate amount of sleep. You can see time pass outside the tent while you are asleep. This does not restore your strength completely, plus sleep length and hunger are not controlled. To warm your self up you first need to collect wood (the manual suggests finding wood near trees, which guarantees a better supply) to pick up wood, stand near it and a hand should appear, press the enter key to pick up; you can pick up a maximum of five piles of wood. Access the inventory then scroll to the camp fire symbol. If you have no wood, this will be red in colour and cannot be lit, but you can still place the camp fire stones. Other inventory symbols include the phone, which gives you access to your route, the time and temperature as well as important points on the map, which are indicated with different coloured dots, i.e.

Green = Garage
Yellow = Place to take order
Red = Gas/Petrol Station
Sky Blue = Competition ''Climb Way''
Royal Blue = Rescue Mission
Violet = Hotel

If you are on an exploratory walk about it will also show you where your truck is. So long as you have your phone selected and are on foot, a wheel symbol will appear in the direction of the truck as well as a red triangle on the phones map. Other symbols on the inventory bar include a petrol/gas can, which tells you how much spare fuel in litres you have. You can fill this to a maximum of 20 litres when visiting a garage or sometimes find spare cans of fuel laying around various bases. To refill your vehicle go to the fuel tank, which will appear yellow when you select the fuel cannister symbol in the inventory and are are opposite it, then press the left mouse button to refill the tank. You can see how much fuel you have left in your vehicle via the fuel indicator inside your cab. A torch symbol which is useful for finding wood and food at night, plus canned food, which help to keep hunger at bay. You can carry up to 10 cans of food. To restock, visit a warehouse or hotel. To use food, select the can symbol then select which food you want. This will then bring up a burner with a pan symbol. Place this in a suitable position then press the left mouse button to warm up. When the pan turns green, your food is ready; to eat press LMB again.. To exit the inventory without accessing any of the main symbols select the middle one that looks like a triangle.

There are various tasks that can be carried out to gain experience and cash, both of which are required to improve your vehicle and the former to increase your experience level, which in turn makes it easier to complete some tasks more effectively;

for example, when entering a competition i.e. the Climb Way, You have to climb the track for a specific amount of time to reach the finish. . Completing the climb way competitions will gain experience points which unlock better parts to upgrade your vehicle, which in turn will increase your performance in these competitions. There are also rescue operations that give you rewards. Take on delivery jobs. So long as you deliver the items undamaged you will be paid cash to help towards improving your truck as well as to purchase other items such as food. You can stock up on provisions either via the hotel (food) and the petrol/gas station (fuel). When you pick up a cargo delivery it will give you a map of the route, the distance to the delivery point, the time it should take and the amount of reward in dollars and XP. You can choose to accept, or close the offer via the green and red buttons.

To upgrade your vehicle approach the green symbol that looks like a pair of crossed wrenches above a green circle in the tarmac that is opposite the yellow doors of the garage

Inside the garage you can upgrade your vehicle in several ways; for example improve the engine, gears, front and rear fenders of the vehicle, the boot/trunk and the paint work. Each of these has several upgrades, each one an improvement on the previous, but to be able to use better upgrades for each of the categories you require more cash and be a specific level before you can use the upgrade. For example with respect to the engine, there are eight upgrades, each of which improves the horse power of the engine. With respect to the gears, the higher the level, the better your gears for example at level eight you can upgrade your gears with ten gears including two reverse gears called a type 154; at level ten you can upgrade to a type ZF-16 with 16 gears. There are twenty paint jobs that become patterned after you attain level 4, such as Winter Forest (looks similar to a displaced pattern army uniform) and Leopard. To exit the garage press the World button or to return to the main menu press the menu button.

Conclusion:
Overall a decent enough survival/truck delivery game; especially for free and even for it's $5 asking price over on Itch.io.

There are a few negatives such as the time it takes for the initial Falcoware splash screen to disappear, which takes almost a minute to complete, also, when moving from the garage back to your truck, it can take several seconds with a black screen, same for exiting other places.

