Stray Souls: Stolen Memories has never been given away before. :)

The last couple of days have been extremely busy; partly due to my daughters 21st on Friday as well as related activities yesterday. I didn't get to bed until after 4.30am this morning, so won't be around until very later morning or early afternoon and probably won't add any of my own thoughts to the information below, though I have edited the review significantly and included a link to another decent review from Gamezebo.

The Game:
First thing that we noticed about Stolen Memories is the game’s much improved graphics compared to the first in the series. In the previous game, the scenes were darker and sometimes blurry. In this sequel, however, all scenes are very clear with great use of different colours. Many scenes are breathtakingly beautiful with great details. All the characters are expertly drawn and unlike some games, the cutscenes quality is top notch and are not blurry at all!

Stolen Memories seems to be creepier than the first game, the story is more intriguing and the music sounds are spookier; however, it's been almost five years since we were given the first in the series i.e. Stray Souls: A Dollhouse Story HERE, so trying to compare them now means that we would have to go back and play it one more time although it is not really necessary but then, there is a connection between the story of this game and the last and it actually make much more sense if you know the story of the first game well. You can get the first one via TooMKY games HERE.

The story in Stolen Memories is pretty strong and it is being told through different media such as the knitted-doll companion which will constantly giving you advice on what to do next, sometimes it makes the game too easy; there are also super-clever pop-up pages where you can collect on the street and there are wooden dolls to collect. These wooden dolls will be added to your Dollhouse collection which plays a significant role in the game’s storytelling.

Stray Souls: Stolen Memories is not a difficult game to play as the gameplay is on the easy side. There are Hidden Object scenes which are not difficult, together with a mix of fun to play original and not so original puzzles to complete.

As it seems to be a requirement of today’s games, there is an interactive map which you can use to jump to other places of interest. It's well designed and even includes some animations!

We will not keep praising on how brilliant this game is because Stray Souls is not flawless. Even though the developers seem to did most of the things right, the length of the main game is also on the short side, it should be easily completed under 4 hours for aficionados of this genre.

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 3 hits (VBA32, Jiangmin, & BitDefenderTheta) from 59 antimalware engines. These 3 are amongst only several antimalware suites that often tag TooMKY Games with a positive result compared to most better known and more reliable antimalware engines; so, it's very likely to be a false positive.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that opens your browser to TooMKY Games home page after the game has installed and may place some shortcuts onto your desktop; these can be safely deleted once the game has installed.

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to TooMKY Games home page following the games installation, it earns TooMKY Games games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. The giveaway version of TooMKY games version has had most of the adware disabled.

The latest free games from Epic Games is Among the Sleep - Enhanced Edition - a first person horror adventure, in which you play a two year old child. The game explores horror through atmosphere and exploration, not with scores and combat systems. In Among the Sleep you’re vulnerable, scared, and trying to make sense of the world.
Next Thursday from 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting DARQ: Complete Edition - DARQ tells the story of Lloyd, a boy who becomes aware of the fact that he is dreaming. Indie Gala have added more games to their showcase section HERE, e.g. Colortone, Chop Chop Princess!, Renzo Racer (originally given away a couple of years ago, then removed from the freebies), plus Secrets of Magic: The Book of Spells has been re added. Once added to your Indie Gala library, they will always be available to download; even when they have been removed from the free list. There are presently 107 DRM free games available to download from the showcase section. Please remember, you do need to create a free account before you can download these games.

You can usually find links to Steam and non Steam freebies via Delenn's threads over in the forums HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). Thanks a million for keeping these threads updated frequently Delenn, it's really appreciated by me and I'm sure many other community members.

