Can someone tell me where I can buy this game? It seems to have disappeared from the web. The only references to it I can find point back to this page, but the link to buy the game on gamegiveawayoftheday.com doesn't work. Failing that, could someone who downloaded the game from this site re-up it somewhere else? The screenshots look pretty good!!

Hi everyone.
I downloaded this game in last minute and i finished it without any problems (Vista Premium 32 bit, Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM). Game is better then the previous version. Thanks for that game! :)

This installed and ran just fine. The controls were a bit touchy, however seeing as this is an arcade game as opposed to a racing game, therefore I accepted the challenge. For those having trouble steering- experiment with just tapping the left and right turn. Get the hang of how much pressure you actually need to exert.

Only one minor problem. I was almost half a lap ahead of the other cars by the end and the game tells me I lost.... Will replay and try again.

@ #11 I LOVE any software that lets me do more things with the mouse instead of having to use the keyboard.
Better question is: WHY DOES ANYONE USE A MOUSE WHEN TRACKBALLS ARE SO MUCH BETTER AND EASIER? You don't have to move an entire trackball unit, you can set it anywhere because you only have to move the ball or click the buttons on top. The unit itself is stationary and can be set anywhere.
I always use a trackball, I hate mice.

Advantages of software that you can do with using only the mouse include:
#1. With a trackball, you can set the trackball in your lap, kick back, and play games, etc, without having to move anything except the ball on top or side of the trackball.
#2. If you happen to have finger or hand injuries or any other injury that makes the use of one arm and hand difficult or painful, you can still do things on the computer easily. Last year I had a broken wrist on my left hand and my biggest lifesaver was the previous giveaway Comfort Keys because of its excellent virtual keyboard that I could use with a trackball.
#3. You can play games with trackball while listening to tv, even without having to turn on the light, when youre using your trackball instead of having to use the keyboard and having to worry about finger placement!
#4. While it may sometimes be fun to play a game with all the realistic controls, joystick steering wheel etc, its also nice to be able to just play the game while lying down, laptop on your lap, trackball on your chest, while you're in bed with a bad cold or flu or other such situation.

Those are just a few of many situations where I LOVE a game or app that will let me use it with only the trackball instead of having to use the keyboard. Right now, I have two fingers bandaged with painful cuts right where they take painful impacts every time I strike a key with either. Believe me, I'm glad for the virtual keyboard & things I can do with the trackball right now!!!

BTW I wish Mahjongg Epic would be offered again as a giveaway. It was offered in June 08 & not since then, and is so far the most excellent Mahjong game I've ever seen!

For those who say they received a bunch of errors may be because your graphics card doesn't work. The game work fluidly on mine with an ATI Radeon 9600. However I agree with those who said the game was badly created. The turning is very sensitive and it completely takes the fun out of this game.

To:the Moderator

Thanks, he played it but the cars are going too fast for him to control, I couldn't find how to slow them down, by chance can I? He loved the car color and the car though. Thank you for giving away games for younger kids too, I sure do appreciate it!!

Hi Suzy, check out the games that Whiterabbit has posted in his comment #1. Most are free to download. Perhaps the game will be worth keeping for a couple of years. It's amazing how quick the young ones pick up gaming skills.

With respect to slowing the cars down. There may be a way by editing the games files, but I couldn't tell you how to at the moment.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in. I was thrilled about this game today because I usually miss the 'arcade' style game days, and always find myself on here for the 'puzzle' game days. Not being a fan of the puzzles, I downloaded this game regardless of the poor comments I'd read on here.

Well, I should have listened. The graphics for the cars looked fantastic as the game started, but as soon as I got to the first corner, I got the same jumping around that I read about in another comment. It looked like my car was in a spin, then it froze my computer. I tried one more time, and was able to crawl to the second corner where the game jumped, then froze again.

I have to say, it is possible that it is my computer, since this is not a gaming system I'm using, but having said that, in my case anyway, I must agree with the poor comments on this game today.

Thanks anyway GGOTD. Keep them coming.

Unistalled, not enjoyable. Controls r gey(arrows only) graphics could use some beefing along with the constant dim of lighting. Iv got a AMD duo which runs some games at double speed so i gotta change the affinity of the game through the process manager but if you minimize the game it errors up every time.