Also, picking up wood so that you can create a fire can be a bit fiddly; you should see a hand appear before you are standing over any wood pile. As soon as a hand appears, press the left mouse button to pick it up. Also, the headlights on the vehicle are really dim, so it's really easy to lose sight the road, or turn offs at night due to it being partially or completely covered in snow; so, I advise avoiding night trips unless you get a night based contract.

I accidentally wandered off the road while trying to get to a place to pick up an order; next thing I found my truck almost toppling over in a depression in the ground and was not able to extricate myself from the place, so I thought I had to restart a new game, which loses all your progress. This may have been because I had the least powered engine with the poorest gears. I'm sure with upgrades the vehicle will perform better, but with the basic vehicle it felt really slow travelling from A to B. I would avoid travelling at night unless it was absolutely necessary. That said, if you get stuck, then leave the game (I used Alt + F4, when you click on the continue button, you'll find yourself near the garage.

The game could do with a decent tutorial at the beginning of the game. There is one of sorts, but it doesn't explain how to survive very well; for example, If you are out of your truck for more than a few moments, you'll notice the edges of your vision look misted up (depending on the outside temperature, this may happen very quickly). This indicates you are freezing (the lower bar indicator also gives an indication of how cold you are' when entering the truck cab or lighting a fire, you'll notice this reduces to zero slowly. If you don't return to your truck, enter a garage or hotel or light a fire quickly, you'll freeze to death and that's the end of the game.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:
For other free games, please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies; it's kept up to date frequently, whenever a free game becomes available, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Also, for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies. Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links at the top of this comment as well.
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:

1) ... The Last Enchantress: Revival, (choice-based fantasy game, contains adult themes and not suitable for children)

2) ... Copperbell (Returning freebie - hand drawn adventure game)

3) ... Avani: The Primal Land (Explore, gather, learn, craft and build in the world of Avani: The Primal Land. Fight, hunt and tame wild animals. Animals have their own genetics and no animal is like the other. The interactive taming process allows making a real bond with each tame. Avani offers a unique crafting system combined with a huge skill tree and an intuitive building system mixed with traditional survival game elements)

4) ... Cov Shooter (Try to survive as many waves as possible, upgrade your stats and weapons to do that)

5) ... WTC : Relentless Protagonist [Sxs}, (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

6) ... Out of Puberty: Chapter 1 (graphic novel, contains adult themes and not suitable for children)

7) ... Neon Invasion Earth, (space invaders)

8) ... WTC : Recruitment Day (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

9) ... Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings ( jigsaw puzzle)

10) ... Welcome To... Chichester OVN 3 : The Mysterious Affair At The Violet Hotel (Interactive novel)

11) ... Hamsterdam (NEW - classic brawler mechanics meet rhythm and precision)

We have been given over 340 games since I started to check the freebie section several years ago. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places), Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil. If you claimed those while they were still available you can access them via your Indie Gala account under the showcase section. Each page from your free list can take 30 or so seconds to move to the next page; so, if like me you've added most of the free games over the last several years, it can take almost half an hour to get to the last page. I have just over 340 games in my free section. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (113 games are still available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period (e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam); so, you should grab them as soon as you can. All titles are DRM free.

The latest Epic Game is Cris Tales - (an indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective).

If you missed last weeks freebie 'Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons' it is also included in the latest Humble Choice bundle as a Steam key - see below for the Humble Choice details). From Thursday the 1st March at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. You can find Fanatical games (that used to be called Bundle Stars) HERE.

I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis. I won't be posting them daily this time; only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted e.g.

Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe (a squad based solo shooter). Battlegroup 44 (a free-standing mod for Battlefield 2 that is a follow up to the original Battlefield 1942). Slam Tilt (an excellent pinball game with four tables). 3-D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night, (one of my all-time favourite pinball games from the mid 90's). Breakquest (one of my all-time top ten 2D breakouts). Messy Paths (an android game). Castlevania The Lecarde Chronicles (fan made free standing Castelvania game). Conflict Vietnam (third person squad-based shooter). Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2006 Trophy Season (a linear hunting game). Just added Open TTD (Transport Tycoon Deluxe). I'll be adding more over the coming months.

