I've considered creating my own site, but the drugs I have to take knock the stuffing out of me and I never seem to have the strength to pursue the project. A friend was going to help, but life got in the way.

Hi, On the second go around with my son on the game we seem to be stuck at level 9. We have the 5 parts of the map, have killed all the monters and visited every village. The Quests List tells us we have everthing with only the tomb remaining but when we go to the tomb it won't let us in, saying we need all five parts of the map. I've gone back to the end of level 7 & 8 via saved game and worked back to 9 but still the same answer. What to do? Sorry if this isn't the correct location for this question.

Re: my comments #52 & #54 - copied installed game to my desktop under WinXP, everything works fine, which is no help since I wanted it to run on my laptop. Still no suggestions? Anyone?

for all interesting in seeing what you can do with TorqueGameBuilder: This game was done with an early adopter version of it, with the current versions it could have been developed even faster.

Installed on my (Win98SE) laptop which easily meets all hardware requirements, but when I run Styrateg I get an error - "buffer overrun detected" in styrateg.exe, under the Visual C++ runtime library. Drivers are up to date, AVG updated scan shows nothing, no malware after multiple scans either. I already have the C++ runtime library files installed - any ideas?
(Anyone else notice that the game's name is "Strategy" with one letter moved?)

Hey, I get "The key cannot be decrypted" when running setup just like 14 above. I posted a comment in the forums thing almost nine hours ago. What's a gamer to do?

This is another app that won't run on an Intel 810 chipset. The screen goes to rainbow snow. Changing the display acceleration doesn't help. It's not likely the game's fault, because it happens in other apps as well, Planetarium and Celestis being two.

I don't know if this is unique to Windows 2000, but the i810 driver ain't right. And it doesn't matter that it's passed Windows certification, it still ain't right.

Granted, I haven't played this game, but it looks very similar to the freeware and open source Battle for Wesnoth. I HAVE played that game, and I'm pretty confident that this game can't match it for fun, depth, pace or story. Just my two cents, and I hope I'm terribly terribly wrong.

Thank you to Rake in Grass and GGAOTD for today's game ... the dsl download/setup took under 3 minutes on my Windows XP system and plays without any issues. I wish the game had more instructions - will have to ask my husband for more help, to understand how to fight the wolf!

I am new to RPG-type games and since this game looks 'simplier' than those my husband plays, I am giving it a try. Thanks to WR-Stephen and all the other comments for helping me to decide to download this game. Thanks for something new and different (atleast in my opinion).

Game seems fun. It reminds me of old console games like Shining Force, which I always liked.

Anyway I found that the 1.13 patch from the Rake In Grass website ( http://styrateg.rakeingrass.com/download.php ) works with this giveaway. Based on campy's comment, it sounds like the update is well worth using.

ziwjawk - #42 Make sure you get to all the points in each level. That is, make sure you visit each structure (village, castle, trade point, etc.) and make sure you have defeated all enemys. The game will let you know when you have done so.

I am not a big fan of RPGs but I gave it a try anyway. The game installed and played well with no lag or other problems. It took me a while to learn all the finer points of the game; how to move around, how to use the weapons and spells, etc.

I am still not a big fan of RPGs but I will keep this one for a while. It will fill a few hours of slack time for me and maybe I will learn to like the game, who knows! :lol:

I had no problems downloading or installing the game, but when I try to play it, I read the tutorial and when the game starts, the screen is gray. I have tried using different chaecters and toggeling all the options, but nithing seems to work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sigh. Must be something wrong with me. I can't even get through what it calls the tutorial, although that gives you -no- help, not much of a tutorial.

Downloaded and installed fine on XP home SP3. Gameplay's OK and fairly basic, not bad graphics and the music's OK but soon gets tedious. Luckily though, there's an option to turn the music off.
Plotwise, it's a fairly liear storyline with a modicom of free range within each level. As levels progress, so your party grows and levelling up isn't too hard, at least not in the early stages.
I've played better RPG's, but this is quite a cool little timewaster.
I do expect it to get tougher in later levels though - these are just first impressions. :)

All I can say is that it plays fine and doesn't lag for me. It's pretty smooth, as it goes.

Awesome downloads this weekend, really enjoying yesterday's Mahjong Epic!

@ Sleeping Dragon (#8) This version does include an editor. :-)

The game installed without problems and ran smoothly for me.

The graphics are dated but not unlivable. Since the core of this game is strategy/rpg they are not really that important anyway.

This version also includes a level editor so players can design their own games. I think that is an excellent addition to what seems a nice, if somewhat dated, game.

I have always preferred turn-based games to rts, so this is an extra nice treat for me. I also look forward to playing with the editor.

I downloaded this the last time it was available and really enjoyed the game. If you like Strategy then give this one a try.

Previous version was 1.09, but this is 1.12. Couldn't find any details on their website about what had changed between 1.09 and 1.13.

