I seldom go back to leave a review of a previous day's game, but in this case I really felt I had to make an exception. With the GGotD format, it may not matter, as this will probably never be seen by anyone, but if it saves just one person from this "game", it'll be worth the effort.
I don't like to give negative reviews, but this game simply has to be the absolute worst "Hidden Object Game" I've ever played, and it's competing very hotly for the worst game I've ever played, period.
It simply takes NO creativity or talent to take a misshapen blob that vaguely resembles an object, place it over a solid black, dark grey or white area, then change it's color palette to fully match the background, rendering it completely invisible, and call it a "game".
My first impression was to just delete the thing and call it a lesson learned, but Amanda was cute and I wanted to see if it ever got any better. It didn't.
The technique I developed for clearing a "level" was to start clicking all the misshapen, greyish blobs around the screen (slowly enough to avoid the loud "booinnng" and spinning cursor that's your punishment for just randomly clicking too fast), hoping to accidentally find items on the list while waiting for the "Hint" button to fill. You'll never actually be able to tell what the objects you find this way are, they're just anonymous blobs that disappear when you click them. If you're lucky you'll catch which item on the list was scribbled out if you really care what it is. I stopped caring pretty quickly.
When the Hint button fills, start using it to find the objects that are going to be the most difficult- things like pins and pencils that can be hidden along edges, or blobs like spiders and snails. Usually when the hint target locates an object on the screen you still won't be able to see it, but fortunately the circle stays on the screen so you just try to click the correct pixel in the middle and it'll give you a nice "ding" and something will briefly flicker before disappearing. Again, you'll never really know what it looked like.
Keep clicking vague blobs, edges of things, and random completely black, dark grey or white areas while the hint timer refils, then repeat. There's really little point in ever looking at the list of items because there's very little chance you'll see any of it. Now and then there's an obvious one thrown to you like a bone, but get used to using the hint button a lot.
In an attempt to keep the thing from being completely pitiful, they added a little twist- one object on the screen will be part of a "puzzle". When you click on the object (or more likely just find it by clicking at random on the blobs), you have to place it on top of an item on the screen that it relates to in some way. The problem is, the logic of what relates to what fails when most of the screen is unidentifiable blobs. You can apply the random clicking technique here too, but you're punished for a wrong placement by the item zooming back to it's original spot so you have to figure out where the blob was when you grabbed it. Adds some time to the punishment also. I lived in fear that I'd end up with one I simply couldn't match because the Hint button only appeared to find the object, not where it was supposed to be placed, but I managed to muddle through them all.
Finally it'll get down to the last few items on the list, ones that are completely invisible, so you just have to wait out the Hint timer to locate the black on black, dark grey on dark grey or white on white blobs they call "objects".
I must admit I didn't play with the brightness, contrast or gamma on my venerable old CRT monitor to try enhancing any of the items, but then again one shouldn't have to in a game with any kind of quality to it.
Between completed sections of the game there were puzzles, most of which were pretty simplistic, but most of which worked. Thankfully there's a "Skip" button on the puzzles because I never did figure out what the "untangle the tangled lines" puzzle was asking for as it's eventual goal. And one puzzle just completed itself before I ever even saw what it was about.
And then thankfully it was done. And I was able to immediately free up the wasted disk space this "game" had been occupying.
Still not sure why I bothered going through it, I guess I was just so fascinated by how bad this thing is.
I see the company makes other games, but if this is the kind of thing they consider not only worthy of releasing, but of actually charging for, I think I'll just pass on any of their other offerings.

Game downloaded fine on the Giveaway day, I put it on 2 machines, one with Vista home premium the other Windows 8. It was tricky to install properly on the Windows 8 machine but eventually both were ok and the game ran fine. I came to play it again today (Friday) and all I get on the Vista machine is 'Superior Save has stopped working Windows is checking for a solution' - which it doesn't find! On the Windows 8 machine the game is still working - but is running far too slow to be playable. Very disappointing as I love HOGs. Any ideas?

