Played through the game and now it will not let me play again. Kind of ridiculous. Even if I put a new player in, it just keeps saying "congrats, you've won the game. Watch for the 2nd version to come out soon". Very tacky way of trying to get someone to buy a second version by blocking you from playing it again, especially considering how very short the game was.

What you are saying doesn't sound right. I'd contact the developer.

This game seemed good, the graphics are nice. Unlike a previous commenter, I do not have a choice between verbal and silhouette clues, and I am unbearably tired of looking at outlines and trying to decide which gold urn with handles it seems to show! If I could use verbal clues, I might finish the game. This one just gives me a headache.

Just finished, no problems on Wndows 7 64-bit system the first time around but... Beautiful graphics, nice music in each location. Story line OK-not too many grammar mistakes or omissions. It is a consistent HOG. All play is the same. Each location has several screens. You have 6 objects to look for before you get the Magic Eye to find one of the special objects. This sequence usually repeats 6 times. After you go through all the areas in one location, you have a bonus click-your-heart-out round for extra gold points.

There is a hint compass that will point in the direction of an object if you can't find it. The object outlines are not always from the same angle you find them in the scenes so they are more of a challenge.

Repeat, repeat.

After the final screen with the Thank you for playing blah blah. it goes back to the main screen. Click to play again, it goes to the thank you scroll again. deleted profile, added new name. starts at the beginning but the thank you text is scrolling over the background. Click on a location as per instructions and I'm back at the main screen. I closed the game and when I reopened I could play again.

Nice for what it was--oh, and nothing but silhouettes, no description and no option for them. Too bad, the graphics are gorgeous. They won't find too many interested in chapters 2 and 3 unless they fix this and make it more interesting.

Thanks for a nice play game anyway. Very nice considering it's free:)

Thank you so much for this game! I love HOGs and since I'm new to playing them on the computer (any game on the computer) I have problems finding them without finding the games that you have to do searching through rooms, etc. with HOG in them. I guess this is what makes them "Adventure"?

The only problem I have is the same as kalookalei. I don't know how to get descriptions instead of just silhouettes.

Played through the game, Nitram (#34) was right - very short indeed, and basic - no adventure game elements.

Like Diane (#10) correctly said, there seems to be no Advanced Mode option.

The graphics and music were very crisp and enjoyable. I only wish that you could have saved some of the backgrounds - especially the undersea ones as screensavers. ^_^

HOGS are one of my favourite genres. My thanks to the developers and this site for this offering.

Playrix games are great (Royal Envoy is my favourite strategy/time management game of all time.) and this game is given a 4star rating by Gamezebo which is excellent for this site. I have just about had my fill of HOGs and they have to have some very clever innovations these days to be enticing. The advertising in a lot of freedownload game site games is quite intrusive and has put me off trying any more games from these sites with the exception of Sandlot's free weekly game where you get just the game.

.......................Moderator comment...................

Hi Ellieblue, there is no in game advertising in any of the games from MyPlayCity, FreeGamePick or Gametop games, tohugh each game will open up your browser when you close the game; however it is totally innocuous and will not harm your computer. Gametop have gone downhill a little with respect to pop ups being more aggressive, ut again, nothing is downloaded on your compute without permission being sought first.

downloaded this while still available.
BUT ! why did it not give me the option of using a desktop icon if I wanted to. Instead it put one there for the game and also a second one which says play more playrix games.
Why did it do that?
Why is there a second icon?
when something adds something when it is not wanted it is an automatic uninstall for me.

.............................Moderator comment.........................

Some games do install such shortcuts; however, they are innocuous. It would be a shame to delete the game just because of a shortcut thats not going to affect your security; but then, it's your choice. All my alawar games install a shortcut to their home page plus one for one of their sister sites. i always delete then with no after effects. They are still one of the better game houses IMO.

I have tried several times, including rebooting and re-downloading. The window pops up to validate with Gamegiveawayoftheday, then I get the error window message:
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

Then Ad-aware pops up a window that says:
REGISTRY CHANGE
The process setup.exe is trying to make changes to the security area....

Any clue what is wrong? Windows XP, up to date....

............................moderator comment....................

Not sure. you could try using a sandbox first to see if it causes any problems. No one has reported anything untowards with this game. Playtrix are a reputable game developer. I would err on the side of allowing the game to be installed. I've not used Adaware for over three years so can't remember how to okay the file. Maybe temporarily turn it off till the game has been installed. (Just a suggestion)

Question Time for Anyone.

I liked the game Mystery in London because you had a built in magnifier.
Does this game have it?
Can anyone recommend any game and/or games that has/have one?

Can anybody tell me of any magnifier that will work in these games that do not come with a magnifier built in when they go full screen. I have one but it just flickers in and out. It will not work when you look at the screen that shows when the game is up and running. I need a magnifier to see the hidden objects when the game is up and running with my poor eye sight. My old computer crashed and I do not remember what one it was that worked.

