Statue Puzzles:

In Brief:
Statue Puzzles is a jigsaw puzzle on the theme of statues of the world, that was released on Itch.io a few days ago that usually costs $5, but for giveaway community members is free until tomorrow the 18th September at 9am UK time/4am EST/1am Pacific) via the game give away of the day site. It will be replaced with one of our usual weekend games. I can say there are several games in the admin lists at the moment, of which at least three are games we've never seen here before.

You can see a video of game play HERE.

Introduction:
An addicting game in which you have to collect puzzles with statues from all over the world. Each puzzle consists of 24 parts, with a total of 15 levels in the game. Place all the elements correctly and the game will automatically advance to the next level. The Game:
Statue Puzzles is a 24 piece square puzzle with fifteen images to solve. Along the bottom of the puzzle are five buttons, the first allows you to see what the image is; to cancel it press the X in the top left of the screen. The second button turns music on (if it's off), the third button restarts the puzzle from the beginning; when this is done, all the pieces of the puzzle are shuffled and reoriented differently. The puzzle pieces are located to the left and right of the 4 x 6 grid; twelve on each side. When placing pieces in the correct position there is a slight movement putting it in place, but it is not locked like previous jigsaw puzzles we've received from a different developer. . Also, if you place a piece wrongly it does not jump back to the periphery like some of the BD Games puzzles we've had recently, you have to put them back manually. This puzzle looks more professional and is very similar to the puzzle we received yesterday about Autumn Moods by the same developer i.e. GameREA.
Statue-Puzzles-005

Statue-Puzzles-006
There is no level map. Whenever you start the game, it always starts with the first puzzle. When you have completed a puzzle, it automatically jumps to the next puzzle. When you have completed all 15 puzzles you are taken back to the main menu, where you can start again. Each restart of the puzzle you'll find all the puzzle pieces in a different location. All puzzle pieces unlike most jigsaws we've received recently, including yesterdays Autumn Moods are already correctly orientated, making these 15 puzzles much easier to complete. You can also see the different mouse and keyboard commands via the second button in the main menu. To close the game use the Esc key.

No progress is saved and completed puzzles will revert to unsolved once completed. When you reach and complete the last puzzle the game closes.

Conclusion:
Statue Puzzles is a pleasant jigsaw puzzle game, though easy to complete in less than 3 minutes per puzzle, so at the most you'd get 45 minutes out of this game. The puzzles are a variety of different statues located around the world, some modern to several hundred years. I enjoyed completing them, but there was no real challenge due to the limited size of each puzzle. This game is ideal for younger children or those with severe learning disabilities. Thank you Falcoware and GameREA for the opportunity to get this game for free. It would have been nice to have a location map of where each stature was located as well as it's name. I did recognise the last statue; having seen it while on vacation several years ago (either Croatia or Bulgaria, can't remember exactly which country as we went to both over a couple of years and my memory since my accident isn't what it was).

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game and it found two hits (VBA32 & Zilliya) from 59 antimalware engines. Zillya & VBA32 often tag Falcoware games, but 57 other antimalware engines found the installed game safe, so it's very likely to be a false positive.

The downloaded executable may include some low level adware that only opens your browser to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer over a year ago (that installer would show an advert for a game and then open your browser each time you played and then closed the game down.)

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

The latest free games from Epic Games are Speed Brawl, a 2D combat-racer about moving fast and hitting hard! Maintain your momentum, build combos, and unleash powerful moves. Find your own fighting style, and assemble the best team of brawlers ever seen. Then do it all again faster. Faster. FASTER! plus Tharsis, a turn-based space strategy game. With dice. And cannibalism. It puts you in control of humanity’s first mission to Mars, just as it’s struck by a micrometeorite storm.

Fron Thursday 23rd September 4pm UK/11am EST, the next freebie will unlock called The Escapists - a unique prison sandbox experience with lots of items to craft and combine in your daring quest for freedom. Life in prison will keep you on your toes with the strict rules that you’ll have to break. The guards are out to stop any escape attempts, so you’ll have to avoid suspicious behaviour by attending roll calls, working a prison job and hiding your stolen craftables.

Indie Gala have added more games to their showcase section HERE, e.g. Crazy Space Pirate, Marvin the Hatter, Pirate Codex, DreamTime, Project Restart, A Maze In Opportunity, Mirage Online Classic, In the World Unknown, Dissociation, The Little Witch Edwina, Hard Place and the seventh Leisure Suit Larry adventure. All but volume 7 have now been removed from the free section; however, if you grabbed them while they were still in the free section, you'll still find them in your Indie Gala library, where you can download DRM free copies of them anytime.

There appear to be an issue with the Indie gala site at the moment (at least for me); I keep getting a 404 when trying to access the free section and when clicking on any of the games in the showcase section it goes to 404. Hopefully they will sort it soon.

You can usually find links to Steam and non Steam freebies via Delenn's threads over in the forums HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). (thanks for keeping these threads updated frequently Delenn, it's really appreciated by me and I'm sure other community members.

The latest Humble Choice bundle went live on the first Tuesday of the month; If you have the original subscription before it changed from the Humble Monthly to the Humble Choice bundle you get 12 games plus a DRM free arcade game called Sluggish Morss Pattern Circus and access to all the games in the Humble Trove while your subscription is live. The Humble Trove includes around 75+ titles. The DRM free titles you can download and keep forever. The other games in the Trove can be downloaded and played while your subscription is live. If you suspend a month you lose access to those games for that month. They are adding games to the Trove virtually every month. Here's just a few examples of what's included in the Trove. Race the Sun: Challenge Edition, Zodiac II, Volantia: Kingdom in the Sky, Shady Knight, 20 minute Metropolis, Keyboard Sports, When Ski Lifts Go Wrong (this is £14.99 on Steam, you get the DRM free copy, so can still play it if you suspend your subscription). Also includes Valhalla Hills (another Steam game worth £7.99, but you get the DRM free version), Broken Sword 5, Runestone Keeper, Bomber Crew, (another DRM free copy that is £14.99 on Steam), Drawkanoid (£3.99 on Steam), Actually quite a few of the games in the Trove are also on Steam, but you always get the DRM free version.