The game Superior save has good features on graphics. But the game is verrrry slow. Click on the item to be searched, it gets it but after 3/4 items it stucks somewhere. clicking on the right item also is not accepted. We need to close the application/game and reload to select next 3/4 items

The Game installed and ran fine on my XP based laptop.
The objects in the scenes are drawn well enough to be found in a reasonable amount of time. I was a little disappointed when the find the path to the rocket fuses timed out and the game just moved on.
This one like many games would benefit from the ability to be run in a resized & movable window, instead of only running full screen. This would allow me to start the game and move it to my larger monitor (or big screen tv/ monitor). As it is I have to configure the hardware to clone display and reset them after playing. Should be easier to play on dual monitor systems.
Thank you, have enjoyed the game so far (about halfway point).

So why is the only female in the opening scenes depicted as subservient, wearing a short skirt and serving drinks while all of the male employees are relaxing and enjoying the party? THIS is supposed to be your hero? Seriously?
Ask yourself if this would be even remotely acceptable if the genders were reversed and you were being asked to sympathize with a male hero who was serving drinks to a room of all female employees who were wearing suits while he was in skimpy clothing. Or if you could respect this character or want to play him in a game.
This character and the situation depicted are at least twenty years out of date, and good riddance. This is not a protagonist I can respect or want to play. Boo for a very bad and outdated portrayal of gender stereotypes in the workplace.

Fun game, thanks for making it available. There were some spelling errors ("envelop" was the one I kept really noticing). Also the ambient background sounds could use more variety. But overall it was a fun 2 hours.
Thanks for making it available for free for a short time.

Just finished this game all the way. I spent hours trying to complete the game and finally did it. I will say however this game is more entertaining then those reruns of a popular court drama TV show on the air on broadcast TV.
They nailed this one as far as the fun factor goes. Just wish it were more.

I've had problems getting other Alawar games to execute properly; I was looking forward to playing this game, but it kept needing to shut down, but never giving any kind or error code and I simply don't have the time to mess with it, so it had to go.
On a positive note I did get the RailroadsofAmerica game working, but not too impressed with it; seems like they could have done a lot more with it.

Sorry it took me most of today to moderate most of the above comments. Was out at our new house sorting things out. We've only got three weeks before the builders are done and have been sorting out some changes such as Velux windows in the roof etc.
Thank you for everyone's responses. I think the sluggishness in those running Win 7 and win 8 may be caused by a memory leak, though that's only a possibility. From the way some of you have described how it plays okay at first then becomes sluggish. That's a classic sign of a memory leak. I don't think there's any way of fixing it apart from some recoding of the game.
Also I apologise for not answering everyone's comments. I was exhausted when we arrived home so slept for nearly 5 hours. It's now approaching 3am and I need to go back to bed. :)

Agree with the core of responses. Medium weight, medium screen size, medium game play w/ nice enough graphics & music. Tough that genre is suffering from glutness but people do tired of things. Thanks for it though, will play now & then - Win 8 x64.

Only come across one problem while playing, when I reached the spot the difference screen, it said level complete before I even did anything. Runs a bit slow, but that is probably my computer.

Hi WR/Deborah1962 here: The error message is that common one when it tells you it performed some illegal move and now needs to close then asks you if you want to send the information to I assume Microsoft for some reason, if you say yes, you get another little window with checked boxes letting you know it was reported, if you say no it closes.
I tried finding the file and did a system search, nothing, it's as if I never downloaded it or tried to install. I've given up as I did find it on Jenkat and it wouldn't download right there either.
I think it's my old dinosaur of a computer, even once playable games like Cradle of Egypt is so slow then snaps out of it for a little bit only to repeat the slow load, then it's fine for a bit. I tried upgrading my video card dLL and downloaded/installed the Direct X upgrade. I have purged my caches and have ran defrag. I just think my system is kaput.
I'll stick to solitaire I guess or the older games. Brickshooter Egypt works pretty well as does Heroes of Hellas (the Olympia and Athens crawls).

