Somewhat reminds me of Fantastic Contraption to an extent.

I really like this, however I'm stuck at level 5 - the triangle. Is there a 'hint video' somewhere online for when one is stuck? Wish I could skip 5 and continue with level Number 6.

Nevertheless, I really do like it, thus thumbs up.

Cheers!

Thanks for another game this weekend. Just started playing and it is getting challenging just after a few levels. A little more on how to play would've helped out in the beginning.
Downloaded/installed with no problems on my Win7/64bit Home.
Thannks again.

Nicely done, it's a really fun puzzle game. I even like the sound on it, fitting. I tried the level editor and it looks pretty easy to use too. Thanks!

I saw the complaints about users not commenting. so here is my two cents, I like brain teasers I finished the hole game. It was nice, but I think that better levels can be created (with the level editor) if you put your mind to it. Thanks a lot though I enjoyed it.

These Wheemplay games tend to be great for netbooks. Fun to play and not requiring tons of memory and fast processors.

Great little game and definitely challenging. The levels involving repeated clicking on the gravity 'button' can be a little frustrating as one slip up and you're back to starting again... I'm currently stuck on level 38 - trying to control 2 blocks when gravity is in play from the off is proving very tricky. An enjoyable ( even if occasionally frustrating) way to while away some time.

Thanks GGAOTD!

Oh boy what a treat.
Logic reasoning and problem solving skills get a workout on this game.
I am not a gamer usually, but I'm finding this a lot more interesting than my usual game of solitaire this morning.
Definitely a game for us "old codgers" who are not into high-speed racing games or beat-em-up violent stuff.
Rather therapeutic actually!!!
Thank you GGAOTD.

As with the other Wheemplay "gravity" games, this one is horribly addictive. I think the ambient background music adds a nice touch as well! Great fun and a simplistic download! Thanks GGOTD and Wheemplay.

A fine game. A little slow, and it takes a bit to figure out the challenges, but good sound and music and decent game play. Thanks, Game Giveaway!

I cannot comment on this game because I can't find it. Would someone be so kind as to send me in the right direction please. Also, how do I put a shortcut on my desktop? I've downloaded the game and my OS is Vista 64 bit.

.........................Moderator comment..........................

I've mentioned where the game is installed to at the beginning of my review @ comment #1. There is a short tutorial in the game discussion forums that tells you how to put shortcuts onto your desktop and start Menu programs list, but just for a desktop shortcut right click on the game exe which is located C:\Games\ select 'Send to' from the menu then from the drop down menu select 'Desktop (Create Shortcut)'

Happy to hear so, really.

Wow, what incredible memory you have, Whabbit!

Of course, I was interested in that perticlar sortie because of the film.

So, no change on the Dam Buster Game front!
The slideshow images are very impressive, but I guess a bit too heavy for my Toshiba laptop, that game.. (everything is, really.)
I've watched Britain from Above on tv, recently, these images look very familiar, indeed!

Game today, ran through the first few levels purely by accident, am not able te get the same result!

No need to edit :) all the images were captured while I was playing the game. Not played it in quite some time so remembering has got me interested again. :) I purchased the expansion shortly after and have still not played it yet.

Downloaded with no problems on Vista. Good game. Having a little change where the game is based on logic and puzzling out vectors rather than just reaction times is nice.

After watching part of the slide show mentioned in Whiterabbit's review, I decided not to download the game because the graphics seemed dull somewhat depressing. But, after reading the other reviews I decided to download it and give it a try. Glad I did. It is an enjoyable game. I like this one.

what I need to restart is creating a video of game play. It 's been too much effort to bother over the past year, but I may restart making them if the game giveaway continues to bring decent games as it has for some time now.

Cute. Played a few of these but this one is worthly brain teaser. Got stuck on level 12 I think it was. One where there's several L shaped green shapes at end of a bar. Have to get spinner to lower left corner. Trick is the darn green L things can be removed. Thus passage gained for spinner as you pop soviet star shapes out of the way.
G key for gravity comes in necessary on some levels. Hold it & bank the stars out of the way. Looks like will get funky further on. Fun start. Has options for sound, music levels. Tried More Games option and leads to some other physics games like a ragdoll one. When I came back to this I suddenly decided to bang on green Ls. The ingame tips didn't mention those being 'playable'. So tips only help to that point - don't fall into trap of thinking they'll clue you to everything. Easy trap when on a roll.
As to Editor I couldn't right away find a way to load/save of a game level. Think just for external created levels even if your own. Just 1 executable remains after install/activation. Make shortcut using the Send to Decktop method. For some reason that works on games so much better than the 'conventional' Create shortcut. Don't know why but that's my experience and always use that. Tiny 7.3kb for use anywhere. Thanks! Win 7 32x.