Just dont even waste ur time on this game, its pointless.

I ran it on Win7 64bit with no problems. The first level is dark like the pictures on this websit. The game itself is weak. There are better games out on the net than this. Whiterabbit is right about TrackMania. It is great for kids as young as 3. I download the free one and then bought the United. Will I keep this game? Depends on my five year old son.

out of curiosity sake i downloaded, installed, and played. worked fine, no errors or problems. graphics wise it is pretty good, but the controls are so bad, its not even a game. the cars handle like your trying to drive your car without the steering wheel. make a turn and it keeps turning well after you try to streghten your car out. im all for a free game, and usually am quite happy with what i get from here, but this time, GGOTD let us down.

Run's fine on VISTA 32-BIT with except of the screen output is too dark.
There is a config.cfg in the installed directory which parameters can be changed. But be careful because any changes in graphic settings can have unexpected results like graphical errors in screen-output or that program will not startup.
By changing the parameter brightness or contrast there is no effect on the game noticeable by me.
Has somebody found out values for that which have positive effect on the screen-output?

The game isntalled and operates under Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Gameplay is pretty lame and controls are via keyboard.
steering control via keyboard arrows completely sucks !!!!

I don't think I'd pay a dime for this software.

add mouse control and/or joystick control and you'd have something that would sell.

Downloaded and installed on XP sp3.
First off, I don't like playing without the mouse, but I can handle it...
The first time I played this game, at several points in the first lap the car started flashing left and right and around in circles. I thought maybe I was spinning out my car??? :)
About a quarter of the way through the second lap, my laptop froze! I tried everything to get out of the program to no avail. I had to yank my power cord and the battery out to get this game off of my screen...
Okay, maybe it was me? So I play it again. It only flashed back and forth once, but again at the quarter mark of the second lap-it froze up again.
Bad enough I'm not good at racing using the buttons, but I know it's not me freezing up the game.
Sorry, but this one is uninstalled.
Thanks, GGOTD, but no thanks.
Molly

This game has its good and bad points. Good points-installs to C:/Games, allowing you to simply zip the game to back it up. Game has good graphics. Bad points-Game is VERY dark and will need tweaking to get the visuals bright enough to drive. Controls can NOT be changed, which for me is what kills it, as it forces you to use the awkward up>down>left>right instead of the WASD that many are used to.

Overall a good game if you can tweak it bright enough and get used to the controls. It is just a shame that they don't allow control reconfiguring or at least have a couple of scheme to choose from.

Today’s game; called Street Racer 2: Abandoned City Racing unpacks to 167Mb. there's no shortcuts installed, so you'll have to create those yourself. It's another of those games from Hand made games that doesn’t have a demo, nor a web site to visit so my usual practice of writing up a review the previous night (after at least spending an hour playing a demo or the full version if I already have it) wasn’t possible until after the game was given away, so this will be a short review. I may post some screen captures later today when I have the time, but at the moment I've got the kids to get ready for gymnastics..

I was immediately struck by the similarity to the original StreetRacer game, given away by handmade games back in April of this year. Apart from the image; the menus and the available race tracks as well as the cars were exactly the same as StreetRacer. However, instead of a top down 2D racer we now get a full 3D racing game.

The handling of the car using the cursor keys was okay, but there was nothing of note to separate this from some of the freeware games I’ve mentioned below in the alternative racing games thread, for example, , CLC Dream Test Drive and BMW M3 Challenge. My advice go get Trackmania Nations, which is free. It’s got better graphics, a better feel, the ability to create your own race tracks plus there’s a massive online community who have created hundreds (if not thousands) of new tracks.

If you don’t have any racing games this may be an okay game to play around with; the younger kids may find it easier to play than some of the latest racing games, but to be honest, I’ll stick with my Fuel, Grid, Test Drive Unlimited, Race 07, GTR2, Dirt and Burnout Paradise City The Ultimate Box and the last few Need for Speed games, because those games have an element of realism and much better handling of the vehicles you get to drive than today’s game. Okay, if you can’t afford to purchase such games (I got a free copy of Grid with my new Graphics card), then this is probably a reasonable deal.