Thank you for your feedback Deborah; have you tried Game Booster? It frees up around 40% of the RAM usually used by non essential programs running in the background. It's basically a click and forget type of program. Once you've finished playing you can click again and it turns everything back on that was turned off. It's totally free and available from the Razer site. Just Google Razer and Game Booster for the link. I guarantee it will improve game play and probably allow you to play games that were previously unplayable.

For some reason, it is running painfully slowly on my (64-bit Windows 7) machine. Especially annoying since you have to click on JUST the right spot to pick up objects.

I haven't had a chance to play yet, but I wanted to make a note about the title: While it is a bit stilted to call one's boss a "superior" in this sense, I believe it's meant to have extra meanings. A superior save could be saving your superior, for example, or it could be a save/rescue/etc. that's much better than a normal one. That, combined with the alliteration, indicate that this was named by someone who likes playing with language.

Still same failure to connect error, I even downloaded a second time to be sure the size was correct, and it was. (although it was 89.5)

The game giveaway site do not send messages like that. sounds like you've picked up some adware. The game giveaway team always check giveaways thoroughly. Since Dec 2006 they have never given a game away that contains malware. It's likely you've pickled it up from somewhere else. (If you installed Sound Frost from the other giveaway site, it could be that - it did inject adware into a lot of community members computers including mine. Took me ages to get rid of it).
p.s. if todays game was the culprit, many more community members would have posted with the same problem. So far you are the only one who has reported this, which implies its from another source.

............................Moderator Comment.....................
From the error messages it looks like you need to install Direct X. Win 7 comes with DX11, go to Microsoft's site and download DX 9.0c and install that. Also make sure you've got the latest graphics drivers for your graphics card. to check what graphics card you have open up the direct X diagnostics panel by typing dxdiag in the search field. When open click on the display tab. You should be able to see the model of your graphics card/chip. Go to the relevant site (usually NVIDIA or ATI/ASUS). Once there click on the driver link and follow the instructions.

Based upon the comment dates for this game on the Alawar site, this game is about four years old, although it looks more dated than that. An HOG that has little more than just a bunch of garbage to search through gets dull fast. It's the bottom of the genre.

Unfortunately I've been out for most of the day and the other moderator hasn't turned in. With respect to the problem you are getting; it's not the giveaway servers that are the problem. They have recorded thousands of downloads today. Check the FAQ's section that I link to in my review, or visit the game discussion forums and look in the sticky section for the FAQ's. There are some fixes that should sort your problem; for example check to make sure Internet Explorer isn't set to offline working. This can be the case if you use other browsers rather than I.E.

I figured out just a week or so ago that I don't like the "Natalie Brooks" games. I deleted them all from my laptop. SO, saying this game is similar at "Natalie Brooks" WAS NOT a selling point for me.
What a DUMB NAME for a game!
Seriously? The premise of the game doesn't make sense. You have a voice mail from somebody saying that they have been kidnapped but that's not good enough for the police? Where is this story set? France?
You WOULD have more than one option, of course, contrary to what the game claims. Can you say THREE DAY WEEKEND!
"Working girl" means prostitute. Right? I don't think I want to pretend to be one of those!
Graphically rich scenes? Reminds me of high cholesterol. Is there a pill you can take for that?
I DO LIKE the ability to choose which item on your list you’d like help finding. That's different from other Hidden Object games I have played.
The screen shots make it look just like most other HOG's Alawar offers. After I played my first one from them, I have always felt a sense of De Ja Vu playing any other. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME!

I like it, though it is pretty easy. You don't have to be stressed about time though, and the mini games are pretty good. The graphics are good and you don't for the main part have to figure out what the objects are. Though in the living room area, one of the objects is fan, and there is one that asks for fan and is electric, and one that asks for 2 fans and they are hand fans. I will keep it, play it again and see what kind of changes in the hidden objects are.