Black And White Apocalypse that was given away some weeks ago by the developer Hammergames is always free and can also be downloaded as a colour version. The community member Space pointed this out at the time. You can find both versions over on itch.io via the following links Black & White version, and Coloured version. :)

You can also find 'all nine' of the developers' games (for free) HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

The next Humble Choice bundle goes live tomorrow, so this is your last chance to grab the latest bundle; it includes eight games plus one DLC pack; i.e. Borderlands 3 with the director's cut DLC included, Black Book, Per Aspera, Just Die Already, Before We leave, Paradise Lost, Everhood and Calico. For original Humble Bundle subscribers, the cost is $12/£8.99 with other benefits such as access to a lot of indie titles for free while subscribed and a percentage off other purchases from the Humble store. This increases the longer you keep subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. (1 month sub' gives 10% off, 3 months sub' gives 15% off and six months sub 'gives 17% off). The next Humble Choice bundle goes live Tuesday 1st March 22.

The latest Humble Bundles include Overwhelmingly Positive Gems (all games get a 95% or more positive rating and include seven games i.e. Shadow Man Remastered, Clone Drone in the Danger Zone, Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, Kathy Rain: Director's Cut, HUNTDOWN, There Is No Game : Wrong Dimension & Finding Paradise. There's also a VR bundle called VR Discovery Bundle ( that includes Synth Riders, Blaston, Cook-Out, Panoptic, Trover Saves the Universe, Red Matter and Tower Tag + Soundtrack). Both bundles end on the 11th March 22. There's also Sid Meier's Ultimate Collection that includes Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI: Gathering Storm
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI: Rise and Fall
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI - Vikings Scenario Pack
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI - Poland Civilization & Scenario Pack
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - Persia and Macedon Civilization & Scenario Pack
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI - Nubia Civilization & Scenario Pack
DLC, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - Khmer & Indonesia Double Civilization & Scenario Pack
DLC, Coupon for $15 New Frontier Pass, Sid Meier’s Civilization®: Beyond Earth™ - The Collection, Sid Meier’s Civilization V: The Complete Edition, Sid Meier's Pirates!, Sid Meier's Civilization® IV: The Complete Edition, Sid Meier's Civilization® III: Complete, Sid Meier's Starships, Sid Meier's Railroads!, Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies, Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol, Sid Meier's Colonization (Classic), Sid Meier's Covert Action (Classic) that ends on the 9th March 22.

If you are a removed game collector Gods Remastered a classic platformer from the early 90's is being removed from Steam on the 27th March. You can swap between the original and the remastered version. You'll find the Steam page HERE

If you have Amazon Prime, the free February games are now available. You can get Stellaris on GOG for free. Visit Prime Gaming for details.

Stay safe everyone.

A very badly made game! There is no way to skip the initial screen (where the falconware logo appears). Most games allow you to skip through this by pressing enter.

Once the main screen appeared, the game responded very slowly to my clicks. For example, in settings, the drop-down menus open nearly 2 seconds after I click on them. (2 seconds is a long, long time in computers!)

And the last straw is that the game refused to run! Once I clicked on "New Game", a blank screen appeared. I could hear the aeroplane sounds and other audio, but my screen remained blank. And then the game crashed. I tried again -- with the same result. (The only difference was that now the CONTINUE button was active on the main screen, which seems to indicate that the new game had started (even though I couldn't see anything as my screen was blank) and then crashed.

I uninstalled the game (telling it to completely uninstall all the components of the game). I then reinstalled the game. On once again playing the game, I was SHOCKED to find that the CONTINUE button was still active! This indicates that the game was NOT completely uninstalled, THOUGH I HAD TOLD THE UNINSTALLER TO INSTALL ALL COMPONENTS!

Very Sad! It seemed to be a nice game from the videos thast whiterabbit has linked. But it refused to play on my PC. On examining the game creator's website, I would say that this creator has NO IDEA about game creation. His website lists the Game Platform as Windows, but neither does he mention the (minimum) version of Windows nor does he list out he hardware required for the game!

Hardware requirements are very important for games, especially 3D games such as this one! I was trying the game out on a recent PC running fully updated Windows 10. The PC has sufficient HDD space and 3 GB RAM along with an Nvidia Zotec Graphic Card.

Last word:
I had to uninstall the game as it refused to run on my PC.