The latest Humble Choice bundle unlocked on Tuesday 5th October last week; If you have the original subscription before it changed from the Humble Monthly to the Humble Choice bundle you get 12 games plus a DRM free indie arcade game called The Groundz (Set in a Oakland, CA circa 1993, The Groundz is a street dodge ball game where players smash on each other at Parks and Rec's and Youth Development Centers all across the city. Smash on opponents in a 2 vs. 2 with friends) and access to all the games in the Humble Trove while your subscription is live. The Humble Trove includes around 75+ titles. The DRM free titles you can download and keep forever. The other games in the Trove can be downloaded and played while your subscription is live. If you suspend a month you lose access to those games for that month. They are adding games to the Trove virtually every month. Here's just a few examples of what's included in the Trove. Race the Sun: Challenge Edition, Zodiac II, Volantia: Kingdom in the Sky, Shady Knight, 20 minute Metropolis, Keyboard Sports, When Ski Lifts Go Wrong (this is £14.99 on Steam, you get the DRM free copy, so can still play it if you suspend your subscription). Also includes Valhalla Hills (another Steam game worth £7.99, but you get the DRM free version), Broken Sword 5, Runestone Keeper, Bomber Crew, (another DRM free copy that is £14.99 on Steam), Drawkanoid (£3.99 on Steam), Actually quite a few of the games in the Trove are also on Steam, but you always get the DRM free version.

There are different subscriptions available, details of which you can find HERE.

If you subscribe, it doesn't tie you in to buy every monthly choice bundle. If you find the latest bundle isn't for you, just go to your account page and suspend that month. This has to be done for each months bundle if you don't want them before your subscription is due for that month. Apart from the amazing bargains found with these choice bundles; there is always at least one or two premium AAA games, plus several other AAA and high level indie arcade games included in each bundle.

This months bundle includes Amnesia: Rebirth, John Wick Hex, 112 Operator, Guts and Glory, Ring of Pain, Garage: Bad Trip, The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia, Tools Up, Hiveswap FriendSim, Black Future '88 and Syberia 3. (Not as inspiring as some of the previous bundles, but most of the games are still excellent.

If you come across any free games either permanently free or temporarily free that you think are worth downloading, please do post details and links in Delenn's threads HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). Thank you in advance.

The following link HERE takes you to the Steam Database where you can find all the games that are on sale via Steam. You can create lists that select all the best deals and often include over 200 games with 90% off. i.e. click on the % and Price headings to get the best 90% deals; for example at the moment you can get the Daedalic - Gigantic Bundle that would normally cost £86.87 but with 90% off is only £7.99. You get 14 games including : Anna's Quest, Blackguards, Blackguards 2, Cultures - 8th Wonder of the World, Cultures - Northland, Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today, Decay: The Mare, Gomo, Journey of a Roach, Munin, Randal's Monday, SKYHILL, The Last Tinker™: City of Colors, Zanzarah: The Hidden Portal

Finally, you'll find a lot of games (over 980) in the Microsoft store for free HERE; e.g. Clash of Irons: Blitzkrieg, Tribes Warfare, Roblox, Crash of Magic, 8 Ball Billiards, Bike Stunt 2, Pac Man Cat, Brain Test: Tricky Puzzles, Lightning Speed Car Race, Cave Golf Master, Superbike Hero, Marine Empire: Warship Battles, Asphalt 9: Legends, Microsoft Mahjong and many more. :)

The Humble bundle is offering the complete TheHunter: Call of the Wild package for £11 (usually £102). This is a game I've become very attached to over the past few months accruing almost 500 hours of game play; with 10 reserves to explore and hunt in; from America (Rocky Mountains, Leyton Lakes and the Yukon), Europe (Hirschfelden & Cuatro Colinas), Africa (Vurhongha Savanna), Russia (Medved Taiga), New Zealand (Te Awaroa)) and South America (Parque Fernando & Rancho Del Arroyo). There is a free version called TheHunter: Classic, that includes all of the reserves; and is nearly as good as Call of the Wild, but the graphic is slightly dated (for example the weapon animations and weapon skins don't look as real, compared to Call of the Wild. You can find the deal HERE

Another source of heavily discounted games is a site called CDKey that you'll find
HERE, At the moment you can get Star Wars Squadrons via Origin for £0.59 (usually £34.99) or Ghostrunner for £0.39 that is usually £22.09 to add to your GOG account.

One of my favourite rally series (together with the Dirt series) are the WRC: World Rally Championship titles of which there are several available on Steam from WRC 4 to WRC 10. The sixth in the series, which was released in 2016 is on sale at the moment with a 90% discount, costing only £3.49 (absolute bargain).