Thanks, things are looking up (I think). Did you ever follow up on the dam busters query you made? I made a suggestion about a game called Wings of Prey, which has since been reduced significantly. In fact it's on a deal at the moment via Steam with 50% off . Here are the images I linked to when you asked back in January last year:

Since it has a level editor but only a few levels in the game, it would be helpful if the app.wheemplay.com/sovietcypher website adds a moderated section for user created content. It would probably extend the life of the game.

......................Moderator comment..............................

That's always a very good idea when levels editors are included. Reflexive did it with the breakout series Ricochet and now (even though Reflexive are no longer) you can still access the site where there are thousands of custom made levels available. I doubt the developer will bother with such an idea despite it being a very good one. Alternatively we could set up a thread in the giveaway forums where community members could post links to custom made content. There are lots of places where you can upload files for free, for example Filefront (who've recently changed their name to gamefront) (http://www.gamefront.com). It just takes a little effort from the community to make it work. (though when you look at the stat's for example an average of only 0.5% of community members who download these free games bother to even leave a short comment, so I doubt that idea would work here too - please prove to me I'm wrong community)

Cool game! Thanks for the brain food :)
I wish there were a few zillion levels though, I think I'm half way through already..
Anyway, good fun while it lasts, and considering the increasing difficulty with each level I may be underestimating the amount of time I can look forward to wasting ;)

.....................Moderator Comment.................

Hi wobbly wombat (love the name), you could have a few zillion levels (okay, a bit of an exaggeration, lol) if you get all your friends to download this game and create their own levels. There’s a levels editor which will enable you to create as many as you want. :)

Doesn't really grab your attention, does it? I don't think I'll be giving this one a try. It's just as well; I've put aside PC/console gaming for Lent.

I recall seeing a lot of people griping about a recent giveaway being Flash-based, so brace yourself.

Soviet Cypher downloads to a 7.62Mb zip file that unpacks to a read me (that states the terms and conditions) and a wrapped dual activation and set up file. The game installs to the following path:

C:\Games\Soviet Cypher

There is no folder just the games executable. You will have to create your own shortcuts. The installed game is 7.11Mb in size. You will require a flash program for this game to work.

The game works in Win 7 Ultimate and Pro as well as Win XP Pro. I will test it in Vista later.

Introduction:

This is a cool logic game with a theme based on the Soviet period. By making simple manipulations, such as moving removal and rotation of physical objects and blocks you have to deliver a star to a specific location.

Edited Reference accessed HERE on the 12th March 2011

The Game:

Another excellent flash based game from Wheemplay, with 40 pre-made levels and a levels editor to make your own when you’ve completed the once included with the main game. The game starts off in tutorial mode introducing some of the objects that you have to manoeuvre. The concept is easy, move a red colored object from one place to another using the mouse to push various movable objects such as boxes, swinging objects and propellers with the added ‘complication of changing gravity on some of the levels. There are short tutorial messages that introduce new concepts and some initial reminders such as Gravity [G] prompts when you need to use gravity. The puzzles get progressively more ingenious as you progress with fewer or no prompts. Don’t let the first few very simple puzzles put you off this game; they are just tutorial levels that introduce you to the various movements that can be accomplished.

All the puzzles apart from the first are locked initially. Once you’ve unlocked a puzzle you can return to it whenever you wish. Each level had a countdown timer that initially starts at 1000. As you progress through the levels an additional 100 is added to the timer for each new level, which counts down at an alarming rate. 1000 equals about 33 seconds and each additional level adds about 3 seconds to the time you get to complete the level. The longer you take to complete the level the lower the points you get for completing it. Going over the allotted time gives you 0 points but you can still continue if you wish or restart the level by clicking on R.

There is a sprint mode that is unlocked once all levels have been completed and you earn achievements for attaining specific goals. You can see all achievements earned via the main menu.

The options menu allows you to change the music and sound effects as well as the graphics quality, however I saw very little difference between the lowest and highest settings. If you are having difficulty running the game I would suggest turning the graphics quality to it's lowet setting, however I doubt that this will be needed unless you are running an ancient computer.

Check out the images I’ve uploaded. They give you an idea of what to expect from the game; showing you some of the objects and the levels editor.

Images

You can see a slide show of all the images (around 50) HERE.

Conclusion

This is an excellent physics based puzzle with a levels editor that enables you to create your own levels when you've completed the 40 that are provided. It's an excellent puzzle game though I do think the number of official levels is a little sparce as not everyone will want to use the levels editor, which is simple to use. there are no bells and whisles graphically, but the execution is excellent and well worth 8 points IMO. 8 for game play, 6 for graphics, 10 for the addition of a levels editor and 8 for replayability (due to the addition of the levels editor). Check out Beergas's concise and erudite review below for more information.

If todays game leaves you wanting more puzzle games to play go check out Caiman games. there are ovr 300 puzzle games available for free, with none of the problems you get from sites like MyPlayCity and Gametop. you can find all of the games HERE