There are different subscriptions available, details of which you can find HERE.

If you subscribe, it doesn't tie you in to buy every monthly choice bundle. If you find the latest bundle isn't for you, just go to your account page and suspend that month. This has to be done for each months bundle if you don't want them before your subscription is due for that month. Apart from the amazing bargains found with these choice bundles; there is always at least one or two premium AAA games, plus several other AAA and high level indie arcade games included in each bundle.

This months bundle would set you back £211.68 (approx' $290) if you purchased all of the games and includes PGA Tour 2K21 (£49.99), Neon Abyss (£15.99), Not For Broadcast (£19.49}, RÖKI (£19.49), Narita Boy (£19.99), West of Dead (£15.49), Atomicrops (£11.39), Heaven's Vault (£19.99), Swag and Sorcery (£9.99), Fort Triumph (£15.49), Orwell: Ignorance is Strength (£7.19) and Framed Collection (£7.19). For me, just the cost of Swag & Sorcery takes care of the cost of the whole bundle (it cost me £8.72 for the bundle) so I'm very pleased with this months choice, especially as several were on my wish list. The last one I already had, so gave it to a friend.

The extra game is a weird graphic oriented game on the lines of those Amanita Design games such as Samorost 1 (free on Steam) and Samorost 2, Machinarium and Rocket man, but is much more psychedelic and wacky. (If you get the bundle make sure you turn down the volume when playing Sluggish Morss Pattern Circus as it's rather jarring in places, but fits the game.

If you come across any games that are worth downloading, please do post details and links in Delenn's threads HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). Thank you in advance.

I still have trouble downloading the game, a lot of people do apparently. Have you asked anyone else besides you to try and download the game? It seems its only working for you, and trying on different browsers doesn't seem to improve this issue. Hope things get better for you though.

Whiterabbit-uk,
I think he meant access to the game on the GAotD site was not possible -- and that's currently true for me, also; nothing to do with local security, AFAIK: The link for downloading is just the same as the page's URL, followed by a "#".

alexyu, Thanks alexyu, I totally misread his comment (my excuse for the last three days I've had very little sleep having to baby sit our dwarf rabbit through the night for two nights and the night in between was unable to sleep due to my son nearly burning down our kitchen. A smoke filled kitchen 32feet by 12 feet is a scary sight. It left me with a really heavy chest and I was unable to sleep at all even with the cPAP I have to use. Again thanks for pointing my mistake out. It's been rectified. :)

Hi, Stephen!

First, 'business': I'm still seeing the 404; hope it gets corrected before the time runs out (but it's no biggie: Today's game seems similar to the previous one).

I didn't know you had started using a CPAP; I remember we talked about the possibility about 2 years ago (and, from this comment, it seems it 's been good for you).

Having a near-burnt-out kitchen while nanny-sitting a grieving dwarf rabbit is surely a very exhausting ordeal, so my sympathy -- and hope that part gets better soon.

Remember: There are lots of people here who care about you and your family.

alexyu,

That's odd, I'm still able to download the game. I've just downloaded again after accessing the main giveaway page. Something must be blocking your access. . The almost fire was the evening in between the days I was rabbit sitting. We take it in turns between myself my daughter, and at weekends my wife (she out at work all day during the seek so I took her spots as it would be unfair.

Thank you for your kind words. It's been two days since I breathed in a lungful of smoke and I can still taste it; thankfully the tightness has gone. I started using cPAP about 18 months ago and it has improved my sleep significantly.

Stay safe and have a great weekend.

Stephen:

As you can see from the comments, whatever it is, it's affecting many people in different parts of the world... And I can't see anything I can do about it from my end.

Yes, we talked about CPAP use in 2019, so it must have helped, for which I'm glad.

Stephen:

I just tried to download the non-game GAotD offer, and it was working fine, but the game still gives a 404, so it does seem to be something specific to this DL.

Trying to download gives a 404 error?

Reply   |   Comment by GOTDUser  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

GOTDUser,

Hi GOTDUser,

I checked to see if I could still download the game and was able to with no issues.

Your security may be blocking the download due to low level adware (that's part of the installer but isn't injected into your system or included in the game once installed, it just opens your browser to Falcoware's home page when the game has been installed, but it may be tagged as malware).

Please read the security section of my review for details. Also, try downloading the game again, then immediately open the event viewer. To open just type Event Viewer in the Windows search field that's located in the task bar, or find it via the Control panel. Once open, check the latest Log entries. Any issues or blocked content should be recorded as a log entry.

If you still can't figure out what the issue is please check the FAQ's thread over in the giveaway forums HERE.

Whiterabbit-uk,

404 means an error on the webserver NOT the client.. what a usefull answer from you...

even directly with http get from shell (no firewall etc..) i get this error!!!

Reply   |   Comment by wh17  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

wh17,

I misunderstood your comment above; I thought you were referring to the comment I made about not being able to access the free sections of Indie Gala, it never occured to me you were responding to the messages community members were getting. That said I wasn't getting the ''404'' message and was able to access the web server both before any comments were made and after.

I've deleted my initial response as I see that it was flawed. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