However, I did find that there is already an update on their website to 1.13. This update came out in March so I don't understand why we are getting an older version. They say that this version 1.13 does the following: "a lot of bugs are fixed there (f.e. bugs in 5th and 17/18th level), beta of level editor added, several user maps added, increased maximum hero level (from 8 to 15), some details added etc."

On Vista.

Open an Explorer window to the directory that you unzipped the file to.

Right-Click on the Setup.exe file, and select Properties.

On the Compatibility tab select Windows XP compatibility mode, and Run as an administrator.

Then run the setup.

These are the basic steps for any time you get an error saying a program can not be run on Vista. Most times it will work like a charm.

pretty good game indeed. Recommended download. Not sure if it is a keeper, but played for 10 mins and it is pretty neat. Downloading was not as easy as usual though.. the site still has problem. It is a minor one, but still irritating

D/L this back in Oct., as prev. said, is rather simple graphics didn't have the freezing or delay problems when playing. Not a bad time waster to play but as Whiterabbit said doesn't compare to Oblivion.

Like Whiterabbit above, I have Oblivion and Morrowind w/expansion packs, so I'll be playing those for the next decade, probably. ;) I think this is a great free offering for those who are wondering about RPG games, though. This sort of game is a lot like Aveyond, I think, although the controls are probably different.

Thanks to the GGOTD team for another weekend of diverse games! I'd also like to say thanks for always having the new games up on time lately. Yesterday, I was waiting, and the game popped up right at 12:00 PST, and that's been true for the last month or so, and it is much appreciated!!

Well, Commenter #15 is very accurate, this is a poor game, slow, pointless, a complete waste of time. True, it downloads and installs easily. Then you have to read an endless letter in a font which is difficult to read, working through sentence structures which are supposed to be medieval, I suppose, and when you are finally playing, clunky hardly describes the slow pace and aimless clicking and pointing. Absolutely, if you value your own time, do not waste it here.

I myself find the game ok! I love the medievil music...nice touch! Sure the game has a few quirks and is not as fast paced as others, but for a way to pass a couple hours its ok! Thanks GOTD!

I tried the demo of this after playing the excellent Jets-n-Guns from the same company. Go ahead and try Jets-n-Guns if you didn't catch it back when it was given away, you won't be sorry! KingMania also is a good game from them.

Styrateg wasn't nearly as impressive, but (as Whiterabbit says) I'm sure some people who do not have much experience with these kinds of games will find it enjoyable. Also, it may become better throughout the game; I only played 2 maps before leaving it.

Thumbs down for this game, thumbs up for the developer in general.

I am very disappointed with this site. It's not the games-they are great, but i cant seem to activate my game everytime! I hope you retify this error. Im using vista basic, 1gb ram, 2 ghz, have sound and graphics card. have internet connection( 3mb)

Downloaded this when previously offered, but it proved not to be a keeper. Others may like it, of course.

Do check the YouTube video's above. They will give you a good idea as to what the game play is like. The music is very Medieval and the sound effects are fun. If you have a decent sound system attached to your computer then turn the volume up loud. :lol:

Here’s my review from previously:

I have several role playing games that are much better than this (IMO), so will pass on today’s offering; but for those who have no RPG’s this ‘will’ be a treat. Get it while the goings hot. If you’ve never played RPG’s and find you really like it, then try one of the many boxed sets you can buy from the bargain bins such as Myst III: Exile or URU Ages beyond Myst, Wizardry 8 and earlier versions of Might and Magic such as IX that only cost me less than $10 each as you’ll find the first/third person immersivness and the far superior graphics are amazing compared to this giveaway, and, after today, you’ll find them a lot cheaper as well. I’ve seen The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on offer for around $10 over the price this game usually costs, and used copies for the same price. For anyone who hasn’t heard of ‘oblivion, well you haven’t lived :lol: The original called Morrowmind is definitely available for less than the cost of this game and that’s also an amazing game, though graphically inferior to Oblivion (only just. I apologise for being so negative, I'm spoiled when it comes to RPG games I'm a little biased. I think I'll play some Oblivion now. I bought the last expansion pack and have never played it yet, so I think it's time I did.

I give this 6 out of 10 for game play. I’m sure some would score it higher, but I’ve been playing my favorite r.p.g. recently and this just doesn’t compare. It’s certainly worth downloading if you don’t have any games of this genre though.

The only reason I'm not going to download today's giveaway is because I have the game already, and speaking from personal experience I can strongly recommend it. It is a very nice title, a mix between strategy and RPG, it's especially appealing to me because I really like turn based games and it's a genre that hasn't been getting much attention recently. The only thing that this game lacks to be an epic title is a handy editor and a couple dozens player-made quests.

Smooth installation on Window XP Pro with SP3. As I had learned there was a problem but reg. runs fine. I will try the game. It is not my personal taste but from the technical point of view everythings is fine.Thumbs up.