...........................moderator comment.........................

Sorry I can't help. The best way to find pout is to download some of the games and check, or look for reviews on the net.

I am thoroughly confused now. I did not re-download but I did re-install (and re-activate). It's SLOOOOOOOOW but at least it works. Because of my earlier MyPlayCity version, it knew my name and some of my options. It also started partway into the game (449 gold pieces and the second person).

However, unlike the MyPlayCity version, I was able to create a new profile and it actually seems to be starting over.

I checked the CPU usage and it's currently at 100% The very vast majority of that is this game. It may be slow but it's working.

I did email Playrix and I'll let that continue. There is still a problem with this slowness and what happened earlier.

........................................Moderator comment...............................

Hi Diane,
Have you tried using Game Booster? It may free up some extra memory which could allow the game to play faster. I don't know how much memory your system has, but if you are running several giveaways in the background as well as all of the vista background programs it could be the cause of the slowdown. With game booster you can add any program that you may have running together with pre selected windows programs that aren't necessary for the game. There's a simple return to normal button that you cn click on once you've finished playing to bring windows back to normal. you can download game booster via the following link:

http://iobit.com/gamebooster.html

I hope the above helps. :)

Thank you Whiterabbit for your wonderful reviews and info, and today for the link to the site with many free games! Though I was sad to see several games there from our old friends at Meridian 97! Also to see Farm Frenzy 1 and 2 there! WOW! Very glad to NOT see Magic Farm in their line up! :)

And thank you to Game GAOTD for your getting great games to us -- just wish it could be every weekend like it used to be... I hope to be getting a new desktop computer sometime in the next few months so will lose a LOT of games and free GAOTD software, so I will be looking then for repeats! :)

Response to Mod Comment - Because of other problems recently, I made sure my NVidia drivers were up to date.

I just ran an "analyze" operation using PerfectSpeed 2.0. The results are:

File Fragmentation: 1%
Directory Fragmentation: 1%
Free Space Fragmentation: 2%
Performance: 98%
Largest Free Space Chunk: 46.56 GB
Overall Fragmentation 1.4%

All tagged as Excellent. My C drive is 51% free.

I'm afraid that your suggestions just don't match my problem. However, I might try contacting Playrix and see what they say about it.

............................Moderator Comment.............................

That's a good idea.

Judging by the comments so far only a small percentage are having problems running this software which would imply something with your system setup could be causing the problem. I'm no tech expert so can't make any other suggestions at this time.

Is there a way to adjust screen size in the game? It doesn't fit on my 1024x600 netbook screen. The game seems to have installed fine, but I couldn't find a way to change the display resolution in it.

Thanks to Playtrix Entertainment and GOTD for the program.

.............................Moderator comment............................

As far as I know there's no way apart from toggling the windowed mode. I'd contact Playrix to ask them if there's a fix that could sort this problem. You could play it in windowed mode, though I realize that will make it harder to see some of the objects.

Hey Dudes!!!

What's the best Hidden Object Game among the ones kindly mentioned above by WhiteRabbit?

..............................Moderator Comment.......................

They are all much the same (IMO). I've played several of them and did enjoy Unicorn Castle and Magic Encyclopedia: first Story (actyally Beta tested both games for the developers, so had to play them the whole way through). The best way to find out which is best is to play them. I'm sure we would all have different favorite ones anyway. :)

Addendum to my previous remarks: I started playing the game and I really like it. Game play is smooth, the graphics are very good and the game has enough variety to keep it interesting. Disregard trashy-novel male-female-clutching image that they're using to illustrate the game; it makes the game look cheesy, which it isn't.

On the hope that this was a new (or at least changed) version that would work better, I downloaded and installed it on my Vista32 SP2 machine (NVidia graphics).

This was even worse than the original game! I could NOT get it to start. It would start to come up and then minimize. I would click to activate it and it would go a little farther and then minimize. After a certain point, it would just show the "map" and then minimize within a second or two. It is impossible to run!

I have uninstalled it with Advanced Revo-Uninstaller. I guess this one is just not for me!

I was able to complete the game as from MyPlayCity but couldn't go on. I can't even get started here. The two versions are DEFINITELY different and this is the inferior version from my point of view.

...................................Moderator comment...........................

Hi Diane, have you tried defragging your hard drive then installing the game? If your hard drive is badly fragmented it can lead to problems such as you describe; also out of date drivers may be causing the problem.

As this my first time back here in a while (prolly since middle 2008), I offer congrats to you, WR, as being made the moderator (a much deserved distinction, IMHO...). I got this game from one of the reputable free sites and found once I finished it, I could NOT go back and do anything. It wouldn't even let me create a new profile and do it again. I don't recall an "advanced" mode.

The free game sites tend to have older versions, though I've not checked to see whether the versions are different.
