i liked it. the controls are okay, though it could be improved a lot. a useful help is missing you have to find out by yourself what's the effect of the weapons. there is some kind of story but it's nothing special. the graphic is okay but nothing special too. It's nice to play for an hour or two, when you not have to do something better...

story (2/10)
gameplay (5/10)
graphic (2/10)
sound & music (2/10)
help & options (2/10)

all (13/50)

Hmmmm. The comments on this board leave me shaking my head. Some are so embarressingly inane. A few are good and make sense, but most make me think: why bother trying to communicate with such minds. They think they're right, if you disagree you're wrong, and that's that.

As for me, the game didn't quite work out, but a big thanks to GGAOTD for the offer. I always look forward to checking here to catch one that does.

Another important thought: Hope you're having fun, Whiterabbit!

I not sure why all the complaints concerning "space" games or "shooting" games. I don't know any other type of game that can keep your eyes and hands moving. Arthritis in the hands? Try a game like yesterday's winner. Want good graphics? Again, yesterday's "Astro something 2" was just the ticket.

I don't need no stink'n little girls' games. I want fast and hot action. Need not be a space game or have any shooting. A "good" racing game that does not use the arrow keys to control the action would make (for me) a great download. Hoping to find such a game keeps me coming back to the GGOTW website.

I wasn't able to get this to install on my computer. I run Windows Home Premium. I was able to install it on my husband's laptop easily and it is running the same verison of Windows. Not sure what happened. I tried several times and always the same. It would install and activate; but when you clicked to play and it brings up the black window (similiar to when you run dos) but it never loads the game. It says it's not responding. C:o(

Personally I dont think people have issues with those who dont like the game...I think its those who whine and bellyache that the FREE games offered arent geared towards them. As stated before if its not your thing dont download wait untill the next giveaway day. It's not going to ruin your life to wait another , day, week or even a month...it doesnt cost a thing to check and see if its your type of game. Heck it takes less time to check the game of the day then it does to clear out your spam folder in Email.

To the GGOTD Team THANK YOU for your hard work in tracking down these games for us.

To everyone who post informative, intellegent NON-WHINNING comments THANK YOU. I read the comments often and usually wait to dl a game untill late in the day to see what the comments are like and what the votes are. In todays case my son LOVES space type shootem ups..lol. BUT after reading the comments saying that the shooting controls are hard I chose not to dl it. This saves my special needs son alot of frustration, and me alot of headaches...lol.

Supernova is not worth the effort. Poor controls, poor graphics, etc.
Unfortunately both programs I have tried to activate this week have failed to activate. Astroavenger2 for example when you run setup keep telling em it could not connect to the activate page, despite different downloads and 4 or 5 tries. Eventually I gave up. So a game I would like to try won't activate and a useless game will. There needs to be some way to deal with this if possible. The games are free so I've lost no money but it is very frustrating. I have never had a problem with the separate activate program, only when it's incorporated in setup.

I will pass on this offer (again) - anything real-time is not for me. The two advertised games by Winter Wolves do look interesting to me though, I may give them a try.

Thank you for the game offers, I always look forward to them. I do not very often download any of them though, simply because there are not a lot of types of games that I am interested in.

As a chess player,I'm disappointed at having this described as chess, it's not at all like it. There's no real way to block a ship from flying past another ship. The game board is less than relavent.

Not too shabby a game though, just good for maybe an hour, 60% thumbs up

To All The Critics - I agree that people should be encouraged to criticize the game. However there is an important precursor, “constructive”. When someone says something like "oh this game is boring, how come they can't get this or that is not, threatening to not come back to this web site, are not criticizing they are "Whining”. Constructive criticism would be someone who says something like “the game controls are sluggish”, or “game play is too slow and the graphics are not sharp”. There's a big difference between the two. People don’t listen to whiners, they laugh at them, but they will listen to someone making constructive criticism because that kind of feedback is meaningful.

To that I say to the constructive critics "You are right and you bring up some very good points about the game".

And to the whiners I say "Ha Ha Ha Ha"

To those who complain about those who complain about lack of quality in games -- there is a point. If GOTD keeps tossing up lame offerings it's going to look bad on them. There *are* other sites to get "free" games, but some of us would prefer that GOTD get and offer higher quality items instead of having to hit multiple sites.

Personally, though, 95% of "shareware" games are all the same. Junk, and certainly not worth paying for.

36-I try everything! This game was not fun! The chess part doesn't take that long. Then you go to the fighting part and everyone that commented about the controls, WAS NOT LYING! You can't get your ship turned around fast enough to shoot and the computer's side nails you. Though why not give it a try? It's a fast download and a easy uninstall.

This is actually quite a fun little game. I only played the red team so far, but it seems fun enough. Each space ship has a different way of playing and you need to learn how to use each one effectively. The game really isn't like chess other than that some space ships can move further than others in a turn. Quickplay is kind of silly as it just boils down to everyone trying to attack the mother ships (space ships can't block or protect your mothership like chess pieces can protect your king).

If you found the game too difficult, try changing the difficulty setting and play around with the weapon strength to make battle last longer or shorter.

I won't keep this one on the computer for long - but it was a fun little distraction, and I will play it a few more times. I almost didn't download it because of the comments, but I'm glad I did in the end.

I have never complained before about any thing on this site. I appreciate the fact that these games are given away free and i thank GGOTD for it and the time the crew put into doing this. That being said, i am going to make the suggestion that maybe GGOTD could be a little diverse in there give aways. When you were giving games everyday of the week it didn't matter that much if you had three in a roll of a certain type of game. But now that you are only doing this on weekends It would be nice if you could find a way to give two different type of games away. I think you would keep more people happy and interested in your site. We look forward all week for these games. Its very disappointing to keep on coming here and finding that it's once again a shooter game (The last four games)or once again a three in a row ect..... If you mix them up a little I think you would be keeping more of GGOTD fans happier and then there would be a lot less complaining. It's getting to the point that I don't care if I check the site out or not. I use to rave about GGOTD, not so much anymore. Sadly disappointed, yet once again.