If you like retro racing games, you can get the 1997 International Rally Championship for free HERE.

Also available for free from the same abandonware site are 64 pages of racing games, for example Network Q RAC Rally Championship DOS - 1996
Sega Rally Championship Windows - 1997
V-Rally: Edition 99 Windows - 1999
Sega Rally 2 Championship Windows - 1999
Mobil 1 Rally Championship Windows - 1999
Need for Speed: V-RALLY 2 Windows - 2000
Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit Windows - 1998
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 Windows - 2002

The Need for Speed: SE DOS - 1996
Need for Speed: Underground Windows - 2003
Need for Speed: Underground 2 Windows - 2004
Need for Speed II: SE Windows - 1997.

There are too many to mention here. I've included a decent selection of those released after 1995 above, but there are so many others that many of you may recognise for example; Micro Machines, V8 Challenge, The Simpsons: Hit & Run, Road Rash, Sega Rally Revo, Nascar Racing 2Toca Race Driver, Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, Grand Theft Auto, Death track, Leadfoot: Stadium Off-Road Racing & Rally Trophy, Off-Road Redneck. We have storms here in California in the Bay Area so I appreciate this game being given away as its the perfect game to play on a heavy rainy day. These HO games have been spectacular lately and a good addition to my gaming library.

I liked this game. Not too many hidden object scenes, and they always gave you tools you needed. The puzzles were moderately difficult. Wake up the dwarf was a head scratcher! The length of the game was just about perfect. It ended just after I was feeling guilty about sitting still so long. :-) Thanks for the game!

sia,

Sorry Sia, I've been extremely busy, so didn't see your comment until now. The download from TooMKY games is safe. You do get some browser redirections to TooMKY games site but these are so that they can pay the developer for allowing the game to be given away for free. There is no malware injected into your system. when installing or playing the game.

Howdy, Whiterabbit! And Happy Birthday to your daughter! Have a wonderful celebration.

Here are my thoughts based on too-short a period of game play. I got to the point of exploring the town. I'll continue when I have more time.

In Stray Souls: Stolen Memories, a mother and daughter are on a quest to find the father, who has disappeared into a different realm.

So far, this is a puzzle adventure game without traditional hidden object scenes. The difficulty has been just right -- logical solutions, no running all over creation to find what I need, and no pixel hunting.

There are two options for game play challenge, casual and expert, that affect how quickly the hints recharge and whether active areas are indicated. I'm playing on expert level. In games that have three levels, I usually play on the middle level.

The interactive areas are clearly defined, so I don't keep clicking on the same thing by mistake or missing my targets. And interaction with the functional areas -- inventory, navigation -- works well. There's a map that I haven't started to use yet. But yay, map!

From what little I've played, the story is well-paced. This may pick up where the previous title, Stray Souls: Dollhouse Story, left off. I can't tell from the descriptions. It's available at Toomky Games. (The completist in me doesn't like playing out of order, but I'm willing to take one for the team. :-P )

I don't understand how the daughter had been having these nightmarish visions without ever mentioning them to her mom, especially since they might help find her father. But then the mother did dismiss the daughter's fear that someone was nearby as "just the wind." (Sure it was ... !) Maybe the daughter knew from past experience that her mother would ignore her.

The creepy visual style makes me wonder why anyone would EVER stay at a hotel like that! If they didn't, maybe they wouldn't get themselves into these situations. But then we wouldn't have these fun games to play that are perfect for Halloween.

I recommend this game!

(System info: Win7 Pro 64-bit, 32GB RAM, i7-6700HQ, GTX 970M, 1920 x 1080 resolution)

A mother, a daughter, a missing dad, eventually a missing daughter, all in the ominous setting of an abandoned motel and strange town. Sure it's standard fair, nothing monumental but if you like the game genre and spooky themes, give this a go. Thus far, it's been more of finding specific things here and there to solve challenges along the way as opposed to here's a scene now find this list of 20 things in it. From the images I can see that will come eventually but I am appreciating this game doing it a bit differently.

Turn off the lights and revel in the atmosphere as you play. A great offering for Halloween week!

Thank you to all involved with this offering!