Hi, I too wish the Game lasted a bit longer, so perhaps doing one Level at the time and getting out of it is not a bad idea? That is if you're a hog addict (count me in:) and skip dialogs to get faster to finding more objects, lol - thus making it slightly more challenging to resolve the crime at the end.. Don't know, everyone has different technics.
Reaching notoriously for any P.I. Game (I have them all) and finding some of them almost "masochistic" to the eye (like Vegas Heist for instance, so ridiculously crammed with objects) - Supirior Save (naturally not in the same league a Mystery P.I.s) is quite refreshingly pleasant. Cheerful Scenes, relatively easy to find objects, and graphics (at least in the Scenes) - are not too bad either.
Played only one Level, let the red car out of the carpark (mini game at the end of that Level) with ease.. So - like it so far, and expect the same later on.
Don't know yet about final "scoring" under my chosen Name, perhaps choosing different name it'll let me play again "remembering" previous score on some List? Problem here would be - memorizing the Scenes in such short Game is easy enough, so no real Challenge to better oneself, hmm..
But - let's not spoil the fun for now:)
Thanks GGOTD for this Gift and Whiterabbit for Your Review and time. Have a nice Sunday Everyone.

A nice diversion rather than a mind boggling or pressured game.
having just had a little look and played the 1st level it does occur that some of the items to be found are more shadows or silhouettes of things placed on doors, or walls etc.
Also, this is the 1st time I've had the opportunity to play a game in the role of a "working girl" :)
overall rating from me - within its genre - 62%

Hi Stephen. I am glad that this Sunday's game, downloads, installs and plays! fine on Windows XP. I do not know if it is of any consequence, but last week's train game had two empty folders after being installed: internal and external. Perhaps this is why it did not work. My computer has the latest driver available and I am the administrator, so that was not the solution. It seemed like a nice game and I was a bit disappointed I could not play it, but I have a bunch of great games given away throughout the years, so I am not complaining. So far this is only the second game I have problems with. Thank you Stephen for all your reviews and GGotD for all the games given away.

I've played through about 16 sites in the game.
Yet another hidden object game. The art work is nice, the music is fine, plot is okay, but I've played so many hidden object games.
If I had not played so many hidden object games, if there were not already so many hidden object games out there, I'd give this a very good score. But there are tons of these kinds of games.
Suggestions:
1. A different title.
The title "Superior Save" had me concerned the game was some poorly translated thing with fractured English, since nobody refers to bosses as their "superiors" and more, except facetiously.
I did not see anything wrong with the English in the game. It is just the title that is off. Maybe "Executive Rescue", "Search for Mr. Big" or "Saving The Chief".
2. I have a good monitor and I wear my reading glasses to play hidden object games. But still some of the objects were too faint (green on green, white on white) and small to be seen.
They were even really hard to see after asking for a hint.
3. The puzzles were uninspiring. Not that they were bad or anything, they were fine, good art and all, but there was nothing new and interesting or unique.
The industry really needs a new easy to code game genre for casual game players.

Thank you for your excellent feedback Keith. I agree about the title. :)

Whilst I do like this type of game, ie: Hidden Object there are two really annoying bits to it. Firstly, the howling mutts in the background on what seem to be every outdoor scene, no way to turn this off, not everyone loves an uncontrolled howling mutt! Designers please take note!
Secondly, the Level Completed drop down graphics, there's no way to skip this, after the first couple of levels this gets really annoying.
Other than that I've enjoyed the gameplay so far.

Hello Deborah, what error message did you get? Often you can work out what's wrong by the message. Most game giveaways are free standing and never show up in the Add/Remove explorer or the installed programs list. I've mentioned the default installation path in my review above. check that path to see if it is there. Look for the following folder within the games folder:

Superior Save:
Introduction:
Reference: Accessed HERE 28th Nov 08
Installation:
The downloaded zip file is 87.4MB in size that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may cause some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, Any positive hits you may get (as one community member did with one of last weeks games) 'WILL' be false positives.
The game giveaway team check every game giveaway for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their business, so they make sure all software given away via the gamegiveaway sites are thoroughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.
Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added last year. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out. Also try right clicking on the orange colored set up file and select Run as Administrator.
The game installs to C:\Games\SuperiorSave_game
The installed game is 287 MB in size. There is no shortcut installed to either the desktop or start menu.
During the installation wizards progress you are given the opportunity to select your own installation path if you wish; (it's highly recommended, especially if you have a second HDD or a partitioned drive as it will help to keep your system running smoothly - the more you fill your root drive (usually the C: drive), the slower your computer will run – if you’ve got a decent sized hard drive of more than a few hundred Gigabytes it’s always a good idea to partition it into at least two drives so that you can keep the operating system and other essential applications separate from other programs and games.
There is no uninstaller included; so, if you decide the game isn't for you, remove the game by manually deleting the installed folder.
The Game:
What would you do if your boss was kidnapped? What if there was no one else who wanted to help him? That's Amanda's dilemma in Superior Save, a hidden object game that sends you on an unorthodox rescue mission.
At work one morning, Amanda gets a call from her boss who pleads, "Help, I've been kidnapped!" Exasperated, she heads out to find his maid. After learning very little information, she decides to have a look around his house. Okay, I must interject - why doesn't she call the police from the start? You would think that would be a normal reaction if someone calls to tell you they've been kidnapped. She does eventually stroll down to the police department, but they refuse to investigate unless Amanda can provide evidence of a crime. The characters in this game are oddly apathetic, and don't seem very concerned about each other, which is a bit strange. None the less, the story background is interesting, although it isn't expanded on in great detail, and there are some notable plot holes.
As with all hidden object games, your goal is to find all the hidden objects on your list. There aren't many instructions given, which shouldn't be a problem for experienced players, but it might confuse those new to the genre.
Rounds are untimed (with the exception of the mini-games), and you get unlimited recharging hints to help you out. Unlike many other games, this hint system is flexible, allowing you to choose which item on your list you'd like help finding. If you make too many random clicks, you'll be warned, but there is no penalty.
Objects are camouflaged naturally in the scenes, with some color blending on certain objects. Occasionally, an object is resized so that a typically small object (like a pen or a stamp) might appear quite big. In general, most objects are fairly large and easy to find. Many objects are plainly visible, while a few are nearly transparent and impossible to spot. There is usually a good mix of each in every scene, but on the whole it's easy to find what you need.
It's fair to say this is a straight forward, traditional hidden object game, where the focus is on finding objects and not on solving puzzles. However, there are simple inventory puzzles in every scene. These generally involve finding a hidden object on your list and putting it somewhere logical in the scene, like placing a light bulb in a chandelier, or coffee grinds in the coffee maker.
The game also includes mini-games, but you can skip these if you choose. One involves rearranging parked cars so that one car can exit the front gate. Another has you matching stamps in a game of memory, and yet another has you reconnecting fuses to set off fireworks. These seem loosely connected to the plot, and are your typical and somewhat predictable HOG mini-games.
In Superior Save's favor, the graphics are clear and crisp, and most of the hidden objects look like they should. There are subtle animations in each scene, like steam coming up from a tea kettle or an animated cat wagging his tail, which make the environments seem more life-like. Each scene also has its own sound effects, like a buzz saw in the garage, or traffic in the street. The animated cartoon cut scenes are fun to watch, and they tell the quirky story without the use of many words.
Now for the downside. You can expect between 2-3 hours of game play, which is on the short side, though not uncommon for a hidden object game. The replay value is questionable once you've won.
When you compare Superior Save to other hidden object games, it's easy to sit on the fence. The game play is smooth, and the graphics are appealing, but it lacks the depth and challenge of some longer and more involved games like Romance of Rome or Reincarnations: Awakening. It may appeal to new players and those who want a low pressure game, but experienced players might not feel as challenged.
If you miss today’s game, lose it to a format or decide you want it after the giveaway has finished, the good news is that it’s available for free 365.25 days a year over at MyPlayCity and Jenkat Games HERE (MyPlayCity) and HERE (Jenkat Games)