Sunil Suresh,

Hi Sunil,

I agree with some of your points; especially the Falcoware intro screen that took almost 45 seconds to disappear. There really should be a way to skip it. (I've not looked into the actual installed folder; there may be a way?

That said, the game works okay for me. It has the basic elements of a survival game (food, temperature and fuel ) together with a truck delivery game and a few other tasks.

When I compare the graphic with the Medved-Taiga reserve map, in theHunter: Call of the Wild game (which was given away free via Epic at the end of November 2021 last year), it's pretty basic as the Call of the Wild map is beautifully rendered and really looks like you are in the Taiga region. However, for a $5 game, this is actually quite decent if you get it to work okay (The taiga reserve map only costs a few dollars more than this game on Steam, but you need the base game as well).

Sadly I didn't get enough time to write up a decent review for this game until 4am, several hours before the giveaway ended, despite it running for two days. I'd been extremely busy the last few days, so haven't had time to play the game apart from the initial start just to see if it was worth keeping; which IMO it is.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Yes, it's possible that my PC's specs are not good enough for this game. The developers really *should* put up proper system requirements for their games.

The file installs with no errors but does not work. It just clicks along with bad resolution and no way to change anything nor even abort the program. I tried it both on a Win7 and Win10 system same result.

Jerry,

Hi Jerry, What do you mean by 'it just clicks along?

From your reference to bad resolution, it may be that the resolution you have your monitor set to is not native to this game. Changing the resolution of your monitor may fix the issue? If you can then access the games settings and change the resolution; (anywhere between 640 x 480 to 1920 x 1080), you may be able to sort the issue out, then return your monitors resolution to your usual setting?

Reply   |   Comment by Whiterabbit-uk  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Whiterabbit-uk, Just clicking means the picture comes on the screen then there is a clicking sound and a full second later the picture moves one space. Repeats this.
My monitor is set at 1600x1200 which is with in your suggested resolutions. I also unloaded and deleted the program. Then since the program is still or again available I downloaded a new copy and installed it. Some results. Also there is no place to interact with the program. I had to use task manager to end the game.

Reply   |   Comment by Jerry  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Jerry,

Hi Jerry, thankyou for your reply.

I'm wondering whether your graphics RAM and/or your sysRAM is sufficient to run the game? What you describe sounds like the frame rate is like 1 frame every few seconds instead of say 60fps, which implies you don't have enough memory, or maybe your CPU isn't fast enough (though it's more likely to be the former). You could try running the free Razer Booster program, which you can get for free HERE.

The application turns off any system programs running in the background that are not necessary for the game or Windows to work when you boot a game; It automatically shuts down all the unnecessary programs. You can also manually set it to turn off other non-system programs that you may have installed and have running in the background. When you close the game down, all the programs shut down are immediately turned back on automatically. This can significantly boost your RAM availability when playing games. I've been using various iterations of Game Booster for over fifteen years.

Failing the above, have you checked the FAQ's thread over in the game Discussion forums; you may find a fix there? You can find the FAQ's thread HERE.

Sorry I can't be of more help. It's after 5am and I need to crash.

If you still fail to get the game to work, I would still consider keeping the executable that you downloaded from the giveaway site to maybe install at a later date i.e. when you upgrade or get a different computer, or if a fix comes up via the community. I'll try to remeber to post a thread in the game discussion forums when i get up later, so that anyone can post a possible fix. Maybe check that out periodically?.

Try Alt + F4 as an alternative to the task manager. That usually closes games down immediately.

Why must I download always in different way from Yours web? Once ist from notification- the best and most comfortably, another from email but there is alaways redirect back to Your Website and in this way many time I lost my giveaway because not always I can go to email immediately and didn't know that I must do it to dowload and registered. It is just as well that You stopped encrypt these files with giveaway programs because in some systems view years later I have had problem with decrypt. By the way, Your website ist very cool of course and for me one of the leading from giveaways site from years.
Best regards.

Peter,

Hello Peter,
Personally I just check the site every day to see if there is a giveaway. I stopped relying on emails years ago. In the UK giveaways always go live at 8am during the winter months, summer it changes to 9am. We tend to get at least three games during the weekdays and both weekend days, so I would suggest you go directly to the site each day to check.