In all fairness I cannot give this a score without being biased due to the large number of excellent racing games I already have, so I’m not going to give it a score. It’s probably worth a download, especially if you don’t have any racing games, but I do think the majority of the community is going to find the game very weak despite the improvements that the developer of the game has included.

A big thank you goes out to Handmade Games and the game giveaway team for giving us free games at the weekend. To Handmade games I think this game would be greatly improved if you added power ups and maybe gave the 3D streets a post apocalyptic feel, which the name implies (IMO). You could also further enhance the game by adding weapons to the game, much like Death Track or Crashdays. For those interested in such games you could try the free online game Darkwind or the now free GTA I & II, though none are suitable for children.

I did encounter problems after playing a few levels. I'd minimized the game and when I tried to bring it back to the front, it froze my system and I had to re boot the computer using the reset switch. I lost all the review material that I'd been typing which was annoying. Unfortunately I wont be keeping this game. It is a free standing game, which means you can play it from a flash drive. To uninstall just delete the installed folder and any shortcuts you may have created.

The music can be easily changed for anything you like. the files are MP3, so all you have to do is change the names of the music your adding to the names already found in the appropriate folders, which can be found via the following path if you allowed the game to install to it's default location:

C:\games\StreetRacer2\Data\Music

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternative racing games:

I think a large chunk of the community are going to be disappointed with todays racing game. It’s not very challenging. I won the first two races without even trying. So I’ve posted links to Gametop, which have at least 10 racing games for free, some of which, such as ATV Quadro Racing are half way decent. There’s also at least another 10 online racing games. Then there’s the Wheeled Games thread that lists loads more racing games and includes such classics as Trackmania, probably the best freeware racing game available to date. Finally, you’ll find several decent racing games via the free games synopsis, some of which are actually really good. There’s one online game I highly recommend called Darkwind. You can find details in the wheeled games thread.

Wheeled games thread:

Death Rally, Ignition, ReVolt, over 50 flash games, Darkwind, Trackmania Nations, Driving speed 2, BMW M3 Challenge,

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2574#post-17105

Free Games Synopsis:

Bunny speed, Chase HQ2 Evo, CLC Dream Test Drive, Driving speed, Gene Rally, GLTron, Grand Theft Auto I & II, Ludo Race, Nuclear Motocross, Project torque (online game), Ragtime Racing, Retro Racers, Stunt Playground, Sunday Drivers, SuperChix 76, Vortex, 3D Game With a Guy Flying a Pedal Plane

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4534

Gametop:

You’ll find the following games available for download at Gametop :!: A word of warning when installing any Gametop game. They are increasingly including toolbar and browser hijack practices, thankfully these can be avoided by un-checking the appropriate boxes during installation. All Gametop games do open up your internet browser when you close the game down, but this isn’t a browser hijack as your home page isn’t changed and once you click on the X, that’s it.

Real Racing, Mad Truckers, KBG Hunter, Monster Truck Challenge, Street Racer, ATV Quadro Racing, City Racing, Extreme Racers, Mad Racers, Star Racing, Crimson Road

http://www.gametop.com/category/racing.html

Then a few more from FreeGamePick:

http://www.freegamepick.com/en/racing.html

If you have some spare cash my advice for purchasing a racing game would be to get the latest game called Fuel. It has loads of different vehicles ranging from bikes and cars to trucks and ATV's. Not only that you get to drive around some of the most beautiful areas of the US. the developer has used satallite imagery to recreate areas such as the Grand Canyon. there's over a 100 000 miles of road to explore and 500 000 square miles of off road racing. If you're looking for something a little cheaper Need for Speed Carbon or Test Drive unlimited ae good choices. You can pick either one up for $10 or less. The latter game has over a 1000 miles of road which you can drive around on and joinn various types of races. It's a recreation of the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. I've still got a few older car orientated games to give away via the Wheeled games thread as well, which reminds me, someone contacted me recently about those and I said I still have London Racer. If they can PM me over in the forums to remind me who they are I'll be happy to post the game onto them. :)