The following videos will give you an idea what the game plays like. out HERE and THIS

O.S:Windows XP/ Vista

System RAM: 512 MB
DirectX: 9.0
Hard Drive Space: 299 MB
64 MB video RAM
Conclusion:
A standard Hidden Object Game that'll keep you entertained for an hour or two. I found the hint system better than usual because you can choose the item you want to find. Objects were generally easy to find, there was no timer and the game was interdispersed with mini games at the end of each section of the game. Levels had appropriate sound effects and generally the story line was entertaining, though you can easily skip the story if you wish. There's no timer.
There's little replay value in the game. I found the levels a little too easy.
Scoring:
Gameplay: 7
Graphics: 7
Audio: & sound effects: 7
Re-playability: 6
Originality: 6
Total = 6.6 out of 10

If today's game doesn't take your fancy then check out the game discussion forums and the free games synopsis. We’ve posted a couple of thousand free games over the last four years, many of which are excellent alternatives to their commercial cousins.
The deals over on Steam are 80% off the Red Faction franchise. you can get all the games in the series (Red Faction 1 & 2, Red Faction Guerilla and Red Faction Armageddon plus dlc for less than $10, Red Faction Guerilla has some of the best destructible environments in any video gamer I've ever played. I spent one weekend alone out of the hundreds of hours I've played the game repeatedly destroying a bridge (it was massive), trying different ways to get it to collapse. The game has excellent destruction physics, with virtually everything man made (in game) being destructible.
Also there are over a hundred games on sale this weekend on Steam alone. If you pre order The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (£26.99 with 10% off) you'll get a bonus mission, a free copy of Spec Ops: The Line, (an excellent third person shooter, with gorgeous environments plus the whole collection of X-Com games (6 games) including the latest X-Com: Enemy Unknown (doesn't include any of the dlc's)
Today's 24/48hr deals are 40% off Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and 66% off Fantasy: Kingdom Wars ( there's a massive free expansion that adds more towns, units, guilds, sieges as well as more stuff. I highly recommend the Two worlds collection.
For more deals check out the latest game available on IndieGameStand HERE
You can pay as much as you want but no less than $1. The present game is called DROD: Tendry's Tale; and, If you beat the average you'll also get a second DROD game and the music, plus a mystery game (not announced yet). The game has been added to Steams Greenlight project, so if it's Greenlit, you'll also get a Steam key. At the moment it's DRM free. This deal ends Tuesday morning 4am (GMT)
There's also quite a few decent deals over on Desura, Greenman Gaming as well as other game distributors such as Gamersgate and Gamefly. Finally, you'll also find a few indie bundles still live. You'll find details of all the bundles still available over in the first two pages of the Game discussion forums HERE These are the best way to get bargains as you can often get $100 plus worth of games for around $5 or less. (e.g. last November/December THQ sold their entire recent catalogue worth almost $500 for less than $6 and presently there's a Humble bundle Origin bundle - see below for details)
Check out the Bundle Stars deals for the best bundles around at the moment. There are at least 4 Bundle Stars packs still available, each with at least 9 or 10 games (all with Steam keys) for less than £4 for each bundle. Best of all, the latest Humble Bundle beats last years THQ bundle with several high profile games included in the Bundle (Battlefield 3, Medal of Honor, Dead Space 1 and 3, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Mirror's Edge, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition and The Sims 3 + Starter Pack, that's literally hundreds of pounds (or dollars) worth of AAA games, many of which are still current for literally less than $5. Some of the games require Origin, others Steam. Some you get both Steam and Origin versions. This is an amazing deal, with First Person Shooters, First Person Horror, Racing (bikes and cars) and simulation as well as a beautifully rendered and executed parkour like game (Mirror's Edge) (Parkour is where a person runs and jumps etc over roof tops and other high places)

Please note that if you get any games from Gametop or MyPlayCity you need to watch out for toolbar installations and home page hijacks. Just un-check the check boxes. with MPC games you may need to do this every time you boot a game up unless you create a new shortcut from the installed executable.