Thank you for continuing to provide weekend games, GOTD - I'm sure it can be tough to juggle work, daily giveaways, the games, and family. So I'm glad you're able to offer us something. But if you CAN feature a different kind of game next weekend, a growing number of us would love to try something else.

I wasn't going to leave a comment for today's game, but after reading some of what others have said, I changed my mind.

I agree about people complaining that this isn't their type of game. The comments area is to remark on what one did or didn't like about the offer of the day. There are always going to be those who don't like what they are given and they are going to complain about it. Anyone who complains about the complainers only puts them into the same category and makes them a hypocrite. I have said it before, negative feedback is more important than positive because it tells developers what needs to be improved in their program.

As for this game, I love space-shooters, but this game is not one. It's a turn-based strategy game. This game might be alright if it had mouse support, but some of us who can't or don't like to use keyboard to play games won't find this one very appealing. So I will have to pass on this one.

To add to my earlier comment... members are encouraged to post comments here, positive or negative. If there is something about the game you didn't like, post it so others know about it. It's the people that don't like the genre of the game or look at the screenshots and say the game is lame that bother me. How can you know anything about the game if you don't download it and try it for yourself. If you don't download it you shouldn't vote, the voting should reflect the opinions of the game, not that you wanted something else instead. The developers use the comments and votes we post here to make their games better. It's important information to them.

OK - can we quit whining about the whiners? Really, I'm getting more annoyed at those who think they should have the right to tell others how to act than those who complain incessantly.

By the way, game plays as advertised, though it's not my favorite genre.

To those that love it, speak up! To those that hate it, speak up, too! Anyone who is offended by a negative opinion should go back to watching FoxNews and quit telling others how they should behave.

GGAOTD can only post the games that developers allow. They can't post a game if developers do not give them a game to post. So, unless one of you whiners wants to write the check, you will have to take what you can get.

And, "You’re boring me. I will forget you. Easily." isn't going to work.. like this project would shut down with out YOU!

Now, having said that, this game isn't for me either. So, I didn't download it and I didn't vote. I will just wait until next week and hope I will find something I do like. :)

Downloaded & installed easily on both my XP and Vista machines. First thing I noticed was the company name and their logo, because it's very similar to my own logo.

This is one of the very few games that lets you have the option of starting either in full window or in a smaller window! This really impressed me because I hate it when something takes up the entire window and I can't see anything else while playing. (I like to check the info some of my taskbar progs are giving me, now and then, while playing a game too!)

I figure when a game is being given away for free, if you don't like it, don't download it and wait for the next one to come along. And if it is a game of a kind you might like, download it, install it and then sometime when you're in the mood, you can always play the game through later.

Personally, I've hoped for a long time that Brainsbreaker Jigsaw Puzzle would be a Giveaway of the Day, it looks like a very nice puzzle with good options and lets you custom make your own jigsaw puzzles.
Another great jigsaw I would like to see here is Jigsaw Puzzle Platinum!

But hoping for something to come along that I especially want, gives me no reason to gripe about something else that is being given away for free. It surprises me sometimes, how some people don't seem to appreciate the fact that they are being offered something that would normally cost money, for free, and be grateful that there are any giveaways at all!

I've been silent for several weeks, as I've chosen not to download the recent offering. They did not interest me. I come back every weekend, hoping for something that I will enjoy. I didn't even get an email announcement for yesterday's game. Came here anyway, and again chose not to download. Yes, the games are free, but when I first started coming here (only a few months ago), there did seem to be more variety of games. I'm not whining or complaining, just requesting a return to a wider variety of game offerings. I'll be back next weekend, anticipating something I will enjoy.

Haven't downloaded or tried the game so not voting thumbs up or thumbs down. Simply commenting generally on the offering.

To everyone who complains, then don't stop by here if you don't like what you see. It amazes me on how many people complain when it is free software. Hmmmmm ,did you pay for it? Did you spend money on it? Oh, wait, you had to click on a button to see the offering......ohhhhh, a whole 10 seconds of your life wasted. I just get really annoyed at people who complain about free stuff.
As for the game, not my cup of tea, so I won't even vote, because I don't care for space games, but hey, keep them coming, I always enjoy seeing people complain about FREE stuff........have a great week all.

Thats what this area is for, to let people know how you feel about a game.

BUT ITS NOT for people to whine and complain , its a free game , you didn't like it then just delete it and vote thumbs down.
They can't please everybody, as I'm sure some people will love this game, I didn't. and thats that!!!!

I have to admit, This offering was mindnumbingly boring, Yesterdays was about the same but only because it was sooooo simple!

Have to agree with "Yet another space game" comments here.

Sure it's free but so is spam but who does their best to avoid that on the internet?

Perhaps GGOTD should try to get a deal with Oberon Media, loads of games are given free with my ISP's connection so perhaps they could offer games here occasionally.

@13 Merlin: A quote from the Wizard of Id, "The peasants are revolting!". The king's response, "Yes they are." I'm with you 100% on this one.

The game: An old-school gamer with keyboard control experience would find this easy to play. I had difficulty with my mouse hand; trying to move, rather than press, the arrow keys. Since I was still giggling over Merlin's comment I had a good time laughing at my own attempt to play this game. See you next week team. BTW, AA2 was awesome in my book!
